A frequent Sanders surrogate on TV and radio, Tasini has written for The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Business Week, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times. In 2006 Tasini unsuccessfully challenged Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary because of her vote for the Iraq War. A forum on the Refugee Crisis will be held Wednesday, Driscoll Hall Auditorium, 7-8:30 p.m. It is ACS approved. Panelists include a former UNHCR Protection Officer assigned to Jordan and Lebanon, who will discuss the UNHCR's system for determining refugee status and the desperate situation Syrian refugees now face. Professor Pistone, director of the Law School Clinic for Asylum, Refugee, and Emigrant Services, will explain the laws governing protection. A Syrian seeking asylum will share his family's story, and Fr. Ellis who recently returned from Lebanon, will offer a perspective on the impact of refugees on the region. Attention will be given to what needs to be done and recommendations for action.

“Aid and Democracy Redux: Reassessing the Impact of Foreign Aid on Democracy.” The lecture will focus on donors, like the United States, whose goals include the promotion of democratic reform in developing countries. Dr. Kilby will use unique and improved methods to analyze an in-depth data set in order to describe the real impact of foreign aid on the process of democratization abroad.
