From Not Enough to More Than Enough Today's Homily unites two biblical moments: First, The Gospel (Mark 8: Feeding of the Four Thousand) reveals Christ's deep compassion for humanity wandering in a spiritual “wilderness.” The crowd cannot sustain itself; human resources are insufficient. Yet when the disciples offer their “not much” . . . seven loaves and a few fish . . . Jesus transforms scarcity into abundance. This miracle foreshadows the Eucharist: Christ continues to feed the world through His Church, using humble means to accomplish divine grace. Second, The First Reading (Jeroboam and the Divided Kingdom) shows the opposite movement. Jeroboam, though raised up by God, becomes insecure and replaces true worship with convenient, man-made alternatives. He prefers control, comfort, and political security over trust in the Lord. This leads to spiritual decline and instability for Israel. The contrast is deliberate: • Jeroboam grasps, mistrusts, and substitutes human solutions → leading to loss. • The disciples surrender their inadequacy to Christ → leading to superabundance. The Homily and scripture message for today is clear: we must not reshape faith around convenience or personal preference. Instead, we entrust our poverty, weakness, and “not enough” to Christ, who alone can transform them into saving grace . . . especially through Word and Sacrament. The Homily concludes with a correlation of today's theme with Montfort's teachings. Hear more within the Homily. Listen to From Not Enough to More Than Enough --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Art Work The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes: Italian painter: Giovanni Lanfranco: 1620 The painting was commissioned for and may be found in the Blessed Sacrament chapel in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gospel Reading: Mark 8: 1-10 First Reading: 1 Kings 12: 26-32; 13: 33-34 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why was this image selected: The image dramatically captures Christ at the center of action, emphasizing divine power working through ordinary bread and human participation. The painting mirrors the sermon's central truth: what seems insufficient becomes inexhaustible in Christ's hands.

Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 19 January 2026, is Edward III's Breton campaign.King Edward III of England led a campaign in the Duchy of Brittany in 1342 and 1343. England, at war with France since 1337 in the Hundred Years' War, had sided with John of Montfort's faction in the Breton Civil War soon after it broke out in 1341. The French king, Philip VI, supported Charles of Blois, who was his nephew. By August 1342 Charles had captured John and reduced his partisans back to just one fortification, Brest in western Brittany. An English fleet broke the blockade of Brest on 18 August. On 30 September a numerically inferior English army inflicted a heavy defeat on the French at the battle of Morlaix.Edward was supposed to arrive with the next contingent of his army shortly after the first, but had severe difficulties gathering sufficient shipping. On 6 October he abandoned his siege train and set sail with those troops he was able to embark onto the available ships. They reached Brittany on 26 October after a storm-wracked three-week passage, and Edward advanced on the major Breton town of Vannes. The naval component went ahead, but was mauled by a force of mercenary galleys and then failed in an attempt to take Vannes by a coup de main. The land component was delayed building siege engines before attempting to storm the town on 29 November. The newly reinforced French garrison repelled this assault and a siege began.English raiding parties devastated large parts of eastern Brittany, but attempts to reinforce or supply Edward from England failed. A large French army was raised with difficulty and advanced to Malestroit, 18 miles (29 km) from the English camp. Philip moved his court to Brittany and entered into negotiations with Edward. The Truce of Malestroit, which was supposed to pause hostilities for three-and-a-half years, was agreed on 19 January 1343. It is widely seen as favouring the English. Edward arrived back in England on 1 March. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:11 UTC on Monday, 19 January 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Edward III's Breton campaign on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Ivy.

