Matt Waldman’s RSP Scout Talk podcast with Russ Lande concludes its series devoted to evaluation misses and lessons learned with an episode on the quarterback, the most difficult position to evaluate in sport.   Russ Lande and I have had our share of successes between us, ranging from Tom Brady and Marc Bulger to Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes. We've also had our share of failures and lessons learned. Evaluating quarterbacks has become harder than ever--and the position was the most difficult to scout in the first place. We spent the hour discussing what we've learned about evaluating quarterbacks. Bruce Gradkowski and John Beck: Arm strength may be overrated, but it's still essential. Blaine Gabbert and Mark Sanchez: The danger of taking a quarterback based on one year of play. Johnny Manziel and Nate Davis: Great physical and technical talent, but the emotional dedication to the game matters. Ryan Nassib and Jake Fromm: Tape vs workouts and the benefits and detriments of both. Tyler Wilson, Brian Brohm, and Jeff Tedford quarterbacks: Quarterbacks who benefitted more from a master tactician's system and coaching than they grew as NFL prospects. Jake Locker: If the mechanics are good and the accuracy is bad, it's hard to fix. If you missed the previous episodes, they're well worth a listen: Running Backs Wide Receivers Tight Ends For the most in-depth analysis of offensive skill players available (QB, RB, WR, and TE), download the 2021  Rookie Scouting Portfolio for $21.95.   Matt’s new RSP Dynasty Rankings and Two-Year Projections Package is available for $24.95 If you’re a fantasy owner and interested in purchasing past publications for $9.95 each, the 2012-2020 RSPs also have a Post-Draft Add-on that’s included at no additional charge.   Best yet, a percentage of each sale is set aside for a year-end donation to Darkness to Light to combat sexual abuse.

In 2018, the Texans lost to New England, the Blaine Gabbert led fake punt touchdown passing Tennessee Titans, and the Eli Manning-Odell Beckham Jr. combination. Welcome back to Sports Krunch with DKrom ladies and gentlemen, I’m your host David Kromelow. Well, the 2018 NFL regular season comes to an end this weekend with three playoff teams and 11 seeds still yet to be determined. But as we’ve been saying for weeks, just as it appears the ride is ending, it’s really just beginning. Isn’t it Hal Bent? 1. Week 16 Takeaways -Jets have opened a GOLDEN window of opportunity with Sam Darnold…and they CANNOT afford to squander it. Firing Mike Maccagnan must be SQUARELY on the table -Nick Foles blew Hal’s bold prediction out of the water -Chargers laid an egg at the worst possible time. Can they bounce back? 2. Truth/Exaggeration -Regardless of what happens this Sunday, John Harbaugh has earned another contract extension as head coach of the Ravens -Injuries and/or lack of depth in the defensive back seven will lead to one-an-done playoff performances for the Chiefs and Texans -The Ravens and Colts are the two main teams NOBODY will want to face in the playoffs -If there were an award for unsung hero of the year, it would be given to Saints DT Sheldon Rankins this season -Aaron Donald will break Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record this weekend -Even though the Bears ended up winning last week, the tape their defense put up against the 49ers proves why Eddie Jackson is arguably the third most important person on their defense behind only Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks 3. Colts/Titans -Whose absence will hurt their team more: Ryan Kelly or Jurrell Casey? -How much of a downgrade is Blaine Gabbert from Marcus Mariota? Is the Titans O a better unit than the Colts D with Mariota? Without him? -This game has a feel to it that whoever runs the ball better will win. Doesn’t it? -Game-deciding matchups -Prediction 4. Rapid Fire Predictions -Dolphins/Bills -Lions/Packers -Jaguars/Texans -Jets/Patriots -Panthers/Saints -Cowboys/Giants -Falcons/Buccaneers -Browns/Ravens -Raiders/Chiefs -Bears/Vikings -Bengals/Steelers -Eagles/Redskins -Chargers/Broncos -49ers/Rams -Cardinals/Seahawks 5. If you had to predict today, who would face off in Super Bowl LIII, and who would win? -Me: Patriots and Saints with the Saints winning 30-27 -Hal: Saints and Chiefs with the Saints winning 31-13 6. Week 17 Bold Predictions -Me: Teddy Bridgewater punches his ticket to a mega-deal in free agency by going 20/25 for 275 yards and 3 TD’s -Hal: Ravens enter fourth quarter with a 13-3 lead, and Mayfield throws three 4th quarter TD’s to pull off the upset 7. Challenge Flags -Me: Kirk Cousins…this is your biggest chance to change the narrative on your career. Prove the doubters wrong!! -Hal: