Every hero STARTS as a CHILD, and every Child can CHOOSE to become a Hero... Just like THIS one!Abigail Smith loved writing letters to other people. She was just a little girl, so her words were not always spelled correctly, but people really enjoyed getting letters from Abigail and were glad that she cared enough to write to them. When Abigail Smith grew up, she married a young lawyer named John Adams, and she became Abigail Adams. John had a farm where he and Abigail and their children lived for several years, then the family moved to Boston. A while later, war broke out between the American colonies and England. Abigail and her children moved back to the farm where they could be safer and HELP Colonial soldiers who passed through by cooking for them and caring for those who had been hurt in battle. Once the war was over, John Adams was elected to be the first Vice-President of the United States, serving with George Washington. Later, John was elected President, and Abigail became the First Lady of the land. Later on, her oldest son, John Quincy Adams became the sixth President of the United States, so she was not only the wife of a President but also the mother of a President. Through all of her experiences with the farm, the war, the soldiers, being a President s wife, and a President s mother, Abigail wrote hundreds of wonderful letters, because she cared enough to share what she saw, what she heard, and how she felt about all that was going on around her. Today we have important information about those days over 200 years ago that we might not have had otherwise, all thanks to a little girl and then a lady who cared. And caring made Abigail Adams a HERO! That's what I know about the beginning of This Hero, and I know that YOU Can Be a Hero TOO!Dear Parents, After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. Research has shown the TCN Method™ to be the single most effective school based Violence and Bully Prevention Intervention of its entire genre. We have hundreds of testimonials from educators describing the results they have gotten, and you can view many of these at http://www.thecharacternetwork.org/Testimonials (www.TheCharacterNetwork.org/Testimonials) This program, The Beginning of a Famous Hero™ is used in conjunction with a companion program called Bully Alert!™ in schools played over the intercom during morning announcements twice or more each school week, and backed up by a common culture which reinforces the principles taught, at every turn, and incorporates the phrases of the academic language during any teachable moment. These two sets of stories work together to convey a common academic language which says, “A bully is a person who hurts others on purpose (even if it's just hurting their feelings) but a HERO is a person who HELPS... Texans, our Mexican Friends, Californians, and the compassionate citizens of America and the world, we are at a turning point in history. The States, the former United States, was once a great democracy, the greatest and most powerful country in the world. We all know that that day has passed. But how does America regain its footing and play a valuable role on the world stage? Your leaders say they are in Texas to protect the energy center in Dallas from terrorists like myself. They are rewriting history and claiming that the militia was created and threatened the center before the States invaded. I do not know what videos the States has created to support this narrative, nor how to prove to the listeners in the States, that what I say is the truth. The truth is that the militia was created because the States invaded Texas, not the other way around. Let’s look at a little history to see who’s story makes more sense, the story your leaders in the States are giving you, or the story of the people of Texas. How did we get to this point in history where the States with its military might is sending troops into Texas, a neighboring country and former member of the once-great United States? First, it is not an accident that we find ourselves here on the edge of a revolution. Decisions have been made by the States, by Texas, by California, and even by Mexico that have brought us to this point in history. Let me tell you my story of the States, how I see what has gone down. I am sure your leaders will explain to you that I got it all wrong. I want you to listen to my words, and even more to my heart, because deep down I care about you and the abyss your country has fallen into. We are here to help you if you reach out and ask for help and are willing to make some real changes in how you see yourselves and us. If you are not willing to make these changes, we will not let you in the interim take what is not yours so that you can continue down a road that has not been working for fifty years. When did the States stop being a great country? Perhaps your decline began when you let the Oligarchs with their lobbyists take the country away from the American voter and worker. This led directly to California breaking away in 2044 and Texas in 2050. How we averted war is one of the good chapters in our history together. When we left, lobbyists had already been more important and powerful than voters for many decades. The States had given up trying to overturn Citizens United by amendment. Instead, the ineffectiveness of the government to respond to the will of the people, and the stoking of tribalism by both parties had given rise to polarization and even hatred between the left and the right. Splitting the country into three countries enabled California and Texas to free themselves of the power of the Oligarchs and lobbyists. What we have is not perfect, but we do have democracies in California and Texas. I do not believe that can be said of the States anymore. You have the battling of two groups of Oligarchs for the right to pillage the American citizens. listen for more --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/alamo/message

Americans with disabilities compose approximately 50 million people today, and yet remains largely removed from the historical record. The road to recognition has been long and varied; from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s use of a wheelchair while in office, to the popularity of “freak shows,” wherein physical ailments were put on display. How have organizations and activist groups groups dealt with stigma and asked for rights to be able to participate in the public sphere in the United States? First year history graduate student John Carranza, specializing in disability history, sheds some light on historical representations of disability, and how modern understanding of disability is informed by the past.
