Welcome back to the "Compared to Who?" podcast! In today’s episode, host Heather Creekmore continues the Waiting for Weight Loss series, taking us through the third "exhale": Establishing Your Purpose. Episode Highlights: Heather Creekmore gets real about her longtime struggle with believing that she needed to “fix” her body before stepping into her God-given purpose. She addresses the misconception that physical appearance is necessary for spiritual effectiveness, referencing Biblical truths and reflecting on Jesus’ own earthly life. Do you ever feel like your body is an accident or a barrier to God’s plans? Heather dives deep into the theological roots of these beliefs and encourages listeners to release them. Discover why God intentionally created your body for HIS purposes—not your goal weight, not your own timeline—and how the idea of stewardship is often misunderstood. Real talk about shifting your focus: from waiting for weight loss to living out your calling, right now. Listen for practical encouragement: Heather leads a breathing exercise to help you exhale the pressure and inhale purpose. Key Takeaways: God’s purpose for your life is not on hold until you hit a certain weight or achieve a certain look. Your body was intentionally crafted, and you can embrace your calling today. Stewardship of your body matters, but it shouldn’t overshadow all other gifts and stewardship principles—in fact, there’s no direct Biblical command to be a “good steward” of your body above all else. The more you step into your purpose and gifting, the more you’ll find peace with your body image. Join the Community! What stood out to you in today’s episode? Has waiting for weight loss ever made you put off something God is asking you to do? Share your story and join the conversation with others who are also letting go of the wait. Nutrition Nugget! Bite-sized bonus episodes offer tips, tricks and approachable science. This week, Jenn is talking about zero-calorie drinks and whether they are really the guilt-free option we have been led to believe. A well-known Copenhagen study compared four groups of people who drank a liter a day of regular soda, diet soda, milk, or water for six months, and the results were surprising enough to stop anyone mid-sip. Could a beverage with absolutely no calories still be working against your blood sugar, waistline and your metabolism? What do your gut, your pancreas, and even your taste buds have to do with it? Jenn digs into the science, questions the study's details, and shares what she has seen play out in real life with herself and her clients for years. But before you toss your diet soda or defend it to the end, you should hear what Jenn has to say about who this affects, why, and whether the calorie count on the label is telling you anywhere near the whole story. When men get sick with a cold or the flu, do they actually suffer more than women — or just complain louder? Some fascinating research suggests there may be real biological differences in immune response between the sexes, which could explain the infamous “man cold.” I break down what scientists have discovered and what it really means. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29229663/ Picky eating feels normal today — separate meals for kids at the dinner table is often the norm. But it wasn't always this way. For most of history, children ate what adults ate or they didn't eat at all. Helen Zoe Veit, award-winning historian, associate professor at Michigan State University, and author of Picky: How American Children Became the Fussiest Eaters in History (https://amzn.to/3OolXKY) explains how and why picky eating became so common, the serious problems it creates — and why it doesn't have to be that way. Will artificial intelligence make us intellectually lazy — or is it about to unleash a new wave of human potential? Zack Kass, one of OpenAI's first 100 employees and author of The Next Renaissance: AI and the Expansion of Human Potential (https://amzn.to/3MoYM2I) argues that tools like ChatGPT are only scratching the surface. He explains why AI may not replace human thinking but amplify it — if we use it wisely. People form powerful judgments about you within seconds of seeing your online profile photo. This episode kicks off with dramatic global headlines, celebrity chaos, and major reality‑TV shakeups. The team breaks down the deadly confrontation between a Florida‑registered speedboat and the Cuban Coast Guard, a shootout that left four people dead and six injured. Cuban authorities allege the boat’s occupants—armed Cuban nationals living in the U.S.