In today's episode its just Joann and Kristina talking Episode 6: Like the Light by which God Made the World Before he Made Light. This is a critical episode, that defines the term slow burn. We get into lots of details and hash over the huge mistake Armand makes at the end of it all, but the reality of this episode is that we spend a huge amount of time talking about Roxane Duran's amazing performance as Madeline and also discuss the narrative choice to make her character's background enmeshed with a German soldier during the occupation of Paris.
Healing and Talking with Karen Owens One of the most important functions of stories is to remind us we are not alone. We can hear a person's story, feel the emotions that come up, identify with it or feel compassion, and heal together. Karen is using the power of sharing our stories to do just that. In her work at GiGi's Playhouse, she gives a voice and platform to a community to bring people together for support and learning. In her new podcast, she is sharing her own story and inviting others to share theirs for the purpose of healing as a community and talk about those things that can make us feel alone. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Be inspired by Karen's work with GiGi's Playhouse at Hoffman Estates, serving individuals with Down syndrome, their families and community. Her mission is to empower them with a platform and voice to celebrate and share their lives. Hear how she followed her passion to serve the Down syndrome community and became a social media manager. Listen to Karen's skillful storytelling and how she uses stories of transformation to offer healing to her community. Resources: My first book, Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate, is available on Amazon and Audible. Grab your copy now! Visit Karen on Instagram Listen to Karen's NEW podcast, Talking and Healing AnchorFM┃Spotify Check out Gigi's Playhouse, Hoffman Estates Instagram┃website Episode Highlights 12 Year Old Entrepreneur Karen sold cookies, lemonade, and offered babysitting services. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to meeting a child with Down syndrome and his family that loved him unconditionally. Her babysitting experience was a blessing and changed her heart and life. “without [what those children gave me] in my life, I wouldn't be the person that I am”. Later in her life she worked as a teacher for children with special education needs. GiGi's Playhouse Karen's heart for children with Down syndrome led her to the non-profit organization, GiGi's Playhouse. They serve individuals with Down syndrome, their parents and community. Their mission is to change the way the world views Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all. As with most non-profit organizations, everyone often wears many hats. Karen's talent for visual teaching and graphics made her the obvious choice for social media management. Honoring Our Heart's Desire Ten years ago, Karen and her friend Val were trying to launch their work in building community around storytelling. Divorce, working three jobs, and other life struggles made them press pause on their dream. Ten years later, they are picking up where they left off and last month, Karen and Val launched their first podcast called Talking and Healing. Turning Our Struggles into A Community of Healing and Growing Karen's childhood was riddled with unpredictability, instability, and lack of safety as she grew up with a father who suffered from schizophrenia. Trauma response and coping mechanisms have served her at times and hurt her in others. Karen's growth and continued healing has inspired her to create a space and community for healing. Inspiration and Motivation Karen is a member of the Powerhouse Women where she is a part of the inspiration and community that she seeks to build and pass on. When there is self-doubt or things get hard “Heidi and all the Powerhouse Women keep me going… it's about watching all the stories and seeing all the bigger picture and possibilities”. “My mom's struggles inspire me. She was so beat down when I was young… she didn't think she was good enough”. Saving the World Before 5:30 a.m. Karen's morning routine starts as soon as her eyes pop open and she jumps out of bed. She makes her bed, clears the kitchen, and goes into her quiet and peaceful office. Karen schedules everything including working out. By 8 am, Karen has done more than most! About Karen Karen lives in Illinois with her three dogs and husband. She has three adult children and two step daughters that are always on her heart. Karen has a background in teaching special education and special needs children and is now the social media manager of the Hoffman Estates location of GiGi's Playhouse. There she uses social media to share the joy, beauty, and success of individuals with Down syndrome. If that's not enough, last month, she and her dear friend Val launched their first episode in her new podcast called Talking and Healing! Enjoy the Podcast? Episode #38– The World Before the Flood Using the Bible as our authoritative roadmap and guide, what would we experience living in on Planet Earth BEFORE the Flood? It would be ‘different'! Today's episode contrasts the lens (or worldview) of scientists and experts who do NOT accept the truthfulness of the Flood story as a way of explaining events such as the Grand Canyon, the disappearance of dinosaurs and the formation of fossil fuels like coal and oil… with the Bible account. Does the Bible offer a reasonable theory to what we see, hear and are taught concerning ‘early man'? Well….. YES, it does! Also check out the Facebook page of this podcast for resources

"A Lie Can Travel Halfway Around the World Before the Truth Puts On its Shoes" has been attributed to Mark Twain (and almost everyone else). This episode is the most significant audio project I've ever started. My Dad, Humberto Gonzalez, isn't just my idol and best friend, he's an executive that has built and sold three $100M+ companies, in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. But here, we focus on his ONE BIG FAILURE before recapping a remarkable career as a business executive and entrepreneur. It's as much a masters class on the importance of cash flow in your business model, as an introspection into overconfidence and loss. As you'll hear in the second half of the episode, my dad has had an epic life since fleeing Fidel Castro's Cuba with his family as a teenager shortly after the Cuban Revolution, pioneering tech and leverage buyout in the 80s, the building multiple $100M companies. I plan to make his life into a multiple part series that will either be its own project or released in this podcast. I'd LOVE to know what you think... should I prioritize this story or continue doing other interviews? Shoot me an email to youshould@connectwithpablo.com (clever e-mail... I know... it was Nathan Ruff's idea, founder and CEO of Rabbit)Thank you to my mentee, Nikola Ivanov, for all the time stamps to all my episodes. You can also send us an email to walkingdead@talkthroughmedia.com or call our new voicemail at 216-232-6146. macro plot issues vs. Micro plot issues. I just had a brilliant idea pop into my head to explain the problems with fear versus the problems with The Walking Dead And this episode is a good example of the two. Sometimes, The Walking Dead suffers from micro plot issues. In other words how something happens in a scene or the explanation for a particular action, like them all going into the cave or Michonne going off in a boat, is poorly executed. The problem on fear is a macro plot ssue. It’s not the mostly the little things that they do from scene to scene that cause issues, although it still has problems with micro plot issues, the problem with fear is that there are issues with the entire story arc. Those are much more severe and problematic. Ratings are surprisingly down for a mid-season finale… Ratings for S10E8 The World Before are lower than last week. It got a 1.02 in the 18-49 demographic, with 3.214 million viewers. This is down from last week, which got a 1.12 in the 18-49 and 3.311 million viewers. That 1.02 means the show is going into the break at its all-time low ratings for the show in its 10-season history. That doesn’t bode well for the second half, which is historically lower than the first half. Talking Dead was down as well. It got a 0.29 in the 18-49 demographic, with 1.133 million viewers, down from 0.41 and 1.380 million last week.

What I mean is that some of the traps found in dungeons seem really illogical to me. Who resets / reloads them all the time? Why is it worth preparing them? Nancy Pearl tells Steve Scher she has become intrigued by a few new memoirs. Sometimes she finds the writing in memoirs swinging a little too close to wince-worthiness. But of course, the genre is also capable of producing truly memorable stories. Nancy enjoyed a new work by Roger Cohen of the New York Times, "The Girl From Human Street: Ghosts Of Memory In A Jewish Family." It never descends into pathos. Also, Kate Moses, “Cakewalk: A Memoir.” She says it’s a lovely book where each chapter ends with a recipe.
