What can a few mallard ducks teach us about our relationship with Jesus Christ? When our family found some ducks that decided that they love our yard, I didn't think they would teach me anything...let alone what a powerful lesson about our Savior.

My amazing friend Dri Marshall kindly stepped in to fill a gap in my Holy Week programming that I didn't know that I needed! She teaches me so much! Wednesday of Holy Week is a day that we don't actually know a lot about. We don't have a very clear idea of how the Savior spent His time-maybe He was teaching, performing miracles, spending some time by Himself...maybe all of these above. With that in mind, Dri shares with my that things that she learned from her study of this important day and she tells me about some of the traditions from her home country of Brazil. I love her parting thoughts, that when we don't know what the Savior was doing, we can ask ourselves, What Would Jesus Do? And then we will probably have a pretty good idea of what He was doing on that day.Dri's Previous Episodehttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2035065/12027995-episode-19-the-scholar.mp3?download=true
Today I am joined by favorite guest ever, my husband Carson. I'm joined by my friend and former guest of the podcast, Linda Crawford, to discuss her thoughts on Palm Sunday, also known as The Triumphal Entry.
Elder Castleton was born with half of his heart. How's that for an opening line? He wasn't expected to survive his birth, but he did! Huge miracle! Because he wasn't able to participate in sports, he leaned into music and becamse very accomplished as a musician. With a desire to serve the Lord, he was called on a prostelyting mission to Chicago. After a very short time, it was determined that he needed to return home and shift his mission a little bit. He ended up on oxygen and now lives at home serving as a service missionary. But there's more, those musical talents that I mentioned? Yeah, Heavenly Father had plans to use those talents in an unexpected way. With permission from his mission leaders, Elder Castleton felt inspired to begin writing Christian rap and posting it on social media. Not the usual space that you would find a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but he's doing amazing work and reaching people who may otherwise not hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. All the while inspiring people with his positivity and faith. This might be my most important episode. Or at least the most important one for 'me'. In the spirit of Lent, what will you give up? But more importantly, what will you ad? And how does that all tie into love? I'll give you a hint-loving yourself.
What does love mean to you? How do you show it? How to receive? Join me for the month of February when all episodes will be centered around 'Matters of the Heart'

TJ Buxton grew up in Salt Lake City and it would seem that fitness runs through his veins. Hi dad founded Sports Mall in Salt Lake City back in the 70's, an athletic club that has everything-tennis, swimming, all the workout equipment you could want. In 1990, he started Life Centre Athletic Club and TJ has worked there ever since. Because of the industry that he works in, TJ has a front row seat to people seizing the new year by starting a new fitness regimen and then falling off the wagon. He also has experience with this as he serves as the bishop of ward-watching people try to improve themselves and then meeting roadblocks. But there is absolutely no reason to get down on ourselves at these times! That's not what our Father in Heaven wants for us and He will always be there to give us infinite chances.TJ has observed the biggest key to our success in achieving our goals-spiritual, physical, emotional-is consistency. And in the process, we develop, increase and strengthen our most important relationships!
Returning guest, Life Coach Leah Allred, joins me to share some amazing tips on how we can set goals that are right for us that just might turn into habits!1) Ask yourself this question, why do you want to change something? And be clear about it! 2) Choose the right goals for *you*, not somebody else!3) Get off the motivation train and embrace the roller-coaster!4) Get comfortable with the 80/20 rule. You can listen to Leah's previous episode of The Little Lessons Podcast from February 2023 by clicking here!https://www.buzzsprout.com/2035065/12167574-episode-22-future-focused.mp3?download=true
As we start a new year and begin making goals and resolutions, be kind and compassionate with yourself. Set goals that are sustainable and attainable and remember to keep the Lord involved in your goal setting.
The story of how a crummy Christmas memory turned into one of my favorite Christmas traditions with a little bit of humility, forgiveness and a yummy lunch.
Kami Weddick might be one of the most fun people that I know. She is funny, worldly in the best way and has such an amazing perspective on life. I'm blessed to call her my friend and neighbor! If you are a 'Disney Adult', go take a listen to her podcast Mouse Debaters. Warning, it's a definitely a PG-13 experience, but they are hilarious!
Longest episode title ever....but totally fitting! Scott Stone and his family have bounced all over the United States from the Pacific Northwest, to middle America, then the East Coast and now South Carolina where he and his family will stick around. He's made chips and cookies and cheesecakes and bread all professionally....well, not the baking but the operations. Now he finds himself retired with a vegetable garden and hanging out with his grandkids. But his retirement doesn't look the way he and his wife Lori had planned. But would they change any of it, absolutely not. Find out why in this weeks episode. Oh, and did I mention that he's my uncle?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BZkYfqa4Fs&ab_channel=JohnLennon-Topic

