The Thought Bubble Sequential Comic Art Festival, to give the show its original and grand title, made the venue transition and took over the Harrogate Exhibition Centre in North Yorkshire over the weekend of Saturday 9th/Sunday 10th November, with thousands of eager comics fans braving the elements to celebrate some of the worlds best comics creators, artists, writers and publishers. The type of exhibitor who has a unique take on what is happening at shows such as Thought Bubble are those that don't necessarily have anything to sell, per se: writers, artists or people that have contributed to a book or comic, rather than publishing it themselves. One such creative at this years festival was master illustrator Alison Sampson, the incredible artist behind comics such as WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD (for Image Comics) and the recent Mumbai-set run in Mark Miller's HIT-GIRL, written by the genius that is Peter Milligan and masterfully coloured by Triona Farrell. Alison joined Leonard for an interview that was recorded for his HWD Hospital Radio show, Lenny's Little Slice O' Nerd, as part of a Thought Bubble Special broadcast on Thursday 14th November. In the interview, Alison talked about her own experiences of the festival, especially as someone who was able to take around two young family members on a rare wander from behind her very busy table! She also talks about the importance of having such a show such as Thought Bubble in the UK, as well as what TBF could further develop, moving forward in its new home. Thanks to Alison for taking the time to talk to us for the interview - it was most appreciated! On this week's episode of Off Panel, artist Alison Sampson joins the show to talk about her Image Comics series, Winnebago Graveyard. She discusses her architectural background, how her architecture background influences her comic art, panel layouts, her art process, backmatter, whether Winnebago Graveyard is more of a book market comic, women working on horror comics, whether she's gotten faster as an artist, getting bogged down in details, breaking in after an entirely different career, what Winnebago Graveyard taught her as a creator, Think of a City's present and future, and more.

May I present a recording of one of the panels that I hosted at the inaugural Meanwhile... Comic Con, held in Chichester on Saturday 30th September: we spent time with artist/illustrator Alison Sampson, who has made a splash most recently with Image Comics release WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD (written by Steve Niles). We can't deny, Alison is not a massively known quantity by the mainstream comics crowd and the attendance of Meanwhile... was very much a young audience, more familiar with the Marvels and DC's of this world - when we got the session started, we had three or four young 'uns in the room and to that end, we decided to abandon the tradition panel layout and just sit in the audience seats and have a 'fireside chat'. What happened then became a highlight of the event for me: people wandering in, getting swept into the conversation and turning our time into a cracking chat about that craft of creating comic art of substance, about horror comics in 2017 and what it takes to really get under the skin of a reader. I had a blast, Alison had a blast, and our eventual reasonably sized audience had a blast! In much the same way as they discovered the conversation themselves, I hope you can muddle through the background noise, pull up a chair and enjoy our time with Alison Sampson...
