This week's guest is Fred Eltringham! If you listened to our recent episode with Sterling Laws, you heard Fred get a lot of love as one of Sterling's five picks—so it was an honor to finally have him on the show himself. And I gotta say…his voice is so soothing and calm. Puts mine to shame. Fred has been playing with Sheryl Crow since 2012, but his résumé also includes The Wallflowers, The Chicks, kd lang, Willie Nelson, Gigolo Aunts, Juliana Hatfield, Ben Kweller, and plenty more. He's a steady, calm ship at sea behind the kit, and it seems like songwriters line up around the block to work with him. In addition to his international touring with Sheryl, you can catch him on Instagram whenever he's doing something cool in Nashville—especially with Jules Belmont, as part of their tasty little instrumental group. So, please enjoy my chat with Fred Eltringham about the five records that shaped him into the musician he is today. Cheers! --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

Can compassionate action sometimes cause more harm than good? Join us as we explore this provocative question, diving into the heart of the immigration debate and the challenges it poses to our nation. In this episode of the American Soul Podcast, we begin with a fervent prayer, recognizing the significance of nurturing our spiritual lives and relationships. We navigate the complex terrain of illegal immigration, examining how opening borders indiscriminately might neglect the needs of those within our own country. We challenge listeners to ponder the balance between empathy and responsibility, and the implications of cultural assimilation. As the conversation progresses, we scrutinize how media and entertainment, like events at the Grammys, often blur the lines between showcasing creativity and endorsing immorality. This discussion naturally evolves into a reflection on our personal media consumption and how it aligns with our quest for personal growth as Christians, spouses, and individuals. Drawing inspiration from historical figures like Fisher Ames, we discuss the enduring relevance of biblical teachings in addressing modern issues and the importance of fostering wisdom in our daily lives. Finally, we delve into early education's role in cultivating moral and linguistic unity, using the Marine Corps' training approach as a metaphor for building cohesive communities. By teaching from a common foundation, we can instill shared values and principles that promote a harmonious society. As we ponder these weighty topics, we conclude with blessings for families, marriages, and our nation. Join us for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion that seeks to bridge compassion with practical responsibility, all while maintaining a focus on unity and foundational values.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe

We analyse Willie Mullins' runner and provide value recommendations, including one horse that could significantly shorten from the 14/1 currently offered by Geoff Banks. With The New Lion a red-hot favorite for the Turners Novices' Hurdle, we ask: have people overlooked the poor record of Challow Hurdle winners at the Cheltenham Festival? Considering that, who can beat him? There's a big disagreement about The Yellow Clay, while Adam shares a 20/1 dark horse for the race. The Potato Race is often a minefield, but Adam has a strong each-way fancy. We also delve into the intriguing juvenile hurdle division and ask if any contenders could step up to the Supreme. Adam shares a strong theory and a bet for the race. Horses discussed: Salvator Mundi, Romeo Coolio, Kaid d'Authie, Kopek Des Bordes, Workahead, Kawaboomga, The New Lion, The Yellow Clay, Final Demand, Potters Charm, Irancy, Jax Junior, Funiculi Funicula, Jet Blue, Zillow, Redemption Day, Regent's Stroll, Lulamba, East India Dock, Hello Neighbour, Lady Vega Allen, Palladium, Sainte Lucie, Mondo Man, Charlus, Live Conti, Stencil. Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
Today, we've got another segment of the podcast called Big Fat Five. This is where I invite my favorite drummers on the show to break down the five records that helped shape their approach to the instrument. This format also inspired my book, Drummers on Drumming, which is available now as a paperback or ebook on Amazon. Today's guest is Jared Shavelson. I met Jared through a mutual buddy and Big Fat Five alum, Mike Robinson. Jared is the real deal. He studied jazz in college but left early to kickstart his career—and it's safe to say that decision paid off. Over the years, he's played with Seal, The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx, Joyce Manor, The Hope Conspiracy, Paint It Black, The Aquabats, and so many others. I just saw him perform with Mariachi El Bronx on New Year's Eve, opening for Morrissey at The Palladium. He was playing a cocktail kit, and the Afro-Cuban rhythms he was laying down were absolutely insane—I was completely blown away. Now, we were supposed to record this a few days ago, but life in LA had other plans. Between the fires and travel chaos, it was hard to pin down a time. Jared ended up flying out of Los Angeles Thursday night, only to get stuck in Atlanta during a snowstorm when his flight was canceled. After being stranded at the airport for 18 hours, he decided to help pass the time by hopping on the mic with me. That's why the audio in this episode might be a little rough—picture Jared huddled in the corner of a busy terminal while we recorded. --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

AstroForge is focused on mining metallic asteroids rich in platinum group metals, which are critical for various industrial applications.Near-Earth Asteroids Offer Better Opportunities: Contrary to Hollywood depictions of mining in the asteroid belt, near-Earth asteroids are more accessible and practical targets for mining. These asteroids are closer to Earth and contain valuable materials, making them ideal for the initial stages of space resource exploitation. The Importance of Platinum Group Metals: Platinum, rhodium, palladium, and other platinum group metals are integral to modern technology, found in everything from electronics to industrial equipment. Mining these materials in space could revolutionize supply chains and reduce the environmental impact of terrestrial mining. The Role of Technology in Exploration: AstroForge uses cutting-edge sensors, spectrometry, and imaging systems to study and identify the best asteroids for mining. These technologies allow for remote analysis of asteroid composition, paving the way for efficient resource extraction missions.Spacecraft Design for Deep Space: AstroForge is designing spacecraft optimized for deep space exploration, which operate in the harsh conditions beyond Earth's gravity well. Challenges like radiation, thermal management, and propulsion systems are central to the company's engineering efforts.Economic and Environmental Impacts of Space Mining: Space mining has the potential to make terrestrial mining for certain materials economically obsolete, reducing environmental damage and the hazardous conditions associated with deep-earth mining operations. The company's vision includes making Earth a better place by shifting resource extraction to space. The Evolution of the Space Industry: The space sector is evolving rapidly, with private companies leading the charge in areas traditionally dominated by government agencies. AstroForge's mission is a testament to this shift, focusing on commercializing deep space exploration and mining with innovative strategies and cost-efficient technologies.
