Just two moms of boys who love their kids, love being moms, but know that it's not all rainbows and sunshine....sometimes it's swear words and slamming doors.
What would you do if you lost your phone? Like really lost it. Not just you thought you did, but then found it under the couch. Do you have all your things backed up? Do you have securities in place like lock screen passwords and no incriminating photos? Well, I lost mine in a busy area of Toronto and although I didn't cry, I definitely went through some phases of grief. Luckily some things had backed up, but my photos did not. So if you're not sure if things are saving in the background, check! Write in to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com and let us know your lost phone moments.
Today we talk about the long weekend and what we do to enjoy long weekends, the craziness that is emergency waits (why are they so long?), and my lost contact that turned into an eye infection. How do you spend long weekends? Have you ever had a lost contact? Have you ever slept in your contacts? Write in with your parenting shennanigans to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Another Mother's Day has come and gone. If you celebrated, what did you do? Did you get treated to a nice brunch? Did you get left alone for the day? Did you drink all the mimosas? Whatever you did, we hope it was enjoyable. We also discuss the universal reaction to Taco Bell...but for some reason we all still love it! Also, it's totally acceptable to pack 3 dresses, a pair of pants, two sweaters, a bathing suit, and several t-shirts for just a weekend away. Who knows what you're going to want to wear?! What are your thoughts on Taco Bell? What's your go to fast food? What's your packing style? Write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
We're back! We took a bit of a break so today's episode is a bit of a catch up. You know when you and your bestie haven't seen each other in a few weeks and you have tons of tea to spill? Well, that's what today's episode is. We kind of jam in a bunch of stuff...a trip to Sweden, thoughts on the musical RENT, going to a drag brunch, and selfies with the one and only Paris Hilton! Email us with your parenting stories at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Nothing says "I'm a grown adulthood" like a Costco card. Whether you have 3 kids, no kids, or a fur baby, having that membership means you can buy all the bulk chocolate bars and gigantic muffins you want! We also discuss the recent rising of our body temps which makes daily life so much more fun in the warmer months. I also share the reason why my husband and I still cram ourselves into a double bed even though we're grown ass adults. What are your favourite Costco buys, what do you refuse to spend money on even though you probably should? Write in with your parenting thoughts, stories, and advice to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Do you like buffets? What kind of buffets do you prefer? I love a good brunch buffet and I absolutely eat my money's worth! We also discuss fried plantains...it's now my mission to find some in Niagara, and the wonder of travel. Where have you been with your kids? What's a food that people tell you you have to try? Write to use at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Today we talk about tomato soup and having a cold, the Welcome to Chippendale's mini series on Disney+, and what we think of destination weddings. Do you like going to a resort for someone's wedding? What are your thoughts on male dancers? Do you say "foy-errrr" or "foy-eh"? Write in with your thoughts on parenting or these questions to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Today we talk about the greatness that is bacon, the trashiness that is MILF Manor on TLC (don't worry, it's not a recap, just our thoughts), and learning to embroider. What trashy TV are you glued to right now? What hobbies do you enjoy that your friends roll their eyes at? Do you prefer strips of bacon or peameal bacon...aka, Canadian bacon? Send in your parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Today we talk about learning to adjust as an adult...and a mom...when you start a new job. You may have a fresh start with fun new challenges, but you may also have to figure out a new routine. We also discuss some great books we're currently reading and the fun that is buying a new mop...because that's how old we are. Write in with your parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com!
