When is it appropriate to refuse someone Communion? Has Bishop Frank ever fired a priest? What do we know about the Marian apparition "Our Lady of America"? What would you say to God, in 10 or fewer words, to explain why you should go to Heaven? How about the Connecticut teacher who was removed from the classroom for displaying a cross? These are just some of the excellent listener questions that Bishop Caggiano answers on Let Me Be Frank. Tune in and enjoy! If Bishop Frank were to write a book, he says it would be about rediscovering the charism for Christian friendship. Friendship also happens to be the key to reaching and evangelizing young adults. That is the consensus among Bishop Frank, Fr Sam Kachuba (Vicar for Young Adult Ministry), and Paola Pena (Director of Evangelization at St Pius X). The culture has been offering empty promises to young adults... instead of the authentic freedom, relationship, and fulfillment that young adults (& all of us) truly desire. This was really a fantastic conversation. Enjoy! By the way, you can still squeeze in and join us as we celebrate the seven years that Veritas been on the air... We pray in the Creed that the Holy Spirit, with the Father and the Son, is adored and glorified. I, for one, know so much less about the Holy Spirit... that I'm not sure I can say I adore and glorify Him the same way as the Father and the Son. So Bishop Frank gives us (me) some teaching and reflection on who the Holy Spirit is, and what He does in our lives, and the gifts He gives us and the fruits of living with Him. Enjoy! Charlene Howard, executive director of Pax Christi USA, the national Catholic peace movement, is our special guest on this episode of Deacons Pod. "Peace is not a destination. It's a way of life," she tells Deacon Mike Berstene, one of the Paulist Deacon Affiliates, as she describes Pax Christi's work to promote peace, non-violence, and justice in the model of Jesus Christ. Deacon Mike asks Charlene what she hopes Catholics are considering now about the war with Iran. He also asks her about growing up Catholic in Washington, D.C., her previous work as a teacher, and her Easter Sunday reflection at Catholic Women Preach. Pax Christi USA has chapters around the United States, individual members, and a young adult caucus. It is a section of Pax Christi International.

Meet Maria. She's the newest fundraising officer in the Diocese of Bridgeport... and she is a work of autonomous artificial intelligence. Bishop Caggiano is at the tip of the spear, as we become the first diocese in the country to incorporate an AI fundraising officer. Why are we doing this? How will it help? Emily Groccia, of Givzey, and Deacon Pat Toole join Bishop Frank to discuss the plans and implementation, the benefits and drawbacks, of Maria. My input? "I'm perpetually worried about our future robot overlords." (Please don't tell my computer or my phone that I said that.) Happy Easter! Alleluia! We are in the octave of Easter and just at the start of the 50-day Easter season! "Death is not a lightswitch. It's a process; it happens in stages." That was the theme of Bishop Frank Caggiano's conversation with Mike Carlon. Mike wrote The Waiting Room, a novel about two families who are in the hospital with their dying loved ones on Christmas Eve. After losing both his brother and his mother in the course of 13 months, Mike woke up in the middle of the night and began writing this book. Bishop Frank & Mike dive deep in to many topics, including: ...how do we confront and handle the end of life of a loved one? ...where are the dead, and what is the veil that separates the living and the dead? ...what are the stages of the process of death? ...how is an author born, and how do you tell a good story? What Christ Suffered examines the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ through the eyes of a physician, detailing Jesus's suffering from a physiological and medical point of view. And... the book is even more than that. It is also a reflection on Paul's words to the Colossians: "Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church." In other words: how can we suffer well and how can we suffer for the benefit of others? Dr McGovern is Bishop Caggiano's guest this week on Let Me Be Frank, and I'm confident that this book would be a tremendous resource for you this Lent. Oh, and what prompted Bishop Frank to say: "Harvard... we don't talk about them"? Pax Christi, Steve Lee The other guy on Let Me Be Frank

Blessed Ash Wednesday to you. Bishop Caggiano helps us begin Lent on the right foot, as he reflects on: ...what are the two focuses of Lent for each of us personally? ...what is the purpose of this season of penance? Where is the journey heading? ...what can we expect to see in our churches over these 40 days? We also talked about Archbishop Fulton Sheen, whose upcoming beatification was confirmed by the Vatican, as well as about Bishop Caggiano's recent audience with Pope Leo XIV. By the way, this diocesan Lenten pilgrimage is a fantastic way to spend your Lent and prepare for Easter. "My parents loved me..." That's how Fr Gregory Pine OP began his testimony when Bishop Frank asked about his journey of faith. Fr Gregory joined us on Let Me Be Frank to talk about his new book: Training The Tongue And Growing Beyond Sins of Speech... which details how we can elevate our speech, enhance conversation, and (most importantly) cultivate communion. Fr Gregory & Bishop Frank also talk about: ...are there times when you should withhold the truth? ...can reading the classics enhance our speech and communication? ...what role does humor play in conversation and interaction? ...how do Millennials & Gen Z differ in their relationship with Truth? You will certainly enjoy this conversation! And be sure to pick up a copy of Training the Tongue for Lent. Pax Christi, Steve Lee The other guy on Let Me Be Frank

