The highest-rated TV show of the year has officially been crowned with a perfect score, but we are intensely divided. We unpack the incredible acting transformations, the separation of page-to-screen adaptations, and an unexpected appearance by our fave ever British period-drama icon. Plus a chaotic annual awards ceremony just celebrated the very best of pop culture, and the pre-written acceptance speeches have left the internet (and us) in absolute stitches. It is pure comedic escapism that will save you from a boring afternoon. Finally, a scathing new magazine exposé has sent shockwaves through internet culture, threatening the downfall of a powerful podcast mogul. Allegations of public screaming, inappropriate office behaviour, and weaponised empowerment have left the mogul's reputation in severe jeopardy. We break down the legal fallout, the defence strategy, and the upcoming tell-all book set to blow this feud wide open. Read the Vanity Fair article here. Vampire Lestat Full Reaction Watch Along:   / thereelrejects   Check out the DC Studios: Showcase Podcast HERE https://app.magellan.ai/listen_links/... The Vampire Lestat Episode 1 Reaction & Review! Greg & Roxy are back for AMC's Anne Rice Immortal Universe as Interview with the Vampire Season 3 transforms into The Vampire Lestat with Episode 1, “Detroit”! Sam Reid returns as Lestat de Lioncourt, and this premiere goes FULL rockstar vampire madness. We react to the new punk aesthetic, Lestat performing in public, Daniel Molloy filming a documentary, the Louis and Armand auction scene, the fallout from Daniel's Interview with the Vampire book, and Lestat trying to take control of his own narrative in the most chaotic way possible. This episode gave us Sam Reid as rock god Lestat, Jacob Anderson's return as Louis, Eric Bogosian as vampire Daniel Molloy, the Detroit concert sequence, the Dracula's Daughter hotel chaos, the bloody coven fight, and that wild Gabriella de Lioncourt ending with Jennifer Ehle. The Vampire Lestat Episode 1 is a huge tonal shift from Interview with the Vampire, but still keeps the same themes of memory, unreliable narration, love, trauma, and gothic vampire insanity. What did you think of The Vampire Lestat premiere? Are you into the rockstar direction for Lestat, and where do you think this season is taking Louis, Daniel, Armand, Gabriella, and the rest of the Anne Rice Immortal Universe? This week, Tommy is joined by Jacob Anderson, star of Interview with the Vampire, for a thoughtful conversation about inhabiting one of television’s most complex characters. Jacob opens up about his connection to Louis de Pointe du Lac, the ways he differs from the character, and the emotional challenges of bringing Louis’ story to life. He reflects on filming the series while spending long stretches away from home, the trust he’s built with co-star Sam Reid, and how moments of humor behind the scenes help balance the show’s intense themes. He also shares the practices that keep him grounded during production, discusses some of his favorite scenes from the series, and reveals why the relationship between the cast has been so essential to the show's success. Beyond acting, Jacob talks about his love of storytelling, his fascination with behind-the-scenes filmmaking, and how his music career continues to influence his creative process. Plus, he teases new music on the horizon, reflects on parenthood and how kids keep him humble, and closes the episode with some surprising fears! On Tuesday, a legion of screaming fans packed the Beacon Theatre in New York City – arms outstretched for the glittery, long-haired rock star known as the Vampire Lestat.Of course, in reality, the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt and his touring band don't exist. He's the creation of beloved horror writer Anne Rice. And this version of him, played by actor Sam Reid, is the lead of AMC's television adaptation of Rice's books. But for the fans who packed the Beacon Theatre this week, these distinctions are unimportant. And it speaks to a shared commitment between the fans of Rice's vampiric world and the actors and creators behind the series who strive to honor it.The third season of “Interview with the Vampire's” begins airing Sunday. It's a departure from the first two – which focused on Louis de Point du Lac, played by actor Jacob Anderson, his transformation into a vampire, and his rocky relationship with his maker. The third season puts Lestat in the driver's seat – his perspective, his music, and a peak into his 200-year backstory. We sit down with the series showrunner and the actors to discuss the show's third season, honoring Rice's vision, and rocking out as a vampire.Find more of our programs online. Shall we begin like David Copperfield? "I am born…I grew up?" Or shall we begin about 120 years after Anne Rice's novel Interview with the Vampire took place, with AMC's brilliant TV adaptation shifting the story from Louis de Pointe du Lac as a wealthy white plantation owner in the 1790s to one where Louis is a Black man in the 1910s working the red light district to keep his family fed? That's one of the many brilliant changes Rolin Jones and his writers have made to Rice's beloved book, and Paul, Arlo, and Eric couldn't be happier. The gang discusses why these changes fit so well in a series driven by its characters' perceptions of reality; the beautiful work by a cast including Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, Eric Bogosian, Bailey Bass, Delainey Hayles, and Assad Zaman; and why, yes, this Interview is just better than the book.   NEXT: it's been a while since we've had a Four-Color Flashback, eh? Send us a Text Message.Happy Wine Wednesday! Terence is back with me to wrap up our coverage of the SPECTACULAR second season of AMC's Interview with the Vampire.  This was truly a bittersweet occasion because I have had such a blast talking to Terence about this amazing show and I'm sad to say farewell (for now) to the show and to my weekly chats with Terence about it.We had a lot of fun talking about these messy vampires in this finale episode.  We start the episode by delighting in Louis getting his lick back and serving up some fiery revenge to those coven bastards for what they did to Claudia and Madeline.  And of course we talk about the brilliance of Jacob Anderson as he captures Louis's madness. That final showdown with Santiago was EVERYTHING. Ben Daniels will truly be missed, but what a sendoff that was for his character who got the whackings he deserved from Louis.Next we talk about the SHOCKING revelations about the trial, which came as no surprise because Armand has repeatedly been revealed to be a lying liar who lies. We can't say enough good things about this cast, including the delight that Eric Bogosian brings to Daniel Molloy as he calmly and methodically ramps up to reveal to Louis that it was Lestat who saved him.We can't wait to see that home wrecking Daniel Molloy adjust to life as a vampire in Season 3.  Speaking of Season 3, we are SO ready for rock star Lestat and to see where things stand with Louis.  The Loustat reunion scene was so beautifully acted, so y'all know we had lots to say about it. Thanks so much for listening to our coverage! And of course we get into the shocking revelations in the episode that go back to Season 1, like the intense fight between Louis and Lestat and the night that Lestat gave Claudia the gift.We also continue to question what - if anything - we can believe about Armand in these memories.  We simply don't trust him! We close out our conversation giving a heartfelt farewell to Claudia and talking about the many ways in which she was failed as a human and then again as a vampire.  Salute to Delainey Haynes for a superb performance this season. In today's episode Joann and Kristina welcome IWTV fan and Jacob Anderson fan page curator Nado (@astronaut_Nado) who is here to help us dissect the events of season 2's penultimate episode: I Could Not Prevent It. This is a harrowing episode, one that we've been waiting for from the beginning, and one that has left so many fans heartbroken but in awe of the performances of each of the actors in this remarkable ensemble. Nado's contributions to this conversation were absolutely wonderful and we are so grateful that he agreed to join. We promise you'll want more of his thoughts and we are definitely going to be welcoming him back for a deep dive. Below are some ways to engage with us and a bit more about Nado. @kristinagenx, @vampire_insider, and please email us @ vampireinsider@gmail.com Nado has loved vampire stories ever since he was a little kid. His introduction to the genre was the first Blade film and his interest has only grown since then.  His mom was a fan of Anne Rice's books and he'd seen bits of the 94 film as well as Queen of the Damned, which, for a long time, was his only reference point for the story. Although he'd seen rumblings of the IWTV television adaptation prior to the season one release, it wasn't until he saw that Jacob Anderson was going to be part of the show that he became excited about it. Vampire stories told from a black or POC perspective are rare, so seeing him play the titular character piqued Nado's interest. After season 1 episode 3, Nado started reading the books and he has been invested ever since.  He is eager to see how the show will adapt the other books into the show's storyline.  You can find Nado @astronaut_nado on twitter and follow his Jacob Anderson fashion fan page on IG @jacobs_cl0set --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vampire-insider/message