Today we chat about our holidays and just generally catch up with each other. It's like we met up for a quick coffee date. We also have a special guest that joined in for a quick hello. Welcome to 2023, we hope this year brings some fun things for all. Write in with your new year's resolutions, parenting goals, or any other coffee talk type things, to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
If you want to hear some holiday talk, 90 Day Fiancé chatter, and our thoughts on the Meghan and Harry Netflix docuseries, then this episode is for you! We give our takes on a little of all of those in this last episode of the year. We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season! We'll be back in the new year. Write in with your parenting tales to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Yup, 'tis the season for holiday fueled everything. Today we continue with even more Christmas talk. Is it too early to be done shopping and wrapping? Do you prefer to meticulously put lights on the tree, or prefer the easy peasy pre-lit tree life? How ready are you for the upcoming holiday season? Well, ready or not, here it comes! Write in with your holiday parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Is your tree up already? Is your car/house/office/morning playlist filled with holiday tunes? Are you wandering through the stores with a list of people to buy for? Or are staying chill until mid December with all the festive nonsense? Whether you decorate the day after Halloween, or you have little interest in being holly jolly, the holiday season is upon us. When do you start your holiday prep? No matter how much you try to escape it, the holiday warm and fuzzies are here! Write in with some parent wins, fails, and holiday stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Do your kids hate wearing coats to school? Do they loathe trying on last year's snow pants to see if they still fit? How many cozy sweaters in your closet is too much? The answer to that one is, the limit does not exist. If you live in any kind of northern region, you're probably noticing the days cooling off, maybe some frost on your car in the morning, and the resurgence of gloves. Write in with your fall wardrobe staples or tales of getting ready horror stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
You'd think by now we'd have nothing left to talk about with Halloween...well apparently that's not true. Thanks to these new and improved shorter episodes, we have enough chit chat to fill time! What kind of Halloween shenanigans are you getting up this year? What's your favourite candy to swipe from your offspring's trick or treat bag? Do you like candy corn? We hope you all have a super fun and safe Halloween! Write in with your parenting wins, fails, or just stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com
The air is crisp, the cozy sweaters have made an appearance, and maybe you've even tuned the heat on in your car in the morning...IT'S FALL! With this time year also comes family trips to pumpkin patches and apple orchards. Today we talk about this phenomenon to get the kiddos dressed up and drive out to the local farm to to partake in corn mazes and hay rides. Is this a year tradition for you? How long did you continue before it lost it's magic? Tell us your fall family fun days by writing to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
OMG, we were gone for soooo long guys! We both needed a break and we took a longer break than we were hoping, but it was well deserved. We're back and we're excited to bring you all some fun new episodes. We'll be releasing episodes every other week now instead of weekly, and I'll be posting on Wednesday instead of Sundays...just trying to shake things up, I'm such a rebel. Any way, I hope you're all excited to hear our voices in your ears once again! Don't forget you can write to us anytime via email at momvoicepod@gmail.com. We'd love to hear your parenting stories...maybe we'll even share some.
First, after this episode we will be on a bit of a summer break. It won't be super long, I will be back sooner, probably with Kevan because we live in the same house and it's easier, and Elvina will be back a few weeks later. So if you notice some quiet, don't worry, we all need a breather once in awhile. Now, the episode! Stress. We all experience it, we have ways we deal with it, but what about kids? What stresses our kids out? How do they cope? How can we help them? Whether it's school, friends, or events that are happening in the world, we have to remember kids experience the same things we do...they just might not know how to cope. We have to help them understand that being overwhelmed is ok, and there are ways to deal with these feelings. Make sure they feel safe and talk to them about how they are feeling. Our mom this week is JUDY GELLER from Friends! Find us on the socials and write in with your parenting story to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Do your kids feel strongly about things? Are they itching to go to a march for a cause? Or maybe they're like mine and they just care about what Pokémon card they traded with their friends that day. Sometimes the small things you do for your community get overlooked, but really you're thinking locally instead of trying to make big global impacts. Whatever you do to help your kids become more aware of the world around them and how create change, make sure you do it at a level you can also participate in. Let us know what causes and movements you're involved with and how you involve your offsprings. Find us on Instagram and Facebook, or write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is the the awesomely outrageous, LINDA BELCHER.