Bengals, Jets, Broncos, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Lions…do NOT be afraid to start over Thank you Hal…and that’s it for today here on Sports Krunch, but we’ll be back next week to preview Wild Card Weekend and break down the looming NFL coaching carousel…so stay tuned! Meanwhile, be sure to check out the episode archive as well as my blog at SportsKrunch.com!! And if you enjoy these podcast episodes please consider leaving us an iTunes review and donating to our Patreon at Patreon.com/SportsKrunch so we can improve our iTunes ranking and afford to produce even more shows with awesome guests like Hal. Dane Martinez and Scott Engel open the show with Dane worrying the Budweiser fridges will be open tonight in Cleveland as the Browns get ready to take on the Jets. Dane and Scott argue if Jarvis Landry's questionable status for tonight's game means he is in danger of missing the game entirely. Marcus Mariota is back at practice for the Titans, but Scott and Dane question why he and Blaine Gabbert are sharing first team reps, and if this means Gabbert will be under center this weekend. Dane and Scott look at some rankings, and wonder if David Johnson's underperformance so far through two weeks will continue, with the Cardinals set to take on a tough Bears defense. #FNTSY #NFL #fantasyfootball #Week3 #TNF #Browns #Jets #JarvisLandry #Titans #Cardinals #MarcusMariota #BlaineGabbert #DavidJohnson #GioBernard Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers

After waiting 9 months for the Miami Dolphins to play a meaningful football game, week 1 is finally here! In this week’s edition of Phinsider Radio, MC$$$, Surton, and I breakdown the five plays that impacted the Dolphins’ marathon win vs the Tennessee Titans. We discuss the good the bad and the ugly, and what to expect from this team moving forward. The game wasn’t pretty, but the Dolphins managed to beat the Tennessee Titans in improbable fashion. This game had it all! Longest game in NFL history? Check. Weather delays. Check. Ryan Tannehill, after 637 days, throwing dimes to Kenny Stills for six. Check. Jakeem Grant returning a kick 102-yards for the second longest in Dolphins’ history. Check. Reshad Jones, intercepting both Blaine Gabbert and Marcus Mariota, for his first two interception game of his career. Check. A kid running onto the field and juking out security guards. Check. It was a historical game that ended in the best way possible. With the Dolphins undefeated and at the top of the AFC East. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We're joined by Greg Smith (@gregsauce), founder of TwoQBs.com, to complete a mock draft using our Draft Simulator. We begin by discussing two quarterback leagues and why they can be so much fun before diving into our mock draft (1:53). We set our mock drafts up to pick from the eighth slot in a 12-team league with rosters that include two quarterbacks, two running backs, three wide receivers, one tight end, one RB/WR/TE flex position and four bench slots (4:41). Our first round discussion involves passing on a quarterback to take a player like Julio Jones (5:47) or if Drew Brees at eighth overall is a worthy pick (7:40). The second round features players Lamar Miller (8:27) and LeVeon Bell (9:03). Greg mulls over his third round quarterback choices before he decides to take another running back in Mark Ingram (9:55). We agree on Demaryius Thomas' value in the fourth round (11:05) before moving on to the fifth round where we discuss players like Kirk Cousins (12:02), Thomas Rawls (12:23), Jonathan Stewart (12:47) and Tyrod Taylor (13:13). Bobby talks about why he likes Jordan Reed (14:10) before Greg satiates our love for Donte Moncrief and takes him in the sixth round (15:25). We have a hard time finding value in the seventh round, and we discuss if Jordan Matthews (17:00), Andy Dalton (17:34), Duke Johnson (17:46) and John Brown (18:26) are worth a pick. Eighth round discussion involves Josh Gordon (19:26) and Robert Griffin III (20:46). Greg tells us why he likes Michael Crabtree's value in the ninth round this year (22:21). In the tenth round Bobby considers quarterbacks before settling on Kevin White (23:20) while Greg decides on a running back and selects Chris Ivory (24:06). Greg takes Jay Cutler as his third quarterback and talks about why it's a high floor pick at this point in the draft (25:37) while Bobby selects Devin Funchess in the 11th round (26:53). In the twelfth round Greg takes another quarterback (27:13), and Bobby debates taking Blaine Gabbert or Teddy Bridgewater (28:21). We finish our drafts by discussing Dwayne Allen (29:16) and Michael Thomas (29:54) and then we compare our draft grades (30:31). Draft Wizard: draftwizard.fantasypros.com
