    Busting Your Holiday Excuses

Are you freaking out about the holidays? Afraid you'll eat your face off because that's what you do year after year? This often happens because we go into the holidays... Worried about what people will think of our home, our body, or our weight. Fearing food because we've restricted so much on a diet that we have zero practice around some of our favorite foods. Thinking some foods are "bad," and the moment we eat something we love, we start spiraling in shame (which causes you to say fuck it and wait for January 1 to get your shit together). Am I the only one sick and tired of spending the holidays in worry, shame, or defeat? Well, It doesn't have to be that way. One of the things I teach my No BS Women is they get to decide if they are going to gain, maintain or lose weight during the holidays. You heard that right. You don't have to lose weight if you don't want to. But you also don't have to go facedown in Grandma's chess pie either. This podcast is a small part of a class I taught my members. I wanted you to have it so you can feel something better than afraid, unsure, and overwhelmed during the holidays. Get the Free Course here: http://NoBSFreeCourse.com

There's something making them afraid to lose weight. When you are stuck or suffering with worry, it's a sign you got some shit lurking under the surface you need to overcome. In today's episode you'll hear... A woman stalled out in weightloss because she's so afraid of LOOSE SKIN. We talk about how I've dealt with my own loose skin issues after losing 100lbs. (It's a mindset twist nobody ever talks about.) How exercise, especially lifting weights, isn't causing weight gain (even if the scale goes up every time you start strength training). A brave woman talk about her fears around male attention as she gets smaller. This is common in trauma survivors. Basic Mistakes

I teach four simple steps to weightloss. Drink water (shoot for 64 ounces to help prevent carb and salt cravings). Get 7-9 hours of sleep (otherwise, your body can't burn fat and will store it instead). Eat when you get hungry (not just when it's time or you want to) and stop right before you're full (instead of when you feel bloated and burpy). And, make a plan of what you'll eat for the day, including foods you like (instead of hoping you'll "do good" and then eating whatever you want in the moment when you're tired and stressed). That's the bottom line of everything I teach. It's simple and makes sense. But there are a couple of mistakes I see people make all the time. In today's podcast - Episode 235: Basic Mistakes, Kathy and I talk about... What to do when you keep getting pissed you overate AGAIN (trust me, it's normal to overeat and not as big a deal as you make it). How you might be trying to blend old, restrictive diet rules with the Four Basics (leaving you feeling deprived and wondering why the Basics don't feel easy). Losing weight was one of the hardest things I've done in my life (and I've overcome depression, built my own business, and been heart-fucking-broken several times). I couldn't have done it without knowing how to keep my ass motivated. And to be motivated, I had to do things that made sense TO ME. When losing weight makes sense to you...guess what? You LOSE WEIGHT FASTER. I needed to make weightloss so easy that it was harder to give up. To quit. To use my excuses to eat. You don't need tricks, low-carb days, or fasting. You need to be CONSISTENTLY doing easy shit and doing that easy shit over and over again. BAM. Weightloss. In this podcast, I help you figure out how to make your weightloss a whole lot easier. And we'll do that by learning how you best stay motivated and learn. You'll hear me talk about... The three types of learners and why this MATTERS in weightloss. Fear of Food

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 17, 2021 43:44

I recently spent a week with 20,000 women teaching them how to take control of food. And I learned two things. One is that the diet industry has done a good job teaching us how to be terrified of food. We spend our days thinking...What if I get hungry? Thank you to all the bat shit crazy diets that convinced us eating 1200 calories a day "was good for us." And kudos to the diets that said we need to eat every 2-3 hours, tricking us into believing that the way our bodies were designed is all a big fat lie. THE TRUTH? You are designed NOT TO EAT UNTIL YOU ARE PHYSICALLY HUNGRY. Why do you think you have belly chemicals to signal hunger and satisfaction to begin with? The good Lord didn't give those to you because He was bored AF designing you. Look, you allowing hunger isn't a problem. It's what you make hungry mean that's the problem. We all make being hungry mean some fucked up shit. "I'll starve if I don't eat enough." No, you won't! You might get hungry again and just eat! But at least TEST if you need to eat as much as you THINK you do. "If I don't eat it all, not only am I "wasting" the food, but I might not get it again for a while!" Like you ain't ever gonna eat a cheeseburger again for the rest of your life? Come on. And tell me whose belly, other than yours, benefits when you overeat for fear of waste. The second thing I learned was how terrified people are they can't lose weight. And when you're afraid, you're stuck making excuses as to why you can't lose weight because you don't want to face your FEARS. We waste time thinking we don't have time, enough support, or the right conditions to lose weight. When we could be spending time thinking about why we want it, what we ARE willing to do, the things we are willing to say no to, and the reasons we might be more capable than we give ourselves credit for. In today's podcast, I talk about these two things. AND you get to listen in as I coach some people on... What to do when after being on a roll you find yourself off the rails and afraid you can't get back on track. How to know if you're trying to lose weight using "diet trauma" thinking versus losing weight from challenge and determination. This podcast talks about what it really takes to get meaningful and truly helpful support that will help you lose weight and keep it off. (I've kept my weight off for over a decade - even though my husband and son eat completely different than I do. So believe me, I get what you're going through). There's a lot of confusion about what people should and shouldn't say around us about weightloss. Not to mention how massively overwhelming it can be to have people in your life who ARE doing their best to help you but you still feel bad, unsure, and doubtful that you can lose weight. That's why I recorded this podcast and coached people live. We need now, more than ever, to learn how to get support. I talk about... Three things you can say and do TODAY to start the conversation with your loved ones about weightloss (without getting everybody worked up that you're starting another diet). Why You Can't Lose Weight (and how to fix it)

