Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland —talk about the retrial of murder suspect Michael Colucci, who is accused of strangling his wife Sara-Lynn Moore Colucci 10 years ago in Summerville, South Carolina, and how the age and health of his high-profile (and high-cost) attorney contributed to the constant trial delays. Is this yet another trick of the defense attorney trade in South Carolina? Leveraging an attorney's health in court to benefit defendants … and further hurt victims? Also on the show it's been four years since Alex Murdaugh murdered his wife and son … and why phrasing it that way matters. Plus churchy business bro “Pastor” JP Miller marries his alleged longtime mistress Suzie Skinner in a highly public (but still dumpy) beach ceremony. There's a lot to say there. ☕ Cups Up! ⚖️ Episode References “Colleton County man goes to trial, accused of setting wife on fire, killing her” - Live5, Nov 4, 2024
The dead don't usually testify at their own murder trials, but in the smoke-stained alleys of Chicago, I learned that some victims refuse to let their killers walk free — even from beyond the grave.Watch the VIDEO VERSION of this episode: https://weirddarkness.com/noir-selfsolvingmurderTHE TRUE CRIME CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: In 1977, Teresita Basa, a 48-year-old respiratory therapist in Chicago, was found murdered in her burned-out apartment. Months later, police received a bizarre tip from a man claiming his wife, Remy Chua — who had briefly worked with Basa — was channeling messages from Basa's ghost during trances. According to the spirit, she had been murdered by a coworker named Allan Showery, who then staged the scene and stole her jewelry. Investigators followed the supernatural lead and discovered many details matched real evidence. Showery's girlfriend even confirmed he had given her Basa's jewelry. Confronted with mounting proof, Showery confessed to the crime. Despite the strange nature of the case, Teresita Basa became known as “the woman who solved her own murder from beyond the grave.ORIGINAL CASE SOURCES…https://www.ranker.com/list/teresita-basa-case/patrick-thorntonMusic provided by Alibi Music Library= = = = ="I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness." — John 12:46= = = = =WeirdDarkness® is a registered trademark. Day 3 of Lori Vallow Daybell's final murder conspiracy trial revealed devastating digital evidence that could seal her fate forever. Detective Ryan Pillar's explosive testimony exposed how Alex Cox's burner phone created an electronic trail leading directly to the attempted assassination of Brandon Boudreaux on October 2, 2019. This comprehensive analysis breaks down the most damning evidence presented in Phoenix Superior Court, including cell phone records that place Lori and Alex in direct communication during the shooting, vehicle modifications that transformed a Jeep into a mobile hunting platform, and post-crime Google searches that reveal consciousness of guilt. We examine how Brandon Boudreaux immediately identified his attackers, the sophisticated planning behind the failed murder attempt, and Lori's controversial decision to represent herself in court. The forensic evidence is staggering: gunshot residue throughout the Jeep's interior, DNA evidence on multiple surfaces, license plate reader data tracking the vehicle's journey from Idaho to Arizona, and surveillance footage of the defendants removing evidence from storage units. Detective Pillar's testimony revealed Alex Cox's extensive preparation, including researching Brandon's address, studying shooting ranges, calculating trajectory angles, and mapping escape routes. Lori Vallow Daybell's cross-examination strategy exposed genuine investigative gaps while simultaneously demonstrating her understanding of criminal procedure. Her questioning highlighted untested glass fragments, missing bullet casings, absent surveillance footage, and transcription errors in witness interviews. However, her post-shooting internet searches for "man shot in gilbert az" and attempts to track news coverage reveal a defendant aware of and concerned about the crime's outcome. This attempted murder represents the final piece in a broader conspiracy that allegedly eliminated anyone Lori and Chad Daybell viewed as obstacles to their apocalyptic plans. Already serving life sentences for murdering her children JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan, plus conspiracy to murder husband Charles Vallow, this trial marks Lori's last chance to face accountability for the full scope of her alleged crimes. The psychological implications are profound: a mother representing herself in court while facing charges for systematically eliminating family members