We re-watched this cult classic from 1999 and we're so pleased to report it's WAY better than we remembered, but then again, I was 15 when I watched it and understood so little about the story. This 1996 horror movie COMPLETELY resuscitated the slasher genre, reignited Wes Craven's career, and introduced screenwriter Kevin Williamson (Scream 2, Scream 3, I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Cursed)! It's also responsible for injecting the 'Who's the killer' trope back into horror as well as using humor to breathe humanity into the story's characters. Also it's BRUTAL even by today's standards. Also Scream 1-4 are all streaming on MAX! Can you tell we love this movie? Music composer and fellow scary movie buddy CJ Johnson joins me to help break it all down!

I have a wife and she has taken over the podcast tonight! She likes movies (almost as much) as I do, and we share many similar tastes in movies. The biggest difference is that she is way smarter than I am, and makes observations I sometimes miss. She has listened to our podcast for years has noticed our consistent lack of female perspective in the studio and the deficiency of strong female leads in the movies we choose. The Devil Wears Prada is a COMEDY and arguably the best movie from 2006. This movie was initially very strongly received, but was also vastly different than many movies like it. Set in a popular fashion house, this isn’t really a movie about fashion. With a cast and of mostly women, they use story and character development to show us real life world problems without relying on the same tired ‘girl problems’ used in countless other Rom-Coms (which this isn’t). 2006 gave us titles like The Departed, Superman Returns, Borat, Mission Impossible 3, Apocalypto, 300, and way more. There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of these, in fact, many of great, great movies. The point is that we were in dire need of a cleverly fresh story with some genuine feminine perspective. This is Ana’s chosen vessel of voyage, so come aboard, because Ana’s taking me to school for our first ever 100% impromptu podcast episode! The other (and last) noteworthy comment is that this movie is fun to watch if you’re familiar with the fashion subtext of the movie, but it’s a BLAST to watch if you know NOTHING about fashion at all!

Well it's ladies night here at Movie Show Theater because our guest, Sam Ball (actor and writer), chose You've Got Mail from 1998. Join us as we discuss cybersex, America Online, Steve Zahn, and more forgotten relics from the 90's (was that mean?) We also felt to the need for some 90's reminiscing, as well as some 90's trivia. You've Got Mail was a charming Nora Ephron film with Tom Hanks as a .. kind of manipulative sociopath.. so to speak. The second time this story has been remade, we found some noteworthy moments this time around. You've Got Mail serves as our vessel into looking at the evolution of the romantic comedy, and why movies like this just can't exist anymore. Thanks for listening and thanks for supporting us!

Oh my God, it's Flight of the Navigator! Sam Ball joined me to revisit this classic hoping it stands the test of time. And... it for sure holds up! The story was, dare I say, ahead of its time, and there is so much content purely designed for adults. Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens credited as Paul Mall) voices MAX, the only slightly creepy robot alien from the planet Phaelon. Sam and I watched this together, and we both agree that this piece of 80's nostalgia is like peering into a wholesome time capsule of cheesy goodness, but we're about to look a lot deeper and explore some things we totally missed as ten year old nerds. Join us and step back into a time when we all had a little more imagination. This is Movie Show Theater! And hey, thanks!

So this movie is too substantial to watch and walk away from, so here we are. This is my first podcast from Chicago, and my last one before things get really interesting. This movie rings loudly with symbolic forces that can blow a mind. The director of Gravity, Y Tu Mama Tambien, and Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban comes a brutally ultra realistic look into one possible future. Thanks for listening to us!

This week I watched Jon Favreau's Jungle Book reboot and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so here is a mini episode about both. Before the internet craps on the new Star Wars movie, I wanted to speak my peace, in a spoiler free sort of way. Thanks for listening and supporting Movie Show Theater!

I'm happy to report that The Guest was not universally appreciated among the crew. The Guest is everything and nothing you've ever seen. I was afraid this might be the case, because The Guest does not fit into a traditional genre. This was written and directed by the same two dudes that brought us You're Next (which I also loved). I believe this was intended to be taken as a parody or satire of action, thriller, and horror all throw into one disjointed looking movie, lead by an INTENSELY 80's style synthesizer soundtrack. Ben & Stu strongly disagreed with my take-away. They both thought Wingard missed his mark. If you haven't seen The Guest, it's on Netflix and it's A LOT of fun. Speaking of fun, we also serve up some trivia with a new game. Thanks for listening to Movie Show Theater!

