Jim is joined by Brandon Warne, host of Locked on Twins, to break down the HOF candidacy of former MLB pitcher Johan Santana. First, Brandon and Jim cover the best pitchers in Minnesota Twins history (11:03). Next, they discuss Johan's ridiculous second half of 2004 (13-0, 1.21 ERA), his no-hitter with the New York Mets in 2012, and how his peak actually compares to Sandy Koufax (15:25). Finally, Brandon and Jim debate how big of a deal Johan's low career win total (139) actually is (40:45), before making a final call on whether Johan belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame (49:05).
This week Andrew talks with former MLB manager Terry Collins. Over the course of his career, Terry managed the Houston Astros, Anaheim Angels, & eventually Andrew's beloved New York Mets. Andrew is a lifelong Mets fan — and Terry is Andrew's favorite Mets manager of all-time. During Terry's tenure as Mets manager, he led with passion, showed an unbreakable loyalty to his players, & presided over some of the most memorable moments in team history. In addition, every night at his post-game press conference — win or lose — Terry was honest, authentic, & showed everyone how much he cared. In this conversation, Andrew asks Terry all about his career & many of his most iconic moments as a leader. This episode is filled with timeless wisdom on leadership, teamwork, & success that applies far beyond baseball. ** Follow Andrew **Instagram: @AndrewMoses123Twitter/X: @andrewhmosesSign up for e-mails to keep up with the podcast at everybodypullsthetarp.com/newsletterDISCLAIMER: This podcast is solely for educational & entertainment purposes. Bugs Raymond battled alcoholism while pitching for the Tigers, Cardinals and Giants as well as several minor league teams during the early Deadball Era -- this week we discuss Raymond's difficult and tragic life in baseball and afterwards. In Chapter 2, Craig and Rex have six players they believe ought to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame but are not. They'll tell you who those players are. Author, Brett Topel Talks About New York Mets Firsts and Dansons, Julie Day Discusses Pit Boss Heroes while Chef Ray Sheehan Guest Co-hosts Brett Topel is a prolific author whose passion for his subjects comes through in all of his projects. He returns to the show to discuss his latest book, New York Mets Firsts: The Players, Moments, and Records That Were First in Team History. In the more than sixty-year history of the New York Mets, there are many firsts, some more well known than others. For example, the first Met pitcher to record a win at Shea Stadium (Al Jackson), the first Met to hit a homer at Citi Field (David Wright), the first Cy Young Award winner for the Mets (Tom Seaver), the first Met to pitch a no-hitter (Johan Santana). However, Brett provides many Mets firsts that even the most ardent fan may not know, but will definitely love finding out Julie Day is the head of corporate responsibility for Dansons which is the the parent company of Pit Boss and Louisiana Grills. She joins us to discuss the Pit Boss Heroes program. The program is a continuation to help others as they try to give back to the people and communities who need and/or deserve it. This program offers a 25% discount on all Pit Boss equipment and accessories to first responders and service men and women, past and present. Per their website, "It is our way to say thank you for your sacrifice that allows all of us to live freely." In addition to the discount they also recognize a Pit Boss Hero of the Month. Chef Ray Sheehan joins us. For more information on Dansons, Pit Boss, and the Pit Boss Heroes program go to https://pitboss-grills.com/heroes We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. In this episode of Sports the NEMO Way we bring the best of the Twins to the table for discussion.
Jim Duquette was a longtime baseball executive. He served as General Manager of both the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles. He began working as a broadcaster first for MLB.COM, then Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. In 2009-2010, he hosted “Power Alley” with Seth Everett. Recently, he has also been a baseball analyst for Sportsnet New York (SNY). In this episode, Duquette reflects on the transition from the front office to the broadcast booth. He also discussed the various shows that he hosted with Seth. He then gives his take on the current way baseball is played, and how analytics have changed the overall product. In 2012, Duquette was in the Mets radio booth for Johan Santana's no-hitter, the first no-hitter in New York Mets history. Finally he gives a medical update on his daughter, who is thriving after Jim donated his kidney to her, also in 2012.
Craig Carton reported that the thing going on with the Eagles locker room would fracture any relationship. Adam Schefter was on the radio in Philadelphia and pretty much said this is tabloid journalism. Kevin Clancy just remembered he forgot to tell his Mom he was hosting with Gio today. He also didn't tell her to turn the Mets game on when Johan Santana was throwing a no hitter. They also talked about what it's like when you first have children and how it changes your life. There should be some sort of test to be able to have children. A caller said he was playing craps in a casino in Florida and Eli Manning was right next to him at the next table. We also talked about Dana White betting an insane amount of money at the tables. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with Knicks injuries as we come out of the All Star break. Charles Barkley said of Kevin Durant, ‘Kevin's a follower, he's not a leader'. KD responded saying these guys on tv need to fill segments with negativity. Rick Pitino finally apologized for his comments over the weekend where he went after his players. We talked about Eddie going to sleep at 5pm during the week. Nick Saban is out of coaching but he doesn't want to stay home and just watch Netflix. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Dave Portnoy and his newly adopted dog, ‘Miss Peaches'. We cringed at his ‘Miss Peaches' voices that he uses to talk to her.
Hour 1 Kevin Clancy, KFC from Barstool Sports, is in for Boomer today. He's a huge Mets fan so Gio starts with the Mets offseason or lack thereof. We talked about Pete Alonso's future with the Mets. We also talked about Frank The Tank's Mets negativity. Mets fans were negative for so long in the Wilpon era and we all thought things would turn around in the Steve Cohen era. C-Lo is in for Jerry today and is here for his first update, but first we talked about how bad the new Fanatics/Nike uniforms are. The pants are see through, so you can see the tucked in jersey in the pants. C-Lo starts with Kodai Senga already experiencing arm fatigue in February. Evan Roberts was angry with the Mets and cannot say the word, ‘compartmentalize'. Rick Pitino finally apologized for calling out his players over the weekend. Hour 2 Rob Saleh seems to have no control over his players on social media. Sauce Gardner is now calling himself, ‘LaSauce', and is playing GM. He is posting who he would be signing to the Jets if he were the GM. Kevin Clancy tells us he's not a big uniform guy and doesn't remember player numbers even the ones he's watched forever. We also talked about Gio's love of 1,000 lb Sisters. They also both love Love Is Blind. C-Lo returns for an update but first we talked about needing a colostomy bag. Gio thinks Kevin Ollie looks like an evil magician because of the mustache and thin face. Rick Pitino finally apologized for attacking his players and saying they can't move. Justin Fields explained why he unfollowed the Bears on Instagram. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Shane Gillis hosting SNL even though they fired him before he started working there. Hour 3 Craig Carton reported that the thing going on with the Eagles locker room would fracture any relationship. We cringed at his ‘Miss Peaches' voices that he uses to talk to her. Hour 4 Scottie Pippen, Luc Longley, and Horace Grant are going on tour to dispute some of the things presented in The Last Dance documentary. They are calling it ‘The No Bull' Tour. We talked about friction when you're on a team like the Bulls experienced. It happened at Barstool and it has happened at WFAN over the years. Gio wonders who best stood up to Dave Portnoy over the years. Gio wonders if Portnoy likes to be challenged. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and starts with the arm fatigue of Kodai Senga. And yes, arm fatigue in February. The Moment of The Day includes an older caller who wanted to be quizzed on Brooklyn Dodgers uniform numbers. In the final segment of the show, we get breaking news that David Stearns is going to address the media to talk about the Kodai Senga arm fatigue. That sounds like it's terrible news.

