This is a podcast about AMC's Immortal Universe television series Interview with the Vampire and The Mayfair Witches, adapted from Anne Rice's extensive body of work. Friends and vampire fans Joann, Marc, and Kristina will review and discuss each episode bringing a combination of Jersey Girl sass, philosophical wit, and the analysis of a frustrated academic to bear. In today's episode (the second of a two-parter) Joann and Kristina welcome industry veteran and Anne Rice fan, Erica Robert Pallo. Erica joined us on several episodes last season and we couldn't have done this one without her! Her knowledge is deep and her insights are powerful. The season finale "And that's the end of it. There's nothing Else" left us breathless as Louis takes revenge for Claudia and Daniel, with the help of the Real Rashid and the Talamasca, uncovers one more, very critical, piece of truth that helps Louis come to a fateful decision -- a decision that has ramifications for Daniel and that brings him back to New Orleans where we finally meet the real Lestat, currently feeding on rats and clinging to an emotional support plank. Their reunion is one for the ages and we are split on what it all means. Below are some ways to engage with us and a bit more about Erica. @kristinagenx, @vampire_insider, and please email us @ vampireinsider@gmail.com Erica tells stories as a writer, media producer, and researcher with a focus on women's historical writing, film and television, photography, and vampires. Erica is at Harvard University as a library assistant and a master's student in English looking at 17th-century female playwrights in England. She will soon be launching an interview podcast and blog called The Cinematic Storyteller about people whose work tells cinematic stories through all mediums of art. She also (slowly) writes the FanFic The Vampire Gabrielle on AO3. In today's episode Joann and Kristina welcome IWTV fan and Jacob Anderson fan page curator Nado (@astronaut_Nado) who is here to help us dissect the events of season 2's penultimate episode: I Could Not Prevent It. This is a harrowing episode, one that we've been waiting for from the beginning, and one that has left so many fans heartbroken but in awe of the performances of each of the actors in this remarkable ensemble. Nado's contributions to this conversation were absolutely wonderful and we are so grateful that he agreed to join. We promise you'll want more of his thoughts and we are definitely going to be welcoming him back for a deep dive. Below are some ways to engage with us and a bit more about Nado. @kristinagenx, @vampire_insider, and please email us @ vampireinsider@gmail.com Nado has loved vampire stories ever since he was a little kid. His introduction to the genre was the first Blade film and his interest has only grown since then. His mom was a fan of Anne Rice's books and he'd seen bits of the 94 film as well as Queen of the Damned, which, for a long time, was his only reference point for the story. Although he'd seen rumblings of the IWTV television adaptation prior to the season one release, it wasn't until he saw that Jacob Anderson was going to be part of the show that he became excited about it. Vampire stories told from a black or POC perspective are rare, so seeing him play the titular character piqued Nado's interest. After season 1 episode 3, Nado started reading the books and he has been invested ever since. He is eager to see how the show will adapt the other books into the show's storyline. In today's episode its just Joann and Kristina talking Episode 6: Like the Light by which God Made the World Before he Made Light. This is a critical episode, that defines the term slow burn. We get into lots of details and hash over the huge mistake Armand makes at the end of it all, but the reality of this episode is that we spend a huge amount of time talking about Roxane Duran's amazing performance as Madeline and also discuss the narrative choice to make her character's background enmeshed with a German soldier during the occupation of Paris. We appreciate your continued patience in posting delays, we will be back on track next week. West Coast work travel meant a delay in editing. In today's episode Joann and Kristina welcome content creator and vampire superfan Black Girl Talk Fangs as we recap and react to S2E5 of Interview with the Vampire: Don't be Afraid, Just Start the Tape. We discuss the relationships between the triangle of Armand, Louis and Daniel in 1973 San Francisco and how the things uncovered about the first interview inform the way the three will interact in Dubai going forward. Our structure remains the same as last season but we've enhanced the “standout” segment and have added a new segment that tracks the progress of “Dreamstat” the Lestat projection who Louis carries with him, to Claudia's consternation. Below are some links to follow on Twitter (you may call it X). Thanks for coming to listen to us each week and welcome to those of you who are new to the series and new to the podcast. About Black Girl Talk Fangs: BGTF became an IWTV Superfan after watching the pilot episode in October 2022! She fell completely in love with Jacob and Sam's performances as Louis and Sam, New Orleans production, 1910s/1920s costumes shout out Carol Cutshall, and of course Daniel Hart's beautifully orchestrated musical scores. She was not an Anne Rice fan, and did not discover the show through reading The Vampire Chronicles growing up, but was familiar with the 1994 film with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Kirsten Dunst. She has always loved