The Atomic New South Wales Tournament Series headed to St Georges Basin for Round 3, and while the fishing has been tough at times over recent years, there are some encouraging signs that this iconic fishery is on the rebound. In this episode, I catch up with the anglers who finished on the podium and break down the patterns, decisions and lure choices that shaped the event. First up, Luke and Dean from Flick Wits discuss how a last-minute pre-fish decision paid off, finding quality fish in deeper water and using LiveScope to put together a strong two-day performance. Next, Hallam and Marlon from Bream Burglars share their shallow-water approach, focusing on weed beds, sand patches and quality fish holding in surprisingly skinny water. Finally, tournament winner Jason Maybury joins me to explain how Team Shimano put together a dominant 8.7kg winning bag, including a 44cm yellowfin bream that secured Big Bream honours and helped create one of the largest winning margins we've seen in recent years. Along the way we discuss: • Why Hurricane Sprats dominated the event • Shallow versus deep-water approaches • LiveScope and forward-facing sonar tactics • Leader choices and finesse presentations • Finding quality fish after heavy rainfall • The return of healthy yellowfin and black bream to the Basin • How subtle location changes can produce tournament-winning fish One thing becomes very clear throughout these interviews – if you're heading to St Georges Basin any time soon, make sure you've got a packet of Sprats in the tackle box. There are also some fascinating insights into how different anglers approached the same fishery. While some teams focused on deeper water and forward-facing sonar, others committed to shallow flats, weed edges and visual fishing. The result was a diverse and highly competitive event that produced some outstanding bags and plenty of lessons for anyone looking to improve their bream fishing. Want More Lure Fishing Content? In this episode we look at retentions. In late March, the government announced it was proposing to ban the use of retentions in construction contracts. The proposed ban is part of a wider package of measures aimed at tackling late payments across the UK economy as a whole, which the government says forces 38 small business to the wall every day. In construction, banning retentions might protect smaller firms from losing money when contractors further up the supply chain won't pay or become insolvent. But for some, retentions are a vital tool that incentivise contractors to meet their obligations, especially when it comes to the quality of a build and correcting any defects. CN's features editor, Matt Davies, is joined by Rob Driscoll, director of legal and business at the Electrical Contractors' Association, Melanie Leech, the chief executive at the British Property Federation and Chris Hallam, a partner at the law firm CMS.
In this episode, Paul is joined by Missouri turkey hunter and state trooper Sam Hallam for a conversation that wanders through the Ozarks, the Deep South, and the heart of what keeps turkey hunters coming back every spring. Sam shares how he grew up learning the craft from a quiet, deadly turkey hunter—his dad—and how that foundation eventually turned into a full-blown obsession that now includes traveling across the country to hunt public land. The two talk honestly about getting humbled in Alabama, the allure of big timber, and how some of the most meaningful hunts don't always end with a punched tag. The conversation dives into hunting pressured public ground, the realities of killing jakes, and why judgment has no place in the spring woods. Paul and Sam reflect on why turkey hunters can be so fiercely protective of the tradition, how social media has changed the culture for better and worse, and why slams and checklists should never overshadow the reason we hunt in the first place. Along the way, they swap stories of turkey camps, managed hunts in historic strongholds like Caney Mountain, unexpected friendships formed over shared ground, and those quiet moments in the woods that remind you this isn't just about killing a bird—it's about being there when the woods come back to life. If you care about heritage, public land, spring mornings, and hunting turkeys for the right reasons, this episode will feel like a long sit around a campfire with someone who gets it. Cassi Hallam, CMO at System Pavers, shows how the most dangerous place in marketing is the gap between what your data says and what your customers are actually experiencing. In this episode, Cassi shares how her team had created a beautiful, data-backed product that wasn't selling—until she left her desk, went to trade shows, and truly listened to the questions customers were asking. What she discovered transformed not just that product launch, but her entire approach to marketing leadership. Cassi reveals how to uncover the hidden meaning behind customer questions, why your best team members might need the most attention (not the least), and how to build what she calls "self-policing cultures" where A players elevate everyone around them. From her earliest days in a contact center to leading marketing for a category-defining home improvement brand, Cassi developed the wisdom to uncover superpowers, recognize the importance of intentional self-reflection, and to understand exceptional marketing leadership starts from within.

