Have you ever said, “I'm so stressed out that I can't think clearly—it’s like my head's in a fog?” Turns out, that’s a real thing. In times of anxiety and feeling overwhelmed, we can't think clearly because the prefrontal cortex of our brain--which manages complex processing like reasoning, logic, problem-solving, and even memory--shuts down. Yvonne Tally, author of Breaking Up With Busy, shares her firsthand insight as to how “busy” may just be what’s at the heart of so many of your everyday troubles. Yvonne leads meditation and de-stressing programs for corporations, individuals, and private groups in Silicon Valley. She's an NLP master practitioner and co-founded the company Poised Inc. which is a Pilates and wellness training studio. Yvonne's also the Founder of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarves, a charity that provides headscarves to cancer patients. Find out how to break up with busy and discover a brand new liberating pace to living! Key takeaways: The status symbol. Right from the start, Yvonne breaks down the meaning behind the “busy” mentality. It seems that if you’re not busy you’re lazy. It’s a belief that’s part of our culture, but why? The HIDDEN truth behind this cultural phenomenon . . . [02:25]. The need-want connection. Being busy isn’t about the fear of boredom as it’s more about living at a specific pace. Once you develop this certain speed to living, your body and mind become conditioned and it’s hard to break free . . . but there’s a way! Start by asking yourself this ONE question . . . [09:02]. The alternative pace. We all have to rush from time to time, but do you really need to rush through each conversation and every moment? It’s time to pump the breaks, because sooner than later the constant go-go-go mindset will catch up to you. The THREE things you can do to slow down today . . . [18:53]. The practical solution. There are two things we all share: we want to be appreciated and we want to be happy. As we develop different habits to accomplish these two things, it can feel overwhelming. Some suggest taking a deep breath, but there’s another, more powerful approach. Give THIS one a try . . . [32:04]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.
Are You ready to break up with being busy and start living vibrantly? Power Your Life Radio host Dr. Jo Anne White talks with Guest Yvonne Tally about how You can stop being on the run and start being in the moment. Yvonne Tally is an NLP master practitioner who leads meditation and de-stressing programs for corporations, individuals, and private groups in Silicon Valley. She's also the cofounder of Poised Inc., a Pilates and Wellness training studio and the founder of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarves, an annual fundraiser that provides headscarves to cancer patients. Yvonne's book, "Breaking Up With Busy: Real-Life Solutions for Overscheduled Women" offers women practical, effective solutions to the frustrations caused by a time-strapped lifestyle. Yvonne details a powerful Five-Step Super Solutions Process as a go-to tool for dropping busy habits. She also offers a host of mindfulness-based, busy-busting solutions throughout the book.
On this episode of She Rises, host Giovanna Capozza interviews Yvonne Tally, author of Breaking Up With Busy, she leads meditation and destressing programs for corporations, individuals, and private groups in Silicon Valley. She’s an NLP Master Practitioner, co-founder of Poised Inc. and the founder of the Sisterhood of the Travelling Scarves. Yvonne shares her story of breaking up with busy. After a panic attack due to her busy lifestyle, she realized she needed to help people. We’ve turned the leisure life into the busy life, it makes us feel important and connected. Yvonne talks about how she went from an anxiety attack to mindfulness. How can women identify themselves as overscheduled, and not “lazy.” Business has a big impact on every aspect of our personal wellness and relationships. Yvonne explains the difference between being busy and being productive. Taming time is about choosing to make priorities and thinking of time as a resource. Yvonne explains the role of silence in combatting the busy life. Everything in this world comes from human imagination, even nature. Shift your energy and thoughts toward what you want to create instead of what you fear. The three things you can do to become aware of the pace you’re in each day. Tweetable Quotes: We wear being busy as a badge of honor. In our culture with social media, we fake happiness. The brain can’t multi-task, so the things we’ve been doing are in conflict with one another. If everything is important, then nothing is important. If we’re too busy we can’t even set our priorities. Aired Wednesday, 8 August 2018, 8:00 PM ETYvonne Tally – Breaking Up with BusyThe Greek Philosopher Socrates wrote, “Beware the barrenness of a busy life.” Considering this was written in the rather less than hectic period around 425 BC, the busy life of today must be totally barren! The word barren, usually applied to land, means unproductive, unfruitful and a place of stunted growth. Is this a true description of your busy life, especially if you are a woman? Are you one of the estimated 55 million women in today’s world who juggle your career, family and relationship, leaving you feeling like that barren land?My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, Yvonne Tally, knows that feeling well. As a successful career woman, it was Yvonne’s own struggles with life balance that landed her in the ER and ultimately fueled her curiosity to develop methods and techniques to live a more sane and balanced life.Yvonne Tally has been a healthy lifestyle coach for nearly twenty years. She is a co-founder of Poised Inc., which, among many other things, offers Pilates training to cancer survivors through the Stanford University Cancer Center, and the founder of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarves, a charity that provides headscarves to cancer patients. She is the Meditation and De-Stressing Specialist for the city of Palo Alto, California. Her website is YvonneTally.com and she joins me this week to discuss her new book, Breaking Up with Busy — Real-Life Solutions for Overscheduled Women.

Women said they could do it all, so they got it all. All being family, career, and self-fulfillment. Only the price many women pay to run this race includes health challenges, career delays, more financial responsibility, and more societal expectations that they should be able to do it all without missing a meeting, losing their cool, or looking frazzled. As a successful career woman, it was Yvonne’s own struggles with life balance that landed her in the ER and ultimately fueled her curiosity to develop the methods and techniques she offers in Breaking Up with Busy. Throughout the book, she stresses the benefits of living a more sane and balanced life — encompassing everything from longevity, looks, and libido to self-actualization and spiritual connection. To get there, she details methodical, incremental ways to change habits, transform thinking, and reconnect with one’s own unique, personal sense of play and pleasure. Hello from the frost-bitten Cheshire Plain here in the North-West of England! In this episode I talk about snow, labyrinthitis and get cross with the cat. On the Needles: I talk about the Sparkly Monkeys, which now have a pair of legs, consider the negative progress made with the Sock Yarn Blanket, ponder the fun that can be had with Scarf Journeys (details here and here) and Traveling Scarves (mine is here, although full photos are not yet up as it's not quite fully finished - oops!), and admire the strength and love involved in making squares for the Schuyler Blanket Project (Ravelry group and webpage). Review: Regia X-mas, a 4 ply wool, nylon and metallic thread blend sold in 100g balls and six festive colours. Something I really like: My new Nespresso coffee machine!