—opened fire first and were attempting a “terrorist infiltration,” prompting an international investigation and heightened political tension. The crew then dives into the explosive report that Cardi B allegedly flipped out backstage at SNL, destroying equipment after overhearing a joke referencing Nicki Minaj’s MAGA affiliation during rehearsals for the show’s 1,000th episode. Though the joke never aired, outlets report she threw her phone, punched a screen, and threatened to walk out before performing. Reality‑TV fans get big news as Pinky Cole and K. Michelle officially join The Real Housewives of Atlanta for Season 17, with Bravo signaling a major franchise reset. Cole enters with her Slutty Vegan empire storyline, while K. Michelle brings music‑industry pressure, a bold personality, and a shift into country music—all expected to shake up the cast dynamic. You can't outrun a bad diet—but it turns out you might not even be able to outrun a good one. In this episode of A Whole New Level, evolutionary anthropologist Dr. Herman Pontzer joins Mike Haney to dismantle the "armchair view" of metabolism and explain why more exercise doesn't necessarily mean more calories burned.Drawing on his groundbreaking research with the Hadza hunter-gatherer community and global meta-analyses, Dr. Pontzer explains the Constrained Energy Model: the phenomenon where our bodies hit a metabolic ceiling and begin "trading off" energy from vital systems like immunity and reproduction to account for physical activity. This conversation reframes weight loss not as a simple math problem of "calories in vs. calories out," but as a dynamic, evolutionary balancing act.Sign Up to Get Your Free Ultimate Guide to Glucose: https://levels.link/wnlIn this episode, we cover:The Myth of Additive Energy: Why adding a 300-calorie run to your day doesn't actually result in 300 extra calories burned over the long term. The Hadza Paradox: How hunter-gatherers who walk miles every day burn the same amount of total energy as sedentary Westerners.Metabolic Trading: How your body "pays" for exercise by dialing down inflammation, stress responses, and reproductive hormones. The Business of the Body: Why the human body acts less like a simple machine and more like a corporation reallocating a limited budget. The "Set Point" Debate: Whether our bodies are tracking pounds on a scale or the flow of energy in the gut.Practical Weight Management: Why diet is the primary tool for weight, while exercise is the primary tool for everything else.

Welcome back to the Compared to Who? podcast and our ongoing series, Waiting for Weight Loss. In today’s episode, Heather Creekmore shares a powerful story about a time when her identity—literally—was stolen, setting the stage for an honest discussion about our true identity in Christ. Episode Highlights: Heather Creekmore opens up with a personal experience of being mugged and losing her physical identification, making the connection to how many of us “lose” our spiritual identity while chasing the approval of others or pursuing body goals. She asks: Has your identity been stolen—figuratively—by misplaced priorities, societal pressures, or the pursuit of weight loss? We explore the idea that any identity outside of Christ is a “fake ID,” and discuss what it means to rest in our adoption as daughters (and sons) of God. Heather Creekmore unpacks how our attempts to earn love and acceptance through appearance or achievements are distractions from the Gospel. The healthiest approach to weight loss and goals? Pursuing them from a place of already being fully loved and accepted, not from a place of insecurity or striving to earn worth. Reflection Questions: What “fake IDs” have you been carrying? How would your approach to your body and your goals change if you truly believed your identity was already secure in Christ? Check out Episode on Boasting Here Join the Community!Join the conversation! Heather Creekmore invites you to become part of our supportive community at waitingforweightloss.com. Share your story, connect with others, and discover what it means to pursue your goals from a place of true security and love. You might not be stuck because you're doing too little. You might be stuck because your effort is scattered. When progress feels slow or uncertain, it's tempting to zoom in on details and start tweaking. But productive and effective are not always the same thing. And in this episode, I break down what actually drives results in weight loss, strength training, habit change, burnout, and confidence. Listen in this week to hear why we get pulled toward things that feel controllable or impressive, like macro splits, perfect programs, better planners, or waiting to feel motivated, and why those aren't the real drivers of change. You'll also learn how to simplify your approach, where to redirect your energy, and why repetition and consistency outperform intensity and optimization over time. Thriving through Menopause with Fitness, Fat Loss and a Focused Mind
