On this episode, we cover chapters 16-20 of Midnight Sun, and, boy oh boy, is it a bit of a slog. Despite that, we have a great time talking about edging and water wigglers. We laughed until we cried, per usual. Join us next time as we cover chapters 21-25.

Jupiter is out of sight this week. Mercury passes through Gemini. Mars reaches the heart of Leo. Venus gets a visit from the moon. And the June solstice is coming. Most of us know that means midnight sun from far northern locations. However, we don't often think about midnight twilight from places not so far north.

FINLAND.. Land of the Midnight Sun during Summer..I met someone recently who loves FINLAND, as a world traveler and the owner Regal Luxury Travel . Raymond Giles started this business as a “ hobby”. However, since he has been all over the world and knows so many places that most don't visit…he shares his insights on his website:Luxury Vacations Await You | Regal Luxury Travel w/ Raymond, LLC https://regalluxurytravelwraymond.com/ Finland is 75% wilderness, with over 187K of lakes—perfect for nature lovers. • Embraces the philosophy of “Every Man's Right”—people can freely roam the land and enjoy nature.https://youtube.com/shorts/x56nmwJDqVA?si=Gbe8XzK1 • Finland is repeatedly ranked the most content country in the world, with a culture that is punctual, content, and respectful of time and others • Most coffee-consumed per capita in the world. Coffee is called Kahvi. • Blueberry juice (from wild berries in local forests) is a staple—healthy and real, unlike our sugary juices in America. If you're seeking sunlight, the sun barely sets in the summers, whereas winters are your best bet at catching a glimpse of the northern lights dancing in the skies. In autumn, Finland is bathed in shades of crimson and gold, and the springtime is temperate and green. The best time to visit Finland depends on what excites you the most: 24/7 daylight, or the neon green aurora borealis against the night skies. Kundalini Yoga FEEL YOUR ABUNDANCE. KID FRIENDLY YOGA! EPISODE 138 | Midnight Sun: Arctic Tales The Far North is a region of extremes and stark beauty, and it is also trying to kill you if you're a human. And yet we still live there, around 4 million of us call the Arctic our home, and we still weave stories about it, often quite fanciful ones. It's a land of adventure, danger, murder, mishap, giants, ancient aliens, the origin of white people, secret tropical paradises, political talking points and even an overly generous fat guy in a red suit. Midnight Sun Mining Corp Vice President Business Development Adrian O'Brien joined Steve Darling from Proactive to provide a progress update on the company's 2025 Phase One exploration campaign at the Solwezi Project in Zambia. The multi-phase program is targeting three key zones and is expected to continue throughout the work season to rapidly advance the project. At the Dumbwa target, comprehensive geological mapping and site preparation have been conducted across a 20-kilometre copper-in-soil anomaly. Of the 34 planned geophysical lines, 24 have been cleared, mapped, and prepared for surveying. Dipole-dipole induced polarization (IP) surveying has been completed on ten lines. The data from this survey will guide a highly targeted drill program, which is scheduled to begin shortly after results are received. At the Kazhiba target, site access and drill pad preparations are complete in anticipation of a sulphide copper drill program. Baba Drilling and Exploration Co. has been contracted to carry out diamond drilling at "Kazhiba Target 2"—a recently identified 4 km by 2 km sulphide copper target. Drilling is expected to begin around May 26th, with six to eight diamond drill holes planned, totaling approximately 1,000 metres. Meanwhile, an extensive Partial Ionic Leach sampling program is underway at the Mitu Trend, located along the western flank of the Solwezi Dome. The company plans to collect approximately 1,800 samples to identify geochemical anomalies. Roughly 46% of the sampling has been completed, and the program is expected to conclude within two weeks. Results from the sampling will inform a follow-up IP survey to pinpoint potential mineralized zones and prioritize future drill targets. This systematic and multi-target approach positions Midnight Sun for meaningful discovery potential across its Solwezi Project in Zambia. #proactiveinvestors #midnightsunminingcorp #tsxv #mma #otc #mdngf #mining #CopperExploration #ZambiaMining #KazhibaProject #OxideCopper #FirstQuantum #MineralExploration #Mining2025 #CobaltExploration #MiningUpdates

In remote northern communities, diesel is king. But breakthrough solar energy projects are underway that could begin to reduce fossil fuel reliance. This year, the theme of Earth Day is renewable energy, so we're taking you to Nunavut where people are adding solar panels to small off-grid cabins and others are working on community-scale solar projects — so the diesel generators can finally be turned off and communities can hear silence once again, like their ancestors did.