shows about vampires since age 11 watching "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and later "True Blood". Since finding the show, she has read IWTV book, The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief, and The Vampire Armand, she made a decision to get involved with AMC IWTV fandom after noticing that the show had little to no marketing behind it in 2022. So in November 2022, she created Black Girl Talk Fangs or BGTF on Instagram and other platforms to connect with fellow fans, and have been doing that ever since. IWTV fans sometimes ask how she came up with the BGTF name and her answer is: "I am a black girl who talks about vampires". BGTF, is a space for her to fangirl over the creative talents in front of the screen and behind it without spamming friends and family in private accounts. Follow BGTF on Instagram (@blackgirltalkfangs) and Discord where she takes deep dives into IWTV Season Two episodes and occasionally host rewatch parties. The Vampire Insiders have finally returned, albeit with an empty host chair. On April 2, 2024 we lost Marc Snediker unexpectedly to a brief illness. The Vampire Insiders are discussing an interview that Jacob Anderson gave to Entertainment Weekly (see link below). During the break between seasons, the Vampire Insiders are working through Joann's tech issues and are taking a few weeks off, but will be back with all new content on October 30. We are re promoting some earlier episodes in the meantime. Here is what we said about this episode when it first aired almost a year ago. In this episode, the Vampire Insiders discuss the differences in quality between the Vampires and the Witches, whether the uneven performance of the Witches stands to hurt the Vampires or an expanded Immortal Universe in anyway, and finally they discuss the Dark Gift asking: If you were offered the dark gift, would you take it?; which universe would you choose to inhabit; and are there any moral compunctions or issues that you find in that choice. We are re promoting some earlier episodes in the meantime. Here is what we said about this episode when it first aired almost a year ago. In this episode the Vampire Insider team hosts Stephanie Fornasier, a licensed psychologist and host of Psychocinematic Podcast (available on all the major and minor podcast directories). Steph is applying her professional opinion to a discussion of the relationship dynamics between the main characters of AMC's Interview with the Vampire, what their individual psychological profiles may be, and whether or not the toxic relationship at the heart of this show is portrayed in a realistic way. The VI team and Steph are approaching this subject with the understanding that these are fictional characters and vampires, so the discussion should be understood as a fun exercise, possibly informative, but not "real" diagnoses or an indictment of any of the characters. Trigger warning: we do get into the subjects of sexual assault and domestic violence as they were portrayed in season one of the show. Please come follow us on social media. @vampire_insider on twitter, vampire insider on facebook and reddit, and @vampire_insider_podcast on instagram and please check out Stephanie on Psychocinematic -- a podcast that examines the portrayal of mental illness, neurodivergence, and disability in film and television. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vampire-insider/message
During the inter-season break from IWTV, the vampire insiders are having conversations about the immortal universe shows and creature-related subjects. In this episode the insiders (minus Joann who had a week off due to sound issues) discuss the changes the main characters have undergone in the TV Show. Our main focus is on Lestat and the fandom reaction to the significant changes to his character, but we also get into Claudia, Louis, and Daniel and how the show writers have given them a bit of a refresh. We also dip into some opinion on how much (or how little) show writers should actually pay attention to fan opinion -- do they have an obligation to live into fan expectations or is it more artistically honest for them to ignore fan theories and hopes. During the inter-season break, the vampire insiders are working hard to keep the podcast fresh by doing deep dives into the episodes, chatting about other kinds of creature media and exploring the "Vampire Insider Writer's Room" in which we, with the permission of the author, read and discuss an excerpt from some terrific fan fiction. In this episode we discuss the 2012 Neil Jordan directed film Byzantium about a mother/daughter vampiric duo on the lam. We weave quite a bit of Interview With the Vampire chat into this conversation -- we found some interesting connections -- and we talk Anne Rice's significant impact on the vampire genre. This week's submission to the Vampire Insider Writer's Room is a sharp-toothed and sexy masterpiece by ModernDayLestat called Bite Me. It is an extremely spicy short story and Kristina, who loved it, had some struggles overcoming her shyness while reading it, but after a few funny false starts, we get into a great discussion about what blood sharing means to vampires. During the inter-season break, the vampire insiders are doing deep dives into the episodes, chatting about other kinds of creature media and in today's episode, we are looking hard at the 2002 film Queen of the Damned, which seems to have nothing to do with the source material except for the characters' names. From wikipedia: The vampire Lestat is awakened from decades of slumber by the sound