Today we discuss the decline in Home Economic type classes in schools, and the benefit they have on our kids. I'm sure some form of life skills are taught, but from what we can tell, these classes aren't offered as often any more. Why not? Unless we're taking the time to teach our kids how to cook, change tires, balance a budget, and just basic life skills at home, school is the next best place. As we discuss in the episode, make it a compulsory class for everyone to take and make it well rounded for everyone to enjoy it. When we think "Home Ec." our minds go to a room full of girls learning to cook muffins while mending aprons, but it doesn't have to be like that. If your school still offers these classes, that's awesome, if it doesn't, what are your thoughts? Would your child benefit from a life skills type class...maybe call it somethings like "Life Skills Sciences" to make it more generic. Let us know what you think and if you had classes like this in school. Find us on Facebook and Instagram, or email us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is the amazing CINDY WALSH from the iconic 90s teen drama, Beverly Hills 90210.
It's 1990 something, you're home sick from school, Bob Barker has just told someone to "come on down!", and you're on the couch hoping they play the Mountain Climber game. I know Plinko was always the fan favourite, but not me, maybe Price is Right is partly where my anxiety comes from. How do you handle illness like colds and flu with your kids? What do sick days look like for them? Do you go into parental panic mode, or do you simply tell them to suck it up and at least try to make it through the day? Sick days happen, and as parents we all react differently. Let us know if you go directly to the doctor's office, or maybe you throw on Netflix and take the day off work (or work from home if the option exists). Post in our Facebook group or on our Instagram, or email us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is FRIGGA, Thor and Loki's mom.
Are you ready? Ready for the day your offspring comes to you and says they have a boyfriend or girlfriend? Are you ready for all the emotions that will come along with that? Well, we're not. Eventually it's going to happen though. They're going to fall for someone, they're going to have their hearts broken, and they'll do it all over again. All we can do is give them the tools they need to navigate this crazy little thing called love and dating. What are your dating stories? Are your kids already on the scene? How are you dealing with it? Let us know on the socials or write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is SHIRLEY BENNETT from the show Community.
Were you ever told, "if *insert friend's name here* jumped off a bridge, would you do the same thing"? Did you ever do said thing just to fit in with the 'cool kids'? Peer pressure is something that kids deal with (and even adults) and as parents we need to talk to our kids about the choices they'll make when their friends want them to do something. What kind of pressures did your friends put you under? Are you like me and you still think the main peer pressure is to smoke? I'm so out of touch with kids these days. Tell us how you talk to your kids about peer pressure and what pressures they face that we didn't. Our mom shout out this week goes to MICHONNE from The Walking Dead. Connect with us on the socials or write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Can you believe it? We got to 100 episodes! This has been such a fun experience and I'm so happy with the conversations I've had. For this episode it's kind of just random conversation. Elvina and I discuss MLMs, subscription boxes, and just general chit chat...yup, it's one of those tangent talk situations. No mom this week, we just wanted to embrace the journey so far. We hope you all have enjoyed the mom talk and maybe have been able to relate to some of the topics. Don't forget, you can get in touch with us on Facebook and Instagram, or write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Thanks for listening!
First off, there is no 90 Day recap in today's episode, it's just us talking about mom stuff. Today we discuss the concept of helicopter parenting. We both agree we have traits, but we're not full blown helicopter parents. Do you consider yourself a helicopter parent? Do you keep your kids on a short leash or are always up their business? There are pros and cons to this style of parenting, and we discuss some and relate to a few as well. Find us on the socials and give us your thoughts. You can also write in to us with your parenting wins and fails at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom shout out this week is NANI from Lilo and Stitch. Enjoy!
First, I know you are all probably so over our 90 Day Fiancé talk, but just skip ahead 15ish minutes. We just really like to talk about it! Gender reveal parties had their time in the sun, but they are now seen as out of touch with modern views of gender. We all know gender is fluid and has nothing to do with the biological sex we were assigned at birth. Maybe we should be having these parties when a person is older and knows who they truly are inside. So why do we still have these parties? Did you have a gender reveal party? Have you been to one? What are your thoughts? Share with us what you think of these parties on our socials or write in to momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is the misunderstood DELIA DEETZ from the movie Beetlejuice. Enjoy!
