Many gay men and women have been told that God doesn't love them and that religious people hate them. The reality is much more humane and helpful. Dr. Janet E Smith discusses how many gay people, who previously thought that God and religious people hated them, have come to know God's love through the efforts of humble individuals who took the time to minister to them. Professor Smith is the author of Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later and A Right to Privacy. Her volume entitled Self-Gift contains her previously published essays on Humanae Vitae and the thought of John Paul II. She edited Why Humanae Vitae is Right: A Reader; Life Issues, Medical Choices (with Christopher Kaczor); Living the Truth in Love: Pastoral Approaches to Same-Sex Attractions (with R. Paul Check); and Why Humanae Vitae is Still Right, a reader with 21 essays by various authors. More than two million copies of her talk, “Contraception: Why Not” have been distributed. Professor Smith served three terms as a consulter to the Pontifical Council on the Family, and 8 years on the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission III. She authors a regular column for the National Catholic Register and has appeared on Geraldo, Fox Morning News, CNN International, CNN Newsroom, AlJazeera, and EWTN among others. Professor Smith has received three honorary doctorates and several awards for her scholarship and service. Join Colby and Tom as they reflect on Pope Paul VI's document, Humane Vitae, that caused a rupture in the Catholic Church when it was released 55 years ago today. The document was misrepresented by many in the church at the time but it played a very significant role in St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body. During this episode we will also hear from Adele and Mrs Brenda DesOrmeaux who give us a historical look at Humane Vitae and share some of it's prophecies that have come true. If you would like to read Humane Vitae the link below will take you directly to the Vatican's website to view the document. https://www.vatican.va/content/paul-vi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-vi_enc_25071968_humanae-vitae.html

Humane Vitae is the most controversial of papal encyclicals, restating the Church's opposition to artificial birth control. It also marked a moment in the shift of the authority of the Church. It was Pope Paul VI last encyclical. Was it prophetic or a disastrous overreach?

In today's episode, Randall and Kris sit down with Rickard Newman to discuss Humane Vitae. Humane Vitae is a papal encyclical written by Pope St. Paul VI in 1968 that seeks to give the beautiful and clear teaching of God's plan for married love and the transmission of life. This teaching can help to form us in living and proclaiming God's gifts of love and life between husband and wife as He ordained it to be.

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, hosts Trey and Stephanie Cashion welcomed first-time guests, Jessica and Shaun McAfee. Shaun is a Catholic writer and blogger; Jessica is a certified Creighton-method NFP practicioner. The Cashions invited them on to discuss the chapter they contributed to the new collection from Catholic Answers Press, Inseparable: Five Perspectives on Sex, Life, and Love in Defense of Humanae Vitae. The McAfees reviewed how their conversion to Catholicism was strengthned by studying Humane Vitae and gave several examples of how they have made the truths of the document part of how they raise their own children to treasure and protect their innocence. On this week's programme Shane chats with Dr. Thomas Finegan of Mary Immaculate College on the 50th anniversary of Humanae Vitae. Dr. Finegan speaks about the background leading up to the Encyclical, what is actually contained in Humanae Vitae, why it was prophetic in terms of sexual morality today and what we can still learn from Humane Vitae today.
It is the 50th year anniversary since the release of Human Vitae, Pope VI historical and prophetic encyclical on human sexuality and birth control. Adam Storey joins us to look at the four prophetic teachings that have now come to be over the past 50 years.
Union with God is a foretaste of Heaven. The elements required for this experience are outlined in today’s show. “Humanae Vitae made me embrace the Church again”. These words spoken by our guest, Mallory Smyth of ENDOW, are both gripping and also echo the hearts of many women whose hearts have been touched by the profound words of Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae. Fifty years ago, July 25, The Church and the world received this church document and the words are just as important today: “The transmission of human life is a most serious role in which married people collaborate freely and responsibly with God the Creator. It has always been a source of great joy to them, even though it sometimes entails many difficulties and hardships. The fulfillment of this duty has always posed problems to the conscience of married people, but the recent course of human society and the concomitant changes have provoked new questions. The Church cannot ignore these questions, for they concern matters intimately connected with the life and happiness of human beings.” These are the treasures of wisdom gifted to us from Jesus through Mother Church. Please consider supporting our Podcast Our Guest: Mallory Smyth speaks around the country on topics such as catholic worldview, inheritance of faith and the feminine genius. Mallory fell in love with Jesus during her junior year at Louisiana State University and entered into full-time ministry after working one year as an accountant. She served as a FOCUS missionary for five years and is currently the director of program growth for ENDOW, Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women. It is her dream to see Catholics fall deeply in love with the God who loved them first, fully living the joy of the Gospel. Mallory currently lives in Denver with her husband, Jared and their two daughters, Penelope and Eliza.
