We all have virtues we naturally enjoying growing. I could spend hours on spiritual reading. But ... I am not a Dominican, I'm a wife and mother. So what virtues do I need to grow in? While spiritual reading is wonderful and necessary, as I've said before, virtues such as patience, diligence, dying to self, and custody of tongue need nurturing just as much, if not more so. This book has changed my marriage. But even more than that, it has changed my walk with God and how I even look at my life. I've been with Ryan 21 years, married 15. I have studied how to be a proper wife since I was 20 years old. Yet, this book has taken my place in my home, my marriage, the greater world to an ordered place of peace and joy I didn't know existed. Stephanie isn't saying anything new, but unfortunately to most of my generation, it's like Josiah reading Holy Scripture to Judah after The Word of the Lord was found (2 Kings 22:11-20 to 23:1-3). It feels new because it was lost and is now being found. To view this video, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meKsRQlQslU (Season Winter 2022, Aired 3.9.2022)*Note: for more links, see video description2022 Podcast Video Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOCE13bnSFt5_durQOeippxaNOnjmqCztWEBSITE: https://whatlauralikes.comJoin the What Laura Likes Community: community.whatlauralikes.comSupport the show

Fasting is important. As Jesus states, some prayer requires fasting. Yet, it's not a regular practice of most Catholic women. In this episode I share what the requirements of the Church are today, as well as why, and how, we can fast as Catholic mothers.Precepts of the Catholic Church1. To go to Mass and refrain from servile work on Sundays and holy days2. To go to Confession at least once a year (traditionally done during Lent) 3. To receive the Eucharist at least once a year, during the Easter Season (known as the “Easter duty”)4. To observe the days of fasting and abstinence5. To help to provide for the needs of the Church according to one's abilities and station in life6. To obey the marriage laws of the ChurchHistory of Fasting: https://youtu.be/8_b2ULa26loVirtue of Fasting (Fr Ripperger): https://youtu.be/ySosOgOog7QMatt 17:20: “But this kind is not cast out but by prayer and fasting.”Mark 9:28: “And he said to them: This kind can go out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”To view this video, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DGNMdYz6QU (Season Winter 2022, originally aired 3.2.2022)*Note: for more links, see video description on YouTube 2022 Podcast Video Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOCE13bnSFt5_durQOeippxaNOnjmqCzt WEBSITE: https://whatlauralikes.comJoin the What Laura Likes Community: community.whatlauralikes.comSupport the show