One of the best shows on TV finally makes its return. This week, we review the first four episodes of Interview with the Vampire's second season. The second season finds Louis and Claudia on the run after supposedly killing Lestat, and the pair travel the world in search of more of their own kind. Does the new season live up to the series' pristine reputation?

On this week's show, the hosts begin by reviewing Babes, Pamela Adlon's (Better Things, Louie) directorial feature debut starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau. Through raunch-comedy and body horror, Babes explores childbirth and pregnancy through a refreshingly unromanticized lens, but does it succeed as a drama? Then, the three switch gears and turn to Interview With the Vampire, AMC's Anne Rice adaptation that's now in its second season. What a weird show! The series–starring Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Eric Bogosian as the titular cynical interviewer–brings the novel's queer subtext to the surface, and is camp in every sense of the word. Finally, the trio is joined by Mikael Wood, the Los Angeles Times' pop music critic to discuss Billie Eilish's latest album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. (You can read Wood's review here.) Produced with her brother Finneas, Hit Me Hard and Soft offers a new way of thinking about the 22-year-old, and features songs like “Birds of a Feather” and “Lunch,” a fun, lusty track about being into girls.  In the exclusive Slate Plus segment, the panel answers a question from long-time listener, James: “What things that you love have you been introduced to by advertising?” Email us at culturefest@slate.com.  Endorsements: Dana: This week's endorsement comes with a brag: Dana's daughter is going to Julliard! Through that, they discovered the wonderful documentary, Creating a Character: The Moni Yakim Legacy.  Julia: Two clarifications and an extremely sumptuous sweater recommendation. First, the fashion Substacks mentioned on a previous episode were I Want to be Her!, Girls of a Certain Age, and Blackbird Spyplane. Second, a wool sweater from Dana Lee Brown.  Stephen: The Time of the Last Persecution, an album by the English singer-songwriter Bill Fay, released in 1971.  Podcast production by Jessamine Molli. Production assistance by Kat Hong. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

After plenty of requests for coverage, we're finally caught up on AMC's Interview with the Vampire S01. Spoiler alert: we both strongly recommend this. Qualms about Sam Reid's accent aside, this show has everything: hot sex, unabashed queerness, race and class critiques, and Bailey Bass is as Claudia. Plus: thirsting after Jacob Anderson, vibing with Eric Bogosian's interviewer, and anticipating Ben Daniels in S02 Questions? Comments? Snark?
