Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. . . . — Ephesians 5:18 In Brazil there is a popular festival each year called Carnival. Sponsored with public funds and promoted by political authorities, Carnival attracts millions of tourists from around the world. Parading cars and floats with all kinds of decorations fill the main streets of large cities. Samba schools parade to the rhythm of the batucada before the euphoria of a crowd thirsty for pleasure. Carnival is the festival of masks. Sadly, it is a drunken party. Carnival is a vain effort to find joy where there are only ashes of frustration. The false joy that Carnival promotes leaves a bitter taste. In the setting of this festival, decency is sacrificed, immorality is celebrated, and the wise values of dignified family life are tossed aside. Lulled by amazing spectacles, the crowds jump and dance, animated by worldly ideas of joy. But people's hearts at the end of this event are empty. Carnival, in fact, is a party where true joy does not find expression. Instead, however, we can give thanks that God offers us true happiness. We are invited to be filled with the Holy Spirit, who makes our bodies a holy dwelling place for God (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Only in the Lord can we find the peace and tranquility that our souls long for. Blessed God, transform our hearts. Free us from trying to solve our problems and to escape our struggles with the excesses of empty celebrations. Turn us to find true life in Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: Dave Urbanski of The Blaze writes: “Blaze News investigative journalist Steve Baker—who for years has been searching for the truth about Jan. 6, 2021, and believes the U.S. government has been targeting him for it—on Friday was charged with four misdemeanors related to his Jan. 6 coverage at the U.S. Capitol after turning himself in to the FBI in Dallas. The charges are: Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, Disorderly conduct in a capitol building, Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a capitol building…Baker's Dallas attorney, James Lee Bright, added to Blaze News that withholding the nature of the charges against his client was a ‘really unusual' move. Bright told Blaze News that he's ‘disturbed' about what's happening with his client, especially given that Baker has been ‘in full compliance' all this time. Bright also said the federal government ‘three-plus years later going after people who were legitimate functioning journalists that day' appears designed to have an ‘absolute chilling effect.'” You can read the full article here: https://www.theblaze.com/news/blaze-news-investigative-writer-steve-baker-whos-been-reporting-on-january-6-handcuffed-charged While speaking from Eagle Pass, Texas, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that he met with the parents of Laken Riley—a 22-year-old University of Georgia student who was murdered by an undocumented migrant last Thursday. Trump stated, “[President] Joe Biden will never say Laken Riley's name, but we will…We're not going to forget her.” He went on to explain that undocumented migrants are pouring across the U.S. Southern border unchecked as part of the “Joe Biden invasion.” During his visit to Eagle Pass, Trump was accompanied by Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) who, similarly, called on President Biden to use executive action to halt the ongoing chaos at the border. Meanwhile, speaking from Brownsville, Texas, President Biden said this administration—as well as local Texas officials—are working hard to create a “safe secure border.” Biden then emphatically stated “it is time to act,” calling on Congress to pass legislation that will guarantee border officials have the resources they need while drastically increasing the number of judges available to process the asylum claims of migrants entering the country. But wouldn't expediting asylum claims potentially encourage more migrants to flood the U.S. Southern border? While appearing on Fox News with Sean Hannity, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump jokingly said of President Joe Biden: “He couldn't do this interview…I say it loud and clear: he should take a cognitive test. A president should take a cognitive test. They say that is unconstitutional...But I took two of them, and I aced both of them—I'm very proud to say." Cliff Maloney Jr.—Founder of The Pennsylvania Chase—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his campaign to knock on 500,000 doors in key districts throughout PA, with the initiative ideally increasing Republican mail-in ballot participation. Maloney explains that “as much as I like voting on Election Day” it's important for Republicans to understand the vote early option is available to them. In past elections Republicans submitted a mere 20% of the total mail-in ballots. Maloney emphasizes that Republicans cannot fail to adapt and expect to win. Bush Administration—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to talk about his campaign to unseat Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA). McCormick is calling on Lancaster City Council to rescind their recently approved Lancaster Trust Act which ends cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The puzzling decision comes as thousands of migrants unlawfully enter the country everyday under the Biden Administration's relaxed border policies. You can learn more about his campaign here: https://www.davemccormickpa.com 5:05pm- In their Wall Street Journal opinion piece, David B. Rivkin Jr. and Elizabeth Price Foley write: “Many observers thought the Supreme Court would decline to consider Donald Trump's claim that presidential immunity shields him from prosecution for his conduct on Jan. 6, 2021. But on Wednesday the justices announced that they will hear the former president's case in April. Mr. Trump could eventually face a trial on those charges, but the justices had little choice but to take up this question because the lower court's ruling was so sweeping and dangerous. Mr. Trump claims that his allegedly criminal actions were ‘official acts' taken as president. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia held that it didn't matter if they were—that no president is entitled to immunity from ‘generally applicable criminal laws.' That decision violates the separation of powers, threatens the independence and vigor of the presidency, and is inconsistent with Supreme Court precedent.” Rivkin served in the Justice Department during the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations. Foley is a constitutional law professor at Florida University. Maui = AfghanistanGod shames the wise with simple things, as those who are in power chase their own fleshly ambitions and desires. In today's episode, we look at the parallels of what went on in the withdrawal of Afghanistan and what is transpiring in the wake of the tragedy in Maui. We also address how President Trump has smashed through a polling ceiling, indicating this is his election to lose. What Does God's Word SayMatthew 7:16-20 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.Galatians 5:19-26:“19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”2 Corinthians 5:16From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.Episode 1,030 Links:Biden spokesman John Kirby responds to criticism of the botched Afghanistan withdrawal — including from the Gold Star mom of fallen Staff Sgt. A group of North Canterbury animal activists experienced a 'disturbing' confrontation during the region's hunting competition. 100 children reportedly showed off their kill while chanting 'meat' and yelling abuse at the group of protestors. Christchurch Animal Save organiser Sarah Jackson says the scene of children carrying dead animals was 'heartbreaking to see'. The first ever St. Patrick's Day parade took place not in Ireland, as many people might expect, but in Spanish Florida, on March 17, 1601. It wasn't until about 100 years later that the world famous parades got going in Boston and New York City. Historian J. Michael Francis made the discovery of this unexpectedly early celebration of Ireland's patron saint while investigating the Spanish imperial history of the Floridian city of St. Augustine. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why for around 50 years up until the 1970s all pubs in Ireland were closed on St. Patrick's Day; discuss what gunpowder had to do with the first St. Patrick's Day parade; and reveal where corned beef and cabbage really come from… Further Reading: ‘Where the first St. Patrick's Day parade REALLY took place' (Daily Mail, 2018): https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-5511205/First-St-Paddys-parade-took-place-FLORIDA-century-NYs.html ‘First St. Patrick's Day parade' (History.com, 2010): https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/first-st-patricks-day-parade ‘A Brief History of St. Patrick's Day' (ABC News, 2017): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40BlVzjxu-I #1600s #US #Strange We'll be back on Monday - unless you join

