Back again for a second straight episode, Hoges spot-starts with Dan to discuss one of the more exciting series of the year for the Minnesota Twins, who swept the Arizona Diamonbacks at Target Field for the third straight time. Hoges has nothing but praise for Game 3 hero Matt Wallner after watching the game in person, while Dan gives credit to Max Kepler for the stretch he had not just this weekend but the last month. They devote a special segment to the (Twins) Hall of Fame induction of Minnesotan Joe Mauer and make the case for his enshrinement in Cooperstown. They also dive into Rocco Baldelli's use of the designated hitter and whether, just maybe, Carlos Correa isn't healthy. Finally, they discuss the boxing match between Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson, and then they make their picks for the next series at Detroit. This series did not go as David and Dan assumed and certainly not as hoped for the Twins, who lose three of four to the Texas Rangers, a team that is 10 games under .500 and far from the playoff picture. The Twins find themselves two games behind the Cleveland Guardians. Minnesota scores just six runs in the four-game series, wasting four very good outings from its starting pitchers by coupling that effort with a 2-for-26 stretch with runners in scoring position. David has plenty of criticism to go around. Dan is still fixated on the long-relief role for some reason. They find the two bright spots in the series for their Minnesota Moments, and then they discuss a hypothetical Albert Pujols at bat that David somehow relates to Brett Favre. Finally, they discuss the merits of being a member of the Twins Hall of Fame, into which the organization inducted three more members during an otherwise forgettable series. Star Tribune columnist Patrick Reusse joins host Michael Rand for a look at the impotent Twins' offense. Minnesota was shut out 7-0 by the Rangers on Sunday, and a look at the lineup reveals a lot of players who just shouldn't scare opposing pitchers that much. With a tough slate of games coming up, the Twins will need to revitalize their hitting to stay in the AL Central race. Plus Reusse gives his pitch for why Cesar Tovar was such a deserving inductee into the Twins Hall of Fame and who else needs to get in soon. And both Rand and Reusse offer solutions to the Vikings' backup QB problem.