who opposed her doomsday beliefs. We analyze the courtroom dynamics, Judge Justin Beresky's attempts to maintain order after Friday's dramatic removal, and the prosecution's methodical presentation of circumstantial evidence that builds an overwhelming case for premeditated conspiracy. #LoriVallow #DoomsdayMom #TrueCrime #BrandonBoudreaux #MurderTrial #AlexCox #ChadDaybell #CellPhoneEvidence #ForensicEvidence #CourtAnalysis Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? As a child, chef Graeme Stockdale was embarrassed by the smell of sauerkraut and pickles that would trail him from his Polish and German grandparents' home. A transformative encounter with a barbecued duck in Singapore changed his life, though nothing would prepare him for two monumental floods in his adopted region of Lismore, NSW.Graeme was only a boy when he was introduced to the power and ferocity of fire. As a nine-year-old living in Albany, Western Australia he lit a fire out of curiosity on a neighbour's property. It was the look on his mother's face that turned his experience from awesome into terrifying.Graham grew up with the flavours of his grandparents' German and Polish ancestry, raised by a single mum, and experienced social isolation brought on by the judgement of kids at school. After the barbecued duck experience, his whole world became focused on food, and he eventually opened his own restaurant in Lismore, NSW.Graeme survived two major floods, and in the aftermath, cooked on his barbecue non-stop for weeks, outside his ruined restaurant, feeding his community with help from volunteers.Further informationRead more about Graeme's restaurant in Lismore, The Stockpot Kitchen.Graeme's cookbook, Red Hot & Smokin'! was published by New Holland Publishers in 2019.Conversations' Executive Producer is Nicola Harrison. Six Weeks of Terror is a gripping true crime story that unravels the chilling timeline of Fernando Cota — a convicted rapist who slipped through the cracks and went on to terrorize a city. (Rum, Jealously, and Murder) *** Over the course of just two years, Christopher Duntsch operated on 38 patients in the Dallas area, leaving 31 paralyzed or seriously injured and two of them dead. It's no wonder he was given the morbid nickname of “Dr. Death”. (Doctor Death) *** A child's game of hide-and-seek turns to terror. (The House At The Front) *** In the Outback of Queensland, Australia, ghostly orbs of light have been frightening people for centuries. What do we know about the mystery of the orbs and what are some of the theories about what they could be? (The Min Min Orbs) *** Are extraterrestrials secretly watching over us and saving us from our own destruction? (Our Alien Protectors) *** When Jeffrey Dampier won the lottery, he thought he finally had it all. Little did he know that someone was about to take everything from him. (No Good Deed Goes Unpunished) *** They found Annie stretched out on the floor with a pistol lying by her hand. There was no sign of a struggle and nothing had been taken; they could only conclude that Annie had taken her own life. But is that really what happened? (The Annie Dorman Mystery) *** When you think of seeing a ghost, you almost automatically envision an ethereal being, in flowing white – like that of a woman in a wedding dress. And that might make sense, seeing as there are a lot of dead brides-to-be floating around America. (Til Death: Ghost Brides of the United States) *** You've seen them on the outside of large gothic buildings and massive churches. Their stone faces and menacing presence can be unsettling to some. But what are the purpose of gargoyles? (In The Protection of Gargoyles) *** Were Betty and Barney Hill actually visited and even abducted by aliens in 1961, or was it an outlandish story just to get attention? (The Betty and Barney Hill Abduction) *** The village of Trasmoz in Spain is said to be cursed by witches. Could there be a truth in the lore? Episode 370: In this episode, we journey into the chilling case of Jesse Imeson—a man whose troubled past and violent crimes left a deep scar on Southwestern Ontario. In the summer of 2007, Imeson's name became synonymous with fear as he embarked on a deadly spree, taking three innocent lives. The victims were Carlos Rivera, 25, of Windsor and Helene Regier, 72, and her husband, Bill Regier, 73, near the community of Grand Bend. The discovery of the murders sparked a 12-day nationwide manhunt and led to the capture of the killer in Portage-du-Forte, Quebec, near the Ontario border. However, behind the headlines lies a story of trauma, addiction, and claims of childhood abuse that may have shaped the path to his horrific acts. Karen Read Trial Day 29 Recap Dog - Bite Expert BLOCKED Killing Alternative Murder