Kamil Philip was born in post-Communist Poland and came to the U.S. with his family on a one-month visa that turned into a lifelong fight for survival. Growing up in a Long Island junkyard, Kamil's version of the American dream spiraled into gun charges, forged documents, and years of run-ins with the law. But his biggest battle wasn't prison—it was deportation. After losing his mother and being targeted by a detective determined to ruin his future, Kamil faced being sent back to the country his family risked everything to leave. Against all odds, a judge let him stay, and he rebuilt his life from scratch. Today, he's a successful business owner who employs ex-cons, mentors young people, and teaches others how to build their own second chance. From selling guns and fake documents to nearly being deported, Kamil's story is a powerful journey of survival, redemption, and what it really takes to overcome the system. #LockedInWithIanBick #TrueCrime #DrugTrafficking #DeportationStory #PrisonStories #Immigration #RedemptionStory #realstories Thank you to RULA & PELIPOST for sponsoring this episode: Rula: Rula patients typically pay $15 per session when using insurance. Orgullosa and her daughter, Estrella, began to rebuild their lives after they were separated in the U.S.-Mexico border under the first Trump administration in 2018. Seven years later, Trump was re-elected, and their story took a downward spiral. They were “unlawfully deported” back to Honduras, despite having legal protection to be in the U.S. In this episode, we hear from Orgullosa about the months leading up to her deportation, the harassment she experienced from ICE, and how she’s part of a broader court filing trying to bring families like hers back to the U.S. Latino USA is the longest-running news and culture radio program in the U.S., centering Latino stories and hosted by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa. New York Mayor runner Zohran Mamdani says that Islamophobia is “endemic” in the US, and his opponents have given him ample reason to make that case. A New York congresswoman called him “the jihadhist candidate” and Republican Randy Fine is trying to have him deported. Plus Mamdani's main opponent, Andrew Cuomo, has called him a “terrorist sympathiser” and was widely criticised for saying this in a recent interview. For his part, Mamdani has not always struck the right tone on issues of race and faith, previously comparing the NYPD to the IDF and making bizarre statements about the real victims of 9/11.It comes at a time of hand-wringing and soul-searching over ICE raids, anti-immigrant rhetoric and the question of what it means to be an American. Is Mamdani the embodiment of this great colorblind meritocracy? Or, as Fine puts it, part of the “invasion”? The Mancave Discusses all the news of the week and much more!
Today's Headlines: Trump, posting from London, declared “Antifa” a terrorist organization—even though it's not an actual organization—while mulling racketeering charges with AG Pam Bondi against unnamed left-wing groups. Meanwhile, watchdogs say Russia's “Operation Overlord” is pumping out fake news, memes, and even Pedro Pascal quotes to stir division after Charlie Kirk's assassination. The Pentagon, for its part, is eyeing machine learning-driven propaganda tools abroad, and even floating a recruitment campaign using Turning Point USA offices “in Kirk's honor.” Speaking of deals, the New York Times dropped a bombshell linking Trump's family cryptofirm World Liberty Financial to a $2B investment from the UAE, followed suspiciously by U.S. approval to send Emiratis advanced AI chips—despite intel concerns they'll land in China. In other news, House Oversight launched an investigation into ABC, Disney, and Sinclair over Jimmy Kimmel's suspension after FCC threats. Sinclair called the punishment “not enough” and demanded Kimmel apologize and cut a check to Turning Point USA. The same committee also summoned the CEOs of Discord, Reddit, Twitch, and Steam to testify on platform radicalization October 8. On the Turning Point front, Charlie Kirk's widow Erika Kirk has been unanimously elected as the org's new CEO. On immigration, a judge ordered Columbia grad Mahmoud Khalil to be deported to Syria or Algeria, citing omissions on his green card application—including past political affiliations—though supporters say it's punishment for his activism against the Gaza war. And to end this crazy week, Limewire (yes, Limewire) bought the Fyre Festival brand on eBay for $245K and says it's planning “real world experiences.” Resources/Articles mentioned in this episode: CNN: Trump says he's designating Antifa as a terrorist organization ABC News: Security analysts flag rise in Russian-created misinformation posts on social media following Kirk shooting The Intercept: Pentagon Document: U.S. Wants to “Suppress Dissenting Arguments” Using AI Propaganda NYT: In Giant Deals, U.A.E. In March, as part of President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, the United States sent more than 250 migrants, the majority being Venezuelan nationals, to El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center, a megaprison often referred to by its Spanish acronym, CECOT. In July, four months later, the men from Venezuela were released to Venezuela as part of an international prisoner swap. U.S. officials acknowledged in court that many of those sent to CECOT had no criminal record. The Washington Post interviewed 16 of the men, providing the fullest account yet of the treatment and conditions inside CECOT. That includes Roger Molina, a food delivery driver and aspiring soccer player who had been conditionally accepted into a State Department resettlement program for refugees.Today, Samantha Schmidt, The Post's Bogotá bureau chief, shares Molina's story and what she and her colleagues learned about the difficult conditions inside CECOT, a secretive prison where inmates are denied access to lawyers and almost all contact with the outside world. Today's show was produced by Elana Gordon. It was edited by Reena Flores and mixed by Sam Bair. Thanks also to Helena Carpio, Christine Armario, Maria Paul and Teo Armus.