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 3, 2021 61:01

We have a lot of stories about our weight. We forget the stories are debatable because they feel true to us. Day after day, we continue to think our bullshit and it just gets more and more believable. The problem isn't that our shitty ass stories are true. The problem is we aren't CHALLENGING those stories with something equally as true. I had the busted ass thought that I could lose weight but couldn't keep it off. After 20+ diets where I lost and regained 75lbs, I could argue all day that I'd always be overweight. It never occurred to me that thinking about my failed diets was not USEFUL. It was a huge waste of my time to allow myself to feel defeated over my past. Think about it. Most of us say, "I want to feel motivated and confident," when we start to lose weight. Yet we sit around worrying about every bite we put in our mouth, wondering if this will work, and then ruminating over each failure. When I finally lost 100lbs, it had very little to do with what I ate and what I did. Hell, I was losing weight leaving mayo on cheeseburgers, swapping out a half-gallon of ice cream for a big ass bowl, and walking 15 minutes a day instead of laying on the couch thinking about how much I hated going to the gym. The things I teach you to DO in weightloss are simple. What makes them easy is learning how to drop the BS stories around food, your body, your weight, and your life that feel as true as the sky is blue. What changed most for me in weightloss was noticing when I was thinking like an asshole and deciding to think in a way that would help me. That old BS thought, "I can't keep weight off," meant I had to think something equally as true when it reared its defeating and frustrating head. I started with, "I'm figuring this out a little at a time." That was equally as true and helped me calm the F-down every day. It focused me on what I COULD do that day instead of what I probably wouldn't. In today's podcast, the first person I coach is struggling with her old shitty diet thinking that keeps coming back. I give her great questions to ask herself so that each day she's more focused on who she wants to be more than what she's afraid will happen. You'll enjoy the other callers too. We discuss if goal weight will make you happy, what causes us to feel restricted with food, and how to deal with maintaining your weight. As always, I was vulnerable and honest. 46 was a year that I grew emotionally and took time to love parts of me I've never explored. I share some powerful questions I challenged myself with. My favorite was, "How much louder would I live my life if I loved myself at every turn?" I talk about how I let go of... Needing to be busy (so I can feel important and needed). Thinking I'm lazy when I took time off (because I always thought if I was up I should be working or productive). Waiting on a perfect body to love my body. I'm sure Weight Watchers had a picture of me at the head office in honor of all my Monday morning contributions I made throughout my life. Then I heard this quote on a Peleton ride the other that stopped me in my tracks. "Purpose gets you started. Passion keeps you going." I always had a good reason to start. It was Monday. I was sick and tired of my clothes not fitting. My best-friend was starting a new workout. I wanted to finally feel good about myself. Why Weightloss Is So Hard

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 30, 2021 60:25

It's time for some straight talk. Losing weight is hard. There's a lot of behavioral changes to make. The internet is filled with endless diet plans and methods that hold the promise of a quick fix. Hell, your doctor is probably telling you to lose weight "but it'll be nearly impossible." Your whole life feels like an endless cycle of starting and stopping diets where you work so hard. You try so many different things. But nothing is sticking. Nothing feels like you can keep doing it for the long haul. Maybe you wonder, "Why can't I get started?" Or, "Why can't I just lose weight and be done?" If you're struggling to lose weight or keep it off I want you to know it's not your fault. The diets you've done in the past failed to teach you the important things. Things like how to be around your favorite foods and enjoy them (instead of being so worried you'll overeat that you either RUN in the opposite direction OR go face down in it fearing you won't get to eat it again for a long time). Or how to have a stressful day and decompress (without feeling so guilty for taking a minute for yourself that you end up taking your "break" standing in the pantry eating chips). When you don't learn how to deal with your life you end up with a lot of diets that fail at the first sign of emotional trouble. And this starts making every attempt at weightloss feel HARD. My bet is you're making at least ONE of these three mistakes when you try to lose weight. In today's podcast you'll learn what the mistakes are and three ways to make things a lot easier on you. After losing 100lbs and coaching 1000's of women for 10+ years, I hate seeing women like you struggle when there's so many ways to make things easier on you.  I believe we all can lose weight way easier than what we've been told. I want you to finally lose your weight and feel as amazing as you deserve. But you can't do it if you're overwhelmed, afraid, and constantly worried that something will go wrong. Don't worry though. In today's podcast I'm going to make things doable, easy, and teach you how to quit making things harder than they need to be.   Get the Free Course here: http://NoBSFreeCourse.com