#endtimes #catholic #ourladyToday is the last Sunday of the liturgical year and it represents the end of time. That is why the Church gives us a Gospel passage of Our Lord speaking about the Last Judgment.Whenever Our Lord speaks of the Last Judgment, He wants to give us certain means by which we may identify it, while at the same time He does not want to tell us when it will happen. Rather, He wants us to always watch and be ready for His coming.Today, I would like to speak about some other general information about the Last Judgment and the End Times. We do not have this information from the Gospels but from a saint. This information comes from St. Louis de Montfort and it concerns the role of Our Lady in the End Times. We have to understand St. Louis' perspective on the Providence of God. It is that God the Trinity desired to make use of Our Lady in every aspect of the work of the Redemption and salvation of mankind. This was a free choice on the part of God because of the fact that He is almighty and does not need anyone. It is not that He needs to make use of Our Lady; it is that He wills to do so out of His goodness.Think of a situation in the home where the father is fixing a door. He is the most capable member of the family to do it and he does not need anyone's help. But he chooses to ask his daughter to help him, for her sake. He wants to spend time with her, he wants her to learn, and he wants her to be a part of the upkeep of the house.Something similar goes on with our salvation. It's like the door into Heaven was broken and could not be used any more. The heavenly Father is going to fix it. He does not need anyone to help Him to do so. But He chooses to ask one of the members of the human race, the ones who broke the door, to help Him in fixing the door.He asks Our Lady for her help and she consents. By her consent, one of the members of the human race that is being redeemed and saved participates in the work to save us.We all know what this meant for Our Lady during her lifetime. She consented to become the Mother of Our Lord. She took care of Him during His hidden life. She requested Him to perform His first miracle. She accompanied Him during His public life and was with Him at the foot of the Cross.During the first centuries of the Church, Marian devotion was present but was not very strong. As the centuries go by, Our Lady becomes more and more known. She becomes more honored. Catholics understand better the role that God gave her. They start to make more use of devotions to her, like the Office of Our Lady and the Rosary that she revealed to St. Dominic. Our Lady herself begins to reveal herself more through apparitions: her apparitions to St. Dominic, St. Simon Stock, the founders of the Servite Order—all these in the Middle Ages. Then, the more modern apparitions to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, to St. Catherine Laboure in Paris, and to the three children of Fatima.St. Louis de Montfort notices these two things and he applies them to the end times: a) God wants to make use of Our Lady in the whole of the work of our Redemption and salvation; b) God wants Our Lady to become more and more known over time. From the realization of this plan of divine Providence, he draws a conclusion: “It was through Mary that the salvation of the world was begun, and it is through Mary that it must be consummated… In the second coming of Jesus Christ, Mary has to be made known and revealed by the Holy Ghost in order that, through her, Jesus Christ may be known, loved and served… God wishes to reveal and make known Mary, the masterpiece of His hands, in these latter times” (True Devotion, par. 49-50).
A six-foot-two prince who loved tournaments, outfoxed a revolution, and nearly died on crusade returns to build castles that still dominate the Welsh coast and to bend Scotland to his will until Robert the Bruce strikes back. We follow Edward I's path from a devoted crusader to the architect of a more centralised, harder-edged medieval state, where finance, logistics, and image mattered as much as swords. Along the way, we discuss the political craft behind his parliaments, the Italian bankers who kept his campaigns moving, and the trade-offs needed to fund his empire. We don't shy away from the darkness. The 1290 expulsion of England's Jews reveals the brutal alignment of prejudice and power. So does the battlefield assassination of Simon de Montfort at Evesham and the legal sleight that turned Scottish arbitration into overlordship. For all that Edward comes across as very human. His marriage with Eleanor of Castile was unusually close for the age, marked by shared journeys, many children, and the Eleanor Crosses erected on her death. If Wales became Edward's lasting triumph in stone and statute, Scotland proved a different matter. It was larger, more resilient, and capable of rebirth under Bruce. And on the continent, a friendly France turns hostile, tricking the king into surrendering Gascony leading to a war England can barely support.Edward does indeed emerge a ruler both great and terrible: a master of war and administration who built a stronger English polity while leaving scars at home and abroad. If you care about medieval power - crusader ideology versus realpolitik, taxes versus consent this episode will sharpen your view of how states harden and why reputations endure. Meditations on the Mysteries of the Rosary The Sorrowful Mysteries Where Wisdom Dwells: Suffering, Redemption, and the Sorrowful Mysteries This conference explores the deep meaning of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, . . . . . . emphasizing that the heart of these mysteries is The Cross of Christ, the fullest revelation of God's unconditional, unmerited love for humanity. The conference explains that while the Rosary traditionally seemed to bypass the public ministry of Jesus, the early Church understood His ministry as presupposed in the proclamation of His passion, death, and resurrection . . . the core of apostolic preaching. The Cross of Christ The conference highlights that the cross exposes both the radical depth of human sin (understood as love rejected) and the redemptive power of suffering when united with Christ. Drawing on St. Louis de Montfort and Scripture, the conference shows that suffering without Christ is destructive, but suffering with Christ becomes a path to holiness, hope, and resurrection. Each of the five Sorrowful Mysteries is then examined: 1. Agony in the Garden: Jesus' anguish reveals the weight of His mission and perfect obedience. The disciples' betrayal and abandonment invite us to stay spiritually awake, embrace suffering with Christ, and cultivate contrition. 