A toy doesn't need to be loud or flashy to leave a lasting impact. The most meaningful ones teach kindness, spark empathy, and build something real in a child's heart. That belief is what led today's guest to create a toy that's about so much more than play.In this special replay episode, we're passing the mic to guest host Virginia Lette, who sits down with Jana Hallam, a Toy Creators Academy alum who felt the same way and turned that feeling into a mission-driven brand. After struggling to align with a well-known holiday tradition, Jana set out to create something that better reflected the values she wanted to teach her kids: empathy, emotional awareness, and the courage to be kind. Her solution? The Kindness Mouse, the debut product from Wonderwell Toy Company. It's a magical, story-driven play experience featuring a plush mouse, storybook, and activity cards that inspire kindness in young children through social-emotional learning. You'll hear the origin story of The Kindness Mouse and why kids instantly connect with this unlikely hero. We dive into how empathy, SEL, and the idea of “wiring them young” became the foundation of Wonderwell Toy Co. Jana shares how trusting her gut (and even starting over) was key to moving forward, how Toy Creators Academy helped her navigate product safety, playtesting, and manufacturing, and why community is essential when you're building a brand from scratch.Whether you're dreaming up your first product or knee-deep in development, this conversation will remind you that a strong why is the most powerful tool a toy creator can have.Send The Toy Coach Fan Mail!Support the showPopular Masterclass! "Burnout and trauma are not mental illnesses. They live in your physiology. They live in your biology. They live very specifically in your nervous system,” Dr. Rola Hallam says with a conviction rooted in her own successful journey to overcome the effects of chronic stress she accumulated during many years on the frontlines of humanitarian crises in Syria and other conflict zones. Out of concern for the multitudes of health professionals who, like herself, spend years carrying the weight of their traumatic experiences without seeking help, or who pursue ineffective remedies for relieving it, Dr. Rola -- as she's known – has shifted her focus to being a trauma and burnout coach. Among her offerings is Beyond Burnout, a twelve-week program that includes multimedia content as well as live coaching and teaching about developing nervous system awareness and regulation. “Most wellness initiatives fail because they're not rewiring the nervous system to come out of survival mode and back into what is called the ventral-vagal state, which is our state of social connection and of healing and repair.” She also stresses that healing is not an individual pursuit, especially for providers who work in a relational field, and teaches about the benefits of borrowing from a colleagues' state of calm and offering them the same. Don't miss this insightful and giving conversation with host Lindsey Smith that covers Dr. Rola's wrenching experiences providing care in desperate conditions, the critically important distinction between empathy and compassion, and how empowering frontline workers to heal their trauma can uplift individuals and empower entire communities. We've had the privilege of speaking with a number of unique voices during our series on the work of David Lynch. Today we have a special conversation with Dr Lindsay Hallam, an educator of film studies and prolific contributor to the broader discussion of horror cinema, about her book about TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME for the publication imprint Devil's Advocates. In Lindsay's book, she breaks down the numerous levels on which Lynch's once divisive film operates: as a Twin Peaks film, as a trauma film, as a David Lynch film, and -- primarily -- as a horror film. We have the chance to sit down with Dr Hallam and only barely scratch the surface of this fascinating and often deeply misunderstood film.If you're curious to read the book, you can find a copy here, or at your online retailer of choice. In this episode, we are thrilled to be joined by Dr. Lauren Girouard-Hallam, an expert in children's development and technology, to discuss the impact of AI on children aged three to twelve. Lauren discusses her current research focusing on how children trust technology over human sources. Her studies reveal an "inverse U" pattern: young children are skeptical, trust peaks around seven to ten years, and declines as they grow older and become more discerning. The conversation highlights the importance of co-viewing technology with children and fostering open discussions about online interactions. Lauren advises parents to engage their children with curiosity and positivity, emphasizing the value of maintaining healthy digital habits and privacy awareness.
