The region is named after foot, “piè”, and mountain “monte” because the region is surrounded by the Alps. The region is very hilly with the Po River valley and home to some of the greatest wines in Italy. In our longest ep to date, we present "Natural Wines" There is a new word in wine to cover a new category in wine. Natural. To say this word is divisive is an understatement but it really is innocuous and just a marketing term to help these producers find a space in the wine world. And they are delicious but you have to try them for yourself since they aren't like what you normally drink. There is an equivalent to the pushback. It would be if the majority of restaurants were angry because another restaurant said they were Farm To Table. It is just a tagline to say we buy from local farmers. Same for “Natural” which means they add nothing to the wines they produce. They farm either organically or biodynamically and when they crush the grapes they add nothing at all. No cultured yeasts and no sulfites. They allow the wine to take its time to ferment and then they bottle. Pretty simple. Go find some Natural wine and try it. #ETDT #winelovers #naturalwines

Port (from Portugal) and Sherry (from SW Spain) are both Fortified Wines that I would guess a lot of listeners have never tried. We hope to fix that today because these wines have a place at our dinner tables and cocktail hours. To oversimplify the word “Fortified” means a "spirit” has been added to stop fermentation.
