People's Tribune radio brings you stories from speakers who are are in the forefront of the fight for a better world. Our speakers bring a message of hope and the possibility of creating a new society whose wealth benefits all.
People’s Candidates Challenge Corporate Parties The ruling class will attempt to do what they have always done: derail or push the movement off course from its final destination. But, the will of the people is to have an economy and government that are both finally of, for and by the people, and we will not be deterred.
Anger Boils Over at Denial of Healthcare Healthcare is a life or death matter. We have a right to it. The healthcare crisis gives us an opportunity to fight forward. The entire healthcare system should be publicly owned and healthcare should be free and available to everyone. We can take the first step in that direction by enacting a national single-payer public insurance system: improve Medicare and expand it to cover everyone.
In America health care has become a profit-making $3.2 trillion-a-year business, and you will be allowed to die if you don’t have insurance or money. It’s estimated some 45,000 people die every year in America because they lack health insurance. Health care is a human right, and should be available to everyone who lives in our country. Health care can be a for-profit commodity, or it can be a human right, but it can’t be both.
The national March for Science in Washington will be on Saturday, April 22, the annual Earth Day observance. I have been a working research scientist for almost 50 years. I will join the March for Science in opposition to the current threat to science and scientific theory. The dangers faced by the scientific community are inseparably intertwined with the attack on democracy, justice and economic survival. These threats did not suddenly arise with Trump’s election and will not magically disappear when he is gone. For more information, go to www.marchforscience.com
The billionaire ruling class has made several changes to lessen democracy in Baltimore and increase rule by a new form of police terror. Fascism is much more than the Neo Nazis. It is the corporate/military takeover of government and the destruction of our democracy. The old police terror found in the back of a police van is decried while a new police terror is implemented with little knowledge or discussion. This is done with tax dollars and private capitalist grants. This police state is for each of us, whether you protest Freddy Grey’s death, the pollution of the Bay, fracking or poor education, a system to deny your rights is being created. Now is the time to stop it.
From Rev. Pinkney at BROOKS/FREMONT CORRECTIONAL FACILITY Let the truth be told. Capitalism generates inequality and wealth, status and power. You must recognize the unfairness of a system that allows wealth to accumulate to an unlimited degree and claim to provide equal opportunity for the people. It is a system that undermines democracy by concentrating power and wealth in the hands of a few. The establishment no longer needs educated workers as it once did. Whirlpool set its sights on turning the city of Benton Harbor into a lakeside resort for the wealthy. Whirlpool and other corporations teamed up and began transitioning the area from an industrial based economy to a tourist, real estate and service-based economy. I am afraid the parents, teachers and school board members have been misled and lied to by Whirlpool. Now we have three schools closing, overcrowded classrooms and there is no telling what kind of education the children will get. The economy and social equality is the essence of democracy and is the antithesis of capitalism. We must confront the Whirlpool Corporation at all cost.
The Struggle for Democracy in America Intensifies The 2016 presidential election was one of the most divisive in our country’s history. This is no surprise, given the economic, moral, and political crisis. The crisis can’t be solved within an economy controlled by corporations and billionaires. The corporations won’t support workers they don’t need. At the same time, masses of unemployed people are a threat to the system, so the billionaires use racism and every other divisive ideology to pit us against each other. Our fight for a program that can pull our whole society forward and put our country on a path to peace, prosperity, equality and democracy. A coopera`tive society, where the necessities of life are distributed based on need, not money.
Soldier of Truth, The Trials of Rev. Pinkney Editor’s note: Phillip A. Bassett‘s new book, Soldier of Truth, is about the author’s eyewitness account of the persecution of Rev. Edward Pinkney for his leadership in a fight against the takeover of a town by a corporate giant. Purchase the book on amazon.com. “This book gave me a new perspective on what my stepfather has been called by God to do. It gave me insight on what was done, what was said, some insight on what happened in court. This is a great read.” — Latoya Williams Including interview with Phillip A. Bassett author of “Soldier of Truth”
Candidate Pledges to Wrest Control of Government from Corporations BALTIMORE, MD — In September, hundreds of people gathered in downtown Baltimore to support Green Party Candidate for Mayor, Joshua Harris. Years of one-party rule by the Democratic Party has left Baltimore in shambles. Now many people want a new alternative. A lot of new energy and new people are developing around this campaign. “My program is to shift the power from the corporate interests in city government to the people who are impacted most. It’s about giving power to people who have been neglected for too long.”