2. Scourging at the Pillar: This mystery summarizes the rejection of Jesus—by His people, His closest followers, the crowds, and His executioners—mirroring humanity's own tendency to refuse God's love. 3. Crowning with Thorns: The mock coronation exposes our inclination to choose worldly “kings” over Christ. Mary's presence urges repentance and conversion. 4. Carrying of the Cross: Our attitude toward our personal crosses reveals our discipleship. With Christ, the cross becomes a treasure, a sign of victory, and our lifelong standard. 5. Crucifixion: At the foot of the cross, Mary stands united with Jesus, witnessing the reversal of the Fall . . . where Adam grasped the fruit of a tree, Christ now gives Himself as the true fruit that brings life. The conference concludes by reaffirming that the Sorrowful Mysteries draw us into the heart of God's love and the mystery of redemption accomplished through the cross. 10/29/25 - Servant of God Frank Duff (1889–1980) was an Irish layman whose deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary led to the founding of the Legion of Mary in Dublin in 1921. Rooted in the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort, Duff encouraged ordinary Catholics to become apostles through prayer, humility, and personal outreach. His vision transformed lay involvement in the Church, inspiring millions across the world to serve Christ through Mary. Duff worked tirelessly among Dublin's poor, homeless, and marginalized, seeing in each person the image of God. His collaborators, Venerable Edel Quinn and Servant of God Alfie Lambe, carried the Legion's mission to Africa and Latin America, helping it spread to nearly every corner of the globe. Frank Duff later attended the Second Vatican Council as an observer, where his vision for the laity was affirmed by Church leaders. His cause for canonization continues, honoring a man whose quiet faith reshaped the modern Catholic apostolate.
In this episode Fr. Dwight Campbell reflects on St. Pope John Paul II, his papacy, and his special devotion to Our Lady. He focuses particularly on the pope's love of St. Louis de Montfort's True Devotion to Mary.

fWotD Episode 3070: Battle of Morlaix Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 30 September 2025, is Battle of Morlaix. The battle of Morlaix was fought near the village of Lanmeur in Brittany on 30 September 1342 between an Anglo-Breton army and a far larger Franco-Breton force. England, at war with France since 1337 in the Hundred Years' War, had sided with John of Montfort's faction in the Breton Civil War shortly after it broke out in 1341. The French were supporting Charles of Blois, a nephew of the French king.A small Anglo-Breton army under William, Earl of Northampton, besieged the Breton port of Morlaix. Charles led a force several times larger than Northampton's from the town of Guingamp to relieve Morlaix. Warned of this, the English carried out a night march and prepared a defensive position just outside Lanmeur. When they sighted the English position, the French deployed into three divisions, one behind the other. The first of these, probably made up of Breton levies, advanced and was shot to pieces by the English archers using longbows; it then broke without making contact. The second division, of French and Breton men-at-arms, attacked but their charge was halted when they fell into a camouflaged ditch in front of the English position. Presented with a large, close-range target the English archers inflicted many casualties. About 200 French cavalry made their way over the ditch and came to grips with the English men-at-arms, who were fighting on foot. This band was cut off by the English and all were killed or captured.Northampton was concerned that the English archers were running out of arrows and that the ditch was so full of dead and wounded men and horses as to be ineffective as an obstacle. Therefore, when the third French division was seen to be preparing to attack the English withdrew into a wood to their rear. The French were unable to force their way in, so they surrounded it and besieged the English, possibly for several days. Northampton broke out with a night attack and returned to Morlaix. Charles gave up his attempt to relieve the town and retreated. This was the first major land battle of the Hundred Years' War and the tactics used foreshadowed those of both the French and the English for the rest of the 1340s.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:47 UTC on Tuesday, 30 September 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Battle of Morlaix on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Aria.
Ottawa's Montfort hospital sees twice the number of patients for mental health emergencies as the Ontario average. And as this number increased in recent years, the everyday environment of the ER waiting room – chaotic, loud and overstimulating – became an ever larger trigger, causing distressed patients to flee or harm themselves or others. In the new Mental Health Emergency Zone right off the main ER, everything has been designed for de-escalation, and staff and patients are seeing dramatic results.

