THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta The sound of a nu metal band arouses the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt from a lengthy slumber, and he proceeds to take over as their lead singer. Achieving international success with the ensemble, which he names The Vampire Lestat, and having revealed the existence of vampires, he taunts his own kind during an interview to advertise his first and only live concert. Jesse Reeves, a researcher for the paranormal studies group Talamasca, is intrigued by his lyrics upon hearing one of his songs play on TV and tells the other members her theory that he really is a vampire. Her mentor, David Talbot, explains to her they already know of his identity and donates Lestat's journal that he recovered so that Jesse can read it, but warns her against pursuing Lestat. In the journal, Lestat recalls that in the winter of 1788, he was brought to a Mediterranean island and vampirized by Marius de Romanus, formerly a talented painter, and his violin playing awoke Akasha, the first vampire. Increasingly intrigued, Jesse tracks Lestat down to a London vampire club called The Admiral's Arms, where he saves her from three vampires and confronts her about Marius. Visiting Lestat in Los Angeles, Marius warns him that the other vampires will not tolerate his flamboyant public profile; he reveals that Lestat's music has awakened Akasha and unsuccessfully implores him to cancel his concert. Meanwhile, Akasha arrives at the coven, looking for Lestat. After the vampires reveal their plan to kill him at his concert, she torches the club and kills all the vampires inside. Arriving in Los Angeles, Jesse gives Lestat his journal back and asks him to show her what being a vampire is like. He scoffs at the idea, but she convinces him to spend time with her. She later enquires if he can convert her, expressing her desire to be with him and know everything he does. He angrily declines, demonstrating how a vampire preys on human blood before asking her if she truly wants to become one. Lestat is attacked by a group of vampires at his concert in Death Valley, and Marius aids him in defeating most of them until Akasha arrives and promptly carries Lestat with her to her home on an island resort. During their period of sexual intercourse, he becomes spellbound and subservient to her. Jesse awakens in the house where she lived as a child, in awe at the sight of her aunt, Maharet, who later reveals herself as a member of the Ancient Vampires. Fearing Akasha's plans for world domination, the Ancient Vampires decide to destroy her by draining her blood. However, they believe that whoever drinks her last drop will not survive. Akasha confronts the Ancient Vampires and interrupts their meeting, with Lestat, empowered by her blood, accompanying her. When they refuse to side with her, Akasha commands him to kill Jesse, seeing her both as an enemy due to being Maharet's descendant and as food, with Akasha planning to make an example out of her to dissuade disobedience. He ostensibly obeys, but after drinking Jesse's blood, comes to his senses and is released from Akasha's controlling influence. He demands his "crown", and as Akasha openly offers him her arm to feed on, he then turns on her and, aided by the Ancients, begins to drain her blood, diminishing her power; he goes to Jesse and, cradling her in his arms, donates his blood to her as Maharet, who has effectively killed Akasha by drinking her last drop of blood, turns into a marble statue and "sleeps", becoming the new Queen of the Damned.

Joanna Robinson and Van Lathan travel to Europe to recap the first six episodes of ‘Interview With the Vampire' Season 2. They start by discussing whether or not it's the best show on television right now, how it effectively depicts the cultural complexities of its settings, and why Jacob Anderson's nuanced performance as Louis de Pointe du Lac anchors the show (1:43). Along the way, they talk about how the AMC drama embraces the queer nature of the story and how Sam Reid's take on Lestat de Lioncourt is in stark contrast to Tom Cruise's in the 1994 film adaptation (13:04). Later, they consider the future of the series and what they want out of it moving forward (40:30). Happy Pride Month, Spookies!!!! It's officially time for us to be our best, most canonically queer selves, and we're kicking off this year's line-up with a supernatural classic: Interview with the Vampire (1994). If you're not watching the TV show, you totally should be, but first we have to pay our dues to the OG Lestat de Lioncourt. Tom Cruise is absolutely That Bitch in this role, and he and Brad Pitt and Christian Slater competed in a literal handsome-off for their parts in this movie (a competition that should've also included Antonio Banderas, BTW). While this flick explicitly features two gay dads raising their iconic vampire daughter, it still very much could be gayer — but don't worry, baby, because we're just getting started.
Woobies, poor little meow meows, anti-heroes, and problematic faves: in Episode 206, “Bad Fans Revisited,” Flourish and Elizabeth use a listener voicemail on investment in morally dubious fictional characters to revisit a perennial hot topic in fandom. Specifics discussed include the heightened language of performative tags, blurred lines between fiction and reality, what a dark AU can offer that a dark original story might not, and yes, Lestat de Lioncourt. Plus: Flourish lets you know how you, too, can become a Certified Villain Fucker (there's a test!).