The People Demand a Humane Society Electronic production is rapidly eliminating human labor in all sectors of the economy. This is causing a political crisis. How will the ruling class control us when our labor is no longer needed. How will we , without money, eat, secure housing, be educated, have health care and have even water ? The corporations need the government to rule in their interests by privatizing public goods and services, transferring social welfare into corporate welfare. We are demanding a humane society and a government that intervenes on our behalf to make that happen. We, the people must unite around our common interests for survival.
Standing Rock: the People vs Corporate Destruction When the Standing Rock Sioux of North Dakota discovered that a pipeline carrying fracked oil was to be built through their land. This ignited a resistance that has captured the world’s attention, and gathered the support of hundreds of tribes, and massed thousands of supporters to the site in the struggle for water and life. Our stand is to hold the government responsible for protecting the Earth and its people. We can unite to create a cooperative society. A new Fire is burning. This is what Standing Rock is to us all.
US Justice Department Condemns Baltimore Police The Justice Department ordered many cosmetic changes, but BCPD had the last laugh. Under the nose of the US Justice Department, the BCPD operated an illegal spying operation that spied on all the people of Baltimore, including the Mayor and City Council. Dropping the benign mask of “Serve and Protect,” the police stand exposed as the ”watchdogs of private property.” Militarized, divorced from society, striving to become a law unto themselves, their every brutal, illegal act shapes the American fascist police state.
Wide Scale Poverty makes Class Unity possible During the elections and beyond, we, the people, must continue making our political independence from the ruling class a reality. This is the only way we will have democracy, peace, and prosperity. We must put forward the demand that the government guarantee that the basic needs of the people are met.
Elections 2016: Raise the Demands of the People During the elections and beyond, we, the people, must continue making our political independence from the ruling class a reality. This is the only way we will have democracy, peace, and prosperity. We must put forward the demand that the government guarantee that the basic needs of the people are met.
The American people want an end to homelessness The demands of the homeless and the whole of our class for the absolute right to housing and all else we need, not just to survive but to thrive, is in reality a cry for the overturning of the profit-driven system of private ownership, and for a society of sharing controlled by the people. This is the ultimate demand of the struggle for homeless rights, and everyone’s basic rights, and its logical outcome.
Government Must Guarantee Our Basic Needs The question is: “Why does anyone have the “right” to privately own our natural resources?” If the corporations cannot provide for our needs, then we must demand that government will. The demand that government provides health care, housing, education and water and guarantees them for the people is nationalization—or government takeover of the corporations—in the people’s interests. These demands are a bridge to a new society where the abundance produced is distributed to all based on need.
The Elections - How do we end Corporate Rule? Democratic and Republican parties are the twin parties of the corporations. They will tow the corporate line. The significance of this election lies in the unprecedented nature of our times, and that a section of the working class has taken a step toward declaring its political independence of the ruling class parties. The effort to push this independence forward must continue now and after the election. Revolutionaries can advance this process by putting forward the demand that the government guarantee the basic needs of the people.
Program From Our Friends KPFK 90.7 FM Pacifica Radio Program Sojourner Truth with Margaret Prescod interviews Claire McClinton on Flint Water Crisis, on March 16th 2016.
Revolutionary Road Radio Show by Bruce Wright in Clearwater, Florida. An Interview with Claire McClinton of Flint, MI, speaking about the fight for lead free water in the city of Flint — and the role of Michigan’s Emergency Manager model of dictatorial corporate rule in poisoning the water.
Water for Life, not for Profit Cities that lost jobs slipped into crisis as their tax bases dwindled. In Michigan the corporations have been moving to restructure these cities, including Flint. In this effort to restructure cities, Michigan's Governor Snyder has institute a system of emergency management which eliminates democracy, and guarantee profits for corporations he represents. It was the appointed emergency manager of Flint who switched the city’s water supply to a polluted river water to “save money.” We must demand that the government guarantee food, clothing, housing, healthcare and safe water for all in our country who need it. The only solution is a cooperative society where the needs of all the people are met.
