Movie producers Steve Cohen and Paula Froehle return to talk about Doc10, their documentary festival that starts May 19 at the Davis Theater and the Gene Siskel Theater. This year's festival opens with The Janes, about the underground network that helped women get access to safe abortions in the days before Roe. Obviously, it's more relevant than ever. Also, there's Ron Howard's documentary and...well, let Steve & Paula tell the story.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Katy Conrad, a female rookie detective has her life upended by events surrounding her father. Her desire to get to the truth, takes her on a journey of unresolved crimes that lead back to family she never knew existed. Support the Show! Be sure to #FillTheFedora on Patreon. Case Profile for Conrad Series It was a night very different from other nights in Chicago. A local theater in Lincoln Square, The Davis Theater, saw TV & Film stars converge to gaze at their work in a TV Pilot, Conrad. This TV Pilot is not yet picked up by a network but the fact that the evening was even happening is a story all on its own. See most TV Pilots are green lit by major studios or development houses. Conrad however was crafted from just a 2 page demo reel script written by one of the shows co-creators Ryan Atkins. Applying to play the part of the female detective in this two page script Jennifer Karum asked if she could take this 2 page concept home to turn it into the Conrad story presented before us today. Jennifer and Ryan have leveraged their connections, finances and sure will to get Conrad created, shot and now at a place where it was ready to be shown to the public at the Chicago premiere screening. Conrad stars Eric Roberts playing the father Michael Conrad, a Police Chief in his own precinct. Jennifer Karum as Katy Conrad, an aspiring police worker looking to make detective. The Blacklist's Harry Lennix as Detective Don Brewer and Hisham Tawfiq playing Officer Dan Nack. Produced and Directed by Kelly Tidmore, Conrad revolves around dark themes like human trafficking and what it takes to truly find out out the truth. In this special episode your very own Aaron Peterson sits down with Ryan, Jennifer, Eric, Harry, and Hisham to dish all things Conrad as well as some life lessons from Eric, Acting History from Harry, and the one thing Hisham wishes he could tell Blacklist fans. After the interviews if you stick around, we have the full Q&A panel from after the screening of the pilot. Be sure to let us know what you thought of this special episode and Let us know if you are interested in seeing Conrad? Visit our feedback page to leave a response or call +1 (304) 837-2278. The Music of Conrad We always feature the music on The Blacklist so staying true to form you can hear some amazing tracks in the Conrad Series. Rob "Diggy" Morrison gives us 10 pulse driving tracks on the official soundtrack for the pilot. Keaton Simons rounds out the album with an 11th track titled "Lift Me Up" providing a little bit of soul funk to break up the darker tone of the rest of the album. You can't hear the Conrad Songs yet on a streaming service but you can always hear Keaton Simons on Spotify as well as the playlist for The Blacklist or the same playlist recreated by us on Apple Music. Last week, we at The Spool covered Chicago's small-but-mighty documentary film festival Doc10, a weekend-long paean to the joys of independent documentary filmmaking at the Davis Theater in my neighborhood of Lincoln Square. (Check out our other coverage - including dispatches on nearly every film that played at the fest - here.) Two of the documentaries showing at the fest - immigration doc The Infiltrators and AOC-led political profile Knock Down the House - come courtesy of Wavelength Productions, an independent outfit just a few years old focused on telling "great f***king stories." During the festival, Wavelength president/executive producer Jenifer Westphal and producer Joe Plummer stopped by the studio to talk about their precipitous rise with last year's doc darling Won't You Be My Neighbor?, the docs playing at the fest, and what they look for in a 'great f**king story.' (Stay tuned after the outro for an outtake from the interview, including a special appearance from The Spool's most valuable - and furry - staff member, Bobbie.) (More of a Comment, Really… is a proud member of the Chicago Podcast Coop. Thanks to Cards Against Humanity for sponsoring this episode!)
