This week, we're thrilled to welcome a true legend of grit and perseverance — former NFL quarterback Dan Pastorini ("Taking Flak: Life In The Fast Lane"). Born and raised in the Bay Area, Pastorini made his mark early at Bellarmine College Prep before starring at nearby Santa Clara University, where he etched his name into the school's record books and shined as the Most Outstanding Player of the 1971 East-West Shrine Game. Drafted third overall by the Houston Oilers during the famed "Year of the Quarterback" in 1971, Pastorini became a symbol of toughness and innovation — famously pioneering the use of the flak jacket to play through brutal injuries. During his nine seasons with the Oilers, Pastorini led the team through the beloved "Luv Ya Blue" era under coach Bum Phillips, playing alongside greats like Earl Campbell and Elvin Bethea. His leadership helped fuel dramatic playoff victories and brought Houston to the brink of Super Bowl glory in both 1978 and 1979. It's a revealing conversation, which includes Pastorini thoughts about: His upbringing, early sports dreams, and why he chose football over a potential MLB career after being drafted by the New York Mets. Life in the NFL trenches: the hits he took, the historic games he played, and the deep bond he formed with the city of Houston. The controversial 1979 AFC Championship loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers — and the call that still sparks debate. His transition to Top Fuel drag racing, where he broke barriers once again by winning major NHRA events and clocking speeds over 270 mph, AND His passion for giving back through the Be An Angel Foundation and reflections on a life lived at full throttle. From quarterback to drag racer, businessman to philanthropist, Dan Pastorini's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and heart. + + + SUPPORT THE SHOW: Buy Us a Coffee: https://ko-fi.com/goodseatsstillavailable "Good Seats" Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/?ref_id=35106 SPONSOR THANKS (AND SUPPORT THE SHOW!): Old School Shirts.com (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://oldschoolshirts.com/goodseats Royal Retros (10% off promo code: SEATS): https://www.503-sports.com?aff=2 Yinzylvania (20% off promo code: GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE): https://yinzylvania.com/GOODSEATSSTILLAVAILABLE 417 Helmets (10% off promo code: GOODSEATS): https://417helmets.com/?wpam_id=3 GRILL LIKE A PRO: Dan Pastorini's Texas Style BBQ Rubs & Spices: https://dpqualityfoods.com/ GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS: Be An Angel Fund: https://beanangel.org/ FIND AND FOLLOW: Website: https://goodseatsstillavailable.com/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/goodseatsstillavailable.com X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/GoodSeatsStill YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@goodseatsstillavailable Threads: https://www.threads.net/@goodseatsstillavailable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/goodseatsstillavailable/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GoodSeatsStillAvailable/

It was a very Jalen Milroe day in NFL Draft discourse. The former Alabama quarterback earned a comparison to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and he spoke at the Senior Bowl in Mobile. Mary Kay Cabot is in Mobile and she checked in with Dan Labbe on Monday night to talk Milroe and the Browns and what she learned on her first day at the draft's first big event. Mary Kay and Dan discuss Milroe and if the Browns or another team will fall enough in love with him to do all the necessary things to make him their quarterback on Monday's Orange and Brown Talk podcast. They also talk about former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was at East-West Shrine Game practices this weekend, and if the Browns would be willing to take on him and his dad, Deion. What do we make of a report saying teams were asking Sanders to sit out time in the Shrine Bowl? Titans HC Brian Callahan had some quotes on Sanders and how much will Callahan's opinion matter this draft season? The Titans are reportedly making some additions to the front office.
Chad Withrow from Hot Mic joins the show to talk all things Titans, NFL, and Nashville sports. We head to the hot seat. Shedeur Sanders met with the Titans today at the East/West Shrine Game. We wrap up the week with Six Pack Picks.

In this insightful episode of the 'Packernet Podcast,' we dive deep into the latest coaching changes within the Green Bay Packers organization, starting with the significant move of Justin Hood from defensive quality control assistant to secondary coach in Atlanta. This shift comes as part of Head Coach Matt LaFleur's broader strategy encouraging staff to explore new opportunities. We also discuss the departure of defensive line coach Haffley and speculate about the potential addition of Sean Mannion in a quarterback understudy role. Jeff Haffley's transition to the Packers as the new defensive coordinator marks a pivotal shift, promising fresh tactics and a dynamic defensive front, highlighted by former first-round talents and innovative strategies like increased man coverage and versatile blitzes. Further enriching the episode, we turn our attention to the NFL at large, analyzing defensive strategies across teams, with a particular focus on the Jets' defensive scheme and draft prospects. We assess the size and capabilities of the Jets' defensive line, debate the potential impact of draft picks on team dynamics, and spotlight wide receivers with high ceilings but notable concerns. The discussion extends to standout performances at the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, identifying players like Roman Wilson and Frank Gore Jr. as names to watch. As we delve into NFL draft prospects, the conversation includes in-depth analyses of linemen on both sides of the ball, edge rushers making a mark, and a robust cornerback class led by talents like Quinion Mitchell. The college football regular season has concluded which means the transfer portal is now OPEN – let the frenzy commence. So far the most notable Tiger that has put their name in the portal is WR Jack Bech, who had a breakout season in 2021 when he emerged as then-QB Max Johnson's favorite target when Kayshon Boutte went down with injury. This season, Jack Bech was limited in training camp with an Achilles injury and continued to have back issues that left him off the field for a good bit of the season. When Boutte made the decision to return for his senior season and after a breakout year for Malik Nabers PLUS two four-star WR recruits coming in next year, Bech may not have seen a clear path to the amount of targets he probably desires. While LSU's WR room will have plenty of talent and seniority, the defensive back position will not be as stacked for the 2023 Tigers. Senior DB Jay Ward, who has been used as a cornerback and a safety for LSU this season, decided not to exercise his fifth year of eligibility and has declared for the NFL Draft. Ward has been a key member of this LSU team, most notably blocking a field goal against Arkansas in a gotta-have-it game for the Tigers. Plus, DB Mekhi Garner has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game, meaning that he will likely declare for the NFL Draft in the next coming days. Jarrick Bernard-Converse, Colby Richardson, Greg Brooks, and Joe Foucha, all defensive backs, are also NFL Draft eligible as well. Comined with Damarius McGhee and Raydarius Jones entering the transfer portal, LSU needs some serious depth in the defensive backfield for next season. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
