This movie is not for all tastes, but it IS for Drusilla and Josh. It's Singapore Sling: The Man Who Loved a Corpse by Nikolai Nikolaides. From wiki: “Singapore Sling: The Man Who Loved a Corpse (Greek: Singapore Sling: Ο Άνθρωπος που Αγάπησε ένα Πτώμα, tr. Singapore Sling: O Ánthropos pou Agápise éna Ptóma) is a 1990 Greek black and white horror underground art film directed by Nikos Nikolaidis and regarded as his magnum opus. Considered a difficult film to label while still managing to develop something of a cult following throughout the years nonetheless, it was shot in a bizarre manner somewhat resembling film noir or neo-noir and black comedy as well as the exploitation, thriller, and crime genres mixed with some elements of eroticism and horror with sex being used as a power game and received a theatrical release in Greece on 6 December 1990.[1][2] “Drusilla saw Almodóvar's double feature of shorts, Strange Way of Life and The Human Voice. She also saw: Dicks! The Musical. Josh writes the Darren Criss Halloween Show at A.C.T. in San Francisco. He watched Tod Browning's Freaks. Also mentioned: Under the Rainbow (1981), Fassbinder, Blonde Venus, Story Pirates, Lair of the White Worm, Ticket of No Return, Onibaba, Grey Gardens, Jean Genet's The Maids, Dadaism, Otessa Moshfegh, Pasolini, David Lynch, Pink Flamingos, Angel, and more! This episode features our very first interview, ever! We talk to Devon Trevathan, co-founder of Liba Spirits, a nomadic spirits company that combines distilling and travel - seriously, this is cool. She is also a talented Sr. Writer for Artisan Spirit Magazine, a magazine for craft distillers and their fans. Of course we talk about the Singapore Sling and get into its history, but also topics such as distilling rum, vodka, and gin, the story behind Liba's 1643 Alpine Gin (which is amazing BTW), what to order in a dive bar, and many more topics. It's a fun conversation with a wise industry professional who is all about better drinkin'. You'll want to check this episode out, check Devon out, and check out Liba Spirits! See below for more information on all of that. On this "Bits and Pieces 2" episode, Micah and I present three recordings. The first is with Ryan of Flighty... a flight tracking application that offers so much more. The second interview is with Listener Matt of Singapore. We recorded two segments on my first of two back to back trips. We biked around the Island on his Bromptom bikes, Matt got to try some new beers, and we finally had a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel. (Hint: It was delicious and worth every penny... Matt paid for it! Thank you Matt!) The third recording is an interview I did this past February with Scott of Scott's Cheap Flights. Sadly, the web site statistics show that not many people went to the website to listen to the segment. Therefore, I decided to include it in this podcast so everyone could hear about their great service. There is no listener mail nor Listener Lu Wants To Know segments because this so episode is already so long. Tune into episode 24 for more listener mail and questions from Listener Lu. Thanks once again to all of our listeners and especially our international listeners. Please write in and let us know how you found the show and why you listen. We love hearing from you!!! Seriously, we love hearing from you and responding to your emails as it is one of the best parts of the show!!! Opening music is provided by the Madalitso Youth Choir as they sing their Welcome Song, recorded at the lobby of The Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia. We hope you enjoy the special Bits and Pieces 2 show!
On episode 23, Micah and I comment on listener feedback from listener Melissa, and more follow-up from listener Chris. We also introduce a new segment, Listener Lu Wants To Know. Listener Melissa wants to learn about what I eat along the way and lounge food. Micah and I dive a bit deeper into the food experiences onboard and on the ground. Listener Chris provides some follow-up about his trip to Japan in the '90s. In the new segment Listener Lu Wants To Know, she asks Micah about The Kitchen in Freedom, Maine. (I guess this really will be a foodie-based show!) Micah introduces us to some more music, Singapore by Tom Waits, and then we talk about my two non-consecutive adventure days in Singapore. Listener Matt and I biked around the Island and we finally able to enjoy a Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel. On these 4 segments to and from Singapore, I was able to fly in every class of service. Economy, Premium Economy and Polaris Class. And we get to talk about food. Did I mention the food in Singapore is great! Thanks once again to all of our listeners and especially our international listeners. Please write in and let us know how you found the show and why you listen. We love hearing from you!!! Opening music is provided by the Madalitso Youth Choir as they sing their Welcome Song, recorded at the lobby of The Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia. We hope you enjoy the show!
On episode 22, Micah and I comment on listener feedback from listener Grant, and listener Chris. Listener Grant is still confused over how United calculates Frequent Flyer Miles and Million Miler Miles... and I don't blame him. Its confusing. Listener Chris successfully answers Micah's trivia question and is awarded a special prize. He also talks about why people might be listening to the show and then he recalls seeing the South African cooling towers on an episode of The Amazing Race. Micah talks about Jean Shepherd and the features of PocketCast. We then talk about my adventures in Singapore, two whole days worth, and my air travels getting there and back. Fortunately the Singapore Grand Prix was going on... but unfortunately the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel was very crowded and I never got my picture of the Singapore Sling mixing machine. That will have to wait until next trip.

Today's session holds the Terpene Therapy record for the longest episode title! (so far!) I wanted to do a little bit of show and tell this week featuring some products that I got on my bachelor party trip up to Ann Arbor! Last week, I talked about some of the products and my experience at Winewood Organics. So, this week I'm talking about my experience at Information Entropy! The in-house flower at Information Entropy is of equal quality to the in-house flower from Winewood Organics. Both of those stores get the Terpene Therapy Seal of Approval! That being said, I tried some hash rosin that I feel was not worth the price from a company who's lobbied against allowing people to grow their own cannabis. Because it is a plant, people should have the choice to either grow their own or purchase cannabis from a licensed retailer. That is my opinion and I will always stand by it. The rosin I got was the Singapore Sling by Pleasantrees. I would not support this company normally, I just had to get one gram to be sure that my suspicions were true. They were. Listeners of a delicate disposition, cover your ears now, because in our final episode of 2021, we discuss the world's rudest, funniest place names, including the village of Muff in Donegal, Ireland and Twatt in the Scottish Orkney islands. Inspired by the Rude Road Trip around the UK, undertaken by brothers Andy and Magnus Tait in 2019, we chat about naughty nomenclature, including Sandy Balls holiday resort in England, Pig Turd Alley in Sacramento, USA and Shag Point, South Australia, among others. In our Top 5 we drink 5 famous cocktails named after, or invented in, different global destinations, and rank them in order. As you'd image, we get increasingly tipsy as we drink our way through the list. What would be your favourite - a Bellini from Harry's Bar, Venice; a Pisco Sour from Peru or Chile; A Singapore Sling from the Long Bar in Raffles, Singapore; a Mojito from Cuba or an Irish coffee? We try them all so you don't have to. We finish the episode with the answer to the Where In The World clues Heidi gave Andrea at the start of the show. There's no interview this episode (because, alcohol) but we'll be back in January with more chats, another Where in the World, a top 5 and an interview with an influential travel expert. SUBSCRIBE to our podcast, and follow us on Instagram at @travelinyourpocketpodcast, on Twitter at @Travel_IYP or email us at travel@inyourpocket.com Thanks, as always, to our good friends from Northern Ireland band 3D Shark, who provide our theme tune. Our 5th episode will be out towards the end of January. See you then, wherever you are in the world!
This week Laura tells the stories behind two famous cocktails inspired by women: the Margarita and the Singapore Sling. Then Vanessa talks about a bar called Holler House, where a tradition inspired by its former owner has women hanging their bras from the ceiling (it's also where you can find the the oldest certified bowling alley in the United States)!
