The end result is a movie that's got really great pacing and sense of cause and effect, but has just a little too much Tom Arnold for comfort. Here we go! Clingy carny criminal cajacks and kidnaps kids, is caught by a Karen cop, and continues to cut and run, causing chaos constantly! Child abduction breast reduction! Arnold almost always averts attention away from aiming automobile! PC police prevent piss-poor P.T. Barnum from profiting! Factory circus? Contributor: Aaron Lessen, MD Educational Pearls: What is a Rescue Inhaler? A rescue inhaler is a medication for people with asthma to quickly reverse the symptoms of an asthma attack. Historically albuterol (Short Acting Beta Agonist (SABA)) monotherapy has been the mainstay rescue inhaler. This is because albuterol works fast and is relatively cheap. What are Combination Rescue Inhalers? Combination rescue inhalers contain a fast-acting bronchodilator as well as an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) The steroid helps to reduce some of the chronic airway inflammation that is worsening the asthma attack and can help to prevent future attacks Examples include budesonide-formoterol and albuterol-budesonide Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), states that combination therapy is now the preferred reliever for adults and adolescents with mild asthma What are the drawbacks of Combination Rescue Inhalers? These inhalers are generally more expensive than just using a SABA inhaler which can be a barrier for some people Improper use can also lead to conditions like thrush due to the addition of the steroid References Krings JG, Beasley R. Nine days later, at about 7:00 am, the vessel was docked in Portland, Maine, when a fire broke out in the engine room. The NTSB released a report this week that traced the fire to debris in the engine's lube oil system, which led to a catastrophic mechanical failure in the no. 2 auxiliary diesel generator engine. The fire injured a crewmember, but it self-extinguished after the crew ventilated the engine room. Still, the incident caused some $2.4 million in damage.

Earlier this year we collectively watched in horror as Los Angeles burned. In all, at least 29 people were killed, 200,000 were forced to evacuate, and more than 18,000 homes and structures were destroyed. Many, like our own Peter Tilden were forced from their homes. While thankfully his house wasn’t destroyed, it remains covered in a toxic soot, consisting of noxious chemicals and other unknown particulates. Months later his home, like so many others is still uninhabitable. Really, no really. As Peter and other Angelinos struggle with insurance companies, shady contactors, temporary housing, and more, we wondered: How are people, whether by fires or floods, hurricanes or tornadoes, able to go home again? Is it Improper to Date a Girl Who Has an Older Unmarried Sister?

Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 20, 2025

If a young man is suggested a Shidduch with a girl who is, let's say, 21 years old, and that girl has an unmarried 23-year-old sister, would it be improper for the boy to date the girl? Should he be concerned about the possibility that the older sister will feel resentment over the fact that her younger sister is marrying before her, which could invite the "Ayin Ha'ra" (evil eye) or otherwise cast a dark shadow over the marriage? This question also arises in the reverse case, of a girl who is introduced to a young man who has an older unmarried brother. This question was addressed already by the Maharit (Rav Yosef of Trani, 1568-1639), who wrote that there is no prohibition at all against marrying somebody who has an older unmarried sibling. He notes that this concern was relevant only in ancient times when it was customary for the father to marry off his daughters when they were still children, by accepting Kiddushin on their behalf. When the father accepts Kiddushin for the betrothal of his daughters, it is improper to marry off his younger daughter before the older daughter. Nowadays, of course, young women marry on their own, when they are adults, and in such a case there is no concern whatsoever when a younger sister marries before her older sister. Similarly, the Or Ha'haim (Torah commentary by Rav Haim Ben-Attar, 1696-1743), in Parashat Vayeseh (29:26), writes that the sequence of marriage is of concern only for the girls' father, but not for the groom. Meaning, if a man wishes to marry a younger sister, he may certainly do so, and it is the sisters' father who must worry about first marrying off the older daughter. The Or Ha'haim draws proof to this theory from Yaakob Abinu, who wished to marry Rahel even though her older sister, Leah, was unmarried. Of course, Laban switched the two sisters, but regardless, Yaakob was prepared to marry Rahel even though Leah was unmarried, proving that this is not an issue with which a groom must be concerned. Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv (contemporary) indeed rules that one may date and marry a girl who has an older unmarried sister, and a girl may marry a boy with an older unmarried brother, as the older sibling's need to get married is not the responsibility of the younger sibling's suitor. And besides, as Rav Elyashiv noted, it can generally be assumed that the older sibling does not mind the younger sibling's marriage. Certainly, a younger sibling should not be forced to remain single just because he or she has an unmarried older sibling. Therefore, an older unmarried sibling should not be a factor in considering a marriage prospect. Ideally, of course, we want all our children to marry as soon as they are ready and in order, but if this does not happen, the younger siblings are free to date and marry even if there is an unmarried older sibling. Summary: It is entirely permissible for a girl to date and marry a boy who has an older unmarried brother, and for a boy to date and marry a girl who has an older unmarried sister.

“If we allow him to go on like this, soon everyone will believe in him. Then the Roman army will come and destroy both our Temple and our nation.” (John 11:48 NLT) Many people who saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead believed in Him. That’s not surprising. Miracles will have that effect on people. What is surprising is that other people who were present went straight to the religious leaders in Jerusalem and told them what Jesus had done. These people saw the grief and suffering of Lazarus’ family and friends. They saw the compassion of Jesus, who mourned with them. They saw His courage in traveling to a region where He was a wanted man. They saw His power over death itself. They were witnesses to one of the most profound miracles in human history. And their only thought was how they could use the miracle as evidence to prosecute the miracle worker. They reported Him to the authorities. For what? Improper disposal of a corpse? Grave robbing? Tampering with death? The news of Lazarus’ resurrection raised the stakes for Jesus’ enemies. They didn’t even try to deny His power anymore. Or His appeal to the people of Israel. They knew that as word spread about His power over death, His popularity would soar. And that’s what they were afraid of. The Jewish religious leaders had a good thing going. They had power, respect, authority, influence, and wealth. And it was all tied to the temple in Jerusalem, the center of worship in Israel. The temple was their domain, and they were prepared to eliminate anyone who threatened their control of it. They were afraid that if Jesus became too popular, Rome would start to view the entire Jewish religious system as a threat. They were afraid the Roman authorities would outlaw their religious practices and destroy the temple. Caiaphas, the high priest, made it clear what they had to do. He said, “You don’t realize that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed” (verse 50 NLT). He had no way of knowing just how prophetic his words were. In a little more than a week, that one man would die not just for His people but for the whole world, so that we would not be destroyed. You probably know, or know of, people who are as hard-hearted as the spies who witnessed Lazarus’ resurrection. They’ve seen evidence of God’s work—changed lives, answered prayers, small miracles even. Yet they still refuse to believe in or follow Jesus. Instead, they double down on their disbelief and oppose the Christian faith. Our job isn’t to convince them that what we believe is the truth. We can’t argue them into becoming Christians. Those things are the work of the Holy Spirit. Our job is to stay humble. To minister with a servant’s heart. To pray for them. To talk about our faith as casually and naturally as we do any other subject. To be ready with an answer when they challenge us. To show genuine concern and compassion. And to model Christ’s love. — Listen to the Greg Laurie Podcast Become a Harvest PartnerSupport the show: https://harvest.org/supportSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