In this episode of WAYPOINTS, we journey deep into the heart of Alaska's remote southwest to explore one of the most legendary rivers in the North – the Nushagak. Known simply as “the Nush,” this 280-mile wilderness river is famous for its massive runs of wild Pacific salmon, thriving populations of leopard rainbow trout, and a setting so remote that it's only accessible by bush plane or boat. Joining us are Dave Pishko and Sawyer Keener of Outpost on the Nush, a small, wilderness-based camp that delivers unmatched access to the upper river's most productive stretches. We dive into what makes this river so unique, the camp's deep history that dates back to 1982, and the challenges (and rewards) of running a truly off-the-grid fly fishing operation. Topics include gear, the guides, the logistics, and the conservation issues surrounding the Bristol Bay region. Whether you're an Alaska veteran, a trout fanatic, or someone who's always dreamed of an immersive fly fishing experience in the “Land of the Midnight Sun,” this one's for you.Waypoints is brought to you by PatagoniaTo bring their gear to life, Patagonia is motivated by relentless curiosity and a passion for the wild. On this episode of One Symphony, Devin Patrick Hughes sat down with Peter Drew, a symphonist and jazz composer, to discuss his diverse life journey and his debut symphony, Reminiscence. Drew, born in Europe and later a refugee in the United States, recounted his early musical awakenings. He was first intrigued by the sound of the harmonica his stepbrother gave him. However, his musical trajectory truly shifted when, around the age of eleven, he heard Toscanini conducting Beethoven's Ninth Symphony on the radio. This experience deeply resonated with him, particularly the Ode to Joy, which became the first tune he learned on the harmonica, despite not being able to read music. Although initially captivated by classical music and Beethoven, Drew's path to becoming a composer was far from traditional. He pursued various careers, including working in film distribution, catering, teaching film studies, and being a social studies teacher. Throughout these experiences, music remained a constant presence in his life; he would often "noodle around" on the clarinet. It wasn't until later in life that he began to seriously study music, taking lessons from clarinet players and exploring jazz. He eventually started arranging music and studying composers like Sibelius. When the conversation turned to his symphony, "Reminiscence," Drew emphasized the amalgamation of his varied musical tastes and life experiences. He described his influences as a "mélange" or "stew" ranging from the American Songbook to Carl Orff, Villa-Lobos, Beethoven, Brahms, Artie Shaw, and even global music like Songs of the Auvergne, Tuvan throat singing, and Raga. He explained that his compositional process often begins with a melody he likes, perhaps played on his clarinet. He then develops this initial phrase, ensuring a natural flow between musical ideas without dissonance, remaining within the realm of Romantic Classical music. Hughes inquired about the technical aspects of translating these diverse elements into a cohesive symphony, including orchestration. Drew admitted that while he can conceive melodies, he needed assistance with the intricate instrumentation for a large symphony orchestra. He collaborated with an orchestrator to achieve the desired sonic textures, ensuring that all the instrumental parts complemented each other. Regarding the upcoming performance and recording of Reminiscence by the Boulder Symphony, Drew expressed his hope that listeners would simply "enjoy yourself" and "have fun". He doesn't expect the audience to be intimately familiar with all his diverse musical influences, but rather to connect with the music on an emotional level in the same way he was first drawn to Beethoven. Drew believes that if the music sounds and feels good, it will be enjoyable to listen to. When asked about his late entry into composing a symphony, Drew, who is approaching 90, reflected that all his life experiences, both musical and non-musical, have informed his writing. He feels that composing, rather than performing, is his true strength and passion, representing an accomplishment after a lifetime of diverse pursuits. He finds satisfaction in creating music that others enjoy listening to and playing. When pressed for a favorite movement, Drew chose the third movement for its energy and the way all the musical elements come together. While acknowledging the profound impact of Beethoven on his early musical life, he noted that Reminiscence incorporates a wider range of influences, creating a unique sonic landscape. Thank you for joining us on One Symphony. Special thanks to Peter Drew for sharing his music and story. Episode 80 finds us back on air after a brief hiatus (and hospital visit!), with plenty of news to share about both the platform and our upcoming releases. We start by addressing the elephant in the room - our transition to GoCardless bank transfers for payments. This change came about because traditional payment processors (boo-hiss Stripe) weren't comfortable with our vintage nudie and erotica content, even though it represents only a small percentage of our library. We delve on our past and present theme months, with January's "Madness Takes Its Toll" exploring psychological and asylum-themed films, while February brings you "Filthy Fiftieth Feb," a look back at provocative cinema from 1975. We were particularly excited to introduce our new team members, Kalle and Tightsbury, who've been revolutionising our social media presence with creative edits and trailers.A major highlight is our announcement of upcoming Blu-ray releases. "Anita: Swedish Nymphet" is getting the deluxe treatment with multiple versions and extensive bonus materials, plus we revealed a partnership with Vinegar Syndrome for US distribution. We're also finally bringing "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" (also known as "They Call Her One Eye") to Scandinavian audiences. We shared our most-watched films of 2024, with "Vintage Erotica Anno 1970s" taking the top spot, followed by "The Swedish Sin 1969-2000." The endless popularity of "Summer with Vanja" continues to mystify us, while "The Intruders" surprisingly topped our "nice list" despite never having received a proper DVD release.Looking ahead, we're expanding our library with several exciting acquisitions. We've secured twelve restored Hungarian films, and we're particularly thrilled about bringing the complete "Lover's Guide" series to our platform - a groundbreaking educational series that made history in the UK. We're also filling some genre gaps with new additions in spaghetti westerns, Euro horror, and American high school comedies from the 1980s.Throughout the episode, we seem to keep returning to "Terror in the Midnight Sun" as our foundational film, being the first we ever released across various formats. We wrap up with an amusing (we think so) segment reading feedback from members who decided to leave Cultpix, showing both the challenges and entertainment value of running a niche streaming service dedicated to cult cinema.Cultpix is more than just a streaming site for classic cult and genre films, as we never tire of saying and we're expanding big time beyond just streaming, with our growing physical media presence and international partnerships setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting 2025 for cult film enthusiasts.

