(Double sigh) Enjoy our chat, including but not limited to one of the most scattered plots we've ever had to slash up, how much we do in fact love our girls Jennifer Love and Brandy, as well as a lil' bit about the latest in the franchise (yes, there are lots of spoilers so listen at your own risk!) “Benson… Ben's Son!” We're wrapping up our Double Feature Summer and closing it out with some bangers! We watched “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and the brand-spanking new “Legacy-quel” (also titled) “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (2025) with dear friend of the podcast, the always spooky, Ashley Casseday from “Keep it Weird”. We've decided, “I Still Know” might just be superior to the original (sorry kids). Jennifer Love Hewitt (Love to you and me) is back as the ever flustered Julie James, but this time she has her cool roommate Karla played by the icon Brandy in tow. We're off to the Bahamas for a stay at an empty hotel in the middle of the rainy season. This movie is truly wild, and for many years was the end of our dear Julie James' story - until the sequel/re-quel/legacyquel still in theaters, “I Know What You Did Last Summer” . Listen, for a movie that does not need to exist, we had a pretty good time. It's not solving the world's problems, but at least it had some cute lines, some cute actors, and the return of our girl Love, our buddy Freddie Prinze Jr., as Ray, and a couple of surprises. You know us crazy kids, we are spilling spoilers like nobody's business, but hey, we give you a heads up when the spoilers start to roll. Get ready, kids, the Hook Man? The Fisherman? Ben Willis? The scary guy in the raincoat, and the hook is back. This horror sequel was written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is the 4th film in the franchise but is a direct sequel to the 1998 film, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”. The film stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers & Sarah Pidgeon. Returning to the franchise are original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt & Freddie Prince Jr. In this film, a group of friends are driving to the city for the Fourth of July celebration but on the way, they cause another to swerve off the road and a cliff and then swear to secrecy to never mention what happen. One year later, one of them receives a note stating, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. The film began planning in 2014 when Mike Flanagan was brought on board for a 4th film that did not tie in to the other films but ultimately left the project when different plans fell through. This film comes after Robinson's failed attempt to get this film as a series in 2021 and began production in 2023.

We ask this week the expected question around the latest Hollywood remake I Know What You Did Last Summer (the question obviously being why remake this and not just start with the remake of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer?) and then go on to talk about something actually pretty good, which is Netflix's new Eric Bana forestry cop drama Untamed.
This week, I cashed in a Hall Pass and picked a sequel that's part slasher, part tropical fever dream — "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer." With a new entry in the franchise on the horizon, there's no better time to revisit the wild ride that is winning a mysterious trip to an abandoned island resort during hurricane season. To help unravel this Rube Goldberg chain of Hook Man chaos, we brought back our horror sequel expert Chris Egan. We cover everything from:Why you maybe should tell your family before skipping townThat weird dummy in the roadJeffrey Combs crushing it as the creepiest hotel manager everThe world's worst resort staffAnd of course... Jack Black in dreadlocks (yikes)

Send us a textRemember when 90s horror was all about beautiful people running from fishermen with hooks? "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" perfectly encapsulates that strange era when our slashers took tropical vacations and our protagonists made questionable decisions at every turn.Jennifer Love Hewitt returns as Julie James, still traumatized from the events of the first film, now haunted by nightmares and paranoia. When she and her college roommate Brandy (played by musical superstar Brandy) win a dream vacation to the Bahamas through a radio contest, it seems like the perfect opportunity to escape her troubles. Little does she know, the contest was rigged, and the vengeful hook-wielding fisherman has orchestrated the entire scenario to finish what he started. The film delivers exactly what sequel-hungry audiences of 1998 craved - more beautiful people, higher body count, and even Jack Black in a bizarre role as a dreadlocked weed dealer. While Freddie Prinze Jr. makes a welcome return, fans rightfully lament his limited screen time. The tropical setting provides a refreshing change from the original's small town, allowing for storm-related tension as our characters find themselves trapped in an increasingly empty resort during the off-season.What makes this film so fascinating to revisit isn't its scares (which are minimal) or its kills (which lack creativity), but rather how perfectly it captures late 90s horror sensibilities. The fashion, the music, the dialogue - it's all a time capsule of a specific moment in cinema history when slashers were commercially viable but creatively waning. The "Ben's son" twist may induce groans rather than gasps, but there's an undeniable charm to the film's commitment to its ridiculous premise. As a new "I Know What You Did Last Summer" film hits theaters this week, it's the perfect time to revisit this flawed but fascinating sequel and appreciate how far horror has come - or perhaps how much we sometimes miss the simpler days when all we needed was a hook, some rain, and Jennifer Love Hewitt's perfectly blow-dried hair surviving impossible humidity.Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