In today's episode, we hear from Elizabeth Reiner Platt and her Canopy Forum article “Religious Exemption Laws and the Conservative Legal Movement.” Adapted from “https://lawrightsreligion.law.columbia.edu/sites/default/files/content/Policy%20Analyses/Parading_the_Horribles_The_Risks_of_Expanding_Religious_Exemptions.pdf (Parading the Horribles: The Risks of Expanding Religious Exemptions),” which was co-authored by Platt, the article explains how conservative Christians have disproportinately benefited from the right to free exercise of religion. “In recent years,” says Platt, “religious exemptions have been used to advance not only conservative religious beliefs about sex, marriage, and reproduction but also the broader goals of the conservative legal movement.” Platt examines three ways in which religious exemptions have been used to advance the goals of the legal conservative movement: by confining the administrative state, deregulating the public marketplace and shifting government funds to private entities. “Religious exemptions have undercut emergency public health orders, curbed oversight of religious schools and childcare facilities, limited worker protections and union organizing, and undermined laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment,” says Platt. “The expansion of religious exemptions may therefore be seen not only as an effort of the religious right, but as one facet of the larger conservative legal movement's commitment to deregulation and privatization.” https://canopyforum.org/2022/04/22/religious-exemption-laws-the-conservative-legal-movement/ (Read) the original article on Canopy Forum. https://cslr.law.emory.edu/scholarship/cslrbooks2016-2021.pdf (Browse) our book brochure.

Have you ever wondered who built the home you lived in? Why the decision was made to go with that counter top or even why the base boards look the way they do? If you have, this episode will share some light into an annual event our Home Builders Association of Greater Baton Rouge does to provide potential home buyers with those exact answers. The annual parade of homes is one that allows individuals to attend and learn a lot more about a home than just the square footage and select trims that were used. This annual event provides an in depth look by meeting with the construction team and learning the ins and outs of each home being showcased. We were joined this week by CEO, Karen Zito, Direct of Marketing, Rebecca Harris & Board Member Angela Poirrier to discuss this upcoming event as well as everything the association does for the construction industry within our Baton Rouge community. If you are interested in this event, check out the link below for more information. LET THE LIGHT IN Our readings are I Samuel 22, Psalm 17, 35 and Matthew 6. We are reading from the New Living Translation. What are you looking at? Where is your eye being drawn? What light is filling your eye? Are you looking at the world? If the world has caught your eye, then your thoughts will be dominated by worry about your survival, what to eat, drink, and wear, and people's opinion of you. The world is great at helping us keep your eye on ourselves. Jesus says, Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! (Matt 6:22-23) If the eye is like a lamp for the whole body, than what we are looking at matters. If the eye is like a lamp for the whole body, than what we are looking at matters. If our eye is fixed inward, it becomes a black hole, it only leads to a life of self-obsessed worry and regret which has a way of filling our whole life and dominating us. Jesus says, when your eye is unhealthy your whole body is filled with darkness. And for religious folks, Jesus has a special warning. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! (Mt 6:23) Parading our religious light before others, in an attempt to co-opt God and draw attention to ourselves, is a deep darkness. But Jesus wants to invite us into a different way, that goes beyond worry and self-obsession. But Jesus wants to invite us into a different way, that goes beyond worry and self-obsession. He allows and enables us to step into a life of trust and rest in God, a God-focussed life. When we focus our eye on Him we find a Father who knows everything about us, even our private motivations, and still loves us. Our Father sees us and lets us know that we are far more valuable to him than we can dare to imagine. Our Father sees us and lets us know that we are far more valuable to him than we can dare to imagine. When you know that you are loved that way you can afford to take your eyes off of yourself and actually begin to take a good look at someone else. A God-focussed life allows us to see, love, honor and serve other people. When our eyes and life are fixed on Him, His light will fill the whole body. It will start to shine in all the untouched areas of our life. He will shine His gracious, merciful, healing light into our past, and onto our wounds. What you look at matters. What is your eye lighting upon? Keep your eye fixed on Him. Let the light of Jesus fill your eye. It will bring light to your whole body, imagination, and soul, and it will make you new.

Ann is on an island not far off the coast Victoria, walking along by the ocean at the bottom of some cliffs. There are lots of holes or tunnels in some of the grassy hills… What could they be? They are penguin burrows! But where are the penguins? Ann waits patiently by the beach, and a little penguin pops up out of the waves and starts waddling up the beach. Oh and another one, and another one. It's a whole penguin parade!