Today, I've diving into one of the most essential topics for anyone planning a trip to the Land of Fire and Ice—‘10 Things You Need to Know Before Visiting Iceland.'From navigating Iceland's famously unpredictable weather to understanding why tap water here is better than bottled, I'll cover everything to help you avoid common pitfalls and fully embrace the magic of this incredible country.Plus, I'll share a few fun cultural quirks you'll encounter along the way—like why Icelanders are so passionate about their local swimming pools. 25% off the Savvy Traveler's Guide to Iceland Grab my early bird offer and save big on this comprehensive video guide that helps you explore Iceland like a local. Click Here 1. Weather in Iceland is Unpredictable Iceland is known for having “four seasons in one day.” You might experience sunshine, rain, wind, and even snow within a single afternoon. Strong winds are common, especially in coastal areas, and can make conditions feel much colder.Always carry a waterproof jacket, sturdy boots, and gloves, even in summer. In winter, icy roads and storms may disrupt travel plans, so keep an eye on weather forecasts using vedur.is and plan flexibility into your itinerary. 2. Iceland is Expensive Expect higher prices for everything, from meals at restaurants to basic groceries and fuel. Dining out can cost upwards of $30–$50 per person for a simple meal, so consider cooking your own food. Budget supermarkets like Bónus, Krónan, and Nettó are great for stocking up on supplies. Many travelers also save by bringing snacks or dry foods from home. Accommodation, especially in remote areas, can be limited and pricey, so plan ahead to avoid overspending. 3. Driving Can Be Challenging Driving in Iceland gives you freedom, but it's not always easy. Gravel roads, sudden fog, and one-lane bridges require caution. F-Roads (highland mountain roads) require 4x4 vehicles and are open only in summer.Additionally, Icelandic sheep roam freely and might cross the road unexpectedly! Use road.is for live updates on road conditions, closures, and weather warnings. Check safetravel.is for advice on traveling safely in Iceland.Check out my Ultimate Guide to Renting a Car in Iceland. 4. Cards Are King But Cash Can Be Use Iceland is one of the most cashless countries in the world. Credit and debit cards are accepted everywhere, including small towns, food trucks, and parking meters. A PIN is often required for transactions, so make sure your card has one. If you do want cash, ATMs are available, but you likely won't need it unless you prefer tipping in cash (though tipping isn't expected in Iceland). 5. Respect Nature Iceland's breathtaking landscapes are its biggest draw, but they're also fragile. Stepping off marked paths damages moss and plants that can take decades to recover.Hot springs and volcanic areas may look inviting but can be dangerous, with scalding water or unstable ground. Always follow signs, listen to local advice, and avoid littering. Stay safe while respecting Iceland's pristine environment. 6. Plan for Daylight Extremes Iceland's location near the Arctic Circle means daylight varies dramatically throughout the year. From May to August, the Midnight Sun provides nearly 24 hours of daylight, ideal for late-night hikes or photography. In contrast, from November to January, daylight may last as little as 4 hours. This impacts your ability to explore, so plan key activities during daylight and pack a headlamp for winter visits. 7. Icelandic Tap Water is the Amazing Iceland's water is some of the purest in the world, sourced from natural springs and glaciers. You can drink directly from the tap, even in remote areas. Hot water from taps may smell like sulfur due to geothermal activity, but it's completely safe. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it as you go to save money...
Between 1971 and 1983, an unknown perpetrator committed dozens of kidnappings, rapes, and murders, wreaking havoc on the state of Alaska. The assailant was elusive, striking against area women during the freezer winter temperatures, and the extended daylight hours of Alaska's Midnight Sun alike. But eventually, they uncovered the monster behind it all, who posed as a respected and unassuming father and bakery owner in Anchorage.