Whoooo we're officially in the double-digits gang! We've somehow managed to make it to episode 10 of Indiescovery without going completely feral and wrecking the joint. I say that, but this week's episode is a little, shall we say, unhinged? Rebecca, Liam, and Rachel hadn't really had a proper chat all week so there's a lot of Friday energy and catching up, and the energy levels only increase when we start to talk about our main topic of this episode: Eurovision! And indie games, of course. Yes, it's a Eurovision-themed episode, and more specifically, which indie game characters we think would make the best Eurovision entries. We're looking for kooky, campy, gimmicky, vibrant, and super queer showstoppers. Oh and a good song would also help, too. But first, we kick off the pod with a chat about Disney World, as Rachel has just come back from a very fun but very tiring 10-day trip to Disney World Orlando. Then there's some very cursed Goofy chat, which we'll leave for you to listen to without spoilers. So which indie game characters do we think would make great Eurovision entries? Rebecca's first up with Monster Prom's Liam de Lioncourt, a hipster vampire with a love for eccentric music. Chuck a keytar in his hands and we think this topknot, suspender-wearing weirdo would go down a treat. Rachel and Rebecca then both agree on Junebug's performance from Kentucky Route Zero, is a mesmerising ballad that would knock the party hat off anyone in the audience. Liam's choice is the Chowder Man from Hypnospace Outlaw, a synth-rock entry whose major sweaty dad vibes would win the hearts of Europe. We also chuck some others into the mix including Lady Love Dies from Paradise Killer with her absolute banger of a track ‘Paradise (Stay Forever)', the Hades cast giving a super bi-sexual rock song in the same vein as Måneskin, any of Red's songs from Transistor, a drag queen pop anthem from Undertale's Mettaton, and (Liam's exact words) a yassified Harry Du Bois from Disco Elysium, which would be immense. There's a quick chat about what a Eurovision game adaptation world look like, be it a party game, visual novel, something like Just Sing, or a new Danganronpa game where each act gets a brutal execution. We also get back onto Disney again and look up the internet's top 10 hottest Disney characters, so enjoy that! We end the pod with our current hyperfixations. Rachel's is Eurovision (surprise surprise) and she's going all in this year with scorecards, Reddit threads, Twitter discourse and more. Rebecca's first pick is the Murder, She Wrote series from PushingUpRoses, a YouTube series she gave a shout-out to last episode, and the very good Ace Attorney podcast Turnabout Breakdown by Jay Castello and Diego Nicolás Argüello. Liam's first is murder mystery Grave Expectations by RPS' very own Alice Bell (whooo!) and his second is sci-fi novel Frontier by Grace Curtis. Indiescovery is a podcast by Rock Paper Shotgun. Our theme music is by Dylan Sitts, specifically the songs Tahoe Trip, Pool Sticker, and Express Check-in. It's episode 264...and it's your coffin, my love. Enjoy it. Most of us never get to know what it feels like. Interview With The Vampire (1994) spins a century-spanning yarn of epic proportions, following the listless slave plantation owner Louis de Pointe du Lac, as he is bitten and transformed into an immortal creature by vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. Much like a new parent, an apparently endless future of night feeds causes Louis to have an existential crisis lasting decades as he stands and morosely observes various comings and goings across New Orleans, Paris and San Francisco, eventually relating this to a journalist in the modern day for our pleasure(?). It's a bloody diet of ham and mince as Brad Pitt sulks, Tom Cruise camps it up and a 10-year old Kirsten Dunst steals the show, in what is an unusual and somewhat misguided and often boring Vampiric fable pondering the meaning of life. We discuss blatant homoeroticism, outline the unique qualities of the vampire interviewees, question the reasoning of an exclusively rat-based diet and ponder whether we've already passed the best time in our lives to be made eternal beings. What other dark gifts might we find? There's only one way to find out. All of which leads to one question: How would you survive? Whatever happens, one thing's for sure: I was mortal until you gave me your immortal kiss. Next time, it's the start of David Cronenberg Season with Videodrome (1983).