Today, the pod delve into one of the most baffling sports records ever witnessed: the Minnesota Twins' staggering 18-game postseason losing streak spanning 19 years across eight postseason appearances. Remarkably, this streak stands unmatched in the annals of American professional sports history. For context, the Detroit Pistons hold the NBA's longest losing streak with 14 straight postseason defeats, putting the Twins' plight into stark perspective. What's even more perplexing? The Twins haven't fielded mediocre teams during this period. They've showcased MVPs, Cy Young winners, Batting champions, and Hall of Famers, from Johan Santana and Joe Mauer to Jim Thome and Torii Hunter. As we approach the 2023 postseason, we dive deep into the factors and emotions behind this unprecedented streak, with a hopeful heart that this might just be the year the Twins reverse their fortunes. By the end, you might just find yourself donning the Twins' colors and rooting for their redemption. Join us on this emotional roller-coaster ride!

JOE SHEEHAN, THE JOE SHEEHAN NEWSLETTER discusses the price tag that Shohei Ohtani will command and that's he's basically the only player actually worth the contract he'll get. He says that while Felix Hernandez will have supporters for a Hall of Fame induction in a few years, the fact that Johan Santana is on the outside looking in might be a roadblock for him. What are the chances the Mariners go on a run here? Once a team falls behind, it's extremely difficult to come back. We take a listen back to John Canzano on Puck and Jim today, which included the potential of WSU and OSU going to AAC. Ian wants nothing to do with the AAC, there's simply no appeal from a competitive standpoint, let alone the travel. As much as Ian held out hope that the Pac would rebuild, the ship has sailed.

Rich reacts to Clayton Kershaw being taken out of the game after 7 perfect innings and says why Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts should have left the future Hall of Famer in the game to try to make history. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, a die-hard Mets fan, tells Rich why Johan Santana's cautionary tell is why the Dodgers were smart to remove Clayton Kershaw from his perfect game bid, why Malik Willis is likely to be the first QB taken in the NFL Draft over Pitt's Kenny Pickett, why Browns QB Baker Mayfield is more likely to be on the move before rather than after the NFL Draft, how good Derek Carr and the Raiders can be next season, why Tyrann Mathieu still remains unsigned, and if he believes Tom Brady played a role in Bruce Arians decision to retire. Rich and the guys discuss the “what ifs” if those Tom Brady to the Miami Dolphins rumors had come to fruition, how Baker Mayfield's dog was the true star of the QB's appearance in the podcast where he ripped the Browns, and discuss he young is too young to let your daughter listen to Katy Perry's song “Last Friday Night.” Learn more about your ad choices.
