Hello to you Indivisible Whidbey activists listening  in Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Greenbank, Freeland, Langley, Bayview, and Clinton on Whidbey Island, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.  On Friday 18th April, 2025 I posted my 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday episode entitled “What Difference Can 1 Ordinary Person Make?” about Granny D Haddock who walked across America in her 90th year to bring attention to campaign finance reform. Click HERE to access that episode. As Granny D walked across America she was asked to speak at rallies, churches, community gatherings, and the like. The following is a short piece from a speech Granny D delivered at the Buck Jackson Rodeo Arena in Pecos, Texas on May 14th, 1999:“Never be discouraged from being an activist because people tell you that you'll not succeed. You have already succeeded if you're out there representing truth or justice or compassion or fairness or love. You already have your victory because you are changing the world; you are changing the status quo; you are changing the chemistry of things. And changes will spread from you, will be easier to happen again in others because of you because, believe it or not you with your activism are the center of the world.”  CTA: Maybe like me you are coming to realize that activist work is not a job, but a calling to work together. We are called to work together to make the world a better place for all of us doing what we can with what we have for as long as we are needed.Thank you for listening and being one of us!You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" But one fateful day, tragedy struck, wiping out the town's livelihood and leaving behind a ghost town in every sense of the word. What happened to Greenbank's Hollow? Who knew a town with a population of less than a hundred residents could make such an impact on the Multiverse? We never doubted the possibility. When you visit Green Bank, you'll enjoy a quiet, uninterrupted experience exploring the observatory – unlike Captain America and the Falcon. The Green Bank Observatory offers bus tours of the campus and takes you close to the jaw-dropping 485-foot telescope. While you're here, explore the Science Center and the Exhibit Hall to learn about the telescope's contributions to research and the history behind the observatory.  Read more: https://wvtourism.com/this-small-west-virginia-town-plays-a-big-role-in-captain-america-brave-new-world/   #2 – From JOBCASE – Looking for a job with good pay, full benefits, and the opportunity to advance? Learn more: https://www.jobcase.com/articles/wv-dcr   #3 – From GAZETTE-MAIL – After spending its first 22 years working to restore and protect the Coal River system, the Coal River Group is now setting its sights on promoting tourism in the five-county corridor through which the 88-mile Coal River system passes. “We're transitioning from being primarily a fix-it group to a tourism development organization,” said Coal River Group co-founder and board chairman Bill Currey of St. Albans. “The river's changed dramatically for the better in the past 22 years. It's been exciting to see all the positive things that have happened to it. Now, it's time to take on a new challenge.” The group has led the effort to build 20 public stream access sites along the river system and mapped out a water trail connecting them. They also placed historic markers and signage at the former locks site used by barges and steamboats to haul coal prior to the Civil War. Today, more than 15,000 paddlers, most of them kayakers, ply the waters of the Coal River system every year. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created to safeguard air and water quality, but has it gone too far in expanding its reach? In this episode of American Potential, host David From is joined by Jeremiah Mosteller, Policy Director for Americans for Prosperity, to expose how the EPA is using taxpayer dollars for programs that go far beyond its core mission. From $600 million in grants just to help groups apply for more funding, to $3 billion allocated for union jobs under the guise of environmental initiatives, the agency's spending raises serious concerns about efficiency and oversight. We also dive into the controversial Green Bank program, the burdensome bureaucracy causing some grant recipients to reject EPA funding altogether, and the duplication of spending across multiple agencies. With the goal of cutting $2 trillion in government waste, this episode highlights real solutions to rein in excessive spending. Plus, find out how you can submit your own ideas to help identify wasteful government programs. Tune in to uncover the truth about how your tax dollars are being spent!

These projects save energy, lower greenhouse gas emissions, create healthy living and working environments, foster a more resilient economy and environment, and help the county achieve its environmental goals. Laura Mondragon is the Director for Climate Resilience of the Montgomery County Green Bank (MCGB). She comes to the Green Bank with a professional background in international climate finance, with experience in designing, assessing, and implementing climate and sustainable finance programs with public stakeholders in emerging economies. NY Green Bank is a New York State-sponsored investment fund dedicated to filling financing gaps in clean energy and sustainable infrastructure markets. Their investments contribute to greenhouse gas emissions reductions, energy efficiency, clean energy generation, and the mobilization of private capital in key market sectors.  NY Green Bank uses public capital to mobilize private investment into underserved green sectors, filling market gaps and advancing public climate targets, with the goal of enabling private investors to expand their sustainable infrastructure portfolios in a meaningful way. The green bank model has been active and growing for over a dozen years, with green banking institutions operating at the local, state, regional, and national levels, both as government-affiliated agencies and as independent non-profits. Kaitlin Butler is a Vice President on NY Green Bank's Investment and Portfolio Management team where she supports the origination, evaluation, and execution of scalable clean energy and efficiency project investments across New York State. America's green bank – officially known as the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund – is ramping up. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the federal government is sending $27 billion to a network of non-profit organizations, state green banks, and local private lenders to fund distributed energy projects.  The pressure is on to invest those dollars quickly and efficiently. The GGRF won't be considered successful if it only deploys that $27 billion – it will be successful if it catalyzes 5x more in capital deployment.  That means building a transparent market with uniform lending standards for CDFIs and local banks – lenders that may be touching solar, storage or other distributed energy deals for the very first time.  The money is headed out the door. Are lenders ready to deploy it?  This week, we're featuring a conversation with Amanda Li of Banyan Infrastructure and Billy Briscoe of the Clean Energy Fund of Texas. It was recorded live as part of Latitude Media's Frontier Forum series.  We'll unpack the details, the urgency, any potential gaps, and the stakes for building a market. This episode was produced in collaboration with Banyan Infrastructure. Read more of Banyan's insights into the GGRF here.

