Welcome to today's episode, where we're diving into something we all experience but often try to hide: our mistakes. Those moments when we stumble, fall short, or completely miss the mark. But what if I told you that these mistakes might be your life's most powerful wisdom-bringers? Those uncomfortable, sometimes painful missteps could actually be disguised gifts. As Tryon Edwards so perfectly put it: "Some of the best lessons we ever learn we learn from our mistakes and failures. The error of the past is the wisdom of the future."Think about it. When everything goes according to plan, what do we really learn? It's in the gaps, the unexpected detours, where actual growth happens. That project that failed spectacularly? It probably taught you more than a dozen successful ones. We're culturally programmed to avoid mistakes at all costs. We're taught that success means getting it right the first time. But this mindset robs us of the rich learning from getting it wrong. Some of humanity's greatest innovations came from mistakes—penicillin, microwave ovens, and even chocolate chip cookies! The creators didn't just make errors; they paid attention to them. And here's something we don't talk about enough: mistakes connect us. They remind us of our shared humanity. When we're vulnerable enough to admit when we've messed up, we create space for authentic connection with others. For many of us, our most transformative life chapters began with what looked like failure. The relationship that ended painfully led to deeper self-knowledge. The career setback forced us to reevaluate our true calling. So in today's episode, we'll hear from people who've turned their biggest mistakes into unexpected gifts. We'll explore practical ways to extract wisdom from failure rather than just trying to move past it quickly. And we'll talk about how embracing imperfection might actually be the key to living with more courage and authenticity. Whether you're recovering from a recent mistake or trying to build a healthier relationship with failure, this conversation is for you.

Tyrone L. Edwards Sr's Journey Tyrone is a convicted felon who has completely turned his life around. While incarcerated, Tyrone wrote a total of sixty books, six of which have been published. Tyrone had a vision of turning one of his books, War Behind Bars into a stage play. He made that happen with just his own financial backing. The cast is all local adults and youth. The majority of the cast has been incarcerated or have had run-ins with the law. Some of them have never acted before, danced or sung in front of an audience. War Behind Bars first premiered at the historic Madame CJ Walker Theater in January of 2022, second showing was at the Warren Performing Arts Center in April of 2022 and the finale was performed at Pike Performing Arts Center in April 2023. Some of these experiences have not been very pleasant, to say the least. Experiences like this are what led Tyrone to start his own publishing company, Te's Publishing House, and his not-for-profit Te's House of Thoughts. Te's House of Thoughts offers free assistance to individuals on how to put their creative thoughts into book form and publish their own book, how to use their creative talents in acting, singing, and dance, and even how to turn their creative hobby into a business. Today we have a running specialist and Optimize Potential Training owner, Tyrone Edwards. He started this business to be able to give back to young athletes and help them to understand the processes of making it to the next level, whatever that was, and to help them run as fast as they can. He started focusing later on adults, and now he wants to teach all people what it's like to run again and pain free. So many people lose that ability to run for a long time, and without pain, so Tyrone's focus is to help them achieve that again. Revenge of the Black Best Friend is a brand new CBC Gem original comedy series from award-winning playwright, host, producer, and CBC personality Amanda Parris, puts a spotlight – and surreal twist – on the familiar tropes, stereotypes and typecasting that's been forced on Black actors. The entire six-part series debuted on the free CBC Gem streaming service on Thursday, March 31, 2022. It also had its international premiere as an official selection in the Short Form competition at the prestigious Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries) April 1-6, 2022. From dismissed divas to sidelined superheroes, the series follows Dr. Toni Shakur (played by The Porter's Oluniké Adeliyi), a self-help guru whose mission is to cancel the entertainment industry's reliance on token Black characters…that is before she gets cancelled herself. This highly irreverent series is