Nelson Peery an American Revolutionary Today a program From Our Friends at KPFK Pacifica Radio Program Beautiful Struggle Aired on January 19th 2016 The program discuss the thoughts and contributions of Nelson Peery an American revolutionary.
Cost of Higher Education Labor-replacing electronic technology is permanently eliminating jobs and destroying the foundation of the capitalist system. The result is less labor needed for production. Fewer highly educated workers are needed to support robotic technology. As the jobs go, education as a birthright is being taken away. We are becoming a dispossessed group of the working class that capitalism no longer has any use. We need a vision of a new education system where everyone has the right to a quality education. We must demand that the government provide equal funds for every student. Free tuition to guarantee our future and forgiveness of out standing student Debts. An Education denied because of the inability to pay robs us all of away to maximize our efforts, our abilities and our contributions to the future of our planet. Education must be Free !
Water Wars - Detroit Homrich 9 Trial Threat to democracy and jury system in water trial. The United Nations contends that water is a human right (UN Resolution 62/242) Providing water that is poisonous as in Flint Mi, denying water to families and children as in Detroit or jailing leaders, like Rev. Pinkney who fought corporate control of his community in Benton Harbor, these are just a signs of a system in decay. A system based on the private property of the billionaire class who holds political power. The only solution is a cooperative society where the needs of all the people are met.
The public view of police brutality is challenging the way police do their business. Video from phones and Twitter continue to expose police brutality. The rulers still have the power. The public is trapped between capitalism, drug gangsters whose gunfights kill every day, and police brutality. The murder rate, mainly of Black men, has risen to the highest in 40 years.
Housing is the Cure for Homelessness "From the Pages" - July Cover Story of the People's Tribune In the movie “99 Homes,” real estate shark Rick Carver relays this message to an evicted suburban homeowner: “America doesn’t bail out the losers. America was built by bailing out the winners, by rigging a nation of the winners, for the winners, by the winners. .” Since the foreclosure crisis began, 5.5 million homes have been lost nationwide. And the crisis isn’t over. But it is Michigan that clearly illustrates that this crisis cannot be resolved without a radical break with a social system that guarantees necessities like homes only to those who can pay. Once the industrial capital of the world, today new labor-replacing technology in the form of robots and computers is destroying the industrial economy and the society built around it. Hundreds of thousands have lost their so-called ‘middle-class’ jobs that in the past supported a stable tax base. Michigan’s Emergency Manager System, put in place by corporate backers, guarantees billions of dollars to corporations and turns over public assets to private interests. Meanwhile, formerly productive workers and their families fight for their human rights to housing and water. They join a growing class of workers worldwide who cannot compete with robots and computers.

Police Violence - Baltimore Freddie Gray Died in Police Custody From the Pages - May 2015 BALTIMORE, MD — Freddie Gray died on April 19, after being violently subdued, and then subjected to one of the Baltimore Police Department’s infamous “rough rides.” The Freddie Gray case is different only because many people witnessed and recorded his arrest. You could hear him pleading for medical assistance as he was cuffed and thrown into a police van. Forty-five minutes later he was unconscious with a severed spinal cord. Hispanics and whites are also receiving Baltimore police clubs and bullets. Those who want Justice for Freddie Gray are learning several lessons. We need an organization that will represent us all.
Program, From the Pages. Less than four miles from the intersection where Mike Brown was killed—a ten-minute drive down Florissant Ave—is the Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, where Dred Scott is buried. Visitors have left pennies on his grave—Lincoln faces up—for good luck. Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom in 1846. Over the course of a decade his case made its way up from local Missouri courts to the Supreme Court, which ruled that Scott, as a slave, “had no rights which the white man was bound to respect.” The court also moved to expand slavery throughout the nation, catalyzing the American Civil War.
Program from the Page: CHICAGO IL — Dorothy Holmes wants to know why. Why, on October 12, 2014, did a Chicago Police detective, George Hernandez, fire seven shots at the back of her son, Ronald “After Chicago Police gunned down her son, she says: ‘I’m holding them accountable for his murder. Johnson was unarmed and had no criminal record. He was 25 years old with five kids We unite with grieving mothers who, like Dorothy Holmes, hold the police accountable for their attacks on our liberty and our lives. We must fight against these attacks with the understanding that this system must and will be replaced with a new society built on justice for all.

