Raiders safety Karl Joseph is ending an odd season with a bang. He started the 2018 campaign down on the depth chart and then missed several games with injury, only to find himself on the trading block when he got healthy. The Raiders didn’t deal him, and should be happy about that fact. Joseph has been awesome recently and has become a three-down player who sets the tone with physical play. Joseph joins the Raiders Insider Podcast to discuss this year’s growing pains, why he’s better for them, and why he's working hard to establish himself as a team leader.

The Seahawks changed up in the NFL draft this year and showed they do care about the offensive line by taking a lineman in the first round for the first time since 2011. While the team made Adam happy with the offensive line picks, Brandan wonders if John Schneider was specifically trolling Adam by taking not just one running back, not to backs, but three running backs. The guys get into a discussion about how the offensive line in shaping up with three new draft picks and where it sounds like those players are going to be competing. One particular guy of intrigue from the draft is the tight end from Ohio State nicknamed Baby Gronk and there's specific audio and responses to some questions that show exactly why he fits that description well. The Arizona Cardinals drafted six players last week during the 2016 NFL Draft. They added Robert Nkemdiche, Brandon Williams, Evan Boehm, Marqui Christian, Cole Toner and Harlan Miller. They also added 16 undrafted free agent rookies. So naturally we had to have a show to talk about it. Hosts Jess Root and Seth Cox discuss the selections. They go over each pick and discuss whether it is a good pick or not, how each player fits and if there was another player the Cardinals could have taken. A lot of time is spent on Nkemdiche, who became available because of some character concerns. They make comparisons for each new player to someone on the roster now or in the past. Overall, they both really like how the Cardinals approached the draft and how they go about taking their risks and making their projections. They also briefly discuss the draft and the NFC West, going over the other teams in the division. Listen to the show and continue the conversation at Revenge of the Birds.

Topics in this episode include: -The selection of Jalen Ramsey by the Jacksonville Jaguars and how he fits in their defensive scheme (1:01) -The Pittsburgh Steelers' unexpected selection of Artie Burns in the first round, and why Pittsburgh broke with their long-standing tradition of not taking cornerbacks high in the draft (3:04) -The two first-round safeties selected this year in Karl Joseph and Keanu Neal and what they bring to the table for their respective teams (8:11) -Whether the cornerback position is seeing a transition to taller, rangier athletes in order to counter the different approaches offenses have taken in recent years to attacking defenses at the pro level (9:53) -The slide of Jayron Kearse to the seventh round and why he ended up falling this far in the draft (11:46) -Jeremy Cash falling completely out of the draft and signing a free agent deal with the Carolina Panthers, the reasons for the drop, and whether he can be an effective player at the NFL level (13:37) -The New England Patriots selection of Cyrus Jones in the second round and how his skill-set on special teams and in run support makes him a strong candidate to see action early in his career for New England (15:49)

I've been hesitant to admit this, but I think the Cleveland Browns should trade down in teh 2016 NFL Draft. Part of the newfound bravery comes from the Browns signing Robert Griffin III - a prospect in his own right - but it's really what I was thinking all along. I just don't know how much I love the top of the NFL draft. I discuss that at length as well as the Cleveland Indians' decision to put Trevor Bauer in the bullpen. Finally I touch on the new way that sports is being covered and how athletes are acting in the new generation. I talk about how crusty I am. This podcast is brought to you by Audible.com.