The Holy Spirit is on the move. Bishop Caggiano has observed that there is a turning of the tide, a window of opportunity, a newfound openness to the Catholic faith in people who were not open just a few years ago. There are quantitative and qualitative signs… a perfect storm of events and circumstances coming together that bode very hopefully for the growth of the Catholic faith. What does this perfect storm mean? What caused it? How do we take advantage of it? Bishop Frank looks at a number of factors, including: demographic shifts, the strength of the Church on the continent of Africa, and economic realities in the US… how should we respond to this window of opportunity? Gladiator. I can't believe I forgot to mention Gladiator. Bishop Caggiano and I were at St Joseph's High School to take student questions for this episode of Let Me Be Frank, and they asked some excellent questions, like: “When someone says the Holy Spirit revealed something to them; how do we know they're telling the truth?” “In God's eyes, is the Pope holier than I am?” “How do you stay open to the Holy Spirit's guidance, especially when Jesus seems to be absent?” …and when one student asked “What's your favorite movie?” Bishop gave his answer and then turned to me. I blanked. I named three excellent movies, but I forgot to mention Gladiator. Anyway, happy New Year! Enjoy this fun and informative conversation with St Joseph HS seniors! Merry Christmas! As you celebrate today (and throughout the Christmas octave), Bishop Caggiano's suggestion is to take some time in front of the image of the nativity... ponder that image in silence and realize the enormity of God's love for you. To help, he offers his reflections on the mystery of God's incarnation. And... why does Christmas feel different? In the second segment, Bishop Frank looks at the saints' feast days in the Christmas octave. Stephen, John the Apostle, the Holy Innocents, Thomas Becket, and Pope Sylvester. Why are they each celebrated during Christmas? Pax Christi, Steve Lee The other guy on Let Me Be Frank NOTES

Since the mailbag was getting fuller than Santa's sack of gifts, we thought Bishop Caggiano should answer some listener questions. Among them are some serious ones, like: …can someone who has committed suicide still go to Heaven? …why do priests wear different colored vestments throughout the year? …what was the most important question that Jesus asked in the Gospels? And there were a couple that were more my speed, like: What is your favorite scary movie? Yeah, I can answer that! Good thing we have the bishop for the toughies. Pax Christi, Steve Lee

Some folks today hear the word "immigration" and immediately take sides and prepare for a fight... But the conference of US bishops, at their fall meeting, issued a comprehensive and balanced "Special Pastoral Message" with near unanimous unity... on immigration - looking at human dignity and the orderly regulation of borders. Bishop Caggiano walks us through the important statement by the USCCB on Let Me Be Frank, and he also gives us a look at the history and function of the conference itself. Bishop stresses that we need to be able to dialogue about things like immigration, in order to come up with realistic solutions that protect both human lives and a nation's borders. So I ask you to please listen to, or watch, the entire conversation before you form your opinion of the USCCB's statement. On Friday Oct. 3, shortly before dawn, 100 protestors disrupted Maersk's and ZIM's operations at the port of Elizabeth, New Jersey. This site exports weapons used by Israel to kill Palestinians in Gaza, shipped by Maersk and ZIM. In addition, it is one of the largest weapons exporters on the East coast. Supplying these weapons for Israel's genocide is a blatant violation of the U.S. War Crimes Act, the Leahy law, The Foreign Assistance Act, Arms Export Control Act, and The Genocide Convention Implementation Act. John Amidon of Veterans for Peace and Pax Christi talks about the event.

