Many of these homes are being resold to upscale buyers or rented out to those of a middle income class. If you have rocked with us all of 2024, we want to say thank you for your loyal listenership. Stay tuned, as we have more stories to be told of men overcoming their mental health in the future. December will introduce our final season/series titled “Black Fathers & Sons.” The goal of this season is to dedicate our platform to black fathers and sons as we bring these men on to discuss the positive dynamics within the relationship that are often overlooked by society. Got a great guest pair kicking off this season, let's get into today's episode! We are excited to bring to our platform the first guest duo for our “Black Fathers & Sons” season. Brandon Sawyers (son) is a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a degree in Accounting. Although he couldn't make it, we want to give a shoutout to Brandon's older brother AJ, who also has played an influential roll in the overall development of Brandon as a young man. Representing the south side of Chicago, we bring forth Neru “Mr. Lawrence” Gobin (bonus dad) to the platform. A graduate of the University Of Illinois, and majored in Psychology, he began working at a hospital in Illinois. Time surpassed where Mr. Lawrence traveled down south to Tennessee State University where he ventured into starting his career, and while in that process, also meeting the woman that he now calls his wife. We dive into our conversation with these young men and see how mentally they have managed life individually, as well as together. One topic we brought up is how a man can often times be crippled mentally and emotionally when he doesn't have a dollar to his name. Any black man, or man in general, surely can say that it's no fun when there's nothing in your pockets. But especially for black men, we are labeled, stereotyped, and stigmatized daily. Then to not have any way to support your family or yourself? Surely could put anyone in helpless state with their mental health. A lot to take away from this episode, please take some time to listen to a father & son vent today. ✌

Since 2021, the financial health of Tennessee State University has been in the news.In 2021 a group of state lawmakers found that in the previous 50 years the state had underfunded the school by about a half a billion dollars. Then, in 2023, a federal report said that the state underfunded the university by far more than the original estimate — about $2 billion dollars just between 1987 and 2020. This fall, TSU laid off more than 100 employees and just last month the administration announced further cost-saving measures to keep from running out of money by the end of the school year. Today we're taking your calls and speaking with HBCU historian Dr. Crystal deGregory, Tennessean reporter Rachel Wegner and Andrea Williams, op-ed columnist and curator of the Black Tennessee Voices initiative for the The Tennessean. Vivian's Memoir.Reverend Vivian was a Major Force in the Fight for Civil Rights & Voters Rights in the Twentieth Century till he Passed July 17th, 2020.Regardless of Social Status, Party Affiliation or Belief, Race: Libertarian, Democrat, Progressive or Republican or Other, All Americans Should Have the Right to Vote!Senator Barack Obama, speaking at Selma's Brown Chapel on the March 2007, anniversary of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches, recognized Vivian in his opening remarks in the words of Martin L. King Jr. as "the greatest preacher to ever live."Studying for the ministry at American Baptist Theological Seminary (now called American Baptist College) in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1959, Vivian met James Lawson, who was teaching Mohandas Gandhi's nonviolent direct action strategy to the Nashville Student Movement. Soon Lawson's students, including Diane Nash, Bernard Lafayette, James Bevel, John Lewis and others from American Baptist, Fisk University and Tennessee State University, organized a systematic nonviolent sit-in campaign at local lunch counters.Vivian helped found the Nashville Christian Leadership Conference, and helped organize the first sit-ins in Nashville in 1960 and the first civil rights march in 1961. During the summer following the Selma Voting Rights Movement, Vivian is perhaps best known for, Vivian challenged Sheriff Jim Clark on the steps of the courthouse in Selma, Alabama, in 1965 during a drive to promote Black people to register to vote."You can turn your back on me, but you cannot turn your back upon the idea of justice," Vivian said to Clark as reporters recorded the interaction. "You can turn your back now and you can keep the club in your hand, but you cannot beat down justice. And we will register to vote, because as citizens of these United States we have the right to do it."Vivian conceived and directed an educational program, Vision, and put 702 Alabama students in college with scholarships (this program later became Upward Bound). His 1970 Black Power and the American Myth was the first book on the Civil Rights Movement by a member of Martin Luther King's staff. On August 8, 2013, President Barack Obama named Vivian as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.Steve's own Memoir is "Three Quarters, Two Dimes, and a Nickel". Welcome home!    This week hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Tiffany Cross turn their gaze towards Tennessee, where state lawmakers voted to fire the entire board of Tennessee State University last week. Does this have anything to do with the $2 billion dollars the state owes TSU, the state's only HBCU?! Probably.    Staying in the south, Crystal Mason recently ended her years-long battle with the Texas courts, who sentenced her to prison for FIVE YEARS just for trying to vote. In 2016, she cast a provisional ballot not knowing that it was illegal for her to do so since she was technically still under state supervision. Her life has been consumed by BS (excuse the language) legal battles ever since.    Y'all have been asking and now our hosts answer– what's up with Project 2025? On this week's deep dive, we dig into the woke-obsessed 900+ page document that outlines the republican plan to literally remake the federal government in their image. If Trump wins, the plan calls for him to replace tens of thousands of public employees in the FBI, Department of Justice, and more with conservative loyalists. They're gearing up for war, y'all!   Stick around for Politics Are Everywhere, where the hosts discuss Washington State's new Strippers' Bill of Rights.   And as always, we'll hear from you.
