FAMU finished the football season against Mississippi Valley State in a make-up game which may have helped the Rattlers stave off a losing season. On the other end of the spectrum is the SWAC Champion FAMU volleyball team who parlayed a successful run in the SWAC tournament into an NCAA tournament berth. The Florida Classic is one of the best events that takes place in the entire state of Florida. The game has tons of pageantry, history and draws strong feelings of those who are supporters of both teams. This year is no different and an added bonus is that the FAMU women have a basketball game on Friday Night. Along with the sporting event the week is filled with parties and other opportunities for hobnobbing about. The Classic aside, FAMU is also hosting the SWAC Volleyball tournament at the Lawson Center. The Volleyball team has had varying levels of success for most of the season but as the season has come to a close a winning streak gives FAMU faithful a ton of hope. FAMU went on the road to Huntsville, Alabama and kept up a winning streak against Alabama A&M University which has withstood a notable test of time.The game had its evs and flow but the outcome while in questions ended up benefitting the people in Orange and Green. It was another game that had a positive outcome, that also put on display the many frustrations that have had supporters questioning how the successes of the program were truly reached. The football team will get the majority of your attention, but the weekend as a whole was fairly successful. The Volleyball team was able to get two wins this week and finish the season on a winning streak. The Night after Halloween saw FAMU football produce a scary product. A first half that featured many missed opportunities was followed by a second half that was nothing less than an abject disaster.Once again we saw that this version of FAMU football is not destined to be one of the Top football teams in the South Western Conference. Two very proud programs who are among the Blue Bloods of HBCU football meet up in what many prior to the beginning of the season thought would be a game which would determine who the SWAC champion may be. Instead we are faced with a loser leaving town sure they will be in rebuild mode for the next 9-10 months. FAMU was able to defeat Albany State in a game that was very close until the end of the game. But even after defeating Albany State FAMU fans have a ton of questions about what this team will be going into SWAC play. FAMU seems to have QB1 but that could be in doubt, FAMU seemed to have what appeared to be a championship level defense but that could be in doubt and FAMU looked to be a potential favorite to win the SWAC but that could also be questioned. FAMU fans need a win in the worst of ways and it needs to come at the expense of the Albany State Golden Rams. But the Rams roll into Bragg at 2-0 while FAMU limps in at 0-2 and led by a former Rattler. It is definitely not a Rivalry but at the end of FAMU's time in the MEAC one of the must watch games was North Carolina Central. This game was good for a close outcome and was the game that many of us predicted would be the matchup for the Celebration Bowl. Well the Celebration Bowl predictions proved to be just that, but we do get what could be a battle between two of the top teams in HBCU football .Additionally the fact that this is camp season has resulted in a few student athletes receiving an offer to continue playing sports at the Highest of Seven Hills. Last time FAMU played in the Benz it was a great celebration for many that culminated in the end of an era.