partially inspired by Robert Townsend's iconic ‘80s spoof Hollywood Shuffle, and is in the spirit of contemporary offerings like Atlanta, Random Acts of Flyness and Sorry to Bother You. Revenge of the Black Best Friend is directed by Thyrone Tommy, Ian Keteku and Jerome Kruin. Motion (Co-Executive Producer, Writer) and Julian De Zotti (Executive Producer) are also part of the production team. It stars Oluniké Adeliyi, Cara Ricketts, Araya Mengesha, Dwain Murphy, Ashton James, Julian De Zotti and Jenny Young with special appearances from Andrea Lewis, Tyrone Edwards and Mark Strong. Recently, we spoke with Olunike Adeliyi (Dr. Toni Shakur), Ashton James, Ian Keteku and Jerome Kruin from the show. Chloe Wilde and Tyrone Edwards go way back, almost 7 years ago to the day when they started working together at the iconic MuchMusic office in downtown Toronto and were deskmates. Since that day, they’ve never stopped being deskmates and have since travelled the world together, filmed incredible shows together, gone through life’s hardships while being there for one another and now are supporting each other on a personal development journey. Tyrone is not only one of the most recognizable television personalities in Canada, he is also an incredible human being with so much compassion, drive, heart and a deep advocate for choosing to lead with love. Having grown up in Toronto’s west end, Tyrone travelled to the U.S. during high school to play basketball at Randallstown High School in Baltimore, MD. From there, a scholarship presented him with the opportunity to attend Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he played NCAA basketball while studying Business and Speech. While Tyrone’s career was taking off in the U.S., his heart was always rooted in Toronto and, in 2005, he returned to the city he loves. In 2007 he helped create the love letter to Toronto that is the 1LoveTO blog, a project that ultimately led him to join Much in 2011. Off-screen, Tyrone is heavily involved in his community, acting as a mentor and coach for underprivileged youth. Having once worked as a camp counselor with Toronto Parks and Recreation, Tyrone went on to found Concrete Hoops, a not-for-profit basketball camp that aims to incorporate life skills with the love of the game. He has also been a program leader with the urban youth-oriented Remix Project, an organization that helps kids from all 13 priority neighbourhoods in Toronto learn the fundamentals of the arts and entertainment business, and assisting them in their educational aspirations. In honour of his work as a television host and with numerous charities and foundations supporting underprivileged youth, Tyrone received the 2016 Mandela Legacy Hope, Success, and Empowerment Award, alongside Naomi Campbell, and Reverend Al Sharpton. The two chat about mindfulness, community, striving for a more balanced approach to life and embracing that love is greater than… well, everything. Follow Tyrone on IG: @mr1loveto

My Loyal Listeners, if at all possible, avoid calling the cops for help. This week we will look at just a handful of people who dialed 911 seeking assistance and ended up shot or tasered to death. Also, running away from police has become a coomon excuse for a curbside execution without due process. Police have boldly promoted themselves to Instant Judge, Jury, and Executioners. There were more police-involved shootings this week. A young teen was critically wounded by St. Louis police. Police say he had a gun. His name hasn't yet been released, but locals have confirmed that he is 14 yr old Tyrone Edwards. At least four men have been killed in Southern Californina in the last five days. There were two curbside executions over the weekend in Los Angeles. 18 yr old Carnell Snell Jr. ("CJ") was gunned down after running from police after a car chase. Another man was killed by police on Sunday and they have yet to release his name or any other information. Reginald Thomas was tasered and beaten to death after calling Pasedena cops for help while having a bipolar episode. Alfred Olango, of El Cajon, CA was having a seizure when his sister called police for help. When the police arrived, Olango pleaded, “don't shoot me.” Many people have called the police for help and have been shot to death by the police instead. We will look at some of those cases. In California, Gov. Brown has restored voting rights to felons in county jails. The Massachusetts supreme court declared that running from the police is reasonable thinking and may be the best thing for black men to do when approached by the cops. And the legendary story of a white man who shot two cops (one has died) and was aprehended without a scratch. All this and more. Tues, October 4, 6pm Pacific.