Earlier this year, the US Environmental Protection Agency announced a $156 million grant to a Cleveland organization to fund an effort to ensure access to solar power for low-income communities across the Midwest. Although solar power has been available in this country for decades, the upfront cost of even small residential solar arrays has been prohibitively expensive for all but the wealthiest and most committed homeowners. The EPA's support of Growth Opportunity Partners (Growth Opps) could change that.rnrnThe EPA grant provides the seed capital needed for the GO Green Energy Fund, the nation's first African American led Green Bank, which was created by Growth Opps in 2020. The goal of the Green Bank is more than just access to solar power for residents of poor communities. It's a step towards fundamentally restructuring the regional economy to disrupt intergenerational poverty, while supporting low-income Midwesterners in building wealth and improving health outcomes-all while helping the nation and the globe address climate change.rnrnGrowth Opps Founding CEO Michael Jeans has been working towards this for years. On the previous episode we explored the only 1920s BBC recording (that we know of), recorded off-air by Mr Jones of Croydon.  This time on episode 86, we encounter the only other off-air radio recordings of the interwar years (that I know of): the 1932 recordings by Mr F.O. Brown of Greenbank. His grandson Alex cleared out the family attic as recently as 2016, discovering these bizarre metal discs with no idea what they contained, or how to listen to them. Alex consulted the British Sound Library, the internet, and wherever else he could find knowhow on playing these records to preserve the sounds. What he found was several dozen 1930s recordings, from BBC jazz bands to radio royalty, from George Bernard Shaw to his own grandfather giving a spoof tour of Edinburgh.  This episode we chat to Alex about his painstaking work preserving these recordings, and we hear a few. Enjoy Henry Hall opening Broadcasting House, extracts from the 1932 Royal Command Performance, and Reginald Foort and his big organ (stop it). Then head to http://greenbank-records.com/1930s-recordings#/samples/ to hear the rest! You'll also find Alex's illuminating blog at http://greenbank-records.com/blog 1932 was the year the BBC started recording themselves, but only very sparingly. Most of these recordings are the only surviving copy of each broadcast - and there aren't many more pre-WW2 recorded broadcasts at all. Thanks to Alex for sharing his story and the recordings, and thanks to F.O. Brown for using his EKCO Radiocorder to do what so many of us have done over the years: in my case, push the record and play buttons on a cassette recorder while Steve Wright was on Radio 1... or in my children's case, recording themselves playing Radio 2 jingles on the Wise Buddah website... but in this case, assembling a recording device from scratch to preserve monarchs and music on disc, so we can still hear them today.   SHOWNOTES: Head to Greenbank Records for the full works. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority Board has created the New Jersey Green Bank to support the state's clean energy transition. The Green Bank will use various financial tools such as debt and credit enhancements to invest and attract private capital for New Jersey's clean energy sector. The bank will focus on projects, technologies, and companies that support the state's climate goals. Particularly in areas like zero emission transportation, building decarbonization and resiliency, and clean energy generation and storage like wind energy. Phil, this is unique for the United States where a separate state has created a bank to fund renewable projects. Philip Totaro: Yeah, this is really interesting and compelling that other states have tried employing other forms of investment vehicles to try and park money into project development, but this is a pretty unique thing where they're going to specifically focus on clean energy. And, do it with it sounds like the help of federal funding that they've been able to obtain. This is going to be great for offshore wind and battery storage technology, I think, deployed throughout the state of New Jersey. All in all I think this is a win. Joel Saxum: Yeah, I like the in the press conference here, they state each investment made by the NJGB must demonstrate benefits for New Jersey. Great, it's their state, it's their money. But, this is the part I like. It must be new, rather than refinance and reduce greenhouse combustion greenhouse gas emissions or other pollutants. So it has to have, measurable effect for helping the climate out. And it must be new, so it's putting new things out there. And I know like New Jersey right now is actually pretty heavy on doing quite a few solar installations as well. A lot of good things coming there. I would like to see other states put this into place. Allen Hall: Helena Cable Americas, a subsidiary of Synergy Holdings. has been allocated a 58 million tax credit for its planned cable factory in, of all places, Baltimore, Maryland. The company intends to build a 300 FID, that will manufacture subsea and underground cables for offshore wind and power grid applications. Helena Cable America successfully applied to the Department of Energy and received an allocation letter from the IRS granting its request for a qualifying advanced energy project transferable tax credit, or as we call it IRA 48C. Now Phil, the IRA 48C, we haven't experienced a lot of that yet. Helena Cable's is one of the early entries there. What do you think so far? Philip Totaro: So this is great.

