Ciao and Welcome to Life in Lucca with Andrea…My guest today is Debra Fast; her story is the stuff of dreams. When Debra graduated from Music School, she embraced the opportunity to play Violin with a string quartet on Cruise ships where she met the Italian pianist, Sandro Ivo Bartoli, whom she married, and started a new life in Italy. Debra speaks about her dedication to music, and in particular, her professional career as a solo violinist. She tells a mesmerising story; I particularly found her Suono Solo project, with its links to the 18th century Lucchese composer, Geminiani, fascinating. Debra is a very talented and creative musician and her enthusiasm and encouragement extends beyond her own career to that of others, for example, you will hear about her research into female musicians from her birth country, Canada. **Debra Fast will be performing in "Lucca Classica" on the 24th of April 2025, at 3.pm at the Museo Nazionale di Villa Guinigi, Lucca.**Connect with DebraYouTube Channel: Debra Fast, Violinist https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNx_eSIve99gUKQH9In6lKgFacebook: Debra Fast, violinist: https://www.facebook.com/debrafast.violinist/LinkedIn: Debra Fast, violinist

After they had their second child they decided to uproot their family and move to Guido's native country, Italy. A deciding factor in choosing Lucca was the excellent Bilingual schools. In this episode, Nicole discusses her experience of moving from the States to Italy, and the array of opportunities for her children, not least as they are now more fluent in Italian than their Mama!If you are thinking of moving to Lucca, or spending an extended period in Lucca with a young family, this episode is especially insightful… Connect with NicoleWebsite: www.nicolecloutierdigital.comE:mail: nicole@nicolecloutierdigital.comNicole's RecommendationsTrattoria Gigi… Piazza del Carmine, 7Da Ciacco… Piazza Napoleone,10Da Umberto… Piazza Napoleone, 24Pasticceria Meucci… Via Vittorio Veneto, 12Osteria del Bastian Contrario… Via San Paolino, 90Osteria Da Rosolo… Corte Campana, 3Gelateria Veneta… Via Vittorio Veneto, 74Walk or cycle the WallsClimb the Guinigi TowerBasilica di San FredianoCycle around Centro Storico and exploreMaria Pacini Fazzi Editore… Local history book shop and publisher… Via Sant'Andrea, 12Etta's English book shop… Chiasso Barletti, 16Watch a film at Astra Cinema… Piazza del Giglio, 7Dinner at Buca di San Antonio… Via della Cervia, 3Favourite Italian Word/PhraseBene… buono… bello/a… goodMosto fiato…. My guest this week is Kari Marchen Anderson. I met Kari during one of my trips to Lucca in 2021. As happens in Lucca, chance meetings are the start of great friendships. Kari is from Copenhagen and speaks both Danish and English, fluently, and she is married to Bill, an American. They recently became ‘empty nesters', and rather than downsize and remain in Copenhagen, they decided to relocate to Lucca, and in the process gained their residency, which proved to be a relatively smooth transition. My guest today is Andrea Paganelli, the name probably gives away that Andrea is a native Italian. Andrea and his family own their own private driving company, Tuscan Drivers. He has a fleet of vehicles that do tours, day trips and airport runs, and this is how I first met Andrea. He collected me at Pisa airport from my flight, late at night. I was on my own, and although I had previously visited Lucca, I had no idea where my apartment was. In that position, you need punctuality, reassurance and a friendly welcome and that is exactly what I got, in spades; needless to say, Andrea and his family have become firm friends of mine in Lucca. Not only does this episode explore the intricacies of driving and parking in Lucca, it also gives an insight into Italian family life. My guest today is Sally Ramsey. Sally contacted me after listening to this podcast as she was planning to visit Lucca, and we arranged to meet up. I must say, that Lucca is the only place where I've experienced random strangers, with a love of the city, arranging to meet up and share experiences. Even though Sally is based in the USA, she and I have become really good friends. So, I was delighted when she agreed to be interviewed for this podcast when we were both in Lucca back in September 2021, as her experiences are so relevant to anyone who is hoping to visit, or increase the time they spend in Lucca, especially those of you travelling from afar. Many of you want practical advice, as you are looking to stay in Lucca for an extended period, some of you with a view to moving to Lucca on a permanent basis, some with families, some to retire.
