 It is a privilege to welcome Day of the Fight's Jack Huston and Michael Pitt to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast.  Set in Brooklyn in the 1980s, Day of the Fight follows a once-celebrated middleweight boxer, Mikey Flannigan, AKA “Irish” (Michael Pitt), as he embarks on a day-long redemptive journey as he prepares for his first match since serving time in prison.  “Day of the Fight is an underdog story in its purest form,” said Jack Hutson, who wrote, co-produced, and directed the film. “This movie is about second chances, overcoming adversity against all odds, and above all, it's forgiveness.”   The 108-minute film also stars Nicolette Robinson, John Magaro, Kat Elisabeth Williams, Steve Buscemi, Ron Perlman, and Joe Pesci. Josh Porter, Jai Stefan, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Colleen Camp joined Jack Hutson on the production team.   In 2023, the movie was featured in various film festivals. It closed out the 2023 Austin Film Festival and was the opening night film for the 2023 International FilmFestival Mannheim-Heidelberg, Mill Valley, and Raindance Film Festivals. It was also an official selection for the 2023 Venice Film Festival.  Jack Hutson also won two director awards for the 2023 Newport Beach and SCAD Savannah Film Festivals.  On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Jack Hutson and Michael Pitt discussed the Day of the Fight filming process. Jakob Ingebrigtsen bounced back with a gold medal in the 5000m, Faith Kipyegon claimed her third Olympic title in the 1500m, and Team USA delivered stellar performances in both the men's and women's 4x400m relays. In the ninth edition of Torch Talk, the team dives into the day's top highlights... – Jakob Ingebrigtsen came back from his 1500m defeat to win gold in the 5000m for the third year in a row. Ronald Kwemoi of Kenya won silver and Grant Fisher won bronze. He became the first American man to win medals in the 5000m and 10,000m at the Olympics. – Faith Kipyegon won the third Olympic 1500m title of her career in an Olympic record of 3:51.29. She became the first athlete to ever win three golds at this distance in the Olympics. Jess Hull won silver for the first medal by an Australian woman in this event and Georgia Bell won bronze. – Emmanuel Wanyonyi won Kenya's 5th straight Olympic gold in the 800m, running 1:41.19 to become the 3rd-fastest athlete ever. Marco Arop took silver and Djamel Sedjati won bronze. The top four finishers all went under 1:42. – Masai Russell won the Olympic gold in the 100mH in a time of 12.33 seconds. Jasmine Camacho-Quinn takes silver and Cyrena Samba-Mayela wins France's first medal on the track of these games. – Kiwi Hamish Kerr beat the U.S.'s Shelby McEwen for high jump gold in an Olympic competition that came down to a jump-off. Mutaz Essa Barshim won bronze, his fourth Olympic medal in the event. – Team USA won the women's 4x400m relay while running the 2nd-fastest time ever in 3:15.27. The Netherlands took home silver and Team GB won bronze. – The U.S. men's 4x400m team won gold in 2:54.43, the 2nd-fastest time in history. The seventh of track and field action at the Paris Olympics was monumental in so many ways, and another stellar day for Team USA! Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone broke the world record en route to Olympic gold in the women's 400m hurdles and Tara Davis-Woodhall claimed gold in the long jump. In tonight's edition of Torch Talk, the team breaks down... – Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won her second Olympic gold in the women's 400mH and broke the world record for the sixth time, running 50.37. She is the first woman to ever win back-to-back Olympic golds in this event. Anna Cockrell set a huge PB to upset Femke Bol for silver. Bol settled for bronze in 52.15. – Letsile Tebogo upset Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek to win gold in the men's 200m, running an African record of 19.46. It's the first time the 200m Olympic crown has ever been won by an African man. Bednarek won silver for the second Games in a row and Lyles took home bronze. After the race, Lyles revealed he had tested positive for COVID earlier in the week. – Grant Holloway finally got an Olympic gold to go with his three world titles. He won in 12.99, his 5th time under 13 seconds this year. Daniel Roberts beat out Rasheed Broadbell by .003 seconds to win silver, making it another 1-2 for the U.S. – Tara Davis-Woodhall won the