Welcome to this week's episode of Make it Plain. Kehinde opens up with an update about the Black Studies situation at Birmingham City University. Unfortunately, the university has ignored almost 10,000 signatories to the petition and the public backlash against their decision to cut the course and get rid of Black members of staff. Please do continue to support the campaign. He then reflects on Andy Burnham winning the by-election that opens up a leadership challenge for British prime minster. He warns that Labour is dominated by a fight between mediocre White men that can only lead to negative outcomes for all of us. Kehinde never addresses the trolls, or usually even reads the comments but for change he opens up the racist mailbag. The questions and comments are so ludicrous its an excellent opportunity to laugh at the state of the world. From 'where is the White Studies professor?' to people quoting Michael Jackson, join us on the hilarious journey through the psychosis of Whiteness. David Lammy loses the plot on police racism + the media let Farage exploit the death of Henry Nowak

The racist myth that police aren't inherently institutionally racist is finally debunked—yet the denial persists, this time being spread by Labour politician David Lammy. Kehinde exposes the shocking reality behind police practices, racism in politics, and how the narratives we've been fed are designed to keep systemic injustice intact. Why do policymakers and even some Black leaders deny the deep-rooted institutional racism in law enforcement, and how is this denial harming us all? In this provocative episode, Kehinde unpacks the disturbing footage of police misconduct—whether it's the brutal treatment of Black victims or the tragic case of Henry Nowak—and reveals how these are not isolated incidents but symptoms of a racist system built into the very fabric of policing. You'll discover why claims of "bad apples" are a distraction from the real problem: the institution itself. We break down how reforms have been cosmetic, rooted in interest convergence and staged crises, rather than genuine systemic change. We explore the long history of police brutality, from the Stephen Lawrence case to the recent obsession with "two-tier systems," and how mainstream discourse is shifting blame away from institutional racism toward individual incompetence or "bad character." Kehinde challenges you to reframe the conversation—reject the false dichotomy of "racism against white people" and see the real enemy: systemic, structural racism woven into policies, practices, and culture. This episode is essential listening for anyone fed up with superficial police reform and ready to understand how to organize beyond politics as usual. Why is true reform impossible without changing the fundamental frameworks? And how can Black communities organize for power outside these collapsing institutions? Kehinde urges us to see this crisis not as a sign of racial decline but as a wake-up call for radical resistance and unity. Whether you're a student, activist, or concerned citizen, this episode will challenge your assumptions, reveal uncomfortable truths, and inspire collective action. The fight for real justice starts with understanding the frames we're told to accept—and rejecting them. Why listen? Because systemic racism in policing is not a myth. It's a lived reality that demands radical rethinking, community organization, and a break from the narratives that keep us divided. It's time to expose the illusions, flip the frame, and build a future rooted in truth and resistance. Join Kehinde as he unpacks these uncomfortable truths—ready to challenge the mainstream, ignite your political consciousness, and link the dots between police brutality, racial injustice, and the urgent need for grassroots power. We share what may have been the last ever event at Birmingham City University for Black Studies, a conversation between Kehinde and, Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw on her ground breaking new book 'Backtalker'. More than 400 people came out to celebrate the work. The fight to preserve Black Studies is more urgent than ever—and it's rooted in a history of erasure, resistance, and unwavering community strength. In this deeply personal and powerful episode, the pioneer behind critical race theory and intersectionality, pulls back the curtain on how systemic forces are rewriting history and silencing truths—yet black communities continue to fight back with resilience and sharp analysis. Crenshaw shares eye-opening stories from her own life—like nearly being killed by her ex in college, and the relentless efforts to undermine Black women's experiences—highlighting the critical need to defend the frameworks that illuminate racial and gender injustice. She explores how powerful narratives are deliberately erased—whether through bans on books, attacks on Black Studies curricula, or censorship of vital concepts like intersectionality—and exposes how these acts aim to rewrite the story of racial progress. You'll discover how right-wing forces are systematically dismantling the academic and cultural pillars that document and challenge racial oppression. Crenshaw breaks down the real impact of banning ideas like critical race theory, queer theory, and Black Studies—an assault not just on education, but on democracy itself. She also shares strategic lessons on how activists, scholars, and communities can push back effectively—by reclaiming history, advancing intersectional analysis, and resisting the forces that threaten to erase the wisdom of marginalized voices. This episode is perfect for students of social justice, educators, activists, and anyone committed to understanding how embedded power structures operate—and how to dismantle them. Crenshaw's insights equip us with the tools to fight for an authentic, inclusive "we" that acknowledges all of our experiences and histories, especially those most vulnerable. Why does the attack on Black Studies and intersectionality matter? Because the future depends on whether we will defend the knowledge that roots us in truth, or allow it to be wiped out. Join Professor Crenshaw—whose work helped shape the civil rights movement and who continues to lead the fight for justice—and get inspired to speak back and stand firm in this crucial moment.  Get your copy of Backtalker now: https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/446848/backtalker-by-crenshaw-kimberle-williams/9780241585221 Read the public letter and sign the petition in support of Black Studies at BCU https://c.org/hnpyKBCX7X Read about the attack on Black Studies: BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy2d6eg050o The Voice: https://www.voice-online.co.uk/news/uk-news/2026/05/18/they-just-dont-care-about-black-stuff-prof-kehinde-andrews-slams-decision-to-axe-bcu-black-studies-degree/ Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/education/2026/may/12/birmingham-city-university-urged-not-to-axe-black-studies-ma In the Times Higher: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/black-studies-masters-course-close-birmingham-city Join Harambee OBU: www.blackunity.org.uk Written and hosted by: Kehinde Andrews Edited by: Kadiri Andrews Artwork by: Assata Andrews