of a hard rock band, and proceeds to take over as their lead singer. Achieving international success, Lestat, having revealed the existence of vampires, taunts the others of his kind during an interview for promoting his first and only live concert. Jesse Reeves, a researcher for the paranormal studies group Talamasca, is intrigued by Lestat's lyrics after hearing one of his songs play on TV and tells the rest of the group her theory that he really is a vampire. Her mentor, David Talbot, takes her aside and tells her they know what he is and that a vampire called Marius made him. David also shows her Lestat's journal. In the journal, Lestat recalls how he was turned into a vampire by Marius and how he awoke Akasha, the first vampire, with his music. Jesse tracks Lestat down to a London vampire club called The Admiral's Arms, where he saves her and confronts her about Marius. In Los Angeles, Lestat is visited by Marius, who warns him that the other vampires will not tolerate his flamboyant public profile. He begs him to cancel his concert, which he refuses. Meanwhile, awakened Akasha, who is searching for Lestat, arrives at The Admiral's Arms. After the vampires reveal their plan to kill Lestat Akasha torches the club. Jesse arrives at Los Angeles and gives Lestat his journal and asks him to show her what being a vampire is like. Lestat scoffs at the idea, but Jesse convinces him to spend his last moments before the concert with her. Jesse later asks Lestat to turn her, telling him she wants to be with him and that she wants to know everything he does. Lestat angrily refuses, and shows her what it's like for a vampire to feed aggressively on a human. While performing at his concert in Death Valley, a group of vampires attack Lestat. With Marius' help, they both fend off most of the vampires until Akasha bursts through the stage and takes Lestat with her. Akasha brings Lestat to her new home, where the two vampires have sexual intercourse, during which time Lestat becomes spellbound by Akasha and is forced to obey her, and Akasha proclaims Lestat her new king. After the concert, Jesse is taken to the home of her aunt, Maharet, who later reveals herself to be one of the Ancient Vampires. The Ancient Vampires discuss their plans to destroy the Queen by drinking from her and draining her of her blood. However, they believe that whoever drinks the Queen's last drop will not survive. Empowered by Akasha's blood, Lestat and the Queen confront the Ancient Vampires. When they refuse to join her, Akasha then commands Lestat to kill Jesse, as The Queen sees her both as an enemy, due to being Maharet's descendant, and as food, with Akasha making an example out of her for those who dare disobey her command. After drinking Jesse's blood, Lestat comes to his senses and is released from Akasha's power. Lestat then turns on her and begins to drain Akasha's blood. With the help of the Ancients, Akasha's power diminishes. Maharet is the last to drink Akasha's blood, killing Akasha. Lestat goes to Jesse and, cradling her in his arms, gives her his blood as Maharet turns into a marble statue and "sleeps"; the new Queen of the Damned. Lestat and Jesse visit David and return Lestat's journal. Jesse offers to turn David into a vampire to which he replies he's too old for immortality. Jesse then bids David goodbye and leaves with Lestat. A few moments later, David is greeted by Marius. The film closes with Lestat and Jesse walking hand in hand, among mortals, into the night. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vampire-insider/message

During the inter-season break from IWTV, the vampire insiders are having conversations about the immortal universe shows and creature-related subjects. In this episode Erica Robert Pallo is back for the second of a two-parter where she goes deep with the hosts about Armand, Daniel, Armand and Daniel's book relationship and speculations about what the heck is going on with Armand, Daniel and Louis and why is this interview even happening. This is a lot of conjecture and if you haven't read the books, you'll learn a lot about the source material that the show's writers are working with. Queen of the Damned and Vampire Armand Spoilers included, so if you don't want to be spoiled come back next week. Thank you for coming to listen to us each week. If you do like us, please share us with a friend! About Erica Erica Robert Pallo is a writer, media producer, library assistant, and independent scholar who loves a good story. And sometimes she even writes a decent one. As a narrative media maker, Erica has a background in just about every damn position on a film set (even stunts!) and has taught the wonders of cinema to children, university students, and professional adults aspiring to see their stories come to life on screen. Erica's nonfiction work spotlights unsung voices via ethnographic documentaries, digital archives, archaeological podcasts, and the preservation of women's historical writing. Oh, and a sprinkle of food culture projects, just to keep things trendy. Erica first read Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles as a budding young Punk Rocker that was still trapped in the body of a Catholic school girl. As a stage performer, visual artist, and passionate consumer of literature and pop culture, Erica had only her repressed fighting spirit to show for it. Then Lestat de Lioncourt and his merry band of bloodsuckers entered her life and away went her inhibitions, and her innocence. Thank God! Thank Anne Rice! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vampire-insider/message