women's long jump competition with a best mark of 7.10m, her first global title outdoors. Malaika Mihambo, the defending champion, finished in silver and Jasmine Moore won bronze. After her triple jump bronze earlier in the meet, Moore becomes only the 2nd woman in history to medal in both horizontal jumps in the same Olympics. – Arshad Nadeem won the men's javelin competition in 92.97m, recording the 2 best throws in Olympic history in the process. The sixth day of track and field at the Olympics was another huge one for Team USA! Quincy Hall claimed the 400m gold medal while Kenneth Rooks shocked the world with a silver medal finish in the 3000m steeplechase. As the events roll on, it's clear that the American athletes are making a big splash and setting the stage for an exciting finish to the Games. In tonight's edition of the Torch Talk, the team breaks down… – Quincy Hall won the Olympic gold in the 400m at Paris 2024 in 43.40, making him the 4th-fastest man ever. Brit Matthew Hudson-Smith took bronze and Muzala Samukonga of Zambia took bronze. This was the fastest 400m race in history, as five men dipped under 44 seconds. – Soufiane El Bakkali became the first man in nearly 100 years to successfully defend his Olympic steeplechase gold, winning with a time of 8:06.05. Kenneth Rooks won silver with a big PB, and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya won bronze. – Nina Kennedy won the women's pole vault at the Paris 2024 Olympics, clearing a height of 4.90m. Her gold is the first at an Olympics by an Australian female vaulter. Reigning Olympic champ Katie Moon finished in silver, and Alysha Newman broke the Canadian record to win bronze. – Roje Stona of Jamaica set a new Olympic record with a 70.00-meter throw, earning the gold medal in men's discus in Paris. This marks Jamaica's first gold medal at the Paris Games and the nation's first-ever Olympic gold in men's discus. – In the 110m hurdles semifinal, Grant Holloway posted the fastest time of the day at 12.98 seconds. Day five of track and field at the Paris Olympics may have been the most electric day yet! We saw an epic finish in the men's 1500m with Cole Hocker taking the victory and Jakob Ingebrigtsen falling short of the podium. Meanwhile, Gabby Thomas won her first-ever Olympic title in the 200m. From Mondo Duplantis resetting his own world record (yet again) to the chaos of Faith Kipygeon being disqualified and later reinstated as the women's 5000m silver medallist, today was a memorable one. Day three's events were a rollercoaster of thrills, but stealing the spotlight was the men's 100m final – a race that had fans across the world on the edge of their seats from start to finish. In today's edition of Torch Talk, we recap… – Noah Lyles wins the first Olympic gold of his career by taking the 100m crown over Jamaica's Kishane Thompson. Last one, fast one?! The final day of the Olympic Trials was one for the history books. In every. single. event. that took place on the tracks yesterday afternoon, the Olympic Trials meet record was broken. In multiple events, simply qualifying for Team USA meant you had to produce a performance that ranked in the U.S. top-10 of all time. 12.37 in the 100m hurdles, 3:56.75 in the women's 1500m, and 1:44.12 in the men's 800m were only good enough for fourth place. The mantra of “iron sharpens iron” normally applies to training groups, but it certainly also applies to American track and field right now. When being top 10 in the world is not a guarantee of being top 3 in the U.S., the choice is simple: you elevate your game or you go home. The afternoon began with the 5000m final, where last year's U.S. champ Abdi Nur and this year's 10,000m champ Grant Fisher treated the fans to an epic duel over the final few laps. It took a sub-4 1600m to break the rest of the field, and in the final strides, Fisher was able to re-pass Nur and get his second title of the week, the first time he's completed the 10/5 double. Behind them, it was a similar battle for third between collegians Parker Wolfe and Graham Blanks, and it's still not clear whether Wolfe or Blanks will end up on Team USA. Wolfe needs a few scratches in the world rankings ahead of him, and Blanks has the auto standard. In the men's 800m, Bryce Hoppel won his sixth straight U.S. title (counting indoors), but he did it in the fastest time of his career, a 1:42.77. His training partner Hobbs Kessler snagged third and qualifies for both the 800m and 1500m, the