Theory Day 29 of the Karen Read murder retrial delivered explosive courtroom drama as the defense's case appears to be unraveling before our eyes. In this comprehensive breakdown, we analyze the shocking mistrial motion, expert testimony failures, and judicial frustration that could seal Read's fate in the death of Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe. The defense's accident reconstruction expert Daniel Wolfe faced devastating cross-examination that exposed fundamental flaws in their testing methodology. Prosecutor Hank Brennan systematically dismantled the defense's physics calculations, revealing they used a test dummy arm weighing 21% less than O'Keefe's actual arm weight. This isn't just a minor detail - in forensic accident reconstruction, mass directly affects kinetic energy calculations and impact force analysis. But the real bombshell came when defense attorney Robert Alessi demanded an immediate mistrial after discovering that holes in O'Keefe's hoodie were created by state crime lab testing, not the actual incident. While the prosecution admitted their error, Judge Beverly Cannone denied the mistrial motion, dealing another blow to the defense strategy. Perhaps most damaging was the court's limitation of forensic pathologist Dr. Elizabeth Laposata's testimony. Judge Cannone ruled she was not qualified to testify about dog bite patterns, effectively gutting the defense's alternative theory that O'Keefe was killed by a dog attack inside the Albert house rather than struck by Read's vehicle. New defense investigator John Tedeman provided distance measurements that actually hurt their case, confirming the body would have needed to be moved over 80 feet in a blizzard - a logistically impossible scenario without multiple conspirators and specialized equipment. The prosecution has lined up powerful rebuttal witnesses, including UC Davis forensic scientist Teri Kun and canine aggression expert James Crosby, signaling they're prepared to systematically destroy the defense's remaining theories. With the defense expected to rest Tuesday, this murder trial is rapidly approaching its conclusion. Karen Read faces charges of second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident in O'Keefe's January 2022 death. The case has captivated true crime audiences nationwide with allegations of police corruption, cover-ups, and conspiracy theories that have divided public opinion. Judge Cannone's visible frustration with defense tactics and the jury's apparent fatigue suggest the trial's momentum has shifted decisively toward the prosecution. Legal experts are now questioning whether the defense can recover from today's devastating setbacks. #KarenRead #KarenReadTrial #JohnOKeefe #TrueCrime #MurderTrial #BostonPolice #CourtTV #ForensicEvidence #JusticeForJohnOKeefe #BreakingNews Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? In the wake of Donald Trump and Elon Musk's public feud, Immaculate Constellation whistleblower Matthew Brown posted a very odd tweet, addressed to Elon. In it, he claims that Elon was lied to about the White House having a future-predicting AI, implies that Sam Altman created (and then murdered) a sentient AI, that the DOE is concealing advanced propulsion technology gained from reverse-engineering recovered nonhuman craft, and included occult symbolism. Let's talk about what it all means. You can find show notes and references at our website, VeryExcitingTime.com, or support us at patreon.com/VeryExcitingTime.

John expresses caution about predicting the downfall of dictators, citing his past experiences with Mugabe,Putin's Downfall and Ukraine's WarJohn and Nick discuss the current situation in Russia and Ukraine, focusing on Vladimir Putin's leadership and the potential for his overthrow. Sweeney shares Owen's argument that there are 3 tests before Putin's downfall: the lack of a viable successor, a crashing economy, and a competent government.Putin's Influence on Trump John also talks about the potential influence of Putin on Trump, referencing the Steele dossier (written by former Mi6 officer Christopher Steele.) They agree that while the dossier's claims about Trump's personal behaviour could not be proven, the allegations about Putin's intervention in the 2016 US election were accurate. John highlights the importance of understanding the geopolitical implications of Ukraine's drone attack on Russia, emphasising the need for a realistic approach to global politics.Trump's Waning Influence and ChallengesJohn talks about the complex relationship between Trump and Putin, highlighting a potential compromise involving Trump's authoritarian leanings and shared worldview with Putin, despite effective sanctions against Russia that only Congress can repeal.