My friend Nick (Hans) Huggler joins me again this week for an enlightening discussion about learning about other perspectives and other faiths-even those perspectives compete with your own. Yep, it's a line from The Matrix. But what does it have to do with me or you or God? Listen and find out!
I have noticed, that when my expectations are unrealistic, I end up in a rigid box that cuts me off from guidance and inspiration. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are ready and willing to give us the experiences that we need, but when our expectations are not where they should be, it becomes really hard for them to teach us and help us. Not to mention the disappointment that we might feel when things don't go exactly like we had hoped. But if we have realistic expectations we can align our priorities and focus on the things that matter most!
I never feel like I have enough...never enough sleep, never enough knowledge, money, food, willpower, friends, resources. I always feel like I'm lacking. And it's hard to get through life knowing that you need to do so much and be so much and get so much done when you don't have enough of what you need. But when the Savior fed the 5000, I think He taught us an important lesson about what He is able to do with limited resource, especially when we put our faith in Him.https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/john/6?lang=eng
I could not have asked for a more beautiful or inspiring location for this interview with my friend Hayden Slaymaker (coolest last name, huh?). Hayden is a fishing guide on Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories in Canada, but he is a native of Calgary, Alberta. Our family has had the privilege of having Hayden as a guide two years in a row-once in 2022 with my husband and my father in law and then this past summer. He is an outdoorsman through and through with all of the skills needed to land a giant lake trout! Plus, he has a very inspiring faith journey! If you are interested in learning more about the fishing lodge that he guides out of, you can find all of that information here.https://www.plummerslodges.com/lodges/great-bear-lake/
It took a minute but I am finally able to share this weeks episode! I'm still traveling but at least I have reception. Natalie Hall is a wife, a mother, a friend, a scholar of the Constitution and is currently serving as the Mayor of the city that I live in! Serving in government is not the faint of heart and local politics is an unusual task in and of itself. Natalie talks about what inspired her to run for Mayor and how Heavenly Father has blessed her with a thick enough skin so that she can lead, make tough decisions and still keep a gorgeous and compassionate smile on her face!

Nick Huggler is an old friend from High School that I reconnected with on social media. He and I could not be more different-on the surface. And probably the biggest difference is that he is agnostic and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But I think you'll find that while our belief systems are very different, there is way more that we agree on!He references this episode in our conversationhttps://www.buzzsprout.com/2035065/11398586-episode-5-the-big-easy.mp3?download=true

And for this episode I got to do just that. Megan Pizarro is the Relief Society President in my ward (she oversees the women's organization in my church congregation) and she is also a dear friend. She's also been one of the biggest supporters of this podcast and for that I am so so grateful! In this episode, Megan and I talk about her calling as the Relief Society president and the very important lessons that she's learned along the way as she served the women in our ward and as she has learned to rely on Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the people that she serves alongside. We also discuss some of her unique life experiences that help her be more effective at reaching out to those who are struggling and showing empathy to all of those that she encounters. Shaun Barrowes is an Emmy nominated composer and musician who has played with Imagine Dragons and competed on American Idol. I met him when he was the pianist in primary when I was the Primary President. Seriously, our primary was the happening place to be!! It was like having our own Billy Joel in the primary every Sunday. Well, he has now taken his creative talents into the realm of writing and it's a perfect fit. As the author of The Paradise Planet book series, he has taken world building to new levels. In this episode we talk about the inspiration behind this series, the world building aspect of writing and composing the score, and the hand the Heavenly Father and the Holy Ghost have played in making this project come to fruition. Run, don't walk, to get the audio book-you can get a physical copy, but I highly recommend the audio. Thank me later!https://www.paradiseplanets.com/

Linda is a Superfan of many things-her family, the gospel, he Savior, The Denver Broncos and U2 (although our opening question may leave you wondering about that last one). I am so blessed by her wisdom and her strength. I needed this interview-I hope you enjoy it as much I did!
So, have you found yourself wanting to know a little bit more about me? Maybe the origin story of this podcast? We go deep into the archive for that one! Big thank you to my friend Richie T Steadman from The Cultural Hall who stepped into the host position to ask me some questions! Literally could not have done any of this without him!
Heather Heywood is one of those friends who always has amazing, solid advice but is never afraid to tell it like it is. I love her for that! She is a wife, a mother, a musician and a dog breeder, but that only scratches the surface. I hope you enjoy getting to know my friend Heather!https://www.gooddog.com/breeders/lake-mountain-doodle-utah?breed_id=159https://instagram.com/lake_mountain_way?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==https://www.facebook.com/lakemountaindoodle?mibextid=LQQJ4dhttp://www.lakemountaindoodle.com/