first time an American man has done that since 1976. In the women's 100m hurdles, you could throw a blanket over the whole field with two hurdles remaining, but it was Masai Russell who closed the best and clocked a 12.25, the good for #4 on the world all-time list. Rai Benjamin did Rai Benjamin things in the men's 400m hurdles, cruising to a 46.47 world lead and meet record well ahead of the competition. The women's 1500m was an absolute battle — more on that below. And then we closed the weekend with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. McLaughlin-Levrone is used to being the star of the show, and honestly her biggest competition is usually the shadow of her past self. In the 400m hurdles final she had the benefit of a fast-starting Anna Cockrell on her outside, who stayed even with the Olympic champ for the first three hurdles and kept the pressure on early. But the real difference was that, coming around the final turn, McLaughlin-Levrone didn't shut it down like she normally does through the rounds, instead powering down the homestretch to an incredible new world record 50.65. For those keeping score at home, that's the fifth time McLaughlin-Levrone has lowered the world record. When she started, the world record she was breaking was Dalilah Muhammad's 52.16 from 2019, and now it's an incredible 1.51 seconds faster. SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS

A fitting theme for the penultimate day of competition at the 2024 Olympic Trials: it ain't over ‘til it's over. Just ask Monae' Nichols, who sat in fourth place in the final of the long jump competition. Nichols has a 6.97m personal best from 2022, but heading into Trials she was one centimeter shy of the Olympic qualifying standard with a 6.85m season's best. In her last jump of the competition, Nichols came up clutch in multiple ways, jumping her way from 5th into 3rd and improving her season's best to the 6.86m auto-qualifier. The long jump was full of drama, with eventual champion Tara Davis-Woodhall needing a mark in the third round just to keep jumping and eventually pulling out a 7.00m leap in the fifth round to defend her national title. And three different women held the third position in the final round of competition, with Lex Brown starting the round in third at 6.77m, then Quanesha Burks landing a 6.80m jump, and finally Nichols taking the critical final spot with her final effort. There's plenty of discourse around what role field events should play in the sport, and the women's long jump final was a perfect example of why the stakes, drama, and rivalries of the field half of the sport deserve a bigger spotlight. At the top of the ticket, the 200m finals went largely according to form with Gabby Thomas and Noah Lyles defending their U.S. titles in speedy times — 21.81 and 19.53. Both Thomas and Lyles finished third in Tokyo but head into Paris the favorite for gold. Behind Thomas, however, was a wild ride as #2 seed Sha'Carri Richardson was bested by 2019 World silver medalist Brittany Brown and NCAA champion McKenzie Long. Brown is an incredible gamer, making the team with a lifetime best of 21.90, and Long bounced back well after missing the final in the 100m. The 10,000m drama isn't just late-breaking; it may continue after the Trials end as Trials champ Weini Kelati secured her spot but 2nd- and 3rd-placers Parker Valby and Karissa Schweizer will have to await the final world rankings to know if they have a spot on the Olympic starting line. In the women's shot put, Tokyo silver medalist Raven Saunders set their third season's best in the competition after improving from 19.17m to 19.54m in the qualifying round, throwing 19.88m in the first round of the final and 19.90m on the last throw to finish 2nd and secure another spot on Team USA. Trials champ (and 2x World champ) Chase Jackson took home another U.S. title, but it also took her a little extra time and effort as she sat in fourth place halfway through the competition and only secured her Olympic spot with a 20.10m throw in the fourth round. Even when the eventual outcome is the top seed comes out victorious, a lot of anxiety, drama, and excitement can emerge along the way. The beauty of watching any track and field competition from start to finish is being able to take the roller coaster ride along with the athletes, and to feel the rush they feel when the script gets flipped in the final moments. The track is HOT. Okay, it's actually quite pleasant by