Our guest today is an expert in many things but "what to do when things don't go according to plan" in her personal and professional lives is what has driven her to amazing heights including climbing to the top of Mount Fuji!! . International Keynote Speaker, Mountain Climber and Best-Selling Author Dima Ghawi has 20+ years experience as a global leader working for Fortune 100 companies like IBM, Merrill Lynch and Intuit and another decade advising organizations and leaders to create courageous and inclusive work cultures. Her book is entitled 'Breaking Vases: Shattering Limitations and Daring to Thrive.' But it's the strength and resiliency she's shown in breaking free from years of cultural norms as a young girl growing up in Jordan that really show who she is, and the inspiration she offers. Dima's story began with an arranged marriage at the age of 19 in Jordan, which led to a challenging period of her life marked by deep depression and isolation. However, she found the courage to break free and pursue an MBA in San Diego, leading her to join IBM's leadership development program. KEY TAKEAWAYS: Leadership Lessons from Mount Fuji: The podcast highlights a story about a team-building exercise on Mount Fuji, emphasizing that true leaders support their team rather than racing to the top alone. Overcoming Cultural Barriers: Dima Ghawi shares her experience as a Middle Eastern woman navigating cultural differences in the U.S. Dealing with Workplace Jerks: The podcast discusses strategies for handling difficult colleagues. Breaking Free from Limitations: Dima Ghawi's journey from an arranged marriage to becoming a successful leader illustrates the power of self-reflection and education in overcoming personal and professional limitations. The Misfit Advantage: Embracing one's differences can be a powerful tool in the workplace. "A leader is a person who helps the team get to the top step by step. Sometimes we're pushing the team forward. Sometimes we're walking to their side, but not the one who leaves the team behind just to get to the top first." - Dima Ghawi #leadership #culturaldifferences #workplaceculture #careers #HR #Jordan #professionaldevelopment CONNECT WITH DIMA GHAWI https://www.linkedin.com/in/dimaghawi/ https://www.facebook.com/people/Dima-Ghawi-%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%85%D8%A7-%D8%BA%D8%A7%D9%88%D9%8A/100050491089661/ Connect with Manage Smarter Hosts · Website: ManageSmarter.com · LinkedIn: Audrey Strong · LinkedIn: C. Morgan sings a lovely from her alluring album the cover of which you can see posted next to our show this week-Vah Vah Vah Voom, David Allyn a singer new to Sounds Like Radio but not to our library sings a ditty you may be familiar with, and the wonderful Helen O'Connell is in the mood to slow it down in her musical selection. Welcome to Episode 89 of the Eat for Endurance Podcast, featuring Alyssa Leib, MS RD of Peak to Peak Nutrition. Today, we're chatting about sports nutrition for mountain athletes, with a spotlight on climbers. Alyssa is herself a trail runner and climber, and I had a ton of questions about climbing as it's most definitely not my sport, plus I'm always eager to learn from other sports RDs who specialize in different niches than mine. I thought it would be fun to chat about how nutrition for climbing compares to nutrition for other mountain sports including trail running and mountaineering because as you can imagine, the nutrition concepts are the same, but the logistics and practical considerations are VERY different. I also find it really fascinating to learn about how sporting cultures compare and contrast, especially when it comes to fueling. We discuss this in detail, and it should come as no surprise that one of the main issues we see among endurance athletes - chronic underfueling - is a major problem in the climbing world too. Even though we spend a good chunk of the episode chatting about nutrition strategies for climbing specifically, most of our discussion is relevant to all mountain athletes. Alyssa also answers one of my burning questions that I'm SURE you all want to know too - what do climbers do if they have to go to the bathroom?! Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy the episode!Links & Announcements:Follow Alyssa on InstagramWatch this episode on my YouTube page Purchase my NEW Peak Performance courseCheck out my other free and for-purchase offeringsSign up for my email list to download my FREE Fueling Before Exercise Guide and to receive my monthly newsletterFill out a new client inquiry form if you're interested in 1:1 nutrition coachingJoin my Patreon community to support the pod while getting free merch, special discounts, and other perksPlease subscribe or follow the show and rate/review it wherever you listenGet in touch at claire@eatforendurance.com.Music Credit: Joseph McDadeDisclaimer – all information provided is for educational and entertainment purposes only and is in no way meant to replace individual medical and nutrition recommendationsSupport the Show. Thanks for listening! A car accident in 2018 left Jenn Drummond awestruck and emboldened. Rescue workers couldn't imagine any scenario where she came out of it alive, but she did. That's when she realized you don't get to choose when you leave this life…but you sure can choose how you live it. Strengthened by this awareness, she set out to live in a more authentic and adventurous way. Inspired to climb a mountain for her birthday, her son raised the stakes by suggesting Mount Everest. Not one to back down from a challenge, she accepted the pursuit. During her training, her coach upped the ante and proposed that she go for a Guinness World Record and become the first woman to climb the 7 second summits. The pursuit matched her desire to live a life of significance, not just success. Today, Jenn is a world record holder who elevates others to master their own summit in life. She's a successful business owner and Mom of 7 remarkable kids who, as you have heard, boldly inspire and brazenly challenge her. She's also an international speaker, an author, and Host of the Seek Your Next Summit podcast, who's focused on inspiring others to go beyond success to a life of significance.

It seems blind good luck is what's kept a pair of hapless mountain climbers alive. And it's prompted a strong warning from police. Another climbing party stumbled across the pair dressed in street clothes including jeans and hoodies near the summit of Mount Ngauruhoe on Saturday night, as bad weather was closing in. They had no idea how to get off the mountain, sparking a helicopter rescue. Despite being a self confessed non-athlete and scientist - Paul Watkins has managed to compete in and win some of the worlds toughest races, as well as build multi-million dollar businesses - in multiple fields.Paul has climbed some of the toughest and most iconic mountains across all seven continents. He has climbed, trekked and adventured in Tanzania, Argentina, Alaska, the Arctic, Antarctica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Jordan and Nepal to name a few. He has also managed to race in some of Australia and the world's toughest ultra-marathons - including being one of only eight people in the world (and the first Australian) to finish and win the 614km 6633 Arctic Ultra. His training for these expeditions led him to becoming a Nationally certified weightlifting coach and an avid student of the nuanced art of endurance training. In the business world, armed with little more than a Pharmacy degree, Paul became a business owner, starting small and eventually building and running a multiple site pharmacy business with over 60 employees and over $15m in turnover. He went on to complete his MBA through the Melbourne Business School, left the pharmacy world and built (sometimes literally) a multi-million dollar property development portfolio. He is also a father to two young boys, a husband, a brother and a son - and still thinks of himself as a ‘nerd'.To learn more about Paul, visit:https://www.paulwatkins.com.au/To stay connected with Better Place Project and for updates and behind the scenes info, please follow us on social media:Website:https://www.betterplaceproject.org/ Instagram: @BetterPlaceProj To follow Steve on Instagram@SteveNorrisOfficialFacebook: Facebook.com/BetterPlaceProjectPodcastTwitter: @BetterPlaceProjEmail: ...