Are you bone-tired… even though you're eating "healthy" and doing all the things? If you're trying to lose weight in midlife but feel foggy, cold, exhausted, and stuck, this conversation is for you. Because low energy after 50 isn't always a motivation problem. And it's not always a sleep problem either. Often, it's a signaling problem. In this episode, I'm breaking down how strategic fueling impacts hormone imbalance, thyroid function, and insulin sensitivity for weight loss. We'll talk about why chronically under-eating or going too low carb can actually slow your metabolism, raise cortisol, and make it harder to lose weight — especially in perimenopause and menopause. You'll learn how high-protein meals paired with strategic carbohydrates can support thyroid conversion, steady blood sugar, and restore energy so your body feels safe enough to burn fat again. This isn't about eating junk carbs. It's about fueling wisely — in a way that supports your hormones and your midlife metabolism. If you're ready to stop restricting and start fueling for energy and fat loss, press play. And if you want support applying this inside a simple Trim Healthy framework, come join us inside my free Facebook community. FULL BLOG + SHOW NOTES Read the full post:

Novo Nordisk announced on Tuesday that it plans to cut the list prices of its blockbuster weight-loss and diabetes drugs Ozempic and Wegovy by up to fifty percent starting January first, twenty twenty-seven. The Danish company stated that various doses of these medications, which contain the active ingredient semaglutide, will drop to six hundred seventy-five dollars per month. This represents a fifty percent reduction for Wegovy and a thirty-five percent cut for Ozempic, with the same price applying to Rybelsus pills. Fox Business reports that Novo Nordisk executive Jamey Millar explained the move aims to help more than one hundred million Americans with obesity and thirty-five million with type two diabetes by lowering out-of-pocket costs, especially for those on high-deductible health plans. CBS News notes this comes amid fierce competition from rivals like Eli Lillys Mounjaro and Zepbound, as well as cheaper compounded versions from telehealth providers. The price slash will align with lower Medicare rates for older Americans but will not affect direct-to-consumer prices, where Wegovy already sells for three hundred forty-nine dollars. In related news, Oprah Winfrey has shared fresh insights on her use of GLP-one medications like those in the Ozempic family. In a recent NBC Connecticut discussion tied to her book Enough, co-authored with Yale Obesity Research Center director Doctor Ania M. Jastreboff, Winfrey reflected on stopping the shots cold turkey on her seventieth birthday in January twenty twenty-four after gaining clarity that obesity drives overeating due to the bodys enough point, a genetically influenced weight set point. She tried maintaining her loss through diet and exercise alone but regained twenty pounds over twelve months, realizing these drugs are a lifelong tool, much like blood pressure medication. Doctor Jastreboff emphasized in the interview that the medications recalibrate this enough point in the brain, reducing hunger signals and fat storage, countering the bodys drive to regain weight. Winfrey, who pays out of pocket for friends unable to afford the shots, urges ending shame around obesity, calling it a disease not a personal failing. She stresses combining drugs with healthy habits for sustainable health, not just looks. These developments highlight growing accessibility and realism around GLP-one drugs amid evolving expert views. Thanks for tuning in, listeners, please subscribe, come back next week for more, and remember this episode was brought to you by Quiet Please podcast networks. Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs have had a major impact in their short time on the market—currently, one in eight Americans say that they have been on GLP-1 drugs. As tens of millions of people take these medications, anecdotal evidence has emerged that they have a positive effect on alcohol abuse and drug addiction. Researchers are starting to run trials of the drugs for these purposes, and some speculate that GLP-1 drugs could even affect addiction behaviors such as gambling and online shopping. The physician and New Yorker medical correspondent Dhruv Khullar spoke with scientists and patients. “Over the course of my reporting,” he tells David Remnick, “I became more and more bullish on the idea that these are actually going to be really important molecules for the treatment of addiction.” Dhruv Khullar's “Can Ozempic Cure Addiction?” was published on February 9th. New episodes of The New Yorker Radio Hour drop every Tuesday and Friday. Join host David Remnick as he discusses the latest in politics, news, and current events in conversation with political leaders, newsmakers, innovators, New Yorker staff writers, authors, actors, and musicians.