Can't quite accept that Halloween 2016 is over? We have you covered! That's why we put this episode up today and not yesterday! We did it for you and NOT because there was a sound issue on the track I didn't know about until this afternoon. Anyway, Ben is bringing home the fun along with Dakota Kuhlman of Exit Reality Entertainment & Zack Worrent of B List Bastard. We talk about the classic blue zombies from Dawn of the Dead (1978) and the significance his original trilogy had on film & society. There's a lot we covered, including the last horror movie we watched & our top 3 (current) favorites of all time. Thanks for supporting us as always, and... Happy Halloween... again!

This is most fun I've had in quite some time. I invited some friends over to help me with our Halloween Episode. Zack Worrent hosts the webseries B List Bastards, as well as Geeks & A Phone podcast. Dakota Kuhlman is a fellow filmmaker and horror enthusiast. We looked at so many films tonight, I don't even know where to start. We agree, we disagree, we revel in horror movies! Check it out, and I promise you'll walk away with a few great movies to add to your Netflix queue! Thanks for supporting Movie Show Theater!

This is one of the most influential films I've ever freaking seen! The whole 'band of normal people teaming up to fight the greater cause' started with Seven Samurai. It is George Lucas' favorite film, and ranks as the 20th greatest film ever made (according to Entertainment Weekly). It is 3.5 hours long, I won't lie, but it is a very worthy endeavor. From its conception to editing to cinematography, this film is historically and socially significant. We brought in a fellow filmmaker to help us with this one. We also have some trivia, and random movie chat, as usual. Thanks for supporting Movie Show Theater!

Well... Ben picked Hairspray so we had to watch it. What were we supposed to do? It's not that we (as 3 dudes) don't like or appreciate musicals (I was a theater kid), but this one is just so... John Waters. Before getting into THAT, let's play some trivia!! I chose some, Ben chose some, and I came up with a new game that I don't have a name for yet. Let's call it... As The Plot Thickens. I also extend a Halloween movie challenge that was extended to me, and of course, we also touch on the never ending battle between Marvel & DC. Thanks for your support and thanks for listening to Movie Show Theater!

Well we had to do it. The news of Gene Wilder's passing was pretty crushing. He survived 'the business' for over 50 years, and he set the bar high for everyone who thinks they are funny. After much discussion, we landed on Blazing Saddles to serve as our vessel for remembering a legend, and honoring a true legend. And.. uh.. it gets lighter from here. Today comes from a slightly different angle as I take a plunge into the unknown depths of solo podcasting. And there's never been a better vessel than one of favorite films of all time, as I've seen it at least twenty times. Is that weird? Is that unnecessary? Probably yes, but there's so much here to appreciate. Especially considering I am NOT a Adam Sandler fan. Like, at all. I tried watching The Do Over, just for funzies. No fun was had, but Punch Drunk Love is so endearing, fascinating, and fun to watch. Paul Thomas Anderson directed this just before starting on There Will Be Blood, so this didn't get a whole lot of attention. However, Adam Sandler DID receive a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, and I say well deserved. The story is great, but the music and color tell a different story just below the surface. If you've never seen it, get a hold of me and I will find a (free and legal) way to get you to it. It's THAT important to me. The story, cinematography, and especially the score by Jon Brion make this movie one of my absolute favorite films that I can truly watch at any time. Maybe you agree? Thanks for listening to Movie Show Theater!

Ever seen this movie?! If not, you really really should. Watch it because it is a movie going experience like no other. If you don't understand how a movie can be so bad that it's good, than this movie is for you. Tommy Wiseau, a true man of mystery, spent six million dollars on this film's production. We discuss some of the lesser known facts and mythology about The Room, as well as a special guest who recently went to a midnight showing of The Room. Love it or hate it, you have never seen a movie like The Room. Thanks for listening!