Joe Frank was searching for something. Call it how people dealt with key emotions like anger, fear, loneliness, and resentment. Call it the meaning of life. But for 3 decades he took that search and poured it into scripts, and recordings, and tape loops that he turned into 1-hour radio programs that defy description.Chicago filmmaker D.P. Carlson spent years chasing the elusive and enigmatic Frank, his friends, colleagues, and some famous creative people who are deeply influenced by his work. The result is “Joe Frank: Somewhere Out There”. It gets its Chicago premiere at the Davis Theater in Lincoln Square on March 24th. An additional screening will be held at the Wilmette Theater in Wilmette on Saturday March 30th.

Welcome back to the show! Today, we're going to the Davis Theater (4614 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago) for the Middle Coast Film Festival! We got a look behind the scenes and got to talk to John Schorg, the chairman of the festival. John discussed the importance of short films, and why they have so much to offer us. We also sat down with Melissa Fitzsimmons, the program director for the Middle Coast Film Festival, to get an idea of the amount of footwork involved in this massive undertaking, including screening HUNDREDS of film submissions. We also talked to a handful of filmmakers from all over the country (also Canada) here this weekend to showcase their films. 1. Karson Pilote- writer and director of The Heart of the Blackhawks. This documentary chronicles his grandfather's life and career playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. 2. Writer Ben Hammond, director Shawn McDaniel, and cinematographer Mark Stabeline sit down to talk about My Death Co, a darkly funny web series about confronting death, life, love, and everything in between. They are premiering their 2nd episode tonight, but their first is currently available to stream at www.mydeathco.com 3. Averland DeCourse, Brandon Coleman, and cinematographer Sayyid talked to me about their film, Identity: Absolutely Present. We discussed their many influences from Spike Lee and Ryan Coogler to camera techniques made famous by Alfred Hitchcock. 4. Jaffe Zin sat down with me to talk about his latest feature film, Children. He described Children as a sort of existential Christian horror film, so obviously, I wanted to know more. He talks about the big differences between Children and his last feature film, Happy Valley. You can check out middlecoastfest.com for the whole lineup, or just head down there NOW and check out some seriously incredible films. This was recorded live in a noisy room, so be warned. But please suffer through the inferior quality, because I had a great time with these folks, and they absolutely have something to say. And thanks for supporting Movie Show Theater!

Thanks for tuning in Subject:CINEMA, now in our SEVENTH Year of podcast fun....(gasp!) THIS WEEK: SCREEN SCREAMS 2012 road trip concludes with our trip to that bastion of American life - the Summer Camp! It's been a Murphy's Law weekend around here, with computer and equipment problems and Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the east coast, so we had to scuttle our last SS show on Salem Massachusetts - watch for it in the future. Also, our planned Micro Focus triple threat shows may be postponed or cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy issues. also this week - Email, a trip to see BIRDEMIC with the Rifftrax crew, and our review of SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS! ERRATA - One of the segments of this week's show deals with Summer Camp Nightmare 2: Unhappy Campers . On a recent Cavebabble episode devoted to this movie, it was mentioned in JEST that Valerie Hartman-Lyon was the same Valerie Hartman who appeared in the film. She is NOT - I totally missed the disclaimer on this during the show...but it was nice to think we had a movie star in the family for a few weeks...but also nice to find out she was NOT in this piece of dreck. Thanks for tuning in Subject:CINEMA, now beginning our SEVENTH Year of podcast fun.... THIS WEEK: We have never done a show like this before and hopefully we will never have to again. This week's show is a sometimes soul-wrenching look at the Aurora CO shootings that happened on 7/20/12. It is politically incorrect, and we're going to go at it in a no holds barred attitude, from the facts we know about the shootings and the people involved - shooter and victims - to our feelings about politicizing the event. Segment one is presented with no bumpers and may be offensive to some people in various ways - language, beliefs, political affiliations, etc. Be aware of the fact that when you listen to this, you are getting our raw feelings about what has transpired over the past 48 hours. LISTENER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.also, our full reviews of "BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD", "CAROL CHANNING: LARGER THAN LIFE" and the film everyone has been waiting for, "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" Check out Subject:CINEMA's brand new spinoff, Subject:CINEMA MICRO Focus, every Thursday evening, 9 PM ET US!
