In this shortcast edition of Beyond the To-Do List, Jeffrey and Jamie Downs, creators of the Streaking method and authors behind streakingmastery.com explore how laughably simple daily habits can help you build momentum, boost confidence, and turn goals into long-term identity shifts. Why Simplicity Wins: Simple actions are doable even on your hardest days, ensuring consistency over time. How Streaking Builds Self-Credibility: Each completed action is a commitment kept—with yourself.Patience as a Superpower: Daily repetition teaches you to stop expecting overnight change and instead trust the slow, steady build. The “Cal Ripken Effect”: Consistency becomes inspiring—when others notice, celebration fuels even more momentum.Examples in Action: From running streaks to walking daily, small actions lead to transformation when stacked. Why You Shouldn't Skip the Walk: When life gets busy, a one-mile walk still counts—and builds your streak. If you've ever struggled to maintain momentum or felt overwhelmed by ambitious goals, this episode will give you a new lens for creating daily progress that sticks.Find more Shortcasts like this one on Blinkist here. When we think of Lou Gehrig, we usually think about one of two things: his tragic early death or his record breaking consecutive games played streak, which began this week 100 years ago. This week, we celebrate the happier of those two aspects of his life and career, looking back at the 2,130 games that made up Gehrig's incredible accomplishment. Through it, you get a sense of just how determined, exceptional, and lucky Laruppin' Lou was until the moment his luck and body gave out. Plus, happy birthday to Terry Kennedy and Johnny Mostil! And farewell to Billy Smith, Tony Blanco, Octavio Dotel and Nate Oliver.

Send us a textBen Cohen joined us to discuss his new book "The Hot Hand: The Mystery and Science of Streaks." We talked about the lack of Michael Jordan on NBA Jam for Sega Genesis, the difference between "hot hand" and "dumb luck," how to write songs like John Lennon, and a special "hot hand" Spotify playlist. (From 3-12-20)
In this episode: Clayton Kershaw makes his season debut for the Dodgers. The Twins' 13-game winning streak is broken by the Brewers. Jose Alvarado is suspended for 80 games, and another manager loses his job.
It's one of the most iconic records in sports, Joe DiMaggio's unbelievably improbable 56 game hitting streak, that began 84 years ago this week. With Kyle Schwarber's 47 game on-base streak now snapped, Mike and Bill thought it was appropriate to revisit the greatest streak of them all, going step by step through this incredible accomplishment and marvel at the talent and luck it took to ultimately pull it off. Plus, happy birthday to Chicken Wolf and Gentleman Jim Hickman!
Leila Rahimi and Marshall Harris welcomed on Matt Spiegel and Laurence Holmes for transition.

Ben kicks us off talking about the humility of James, not mentioning Jesus by name. James then talks a little about James being skeptic and what happened to transform him from skeptic to being a leader of the church. We then go all over the place, from being a brother of Jesus, what that must have been like, to Bible App Streaks, to praying to God and asking Him for wisdom. It is an awesome episode and hope that you enjoy it.We encourage you to read James with us and comment on what has been sticking out to you?Enjoy and have a blessed day.For more information visit: www.thrive.churchIf you would like to give financially you can do so here: www.thrive.church/give/If you need prayer email us at prayer@thrive.churchThis is a presentation of Thrive.Church©All Rights Reserved

Sometimes, you know, the goal is out so far or it's so big that they get disconnected from it. So making sure that you have some smaller, shorter term goals is helpful in preventing p gas.15:51 - It's the thing they can control, and that's where the discipline of doing what needs to be done, whether you feel like it or not, is critical.18:19 - When you're in a slump, it's helpful to step back for a moment and take the long view, right? To shift your perspective a little—looking in both directions: where you've been, how you got here, and where you're going. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Disappointing/frustrating draw for Atlanta United against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at the Benz. The visitors did not test Brad Guzan at all in the match, but Atlanta was unable to take advantage of 5 big chances in the first half and some very strong play. Miami comes to town next weekend, they managed to beat Charlotte while playing with 10 for the majority of the match yesterday. Lionel Messi was an unused substitute yesterday, mainly due to the way the game played out with the first half red card to the goalkeeper Oscar Ustari followed by getting the lead and then defending deeper. Charlotte did not manage a shot on goal in the match. Philadelphia and Vancouver remain perfect with three wins in three tries this season. Ryan Gauld left the match for the Whitecaps in the first half with a non-contact knee injury though, which is a massive concern for them. Seattle throttled LAFC 5-2, Jordan Morris became the club's all-time leading scorer, Paul Rothrock starred in the win, but Pedro de la Vega left with an injury in the first half. The Sounder next go to Mexico, where they haven't won in their last 7 tries, to face Cruz Azul in the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 matchup after a scoreless draw in the first leg. Kansas City has lost 10 straight in all competitions (plus 6 preseason losses) after a loss in DC on Saturday night. They lost 10 straight during the 2024 season as well, and lost 10 straight to open the 2023 season, and had a 7-game losing streak in 2022. When will things improve for SKC? When will they improve for Portland as well? James Pantemis made two penalty saves in the first 20 minutes but the Timbers still lost 2-0 in Nashville. The LA Galaxy lost their 4th straight to open 2025, 2-0 at home to St. Louis. Marco Reus has not been the Riqui Puig replacement Greg Vanney hoped for, and they're missing Dejan Jovelic as well, and now they have to get a win against Herediano to advance in Concacaf Champions Cup. The Premier League Summer Series is coming back to Atlanta on August 3rd. Another huge crowd is expected at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Bournemouth vs West Ham followed by Everton vs Manchester United. More than 20 soccer games at the Benz this season are on the books and crowds will exceed one million for the year by a pretty wide margin. Real Madrid pulls even with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. The Blaugrana did not play over the weekend, as their match was postponed followed the unexpected death of a team doctor. Milan rumors heating up the tabloids in Italy with meetings to hire a new sporting director expected shortly and that could lead to a new manager hire in the summer. Other nuggets included in the podcast. Thanks for subscribing to SDH on YouTube, wherever you get your podcasts, and on your preferred social media platforms!
