This week, we remember FAMU's 8th President, Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, a visionary leader whose “Excellence with Caring” philosophy shaped generations of Rattlers. His son, Laurence Humphries, joins us to share personal stories and reflections on his father's remarkable legacy.

In this episode, The Playmakers reviewed the Rattlers' must-win homecoming victory against Alcorn State. They also talked about the comeback win by the Georgia Bulldogs against Ole Miss. Concluding the show, they spotlighted their under-the-radar NBA teams for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

The heart and toughness that Head Coach Joe Hubbard has been preaching to and about his East Central Hornets were on full display this past Friday, Oct. 10, as the team fought its way back from a three-score deficit at halftime to beat the San Marcos Rattlers 28-24 at Rattler Stadium in San Marcos. Legendary rodeo cowboy, ProRodeo Hall of Famer, and Head Coach of the Texas Rattlers, Cody Lambert, joins Luke Branquinho on today's show! Chris Rosenthall and Kevin Brown welcome veteran close defenseman Michael Manley to the show to discuss his Outlaws giving him a fourth chance at a professional championship. Manley is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year back in the MLL days playing for Tim Soudan for the Rattlers (he actually started playing for Soudan at the club level before he got to Duke, where he won a NCAA title in 2010), and made it to three title games in 2014, 2015 and 2018. Manley discussed how he originally thought about retiring two years ago before Soudan drafted Brennan O'Neill and traded for Pat Kavanagh, re-energizing his efforts these past couple seasons. Rosie and Kevin also recapped the semifinal victories for the New York Atlas against the Waterdogs and Denver against California, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic clash in the title game on Sept. 14.

In this week's coaching conversation, Grambling State head coach Patrick Crarey shares insights on Relationships then Championships.Crarey comes to Grambling State after spending one season as the head coach at Florida A&M. Crarey reignited the FAMU men's basketball program, exceeding expectations and guiding the Rattlers to the SWAC Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2022. He led the Rattlers to a 13-16 overall record and a 10-8 mark in conference play. He also coached Sterling Young, who was named the SWAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year.Prior to coaching at FAMU, he served as head coach at St. Thomas University for three years, posting a 61-27 record with two consecutive NAIA Tournament appearances and three straight winning seasons.Crarey led the Bobcats to a 22-9, 10-4 record in 2023-24 and were the Sun Conference Regular Season Champions. The Bobcats made it to the NAIA Tournament 2nd Round and finished the season ranked 21st in the nation. The Bobcats regular season success led to Crarey being named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year.His coaching journey has taken him from assistant roles at La Sierra University to head coaching stints at Washington Adventist University, St. Thomas University, and Florida A&M. Crarey's track record of success includes multiple championships and accolades, including the 2014 USCAA Men's Division I National Championship, conference titles, and six NAIA National Tournament appearances. He has guided six teams to 20-plus win seasons, earning Coach of the Year honors in both the ICAA and Sun Conference.