Eugene-in-June standards, with temperatures in the high 70s and a pleasant breeze that always seems to be a tailwind in Hayward Field. But the performances laid down last night in Day 8 of the Olympic Trials sure heated up the stadium — even in events where we're not on finals yet. For the first time in history, three men broke 13 seconds in the same 110m hurdles race as Grant Holloway picked up his second national title, made his second Olympic team, and clocked the fourth-fastest performance in history ahead of Freddie Crittenden and Daniel Roberts's lifetime bests. Five men broke 20 seconds in the 200m semifinals led by Noah Lyles's wind-aided 19.60, and another epic battle between Gabby Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson is set up in the women's 200m final. While middle-distance rounds can sometimes get tactical, they sure didn't tonight. It took 4:05.36 to make the final of the women's 1500m, and the “heavy hitters” heat did not disappoint with Nikki Hiltz making a statement with a 4:01.40 win and five finishes at 4:02.14 or faster. The 1500m final will be absolutely stacked, and in the mixed zone competitors were suggesting that it may make times well under 4 minutes just to make the team. In the men's 800m, it's clear that qualifying for the Games in the 1500m has lifted a weight off Hobbs Kessler's shoulders, as he seems to be absolutely elated in each round of racing and led all semifinal qualifiers with a huge personal best of 1:43.71. Kessler skipped the 1:44s entirely as his PB heading into this weekend was 1:45.07. It's now officially the weekend and, bittersweetly, our final two days of action, so make sure you don't miss any of these incredible competitions over the last few finals. Did you miss us?! The U.S. Olympic Trials are back and better than ever in the second half of the 8-day program, with incredible drama, upsets, and underdog stories across the board. The race of the day (and perhaps the week?) was the women's steeplechase, where a fast early pace and a topsy-turvy final lap ended with a whole slew of personal bests and rewriting of the record books. Tokyo Olympian Val Constien ended up on top thanks to a phenomenal final 400m, running 9:03.22 to PR by 11 seconds and land at #3 on the U.S. all-time list. Constien had ACL surgery last year and after a long road back is better than ever. We got our first peeks at the 400m hurdles crew, and the main takeaway from the first round is that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Rai Benjamin are looking like world beaters out for an easy jog. McLaughlin-Levrone in particular shut it down entirely over the final two laps and still ran 53.07, the third-fastest performance in the world this year behind her own season's best and Femke Bol's world lead. Speaking of first looks, Erriyon Knighton doesn't seem to have missed a step as he ran his first 200m in four months, cruising through the first round with a 20.15 just behind Noah Lyles's 20.10 in an earlier heat. And a stacked final is set for the 5000m, where reigning U.S. champ Abdi Nur takes on two of the three members of Team USA in the 10,000m, the 1500m Trials champ, and two NCAA champs. The middle-distance rounds will continue to get more and more cutthroat, with the women's 1500m featuring Elle St. Pierre, Heather MacLean, Cory McGee, Emily MacKay, Elise Cranny, Nikki Hiltz, Sinclaire Johnson, and more heading to the semis and Olympians Bryce Hoppel and Clayton Murphy looking ready to once again do battle in the 800m.

Some of the biggest highlights from Day 3 of the U.S. Olympic Trials include: – Men's 100m final: The pre-race drama and hype delivered on the track as Noah Lyles won the U.S. title in 9.83, tying his lifetime best. Kenny Bednarek made his first 100m team with a lifetime best of his own running 9.87. The CITIUS MAG team dives into another exciting day of track and field from the second day of the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Some of today's top highlights include:  – Women's 100m final: Sha'Carri Richardson, the reigning World champ, will be representing Team USA in Paris after winning the Olympic Trials 100m final in 10.71. – Women's 100m final: Melissa Jefferson ran a personal best of 10.80 to take the second spot and TeeTee Terry posted a season's best of 10.89 to round out the podium. All three are Star Athletics training partners! – Men's shot put final: Ryan Crouser opened his season with his 5th straight national title.
