Before we dive into today's episode, I want to take a moment to acknowledge a significant event that has touched millions around the world. His leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to faith and service left an indelible mark not only on the Catholic Church but also on the global community. Whether you are a person of faith or simply someone who values the impact of a life dedicated to service, his legacy reminds us of the power of humility, hope, and unity. Bobby shares stories of his family's culinary legacy, travel tales with his daughter Stella, and reflections on how Italian wine and food are inextricably linked. This lively conversation takes listeners on a tour through the heart of Italian wine country, exploring regions like Marche, Umbria, Lazio, and, of course, Tuscany. Wines from Umbria are often considered “delightfully undervalued.” Right now, that sounds especially appealing! Grechetto is one of those wines from Umbria that is flying under the radar, but it shouldn't be. This week, we dig into this wonderful white wine from Italy's “Little Green Heart” - and the exciting part is that we found two very different styles of it, one more like an oaky Chardonnay, and one more like a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, so there's a version out there for any white wine lover on your list. They have been making wine in Umbria for thousands of years, and many believe that the name Grechetto harkens back to the Magna Graecia period in Italy when the Greeks spread their empire. And, like many Italian wines, Grechetto fell out of favor in the middle of the 20th century before it made its comeback in the 1970's thanks to the efforts and hardwork of local winemakers. Trust us, it's worth checking out. Now this is an exciting wine! We didn't have super high expectations going in - the name Kerner does not scream “adventure” - but we are telling you this is a white wine that is worth seeking out. Some call it one of the best white wines in Italy, and after tasting it, we agree, and so we are wondering why it does not get more love! It is a grape originally created in Germany as a cross between Riesling and Schiava/Trollinger to be a workhorse and handle cold weather, the Italians have made it into a rich, complex, and beautiful aromatic white wine. Confused about why this German wine is being made in Germany?!? Listen in and we'll tell you why! Both the wines we tried in this episode are excellent, and what is fun is that they are both a little different from each other - the Abbazia wine we would call adventurous and worth seeking out, and the winemaker is no slouch, having won the Gambero Rosso Winemaker of the Year in 2009. What a beautiful wine! You may not have heard of Greco di Tufo, and you may not be familiar with wines from Campania in southern Italy, but we are hoping that we can change that! Greco is an ancient wine grape, brought to the area around Naples by the Greeks thousands of years ago, that nearly went extinct in this area of Italy. Thankfully, some hard working farmers and heritage wine making projects kept the wine alive, and we are the lucky benefactors today. There are only four DOCG designations in Campania - that is the highest designation of Italian wine - and Greco di Tufo is one of them. The name Tufo comes from a tiny town, but also from the volcanic soil, called tuff, that gives Greco di Tufo its distinct and beautiful flavor. If you are a white wine lover, and/or a seafood lover, this wine is a must try. Don't say we didn't warn you - because once you try this wine, you may never go back to Prosecco! Don't get us wrong. We like a nice Aperol spritz made with Prosecco, and Prosecco was the sparkling wine that opened our eyes to sparkling wine, but if you want a more elegant, interesting, and food friendly wine, Franciacorta cleans Prosecco's clock! There is a reason that Franciacorta and not Prosecco is considered to be a competitor to Champagne. Made in the same method as Champagne (Prosecco is not) and from similar grapes (which, again, Prosecco is not), Franciacorta has a taste and mouthfeel that is unique and complex, and if there are some of you out there who just don't get what all the fuss is about Champagne or about Prosecco, you may find that Franciacorta is the sparkling wine you have been waiting for. Holy smokes, did we find a great wine! If you or someone you know is a Sangiovese skeptic, just doesn't get what all the fuss is about Chianti wine, then you owe it to yourself and them to try this wine made from the Sangiovese Grosse grape, a mutation of the standard Sangiovese grape used in Chianti. You will become a convert. We promise! Hailing from the Montalcino region of Italy, just south of Siena, the same region that Brunello di Montalcino is from, is this fabulous wine made from the same grape as Brunello, but is a more affordable, and some say more approachable, cousin or sibling of Brunello. If you don't know, Brunello is one of the great wines of Italy, and this wine is no slouch either. Rich, complex, fruity, and balanced, this wine is fabulous with meat dishes, rich red sauce pastas and lasagnas, and spicy wood fired pizza. After listening to this episode, you will want to run to your local wine shop to load up on this wine! We don't often give such high scores to wines at this price point. From the great wine region of Piedmont, Italy comes the red wine called Dolcetto, which means “little sweet one” - but don't be fooled, this is not a sweet wine, although it is a red wine with flavors and aromas of crunchy red fruit. In our latest Italian Wine Adventure, we travel back to one of our favorite wine areas to see if Dolcetto should be on your wine list. Sometimes called the sommelier's secret weapon, this wine is less expensive than many wines from Piedmont, and can pair well with some classic Italian foods. We will say, though, that you need to try it first before you order it because this wine is a little atypical for an Italian wine. Listen in as we kick things off with a walk down memory lane, reflecting on the iconic early 2000s music scene and our own sartorial missteps, including a hilarious look back at my bedazzled JNCO jeans phase and my 21st birthday. But it's not all laughs; we also explore the physical and mental marathon of half-marathons, diving into the trials of being a "Clydesdale" runner and the rush of pushing through race after race.Pour yourself a glass of wine and settle in as we chat about more than just music—experience the richness of Italian wines and the vibrancy of Pearl Jam concerts. With special guest Jeff Whitman unable to join us at the wine tasting event, his stunning photos still paint a vivid backdrop to our discussion. From the cherry notes of Puglia's dark wines to the traditional Sangiovese of Tuscany, we savor the flavors and how they enhance the Italian dining experience. And as we rate tracks from the latest albums and share our personal connections to the songs, we reflect on how music is an ever-present narrative in our lives, mirroring our growth and life stages.Rounding out our sonic adventure, we speculate on the Pearl Jam tour, debate the complexities of concert ticket pricing, and revel in the shared experiences that only music can provide. The episode culminates with a look forward to a special fan connection event in Seattle, highlighting the tight-knit community that surrounds Pearl Jam. So, whether you're a long-time fan or just along for the ride, there's something in this episode for you. Get ready to be part of the conversation and perhaps even take away a new appreciation for the music that soundtracks our lives.www.TheTouringFanLive.commedia@TheTouringFanLive.Comwww.facebook.com/TheTouringFanLiveInstagram-@TheTouringFanLiveCopyright The Touring Fan Live 2022

I'm excited for you to join me today in the southern part of Tuscany, an area called Maremma, and one we haven't yet explored on the show. Here you'll find sun-kissed olive groves, pristine stretches of coastline, and of course, gorgeous wines.  We're settling in at the stunning Castello di Vicarello for a chat with my friend, and the owner, Neri Baccheschi Berti who in a surprising turn of events, tells us how he was actually born inside the castle during its renovation!  Neri and I chat about his family, how they came to fall in love with this piece of history, and the path that took them from fashion and creativity to becoming accidental hoteliers. We also dive into ancient Italian rivalries, Tuscan cuisine, and learning how to slow down and take it all in.  Learn more at www.luxtravelinsider.com   Connect with me on Social: Instagram LinkedIn