When our kiddos are small, they love us and want to follow us everywhere we go....so annoying. As they grow, that desire starts to fade and our adorable little shadows start to take on a life of their own. It's important to stay connected to our kids so they know we'll always be there for them, and us as parents know they're in a good place. We don't have to be best friends with them, but maybe a one on one date occasionally. How do you stay connected with your kids? How can parents maintain a connection with their offspring? Post on our socials or write in with your parenting stories, questions, or thoughts on the episode to momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is DAENERYS TARGARYEN..I know I say A LOT of the words wrong. Enjoy!
In my notes I had this episode titled "Natural Births" and C-Section Births. Then I realized, what makes the birth more natural? Just because the baby came out of your vajajay? Mine still exited my body, I just required assistance. Also, why is there a stigma over c-section births? Why do people think they're the "easy way"? As you'll find out from our discussion, whether your offspring enters the world through the birth canal or you undergo surgery, there's swearing, pain, after care, and all the hormones....it's never easy. No matter what your birth plan is, you have to be prepared for anything. If you have a child, what was your birth story? Why do you think there's judgement towards c-sections? Did you experience any difficulties either during or after? Let us know your experiences on our socials or write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Our mom this week is RAINBOW JOHNSON from the show, Black-ish.
To post or not post, sometimes that is the parent dilemma when it comes to our child's image and putting it on the various social media platforms. You might ask yourself, do I want the world to know what they look like? Do I dare put up that video of the ridiculous tantrum they had? Should I share their full name, or just use initials? All these things are just another reason why parenting in the now days is so much more harder than when our parents were doing it. As always, as a parent the choice to share or not share is yours. If I want to put up a picture of my son crying because I made chili for dinner (true story), then yea, I'm gonna do it, because it's silly. Don't want everyone to know your offspring's name? That's cool too. What are your thoughts? Do you post all the things or are you more private? Do you cringe when other people put up their kid's photo, birthday, name, school, and address? Share your thoughts on our socials and don't forget you can always write in at momvoicepod@gmail.com! Our mom today is JESSICA HUANG from the show Fresh off the Boat. Enjoy!
We all know by now what a 'hack' is. We've seen them on the social medias, we read about them in online articles, and we probably use many in our everyday life. Basically hacks are ways to do things that make your life easier. Whether you use baskets to organize your family's items, or maybe you have cut up pool noodles every where for various purposes (apparently they can be used for so many things other than lounging in the water). Today we discuss some of the things we do to make life easier as well as the ones we found on the interwebs. What are some of your favourite parenting hacks? What have you tried that just didn't work? Our mom this week is LOIS from the show Malcolm in the Middle. Find us on the socials and share the ways you keep parenting life easy. You can also email us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
If you like 90 Day Fiancé and you like parenting talk, then this episode is your jam. If you're here for the parenting tattoo discussion, maybe skip ahead about 20min...because we unintentionally discuss 90DF a bit longer than we thought. But we do discuss our thoughts on getting inked. Do we have tattoos, what would we do if our kids wanted them, and just some general thoughts on them. What do you think of tattoos? Do you have them? Would you get one? What would you get? Would you be ok with your kid wanting when when they are old enough? Our mom today is MRS. GUMP from the movie Forrest Gump. Give us your Tattoo opinions in the Facebook group or on Instagram, or write in to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
You know it, you love it (at least I think you do), it's everyone's favourite....TANGENT TALK! These are the episodes that have no rhyme or reason, they have twists and turns, and maybe you laugh once or twice. We mostly get hung up on things we hate but everyone else loves....like cheesecake and pizza (you'll have to listen to find out who hates what). What do you hate that everyone around you seems to love? What topics would you like to hear us tangent off of in future episodes? Our mom this week is JOYCE BYERS from the show Stranger Things. Find us on the socials and email us your parenting stories at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