The NFU said it didn't go far enough to offer stability for agricultural businesses, growth in food production and decarbonising the sector. Friends of the Earth described it as: 'yet another missed opportunity to properly invest in building a strong, clean and prosperous future.' The Tenant Farmers Association said it was 'bitterly disappointed' that inheritance tax relief on farms hadn't been restricted only to those renting land out on a long term basis. While the Country Land and Business Association welcomed the extension of tax relief to land in environmental schemes, it said changes on taxing short term lets risked squeezing and stifling rural businesses. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said it was all about long term growth and encouraging people back to work. I am super happy to announce that we hit our Kickstarter goal in just 3 hours. And as I record this, the campaign has already doubled its initial goal. So I decided to launch the first stretch goal. If we can reach $5000, then you will get a 2 - hour Celtic Rock special on August 31. I was not planning an episode that day. So you'll have an extra episode in August. I hope you enjoyed the two bonus mini - episodes I released. I plan to do two more next week before the campaign ends on Friday, August 11 at 8 AM eastern. So please make a pledge. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos. In 2023, we're going on a Celtic Invasion of County Mayo in Ireland. We're gonna explore the area and get to know Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen. Email me at celticpodcast@gmail, message me on Facebook, or contact me through Mastodon @celtfather@c.im. Phil Hartline replied to the Celtic Music Magazine: “I listen in my shop, where I make musical instruments and general wood projects.   I am celebrating Celtic Culture through music by learning to play the fiddle! I have a wonderful opportunity to learn true Co. Clare style from a man who spent a lot of time there. Beginner that I am, I will still be playing tunes on my fiddle to celebrate!" Paul replied: "Marc, I was sitting at my computer writing code ... as one does .. "For St Patrick's Day?" I will be participating in an Irish Road Bowling event with my co - workers at the Green Bank Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia We started back in October, listening to music for Samhain, then continued into November and December with Celtic Christmas ... and really we listen to Celtic music year - round  -  but I will be celebrating Celtic culture by wearing the green on Friday while I'm busy at Ból an bhóthair, then hoisting a proper stout afterwards. Going to a fife and drum reunion in July (in Williamsburg, VA), where I will be playing a heck - ton of good Irish, Scots, and Welsh music (as well as a smattering of German and English marches, because, well, 18th C. Military music was all over the place) We always enjoy your shows!!!" PENNIERICH replied: "During the show we usually take a break and just relax and listen.” Jesse Ferguson emailed: "I'll be listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast at work that day, then practicing my favourite Irish songs at home on my guitar. Finally, I'll be activating a new Irish song on my YouTube channel, to share with my subscribers, a tradition I've kept going for over 12 years." Michael Maccarone emailed: "Marc Gunn, I usually download episodes and stockpile them. I listen to them on (my rare) vacations, after I have broken them down into 20 - 25 minute chunks (my mp3 player won't rewind within a track, so I split each episode into 3 - 5 mini episodes, which makes it easier if I missed something and want to go back). As a result, I'm only up to episode #430 so far. I don't have any specific Celtic culture plans [for St Patrick's Day] for this week, other than I just watched the Oscar - winning short, An Irish Goodbye yesterday, and hope to get to the Banshees of Inisheerin in the next couple of weeks. Keep up the good work!"

Green Bank, West Virginia, is a tiny community in the rugged US Appalachian Mountains of the USA. The town resembles dozens of other small towns in the area—with one major exception. None of the 142 residents have access to the internet. This total disconnect isn’t a technology boycott or a desire to get back to a simpler lifestyle. The absence of Wi-Fi access or cellular phone towers is because of the Green Bank Observatory, whose telescope is constantly trained on the sky. To prevent interference with the leading-edge technology of the observatory, local officials do not allow citizens to use high-tech communication devices. As a result, Green Bank is one of the most technologically quiet places in North America. Sometimes quiet is the best environment for moving forward—especially in our relationship with God. Jesus Himself modeled this by retreating to quiet, secluded places to talk with His Father. In Luke 5:16 we read, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Perhaps the key word there is often. This was Christ’s regular practice, and it sets the perfect example for us. If the Creator of the universe was this aware of His dependence upon His Father, how much more do we need Him! Retreating to a quiet place to be refreshed in God’s presence equips us to go forward in His renewing strength. Where can you find such a place today?