Midlife weight loss can feel impossible — especially when you're doing "everything right" and your labs look normal. In this episode, Erica sits down with Shay Pascale to break down what actually drives sustainable body composition in midlife: muscle-centric nutrition, progressive strength training, reverse dieting for under-eaters, gut testing when nothing works, and a balanced conversation about GLP-1s. Let's talk about the phrase you see alllll over social media: calories in, calories out.According to the internet, it's the *only* thing that matters. Just “eat less, move more,” and BOOM - problem solved. But…there's a WHOLE lot of “fine print” that gets skipped over here. If you've ever felt like CICO “doesn't work” for you, this episode is going to clear it up!Yes, calories in, calories out IS the foundation, but there is sooo much that influences those calories. Factors like hormones, stress, sleep, perimenopause, thyroid issues, insulin resistance, medications, and more ALL play a part! Calories in, calories out is absolutely real - it's the basis of every fat loss strategy out there. However, it's NEVER going to be *just* your calorie intake that will lead you to reach your fitness goals.Make sure you're using a smarter plan, and actually follow it - not your mood. That alone will help you greatly, friend!Episode recap:Why calories in, calories out is the foundation for fat lossWhy CICO is real (but it's not the whole story)3 reasons why the scale probably isn't movingWhy undereating doesn't help w/fat loss (it actually makes it harder)4 non-negotiables to “lock in” before you change everything elseHow to simplify your plan + honestly look at your outputMaking ONE change at a time + giving it time to workWhy CICO can work for you, but you need a smarter approach Links/Resources:Ep. 229 | What Training Volume & Intensity Actually MeanGrab your FREE Body Recomp Meal Prep and get the UFYF NewsletterListen to the Girls with Opinions PodcastJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymPRIVATE COACHING is my 1:1 program (choose 3 or 6 month option)Connect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcast so we can keep this conversation going-be sure to tag me in your posts and stories!Join my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! On a freezing morning, it feels smart to let your car idle and warm up before driving off. But is it? Modern engines aren't built the way they used to be. In fact, letting your car sit and idle too long may not be doing what you think it is. This episode begins with what actually happens under the hood — and how long you really should wait before you hit the gas and go. https://www.mensjournal.com/gear/stop-idling-like-its-1985-warm-up-your-car-right There are few communication situations more intense than when a Secret Service agent speaks with someone who has threatened the President of the United States. In those moments, connection, trust, and careful listening aren't just helpful — they're critical. Brad Beeler developed his communication skills in those exact circumstances and shares how anyone can apply those same techniques to everyday conversations. Brad served in many roles at the Secret Service including on the protection detail for President George H.W. Bush. He is author of Tell Me Everything: A Secret Service Agent's Proven Strategies for Earning Trust, Revealing the Truth, and Communicating with Anyone (https://amzn.to/3M5YlKy). Designing a meaningful life may not be about discovering your one true calling or waiting for passion to strike. What if finding meaning is something you build through experimentation — by testing ideas, adjusting course, and learning from experience? Bill Burnett explains how “design thinking” can be applied to life itself. He is executive director of the Stanford Life Design Lab, founder of the Designing Your Life Institute, and co-author of How to Live a Meaningful Life: Using Design Thinking to Unlock Purpose, Joy, and Flow Every Day. In this episode of Compared to Who?, Heather Creekmore invites listeners to take a deeply-needed exhale from the relentless messages around body image and self-worth that the world sends our way. Building on the "Waiting for Weight Loss" series, Heather opens up about her own struggles with feeling valuable through fitness and body changes, and the letdown that follows when external goals don’t bring the internal peace we’re promised. Heather dives into the concept of "monetized insecurity"—the way industries profit from our feelings of inadequacy—and breaks down why finding your worth in God, not in weight loss or body perfection, is the only path that leads to real security and rest. You’ll walk away with: Practical breathwork exercises for grounding and relaxation A guided prayer for internalizing your true value An honest look at cultural lies vs. God’s unchanging truth about your worth Reflective questions to revisit whenever you need a reminder that you are already loved, worthy, and enough Key Question: Whose message is easier for you to believe: monetized insecurity or God's message of worth beyond what you measure? If you've ever felt like your body