Sandy did it in Grease (kind of), Vada took the plunge in My Girl 2 (even though Nick was totally against the custom), and Stephanie Tanner was desperate to get it done and be cool (she did up with a nasty infection though). What am I talking about? Ear piercing of course! For whatever reason we feel the need to poke holes in our ear lobes and adorn them with glittery items. There are differing opinions on what age is appropriate, whether it should be done at the mall or a tattoo parlor, and even how many is too many. Only you know what's best for your kid when they come to you with a piercing request. Just make sure they don't get it done in a friend's basement with an ice cube and a safety pin. That won't end well. Our mom today is LYNN SEAR from The Sixth Sense. Find us on the socials and write in with your parenting story to momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Saved by the Bell and Full House, Dawson's Creek and Gilmore Girls, even MTV/Much Music, it's no surprise TV has had a huge influence on the lives of adults in our generation. Our intent was to discuss parenting and the influence TV has on our kids, but I think we ended up going down more memory lane tangents of our own television history...as it sometimes happens. What are your thoughts on kids watching TV? Do you put time limits on their viewing? Are there certain hours of the day they can watch? What was your relationship with TV as a kid? What are/were your fave shows? Our mom this week is the amazing QUEEN RAMONDA from the movie Black Panther. Follow us on the socials and write in with your parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
Until recently I had no idea what a love language was. I thought saying mushy words or hugging and kissing were the only ways people showed their adoration for each other. Well, I was wrong and I now understand the different ways we prefer to show as well as receive love. I try to be more mindful of what my husband and kids need to feel special, and I'm working on the hug thing...I'm just not a hugging kind of gal. What are your love languages? Are you aware of the ways your kids, partner, friends prefer to be loved? Our mom this week is the hip and cool REBECCA DONALDSON KATSOPOLIS (aka Aunt Becky) from one of my all time fave 90s shows, Full House. We hope you all have a lovely Valentine's day xoxo! Find us on the socials and write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Alright mom voice fans, buckle up. I give some opinions in this episode that are probably not very popular and many of you are screaming at me. You know what though, that's what podcasts are about, expressing opinions and having people who are listening in their cars/office/home/etc. scream at their devices because they don't agree. Today we discuss kid fashion and some of the controversies that go along with that. From our own fashion choices in the 80s and 90s, to gender specific sections in stores, and then everyone's favourite...school dress codes. What are your thoughts on the topic? Are you for or against uniforms in all schools to create an equal playing field? I usually try to stay neutral and not step on toes...I just want everyone to be happy and have fun...but I may have opened a can of worms with this topic. Our mom this week is JANE VILLANUEVA from the show, Jane the Virgin. Write in to us with your thoughts at momvoicepod@gmail.com or find us on the socials. We hope you enjoy! :-)
Do you live in the northern region of the world? Do you look out your window in the colder months and see snow at least once? If so, you probably have a first hand understand about the love/hate relationship of snow days and just days that are cold and you don't want to go out. I am all about sending the kids out with their mittens, hats, and snowsuits, but I am happy to stay inside drinking a cup of tea. We both agree that we just aren't the kind of moms that like to play, and that includes in the snow. How do you approach this snowy time of year? Do you get obscene amounts of the stuff, or is it more of a light dusty and a novelty? What do you love or hate about it? Our mom this week is DIDI PICKLES from the classic 90s cartoon, Rugrats. Find us on the socials and send in your parenting stories at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy! :-)
According to the obscene amount of movies I have watched over the years, there's one thing women (99% of the time it's women) fear the most. It's not starting a new job, it's not living on her own, it's not even having a kid...although that usually sparks some slight fear...nope, it's turning the big 4-0! But why? I'm not sure why being 40 is such a death sentence. Maybe back in our parent's days it was stressful because it meant you all of a sudden had to shop at the "frumpy dress and shoulder pad" store, but now you can still be hip and with it. Women today can be 40 and still do things they did in their 20s...but maybe some things should be left in that decade. How do you feel about this milestone? If you're already there, how do you feel now that you've reached it? Turning 40 is fabulous! Embrace it. Our mom this week is MARIA VON TRAPP from The Sound of Music. Find us on the socials and don't forget to write to us with your parenting wins and losses at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
