Many gay men and women have been told that God doesn't love them and that religious people hate them. The reality is much more humane and helpful. Dr. Janet E Smith discusses how many gay people, who previously thought that God and religious people hated them, have come to know God's love through the efforts of humble individuals who took the time to minister to them.   Professor Smith is the author of Humanae Vitae: A Generation Later and A Right to Privacy. Her volume entitled Self-Gift contains her previously published essays on Humanae Vitae and the thought of John Paul II.   She edited Why Humanae Vitae is Right: A Reader; Life Issues, Medical Choices (with Christopher Kaczor); Living the Truth in Love: Pastoral Approaches to Same-Sex Attractions (with R. Paul Check); and Why Humanae Vitae is Still Right, a reader with 21 essays by various authors.   More than two million copies of her talk, “Contraception: Why Not” have been distributed.   Professor Smith served three terms as a consulter to the Pontifical Council on the Family, and 8 years on the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission III.   She authors a regular column for the National Catholic Register and has appeared on Geraldo, Fox Morning News, CNN International, CNN Newsroom, AlJazeera, and EWTN among others. The document was misrepresented by many in the church at the time but it played a very significant role in St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body. During this episode we will also hear from Adele and Mrs Brenda DesOrmeaux who give us a historical look at Humane Vitae and share some of it's prophecies that have come true. “Humanae Vitae made me embrace the Church again”. These words spoken by our guest, Mallory Smyth of ENDOW, are both gripping and also echo the hearts of many women whose hearts have been touched by the profound words of Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae. Fifty years ago, July 25, The Church and the world received this church document and the words are just as important today: “The transmission of human life is a most serious role in which married people collaborate freely and responsibly with God the Creator. It has always been a source of great joy to them, even though it sometimes entails many difficulties and hardships. The fulfillment of this duty has always posed problems to the conscience of married people, but the recent course of human society and the concomitant changes have provoked new questions. The Church cannot ignore these questions, for they concern matters intimately connected with the life and happiness of human beings.”  These are the treasures of wisdom gifted to us from Jesus through Mother Church. Please consider supporting our Podcast Our Guest: Mallory Smyth speaks around the country on topics such as catholic worldview, inheritance of faith and the feminine genius. Mallory fell in love with Jesus during her junior year at Louisiana State University and entered into full-time ministry after working one year as an accountant. She served as a FOCUS missionary for five years and is currently the director of program growth for ENDOW, Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women. It is her dream to see Catholics fall deeply in love with the God who loved them first, fully living the joy of the Gospel. Mallory currently lives in Denver with her husband, Jared and their two daughters, Penelope and Eliza.   Show Notes: ENDOWgroups.Org What They Didn’t Teach You in Sex Ed, by Vicki Thorne Humanae Vitae, 50 Years Later: Progress or Regress?, by Janet Smith at Christendom Girl Genius I – Defining Dignity, by Endow Groups Letter to Women, by Pope John Paul ii The God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins Call to Action –  Let us not be afraid to unearth the treasures of The Church, especially Humane Vitae. Monseñor Munilla: «¿En qué cree Europa? Perplejidad identitaria y peligro islamista»