From the Past This is a rebroadcast of a historic speech presented to commemorate the first year anniversary of the passing of General G. Baker II, born September 6, 1941— passing away on May 18, 2014. General G. Baker II was an internationally known and respected revolutionary, labour and community leader. He fought to organize the demands of the exploited into a vision. He fought to organize the fighters around that vision. He fought for a movement guided by the vision of a new world of peace and freedom. His vision was of the working class reaching out to take each others hand, to come together arm-in-arm, to march shoulder-to shoulder, regardless of our sex, age, and shades of our skin, to ignore all those who attempt to divide us; to combine with all who side with their class; and to pursue our own class interest. What the ruling class, fears most is General Baker’s vision guiding the movement of the exploited: the fight for an economic system that meets the needs of the people.
From Our Friends; An interview with Larry Pinkney and Claire McClinton discussing the dictatorial Emergence Manager law pa436, its effects in Michigan and beyond and its relationship to the corporate attack on Rev. EdwardPinkney.
From the Pages: The conditions for class unity are maturing. Automation is economically pushing society toward an irrepressible conflict. Commonly shared poverty and the permanent denial of the necessities of life by the owning class are giving rise to common demands. Whether you are Black and protesting in Ferguson or white, on welfare in Appalachia, the demand is the same for food, housing, health care, etc. None of these demands can be met without a cooperative society where social production is owned publicly and distributed according to need. The next step in that direction is for the new section of workers to become conscious of themselves as members of a class and unite on that basis.
From the Pages An Editorial; Walmart workers are more than simply fighting for a wage increase, this movement represents a section of the working class that has been robbed of a future in this economy and is at the forefront of fighting for a new society. They are fighting for the right to survive and thrive when all other options have been taken away.

Pinkney's Trial, Day 1, October 27th, 2014 From the Streets; We bring you interviews from Benton Harbor community and supporters from other cities about event's on Day 1 of trial against Rev. Edward Pinkney. Impressions and concerns are expressed about the possible verdict based on the events during the first day of the trail. Return to People's Tribune Radio for updates.
From the Editors; On the Significance of Rev. Pinkney Trial Free Pinkney The People's Tribune has been in this fight since 2005, when we began to report on the dismantling of democracy in Michigan. As the economy in the Rust Belt (and nation) worsens, naked corporate rule in Michigan has continued to rear its head. Fascism takes hold by victory after small victory. Hear what the people are doing about it !
The 2015 National Security budget exceeds 1 trillion dollars, more then one third of the entire National Budget. Our tax dollars are used to protect corporate private property interest. The U.S. Corporate welfare funding is at over $100 billion, while cuts of billions are made to social programs designed to help Americans lead productive lives.
Update: Events Surrounding Rev. Pinkney's Trial and the Recall Election of the Mayor of Benton Harbor, Mi. Reverend Pinkney has become the face of resistance to the notion that the working class has no rights that the corporation is bound to respect. Any and all efforts must be made to overturn the charges against Pinkney as a step toward overturning the spread of this model to the rest of Michigan and the nation. Truth be told, the charges leveled against Reverend Edward Pinkney in Benton Harbor, MI are but the latest saga in a ruthless pursuit of naked corporate rule that is gripping the state of Michigan
Children who Qualify under United Nations International Protections as Refugees are being Deported. A humanitarian crisis involving Central American children seeking to enter the U.S. has been in the making for a long time. It only recently exploded onto the news, due largely to intentional coverage by media pundits and certain elected officials.
Michael Brown’s Murder in Ferguson, Mo. Aug. 9, 2014 The People's Tribune discusses the root of the wave of police violence and murder in America. The fact is, our automated economy no longer needs us, and human life is therefore cheapened to zero. A new, militarized, fascist police state is put in place to crush the demands of the people for justice and a decent life. Injustice will end when the economic system that has given rise to these conditions is gotten rid of and replaced by a cooperative economy that will end poverty. Imagine the justice in a new world of abundance, peace and freedom for all. As a first step, let’s insure killer cops are indicted!
Detroit: Water is a human right! They discuss the city's effort to privatize water for their corporate friends. Michigan, with its dictatorial emergency managers that replace democratically elected officials, is ground zero for the fight against the corporate fascist assault on our lives. What is happening in Michigan can come to your town too!