I happens to all of us. You spend two weeks of sleeping in, eating fast food or the remnants of cheese and cracker plates, and constantly asking "what day is it again?"and now that decorations are put away, you're getting ready to step back into the office. For some, routine is easy to slide back into, for others it's a struggle. How do you get back into the swing of things after the lazy days of the holidays? Do you find it hard, or do you stick with your routine even when you're not at work? How do you get your kids back to their good habits? Today we ease into the new year with how we embrace our routines after being out of them for a bit. Our mom this week is DEBBIE from the movie This is 40. Don't forget you can find and interact with us on the socials, and you can write in with your parenting stories to momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
Just like last week, this episode is a quick shout out to all our listeners. We wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and we hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. You'll notice it's another rough cut, no edits, no bells and whistles, just us saying hey. We'll be back next week with a brand new full episode. I hope you're all full of appetizers and cheese...because that's all I seem to eat during this time of year. Thanks for all of those who listened during 2021, I hope you stick around to see what 2022 has in store! A big mom voice welcome to everyone just discovering us, we hope you like what you hear.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I probably could have posted this on the 25th, but I'm a creature of habit and Sundays are episode release days. This is just a quick episode to say Merry Christmas to our listeners. I didn't edit it, so if it's rough, that's why. We hope everyone has been enjoying time with their loved ones and you're all staying safe and healthy. Have a holly jolly one!
Guess what, guess what?! Elvina is back...yay! Today we talk about our gift giving routines. What we buy for the kids, how we give to friends, and even our charitable giving. Neither of us buy (haha...buy) into the concept of the "must have toy" and we try to keep things from getting out of hand. I'll tell you right now, Santa does not get credit for the good or expensive stuff! What does your gift giving look like? Do you enjoy coming up with the perfect gift? Or do you prefer to grab a gift card and call it a day? Our mom this week is GINNIE GRAINGER from the 80s Christmas classic, One Magic Christmas. Write in with your favourite Christmas memories...past or present...or any parenting story you want to share to @momvoicepod@gmail.com. Don't forget you can also find us on Facebook and Instagram! Enjoy :-).
Hey Mom Voice fans! Since we're in the final week of me down a co-host, and I didn't plan out an episode or have a guest host, I decided to give you a taste of my other podcast...It Happened to a Friend of a Friend. I think I've mentioned it before. We talk all things creepy, weird, and true crime. On our most recent episode we discuss where our Christmas traditions possibly originated from, eggnog fun facts, and the tragic case of Laci Peterson. The subject matter may not be for everyone, Laci Peterson is a sad story, but there is some good stuff. Give it a whirl, and if you like what you hear, check out our other episodes! You can email either podcast at momvoicepod@gmail.com or ithappenedtopod@gmail.com. Tell us your parenting stories or send in your creepy tales!
If it weren't the month of all that is holly jolly, I probably would have taken a break while Elvina is away....but we all know I can't. Besides it's the kick off to our second year of CHRISTMAS ELEGANZA EXTRAVAGANZA! The episode is a little on the short side, but I have a very special guest....my youngest offspring, NIK. I figured who better than an 8 year old to talk Christmas (Lukkas didn't want to join, he's too cool for podcasts I guess). Our mom was picked by Nikolaas, with absolutely zero help. Shout out to AUNT MAY from Spiderman! We hope you enjoy the start of merry month! Find us on the socials and don't forget you can write to us at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Send us your parenting stories and Christmas traditions. Do you have an elf? Are you sick of it? Do you wish you never started it? We might even read your letters on the pod. Enjoy :-).
Every once in awhile we take off our mom hats and discuss something that has nothing to do with parenting...or at least we purposely don't make it about parenting. This is just such an episode. Although our shopping experience started out different, we seem to have a similar love of it now. We like buying clothes, can spend hours scouring the racks for the perfect buys, and occasionally sneak bags into the house and shove them into closets. Yup, we're talking shopping today! Retail therapy is cheaper than real therapy...but there's probably a reason we shop and maybe we should actually go to therapy, that's another episode though. Our mom this week is JENNY MACARTHUR from the the show The League! Find us on the socials and write in with your parenting stories, momvoicepod@gmail.com (maybe we'll read some)! Enjoy :-).