In this episode of Transmission Interrupted, host Jill Morgan sits down with Dr. Gaby Frank, internist and director of the Special Pathogens Center at Johns Hopkins, to provide clarity and insight on the current hantavirus outbreak. The conversation kicks off by demystifying essential public health terms like "isolation" and "quarantine," explaining their definitions and uses in the context of infectious diseases in the U.S. Jill and Dr. Frank then dive into the science behind hantavirus, specifically the unique Andes virus strain in Argentina and its rare but notable potential for human-to-human transmission, a distinction setting it apart from the many other hantavirus strains found throughout the Americas. Listeners will gain a clearer understanding of how hantavirus is typically contracted—primarily from aerosolized rodent droppings rather than person-to-person transmission—and the actual risks associated with exposure. The episode highlights findings from a long-term study in Chile, which revealed only 3.3% of close contacts developed the disease, with greatest risk among household and romantic partners. Jill and Dr. Frank dispel some of the fear and misinformation circulating about hantavirus, stressing that while severe cases can occur, the general public's risk remains very low. Through expert perspective and practical advice, this episode underscores the importance of strategic preparedness and ongoing research, empowering listeners with the knowledge they need to stay safe and informed. Learn how to donate effectively for Giving Tuesday and juggle multiple credit cards without hurting your credit score. How can you donate more intentionally on Giving Tuesday without blowing your budget? Does having multiple credit cards hurt your credit score? Hosts Elizabeth Ayoola and Sean Pyles discuss charitable giving and credit card management to help you support causes you care about while protecting your finances. Joined by Grace Nicolette, Vice President of Programming and External Relations at the Center for Effective Philanthropy and co-host of the Giving Done Right podcast, they begin with a discussion of how Giving Tuesday started and why intentional giving matters. They share tips and tricks on setting a realistic donation goal, choosing causes that align with your values, and spotting nonprofit red flags beyond “overhead ratios.” Grace also explains how to plan giving throughout the year, how to research organizations using public filings and news coverage, ways to overcome “do-gooder paralysis,” and the benefits of involving family and friends so giving becomes a shared, values-driven habit. Then, NerdWallet credit card and travel rewards expert Erin Hurd joins Elizabeth and Sean to discuss how having multiple credit cards (and we mean multiple!) can affect your credit score and day-to-day money life. They discuss why the number of cards you have matters less than how you manage them, how credit utilization and credit age really work, and why aggressive “churning” — opening cards for bonuses and quickly closing them — can backfire. Erin walks through how a large card lineup can actually help your utilization if you avoid overspending and always pay in full, why she treats card collecting as a long game, and how business cards may not show up on your personal credit report. She shares tactics for deciding when to keep, downgrade, or cancel a card with an annual fee, how to get value from airline and hotel perks, and how to avoid feeling overwhelmed by multiple accounts using tools like aligned due dates, autopay, spreadsheets, and digital tools such as the NerdWallet app. Resources discussed in this episode: How to Upgrade or Downgrade Your Credit Card: https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/how-to-upgrade-downgrade-your-credit-card  7 Credit Card Tips Everyone Should Know https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/credit-card-tips-everyone-should-know  How to Stay Organized When You Have Multiple Credit Cards https://www.nerdwallet.com/credit-cards/learn/stay-organized-multiple-credit-cards I've Had 80 Credit Cards. Want customers to talk about your brand without being asked? In this CX Pulse Check, we bring on Brooke Sellas, founder of B Squared Media and a leader in social customer care, to unpack how emotion—not content volume—creates durable connection, retention, and revenue. Together we push past vanity metrics and dig into signals that actually matter: the unsolicited thank-yous, the screenshots, the stitches, and the small moments of care customers can't help but share. Our conversation moves from principle to practice. We map out how to define success for customers and for the business, then build joy loops that reward participation and make advocacy feel like a feature. We talk candidly about creator care—how high-velocity social teams face relentless expectations and why, in the age of AI, creative risk is the differentiator. We also look inside modern support: when bots deflect FAQs, humans inherit the complex, emotional problems. We also break down Salesforce's decision to replace a lightly used help search with AI and the community backlash that followed. The lesson is clear: internal metrics don't equal external sentiment. Listening publicly, restoring a dedicated search capability, and co-creating with power users can turn friction into fuel.If you care about customer experience, social strategy, or contact center leadership, you'll leave with insights for measuring emotion, protecting the people who power your brand, and taking smart risks that cut through AI's sea of sameness. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a teammate, and leave a quick review.About Brooke Sellas:Brooke Sellas is shaping the future of digital marketing one conversation at a time.