Are you ready to move on from zombies, and onto another creature of the night? Now, Vampires by no means have been sheltered from their fame, as they've definitely had their moments to shine as well. BUT, now seems like a great chance to dip back into the Vampire genre, and there is no better story to do that with, than Interview with the Vampire! "Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire, or simply Interview with the Vampire, is an American gothic horror and vampire television series created by Rolin Jones, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Anne Rice. It stars Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, Sam Reid as the vampire and Louis' lover Lestat de Lioncourt, Bailey Bass as teenage vampire Claudia, Assad Zaman as ancient vampire Armand and Eric Bogosian as journalist Daniel Molloy. The series embraces the homosexual elements of Rice's work, which are only insinuated in the 1994 film adaptation of the novel. It is the first television series in Rice's Immortal Universe." Hailing from a sleepy town in California's Central Valley, a place without the musical legacy of San Francisco or Sacramento, Lioncourt reflect the darker side of Hard Rock and the macabre. Together, the band digs up the ghosts of hard rocks more illustrious past with a sound that is at times familiar but brings an entirely new (and might we say haunting) vibe to modern music. In each of our lives, there's a singular moment when you know you've got one shot to get it right: a wedding vow, a eulogy, naming your first born. For Ash and Gene, this is that moment. "Interview with the Vampire" was the film that birthed them into the Darkness, a love letter to their sacred New Orleans, and the key to their portals of lust. But fear not, mortals, Big D is here to guide you through the catacombs of this 1994 gothic horror classic, keeping the podcast grounded lest we sink into Death and never surface. Is "Interview with the Vampire" timeless and immortal in its perfection, or have the years left it disconnected from a confusingly modern world? Is Tom Cruise truly Lestat de Lioncourt or just a silly little man in a bad wig? And most importantly: Is Louis de Pointe du Lac a "bitch role," or is Brad Pitt the most gorgeously brooding creature on Earth? To explore these questions, you won't need a crucifix (we're particularly fond of looking at them), just a strong stomach, an even stronger will, and contraceptives to protect yourself from the flood of infernal sex magic coming your way. Gerard talks to West Midlands-based Lioncourt Homes chief executive Colin Cole, whose tenacious approach to finance saw him launch the private firm in 2006 alongside a strategic land division, as what has termed “a mini-plc housebuilder". The business is backed by up to 100 investors, who helped drive it through the crash of 'the noughties' to become one of the Sunday Times top 100 fastest growing businesses in the UK, for four consecutive years. Previously, rising through the ranks at Westbury plc through the 80s and 90s to become executive director and divisional chairman, Colin was an integral part of a management buyout at the business as well as numerous acquisitions and ultimately helped facilitate the housebuilder's £950 million sale to Persimmon in 2005. In this podcast, he gives an insight into his extraordinary career and what's driven his success. He highlights the qualities of strategic focus, work ethos and organisational culture that he believes are integral to his businesses strength and resilience.

What happens when you take strong subtext, immortal beings, and over forty years of writing? It's not fanfic, but it is a fascinating history of the Vampire Chronicles fandom! **History and Origins:** > The Vampire Chronicles is a series of novels by American writer Anne Rice that revolves around the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman turned into a vampire in the 18th century. > > — [Wikipedia - The Vampire Chronicles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Vampire_Chronicles) The book series encompasses 16 separate novels (including crossovers) from 1976 to 2018, and has been adapted into films—Interview with the Vampire in 1994, starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater, and Kirsten Dunst; and The Queen of the Damned in 2002—and as of July 2018, it was announced that a TV series adaptation of the novels is in development by Hulu. **Search Data:** Interest in _The Vampire Chronicles_ [has been on a slow decline since 2004](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F02f5gv,%2Fm%2F02p76f9,%2Fm%2F0mb0). The series enjoyed a small lift in interest around November 2009 which buoyed interest in the series for several years afterwards until July 2018 where interest spiked again (most likely due to the Hulu's announcement). The top ten countries differ slightly depending on whether or not you're looking at the entire series, or _Interview with the Vampire_: - _The Vampire Chronicles_: Spain, Romania, Hungary, Mexico, Chile, Philippines, Uruguay, United States, Poland, Venezuela (Canada is 13th). - _Interview with the Vampire_: Mexico, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Chile, China, Latvia (United States is 20th, Canada is 23rd). [//A better question might be, why vampires ever? Looking back, it's hard to think of a period when we weren't in the middle of a vampire craze. In the late 1970s, Anne Rice started raking in the money with Interview With the Vampire, and movies like Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre and the comedy Love at First Bite were critical hits. Then came The Lost Boys, Near Dark, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Innocent Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie), four more Anne Rice books, and Interview With the Vampire (the movie)—which could all be lumped into a rage for vampires that lasted clear through from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. Vampires were back again in the mid-1990s, with Buffy (the TV show), the Blade movies, Southern Vampire Mysteries (the book series), and From Dusk Till Dawn. And now we've arrived at the highly touted mid- to late-2000s vogue of Underworld, Twilight (books and movies), True Blood (based on Southern Vampire Mysteries), and The Vampire Diaries.]: # [// and compiled a list of the most important vampire-related books, films, and TV shows of the last half-century.