I didn't realize how many times a day I was triggered to think, "You're so overweight," simply because I had clothes that didn't fit. Day after day I sat around punishing myself for being overweight and denying myself stylish, comfortable clothes that could help me feel like I was taking care of myself. The clothes we wear often signal how we're thinking about ourselves. And in today's podcast, I have a conversation with Judith Gaton, author of How to Be a F*cking Lady, about... How to stop putting off feeling good in your clothes until you lose weight. Her process for getting rid of your ill-fitting clothes that you are scared to let go of. Ways you can normalize the body you're in now by curating your social media feed. (What we see we tend to believe - so this part of the talk is EVERYTHING!) And, Judith coaches me on being afraid to get rid of clothes "before I get my money's worth." Yes! I keep clothes I don't even want at times and she helps me see a whole new way to think and feel. Word power, not willpower will help you lose weight. No more making ourselves do insane crap to lose weight. People ask me all the time, "What did you do to lose 100lbs?" I did a lot of things truth be told. But the things I did to lose weight would've never happened if I didn't ditch my asshole thinking around food like... You should be doing more (each day I walked for 15 minutes). This won't matter (when I was staring at a couple of chicken nuggets Logan didn't eat). You did OK today, hope you don't screw up tomorrow (instead of celebrating that I was showing up for myself). I know if I can teach you ONE THING and ONE THING only about weightloss it would be to change how you talk and think. Today's podcast is all about that. I interviewed Karen Koenig who is the author of some of my favorite books on becoming a normal eater. Her newest book "Words to Eat By" is a must-read! As Karen Koenig said in the podcast... "Self-talk is subtle but extremely powerful. It's the driver of how you show up." I totally agree and you hear me PREACH this ALL THE TIME. In the podcast we discuss: What to do when you first start listening to how you talk (because there could be some shock and awe about what you hear). What a disregulated eater is and how they have an amazing talent for saying just the wrong thing to themselves at the times they need positivity the most. The purpose of shame and its evolutionary role (this might shock you). Why hooting and hollering is a GOOD for women and especially my Binge Eaters. I know you'll love this podcast. Hate wasting food at a restaurant? Me too, but we gotta stop feeling wasteful if we're going to lose weight. I grew up poor, eating at buffets, and my momma saying, "Eat all you can because I don't know when the next meal will be." This led to a lifelong problem of overeating. I'd go out to eat. A big ass heaping of food would arrive that's tasty AF. As I ate and hit the point where I've had just enough knowing anymore and it's time to unbutton the pants, my brain lights up like a firecracker thinking... "I don't want to waste it. I need to get my money's worth." Sure I can get a to-go box but in the moment I don't want a damn box. I want another fork load of steak dipped in mashed potatoes. Then I was losing my 100lbs. I knew had to solve this. I had to learn how to stop eating and actually WANT to do it. I didn't want to just learn how to stop eating and feel bad about it. I wanted to stop eating and feel GOOD about it. I was ready to stop wasting my LIFE overeating food. Today's podcast is FOR YOU if you are ready to learn... Meal Planning for Weightloss

This is a total breakdown of how I plan food. Unless you live under a rock you know all about making a Doable Food Plan. I firmly believe that writing down what you WILL eat for the day ahead of time works. First, the version of you planning the food is looking at what you are facing that day and balancing it against what you want for yourself in a week, a month, and a year. Second, if you're like me the reason you need to lose weight is that when you're left to "figure out what to eat" or "decide what you want in the moment" your EMOTIONS are doing the talking. And often the emotions of the moment are stress, anxiety, or busted ass tired. None of those guys ever make "healthy" choices. Third, you need to quit thinking about food so fucking much! Write it down and the rest of the day think about your LIFE. Not what you are eating the next meal so you have something to look forward to. (Hint: that's a huge problem if the only joy you get is looking forward to what you'll eat.) On today's podcast, Kathy and I break down how we plan our food. We teach you... The difference between a daily plan and a weekly food plan. Yes, there's more than one way to do this and you'll learn all about picking one that works best for you. Why planning is key to your weightloss success (and how it helps you start believing in your ability to lose weight). How we do our planning. Who knows if I'll ever get my introvert partner in crime back Chris and I talked about our early days. Back when I was a hot mess emotionally and quick to get pissed to "test his love." You'll hear me talk about my big ass insecurities. I was so ashamed of my body, scared to death he wouldn't like me naked and convinced that I didn't deserve such a good man. As much as I loved him I felt someone like me, a big girl, wasn't suppose to have a good man in her life. I had such a self-concept and was convinced I was destined to be with douchebags who cheated on me. Let's just say, I did a lot to test his love so I could convince myself he wasn't going anywhere. Yep, I talk about this in the podcast as shameful as it felt to admit it. But, this podcast was special because there was one thing I discovered while talking to Chris. He has always loved me for who I am. He has always seen me at my fullest potential before I could see it. And most importantly he has always been willing to believe one day I would see it, too. Chris has always loved me even when I find it hard to love myself. Doing this podcast reminded me how important it is that we don't get lost in our own insecurities, that we miss out on all the love surrounding us. Get the Free Course here: NoBSFreeCourse.com