On the 4th August 1265 Henry III's army led by his son Edward, met rebels of Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester at Evesham. Henry himself had earlier been captured by Simon, and so perhaps that motivated Edward and his followers to exact a terrible revenge. In a brutal battle with the majority of the Montfortians wiped out, Edward was victorious and so Simon de Montfort's rebellion was over. Or was it? His relatives continued their campaign against Henry meaning this particular civil war was a long running one, and was that necessary? Joining today is David Pilling, author of Rebellion Against Henry III as he joins to discuss Henry, his son Edward, Simon de Montfort and this particularly brutal English civil war. (Host: Christine) In the 13th century, nobleman Simon de Montfort led an infamous and bloody rebellion against his brother-in-law, King Henry III of England. Simon's fight against royal power (and controversial life!) caused him to be a focus of one of Footnoting History's earliest episodes. Now, over a decade later, we are revisiting his story for listeners both new and old –and incorporating more details, newer research, and better audio performance. Fear Not, Little Flock: God Is Pleased to Give You a Kingdom Today's Homily reflects on St. Louis Marie de Montfort's unwavering conviction that God . . . . . . had called him to found a congregation to renew the Church, despite repeated failures during his lifetime. His steadfast faith led him to pray ardently, write a rule of life, and even compose a letter to members of a congregation that did not yet exist . . . urging them, as Jesus did, to “fear not, little flock.” God is Pleased to Give His People a Kingdom The central message is that God is pleased to give His people a kingdom, not reluctantly but joyfully, and that this identity as heirs to the kingdom outweighs all weakness, poverty, or insignificance. The Homily challenges us to live in hopeful expectation of God's promises, preparing themselves for the kingdom by living faithfully, using the great trust God has placed in them. Jesus' call to be vigilant is a reminder that those entrusted with much are accountable for much. The Eucharist is presented as the supreme moment when Christ entrusts Himself to His people, sending them forth with the true greatness of His presence to live according to the gift they have received. Hear more within this Meditation Media. Listen to: Fear Not, Little Flock: God Is Pleased to Give You a Kingdom --------------------------------------------------------------- Quote from the Homily Note the expression, it has pleased God, the Father, to give you a kingdom. What a remarkable statement that is, not simply that God has promised something. But that he's delighted to make that promise that in making this promise to you, there is something that pleases his heart. It is not that God begrudgingly gives you something. It is not that God reluctantly agrees to help you. God is pleased. Pleased to give you a kingdom. Note the weight of that statement. God is pleased. It delights God to call you into His kingdom and to open the possibility that the very wealth of heavenly goodness is yours. And he does it, not reluctantly, but joyfully. It pleases him to do this for you. And in quoting the Lord, Father de Montford spoke to his community that did not yet exist. --------------------------------------------------------------- St. Louis de Montfort The statue of Montfort currently resides in the Montfort Spiritual Center Chapel. How can we explain the reconciliation between the teaching of the second vatical council with the one prior to that regarding religious liberty? Three Responses to God's Claim on Your Life Today's Homily concludes Jesus' series of teachings on the Kingdom of Heaven with . . . . . . the parable of the net . . . a powerful image highlighting the inescapable and universal claim the Kingdom has on every person. Unlike other parables that speak of seeking the Kingdom, this one shows the Kingdom actively gathering everyone . . . righteous and wicked alike . . . for judgment. The Homily emphasizes that everyone belongs to God, whether they accept it, ignore it, or rebel against it. Using the teachings of St. Louis de Montfort, three responses to this belonging are outlined: 1. rebellious rejection (like Satan), 2. passive indifference (common but mediocre), or 3. wholehearted embrace (the path of spiritual growth and joy). The Eucharist is seen as a profound act of mutual belonging . . . Christ gives Himself to us, and we give ourselves to Him. Ultimately, the Christian life is about living into this reality of belonging to God, which shapes our identity and destiny. Stumbling into Heaven: How Encounters with God Change Everything On the occasion of his 19th anniversary of ordination, . . . . . . the visiting Montfort priest reflects joyfully on the value of the priesthood and the profound meaning of encountering God. Drawing from the Gospel of Matthew, the Homily emphasizes two parables: a man who stumbles upon a hidden treasure and a merchant searching for fine pearls . . . both of whom give up everything to possess what they found. These stories highlight how an authentic encounter with God transforms a person permanently. The Homily underscores how scriptural figures like Moses, St. Paul, St. Peter, and Isaiah were forever changed by their divine encounters with God. The Homily relates this to the Eucharist, suggesting that even if we attend Mass reluctantly or by habit, the experience can still lead to transformation. The Homily invites us to: 1. Pay attention to the small ways God reveals His kingdom in everyday life. 2. Go out with joy after encountering God, showing that joy even amid life's problems. 3. Remove distractions and focus more deeply on Christ. The Homily's message is one of gratitude, transformation, joy, and renewed commitment to live in God's kingdom now . . . on Earth! How?

Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Father Charles Murr joins Terry Gospel - John 3:1-8 - There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus at night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a Teacher Who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that You are doing unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?" Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born of water and Spirit he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. What is born of flesh is flesh and what is born of spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I told you, 'You must be born from above.' The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." In this episode of the Gotta Be Saints Podcast, I share a talk I recently gave to a men's group at my old parish, centered on The Secret of Holiness: Lessons from Our Lady.On this special episode, released on the feast of St. Louis de Montfort—a saint who radically shaped my devotion to the Blessed Mother—I dive into the truth that Mary isn't just a part of our Catholic faith... she's essential to it. Through Scripture, personal stories, and practical guidance, I explore how Mary's humility, docility, and courage offer us a model for growing in holiness today.Holiness must be our primary goal, even before family, career, or comfort. And no one can guide us more surely to Jesus than His mother.Topics Covered:Why Mary is the “safest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect” way to JesusWhat the Annunciation, Wedding at Cana, and the Cross reveal about Mary's role in salvationThe power of her last recorded words in Scripture: “Do whatever He tells you”The importance of embracing suffering, obedience, and mission like Our LadyPractical ways to grow in holiness today—starting with the Rosary, the sacraments, and ScriptureHow men and women alike can model Mary's yes in a world of distraction and indifference
St. Louis Grignion de Montfort, Priest (Optional Memorial)
Friends of the Rosary,Today, Monday of the Second Week of Easter, a day after Divine Mercy Sunday, we celebrate the memorial of St. Louis-Marie de Montfort, a 17th-century French saint revered for his intense devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Virgin Mary, especially through the Rosary.St. Louis-Marie wrote the prayer of entrustment to Our Lady, “Totus Tuus ego sum,” which means, “I am all yours.” The late Pope John Paul II took the phrase “Totus Tuus” as his episcopal motto. The saint manifested a love for the poor while he was at school and joined a society of young men who ministered to the poor and the sick on school holidays. When he was 19, he walked 130 miles to Paris to study theology, giving all he had to the poor he met along the way, and made a vow to live solely on alms. With a gift for preaching, he often drew crowds of thousands to hear his sermons in which he encouraged frequent communion and devotion to Mary.He was poisoned by Jansenists, a heretical movement within the Church that believed in absolute Predestination, in which only a chosen few are saved, and the rest damned. He wrote two masterpieces of Marian piety, “The Secret of the Rosary” and “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin,” which he correctly prophesied would be hidden by the devil for a time. The “True Devotion” was discovered 200 years after his death. One year before his death, St. Louis-Marie founded two congregations: the Daughters of Divine Wisdom, which cared for the sick in hospitals and educated poor girls, and the Company of Mary, a missionary order devoted to preaching and spreading devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New York• April 28, 2025, Today's Rosary on YouTube | Daily broadcast at 7:30 pm ET
Full Text of ReadingsSecond Sunday of Easter Sunday of Divine Mercy Lectionary: 45The Saint of the day is Saint Louis Mary Grignion de MontfortSaint Louis Mary Grignion de Montfort's Story Louis's life is inseparable from his efforts to promote genuine devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus and mother of the Church. Totus tuus (“completely yours”) was Louis's personal motto; Pope John Paul II chose it as his episcopal motto. Born in the Breton village of Montfort, close to Rennes, France, as an adult Louis identified himself by the place of his baptism instead of his family name, Grignion. After being educated by the Jesuits and the Sulpicians, he was ordained a diocesan priest in 1700. Soon he began preaching parish missions throughout western France. His years of ministering to the poor prompted him to travel and live very simply, sometimes getting him into trouble with Church authorities. In his preaching, which attracted thousands of people back to the faith, Father Louis recommended frequent, even daily, Holy Communion—not the custom then!—and imitation of the Virgin Mary's ongoing acceptance of God's will for her life. Louis founded the Missionaries of the Company of Mary, for priests and brothers, and the Daughters of Wisdom, who cared especially for the sick. His book True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin has become a classic explanation of Marian devotion. Louis died in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre, where a basilica has been erected in his honor. He was canonized in 1947, and his liturgical feast is celebrated on April 28. Reflection Like Mary, Louis experienced challenges in his efforts to follow Jesus. Opposed at times in his preaching and in his other ministries, Louis knew with Saint Paul, “Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who causes the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:7). Any attempt to succeed by worldly standards runs the risk of betraying the Good News of Jesus. Mary is “the first and most perfect disciple,” as the late Sulpician Father Raymond Brown described her.