is fighting you no matter how “perfect” your nutrition or workouts are, this episode will feel like a deep exhale. Today, I'm sitting down with Soraya Rufener, one of our coaches at Vital Spark, to share the story behind the safety, trust, and results her clients feel from day one. Soraya isn't just highly credentialed as a registered nurse and functional health coach. She's lived through chronic dieting, body distrust, and the exhausting pressure to always “do more.” She started dieting at 13, spent years stuck in restriction cycles, and did everything diet culture promised would work. And yet, nothing was actually healing. In this conversation, we unpack why willpower wasn't the problem, how postpartum healing changed everything, and what rebuilding a body really requires physically, mentally, and emotionally. Soraya shares the moment she stopped punishing her body and learned how to support it instead. We talk about why healing is layered, why consistency matters more than intensity, and how nervous system safety changes outcomes. She also opens up about how her lived experience reshaped the way she coaches postpartum moms and high-achieving women today. Most importantly, we explore what she refuses to repeat from diet culture—and why coaching women differently matters. If you're exhausted, frustrated, or quietly wondering why nothing seems to work anymore, this episode will remind you that you're not broken. You're unsupported. Send a textHow the body's internal circadian clocks regulate metabolism, energy balance, and health.TOPICS DISCUSSED:Master circadian clock in the brain: Light detection via retina entrains the suprachiasmatic nucleus, which coordinates body-wide rhythms; intrinsic period slightly deviates from 24 hours, allowing seasonal flexibility.Peripheral clocks in organs: Nearly all cells have autonomous clocks; liver and fat clocks rapidly adjust to feeding time, while brain clock aligns more tightly to light.Clock mutations and metabolism: Disrupting core clock genes (e.g., CLOCK, BMAL1) causes obesity, liver fat accumulation, and impaired insulin secretion without hyperinsulinemia.Timing of food intake: Eating the same high-fat calories during rest phase causes more weight gain than during active phase due to differences in energy dissipation.Modern disruptions (jet lag, shift work, blue light): Create desynchrony between brain and peripheral clocks, contributing to metabolic issues; late-night eating impairs glucose handling.Critical illness & feeding: Tube feeding at night (opposite natural cycle) induces rapid insulin resistance, highlighting mismatch costs.Hormone rhythms: Testosterone, glucocorticoids, and others peak at specific times; misalignment affects stress, reproduction, and metabolism.Weight loss drugs & maintenance: GLP-1 drugs reduce intake effectively, but regain involves neuroendocrine adaptations tied to brain clock pathways.ABOUT THE GUEST: Joseph Bass, MD, PhD is Chief of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Molecular Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Director of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolism, and a leading researcher who pioneered the link between circadian clock genes and metabolic disorders including obesity and diabetes.RELATED EPISODE:M&M 237 | Circadian Biology: Genetics, Behavior, Metabolism, Light, Oxygen & Melatonin | Joseph TakahashiSupport the showHealth Products by M&M Partners: SporesMD: Premium mushrooms products (gourmet mushrooms, nootropics, research). Body language sends signals we're often unaware of — and apparently, that includes your belly button. Where it points can subtly communicate interest, attention, and even attraction. This episode begins with the surprising message your belly button may be sending — and what you might be picking up from others without realizing it. Source: Janine Driver author of You Say More Than You Think (https://amzn.to/3SPYVwt). Have you ever eaten when you weren't hungry… or kept eating even though you were already full — and then wondered why you did that? Most people assume it's about willpower. It isn't. Dr. Jud Brewer explains what's really driving those urges and how to break the cycle without dieting, restriction, or guilt. He's a professor at Brown University's School of Public Health and author of The Hunger Habit: Why We Eat When We're Not Hungry and How to Stop. His work reveals how to stop fighting food — and actually enjoy it more (https://amzn.to/49sbiEw). The App is called "Eat Right Now" and is available wherever you get your apps. We like to believe we're good at predicting the future — our careers, relationships, finances, and even how we'll feel. But humans are notoriously bad at understanding randomness, coincidence, and probability. Why do coincidences seem so meaningful? Why does randomness never look random? And how does this distort the predictions we make about our own lives? Kit Yates joins me to unpack the science behind prediction — and when it's smarter not to predict at all. He's author of How to Expect the Unexpected: The Science of Making Predictions—and the Art of Knowing When Not To (https://amzn.to/3Ur3PRM).