Do you keep violent video games out of the house? Is swearing a mother forking no-no? Are some shows off limits to the littles in your house? Some of us censor what our kids are exposed to a lot more than others. I probably shouldn't listen to my true crime podcasts in the car when my kids are riding with me...but I do. What were you forbidden to listen to/watch/or maybe read as a kid? Do you think we censor too much of our child's lives? Today we discuss all these things and more. Our mom of the week is OLIVIA BENSON from SVU! Find us on the socials and don't forget you can write in with your parenting story at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy!
Going through those awkward pre-teen and teenage years is rough! As parents we have to remember it's not easy and to have patience as our kids navigate these crazy years. It's not just the bodily changes, it's the figuring out who they are and where they belong. What are some changes you've noticed in your own pre-teens? What are some awkward stages you went through during these times? Today we go off on a few tangents, but we try to talk our way through the upcoming...and current...puberty stages of our kids. Our mom this week is the sassy HARRIET WINSLOW of Family Matters. Find us on the socials and write in with your parenting success and hiccups at momvoicepod@gmail.com. Enjoy! :-)
Sure, we're moms, we love our kids, but does mean we should be considered the primary caregiver? What makes a parent worthy of the title? Why, even in today's modern society, are dads often not seen as the primary caregiver of their children? Back in the day when the mom stayed home and dad went to work, sure, it made sense that she would take on that role. However, in 2021, I think there are so many different family situations where that just isn't the case. Our mom shout out this week goes to HELEN MORGENDORFFER from the amazing 90s cartoon, Daria. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! It's day of all things spooky, but we're still just talking parenting...maybe for some that's spooky. Books are great resources for a lot of things and can be great ways to get information, but sometimes you have to live the experience to really know what's happening. Pregnancy is one of those times. You can read all the books you want, but until you're smack in the middle of morning sickness, cravings, and trying to figure out a birth plan, you never really know what it'll be like. There are also many things the books just don't tell us. Like how little sleep you'll get because you just can't get comfortable, how your boobs are going to get super hard when you stop/don't/or haven't breastfed in awhile. How you have to be adaptable when the baby comes because your birth plan (if you have one) may not be doable. Today we share some things we had to learn without a book. Did you read the pregnancy books? What are some things that you were unprepared for? Our mom this week is CHRIS MACNEIL from the Exorcist. We hope you enjoy! Please and thank you, excuse me, sorry, all words that are important for kids to know and use everyday. However, I also understand that sometimes the word 'sorry' can get over used and lose all meaning...at least in my house that's the case. Nik stuffs his sorries in a sack. What manners are important to teach our kids? Was politeness important in your house growing up, and have you carried that to your own parenting expectations? At the risk of sounding old, do you think kids today use manners as much as previous generations? For our thoughts on these questions and more, listen to the episode! Please and thank you :-). Our mom this week is, well, more of a dad, it's AKELA THE WOLF from The Jungle Book. We hope you enjoy! Find us on the socials and email us your parenting shenanigans at momvoicepod@gmail.com.
Do you remember walking home from school when you were maybe 12ish years old? You unlocked the door with your very own house key, threw your backpack in the hall, grabbed some snacks, and went right for the TV. The best part...you were solo (or maybe in the company of a sibling or two) because your parent(s) or guardian(s) were at work till dinner time. If this sounds familiar, you were a latchkey kid. What was your go to after school activity? Did you get started on homework, or did you buckle in for a few episodes of Saved by the Bell? Did you fight with your siblings or were you perfect angels? As a parent now, would you let your kids come home solo until you got home from work? Today we talk about our latchkey experiences and our thoughts on leaving our kids to fend for themselves after school. Our mom this week is the lovely PEG BOGGS from Edward Scissorhands.