With the 2025 Reboot having its premiere this week, the Roxy & Coy are BACK for I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis & Full Spoiler Review!! Roxy Striar and Coy Jandreau dive into the sun-drenched horror of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), the chilling slasher sequel to the 1997 hit. Directed by Danny Cannon, the film follows Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ghost Whisperer, Party of Five) as she tries to move on from the terrifying events of the first movie—only to find that the hook-wielding killer is still haunting her life. When Julie and her best friend Karla (Brandy, Moesha, Cinderella) win an all-expenses-paid trip to a secluded island resort, the vacation quickly spirals into another blood-soaked nightmare. Returning alongside Julie is Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr., She's All That, Scooby-Doo), who suspects the contest is a setup. New faces include Karla's boyfriend Tyrell (Mekhi Phifer, 8 Mile, Dawn of the Dead), the creepy resort manager Mr. Brooks (Jeffrey Combs, Re-Animator), the oddball porter Estes (John Hawkes, Winter's Bone, Deadwood), and Jack Black (School of Rock, Jumanji) in a stoner cameo that's become a cult favorite. Muse Watson (NCIS, Prison Break) returns as the menacing Ben Willis, seeking revenge for his past. This sequel features several highly searched and infamous scenes, including the stormy resort massacre, the tanning bed suspense sequence, and Julie's iconic "I will survive!" scream. With tropical isolation, rising body counts, and a twist ending, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer amps up the slasher stakes while revisiting the trauma of its predecessor. Hey, remember Natalie and Arnold? Well, they're back after a bit of a break, and just in time to revisit a '90s slasher franchise that kicked off with a July 4th-set debut and is about to be given the legacy sequel treatment! I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1997) and I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1998) have appropriately lingered in the memory for many fans, but how do they hold up? Put on a sweater because it's hot out, pack for a trip to the tropics (off season, so definitely remember the rain gear), and settle in for an episode of GHOULS IN THE HOUSE that's sure to hook you! Sorry... And remember, when you're listening to this podcast, the only ghoul in the house...is YOU! Show Music: "Cemetery Dance" by The Vivisectors. In this episode, Sidney breaks down the I Know What You Did Last Summer Franchise to include I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) to prepare for the upcoming release of the new installment.
Danielle and Sam are on a much needed summer break this month, so please enjoy a rerun of one of our favorites for some Spook Retorts in June. We'll see you in July with fresh nonsense! In the finale of this year's Spook Retorts, Danielle shares the 1998 movie I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. If you remember anything about the first I Know What You Did Last Summer, it's about a hook-wielding fisherman seeking bloody revenge against a group of teens that hit him with a car and left him for dead. For this sequel, just forget all that, it's doesn't matter. Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is now at college and trying to put the trauma of the previous summer behind her, despite her boyfriend Ray's (Freddie Prinze Jr.) best efforts. However, when she wins a radio contest for a free tropical vacation in the middle of hurricane season, she brings her friends along to a deserted island hotel. People start predictably being murdered and Julie catches sight of the hook-wielding man who is now, for some reason, killing random people who didn't hit him with a car. A hurricane rolls in trapping everyone on the island, and while the hotel knew this was coming, it is inexplicably still open. The murderer also demonstrates some hitherto unknown hacking powers on a karaoke machine for the sole purpose of spooking the teens, because apparently revenge is the last thing on his mind just behind pranks. Predictably, the bodies pile up as Julie and her friends try to survive and as Ray somehow magics himself onto the island to help. There is a particularly dumb twist at he end, but Sam is really more interested in the story that isn't being told: An average day in the life of the hook-wielding murder.
It's not quite Scream and not quite Scary Movie, it's those other horror films from the late 90s! I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is a big mess and definitely needs fixing. And yes, the third one is even worse than you remember. This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're exploring the deadly consequences of youthful indiscretions and the relentless pursuit of past sins. We'll be comparing the American slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) and the German horror flick Party Hard, Die Young (2018). I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) Directed by Danny Cannon, this sequel to the 1997 hit follows Julie James and her friends as they take a seemingly relaxing vacation to a remote island resort. However, their past actions come back to haunt them when the vengeful fisherman returns, picking them off one by one in a tropical paradise turned deadly trap. Party Hard, Die Young (2018) Directed by Dominik Hartl, this German slasher film takes the familiar "teens in peril" trope to a vibrant and chaotic Croatian music festival. What starts as a wild party under the sun turns gruesome when a masked killer begins targeting the young revelers, turning their hedonistic escape into a fight for survival. Join us as we dissect these two tales of youthful terror and relentless pursuit. We'll discuss how each film utilizes its unique setting to amplify the horror, the effectiveness of their respective killers, and how they explore the themes of guilt, consequence, and the inescapable nature of the past. Get ready for sun, sand, and a whole lot of bloodshed! Spoilers start around 8:25.