In ihrem Aufruf vom 17. "Salvation is of the entire person, not just the soul. If we involve the body in the spiritual life, we are completing that which the Lord wants." Bishop Frank made that observation during his conversation with Jamie Baxter, founder of Exodus 90. Exodus 90 is an outstanding program for men to lean on prayer, asceticism, and fraternity as a means to the goal of freedom. This was a really, very edifying conversation for me to listen in on. I've been afraid to give Exodus 90 a try, despite many invitations from dear friends... perhaps this episode is a sign I should not ignore any longer... All eyes have been on the Vatican for the past couple weeks, appropriately so as we are in the season of Easter. On Let Me Be Frank, Bishop Caggiano reflects on the life of Pope Francis and prays for his soul . He also prays for the College of Cardinals, as they have an historic task ahead of them. What is the task ahead? What is the schedule and program for the cardinals who have gathered in Rome for the conclave, which begins on May 7th? Bishop Frank lays it all out for us, so we know (as much as we can know) what to expect in the weeks to come. By the way, I recently read a beautiful tribute from Fr Raymond de Souza in The Catholic Thing about the liturgical rhythm of Pope Francis's death and his final days on earth. Fr de Souza pointed out that the past many popes have died “according to a liturgical rhythm”… Francis on Easter Monday, John XXIII on the day after Pentecost, John Paul II on Divine Mercy Sunday, Benedict XVI on the vigil of Mary Mother of God, and Paul VI on the Transfiguration. Happy Easter! He is risen! Nota bene: Bishop Caggiano & I recorded this episode of Let Me Be Frank before the Holy Father passed away. In the next episode, we will certainly reflect on the pontificate, suffering, and death of Pope Francis… and perhaps talk about what lies ahead. In the meantime… did the Easter Bilby (yes, Bilby) visit your house? My guess is... no. Unless you're Australian. On Let Me Be Frank this week, Bishop Caggiano takes us on a voyage around the world to see how Easter is celebrated in Australia, France, Antigua, Greece, Sweden, Mexico, Bermuda, Poland, Philippines, New York, and Italy. Well, you have all of Easter Season (until June 8th) to try some of these traditions out yourself. Bishop Frank also gives a tip for evangelization... and I tell a story of mercy. Let Me Be Frank | Bishop Frank Caggiano's Podcast | Diocese of Bridgeport, CT
You gotta see this… In something brand new for Let Me Be Frank, we recorded the show live in front of an audience at St Mary Church in Greenwich! “What do you want to talk about?” I asked Bishop Caggiano before we started rolling the cameras. “Let's see what the people in the audience have on their minds,” he smiled. And so this week's episode is audience questions (and follow ups). We talked about: …why do pastors have term limits? …how do we get families of children in CCD to be more active? …how do we revitalize our Catholic schools? …how can we pray the rosary better? …can you help me forgive someone who continues to hurt me? I'm sure you'll enjoy this episode… and please join us for the next live audience session on Friday, May 30th at St Rose of Lima in Newtown! Controversies in Church History returns to its ongoing series on the Latinization of the Eastern Churches. The tenth installment deals with the trials of the Armenian Catholic Church, which faced persecution within the Ottoman Empire but also suspicion from Rome, which led to a brief schism in the 1870s. Along the way we discuss the wider context of the Ottoman Empire, Vatican I and the calamity of the Armenian Genocide during WWI. Please spread the word about the podcast if you like what you hear. Pax Christi!

Scottie reeve: Peace, Pax Romana vs Pax Christi - 8 December 2024 by Blueprint Church
Patrick has a profound discussion about the sacred bonds of marriage and the divine role of Mary as the spouse of the Holy Spirit. He distinguishes doctrines from customs in the Catholic faith, highlighting their significance and divine origin. For an insightful dive into this theological topic, he recommends exploring Pope John Paul II's encyclical, Redemptoris Mater. Mary - What do you know about the group called Pax Christi? (03:05) Tony - Can I walk my bicycle inside the Church so it doesn't get stolen? (12:53) John - What are the ramifications of Mary being the spouse of the Holy Spirit? (15:30) James Earl Jones was Catholic (23:17) George - Can you talk about tonight's debate and the values we should look for as Catholics? (33:35) Jackie - Can a Catholic attend a Jewish Chabad ceremony? (41:56)
(2:00) Bible Study: NA 2:1, 3; 3:1-3, 6-7 Father talks about the ethnicity cleansing of Nineveh MT 16:24-28 If there was nothing in it for you, would you still follow Jesus? (18:29) Break 1 Father answers when Jesus actually gave Peter the keys to the kingdom. (22:50) Letters: Father answers a whether or not confession is needed because the curtain was torn in the temple, what it means to have baptism for the dead and a visionary who saw visions of the life of Christ. In CCC 221, the whole idea of his kingly nature is love. What do you think? Jackie - How do you get forgiveness from someone who's passed on? Mary - Does he know anything about Pax Christi, they're very leftist? Charles - Who knew and who didn't know and when that the Ark was in the Holy of Holies? Harriat – Can I see a relic if I am not in the state of grace?
“I think there's a major concern for living more in harmony with creation, which is a result of conversion,” says Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv., “But I think Pope Francis is also, as our good shepherd, calling us to greater urgency to act because time is slipping away and we haven't done much.” Bishop John Stowe is a Conventional Franciscan, the third bishop of Lexington, Kentucky and the bishop president of Pax Christi. Listen to Bishop Stowe's homily for the Fourth Sunday of Easter year B on this week's episode of “Preach.” After the homily, he shares with host Ricardo da Silva, S.J.—a Jesuit priest from South Africa, associate editor at America and associate pastor at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in Manhattan—how he connects the image of the Good Shepherd from the gospels to the climate crisis. As Christians, we love Jesus. As Catholics, we unite ourselves with him – body, blood, soul, and divinity – each time we receive the Eucharist. What a great gift! Joining producer Kayla Mayer to go deeper into the gift that is Jesus in the Eucharist and how we can learn more, is Deacon Charles Bobertz, professor of Theology at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota and a deacon at Pax Christi in Eden Prairie.
