Yannick et Jérôme connaissent les horaires, les payes et les coûts de main-d'œuvre pour une bonne raison : avant de créer Pivotapp, ils travaillaient eux-mêmes en restauration.L'histoire commence en 2016, alors qu'ils sont encore au cégep. Autour de sushis, les deux amis commencent à imaginer une application. Leur constat est simple : les restaurateurs passent beaucoup trop de temps dans leur bureau à gérer des tâches administratives alors qu'ils devraient être sur le plancher, avec leurs équipes et leurs clients. Ils quittent leurs études pour se lancer à 100 % dans l'aventure. Ils ne sont pas programmeurs, ont peu de moyens et doivent convaincre leurs premiers clients. Saint-Hubert, Boston Pizza, Fromagerie Victoria… les premières rencontres leur permettent de confronter leur idée à la réalité du terrain. Puis arrive 2020 et la COVID, probablement le pire moment possible pour lancer une technologie destinée aux restaurants. Pour continuer, Yannick et Jérôme travaillent dans les restaurants le soir et réinvestissent l'argent gagné dans Pivotapp. Quelques années plus tard, l'entreprise montréalaise compte une trentaine d'employés et leur idée de départ est devenue beaucoup plus ambitieuse.Dans cet épisode de On est dans le jus, on découvre leur parcours, mais aussi ce que Pivotapp cherche aujourd'hui à automatiser : création des horaires, gestion de la paye, calcul du coût de main-d'œuvre en temps réel, pourboires, données de ventes et de réservations, prévisions et intelligence artificielle.On parle également de Mia, leur intelligence artificielle capable notamment d'interpréter les règles de redistribution des pourboires d'un restaurant, et de leur vision à plus long terme : faire évoluer Pivotapp vers une sorte d'assistant-gérant numérique capable d'enlever toujours plus de tâches administratives aux restaurateurs. Mais derrière la technologie, cet épisode raconte surtout l'histoire de deux gars de restauration qui ont décidé de construire l'outil qu'ils auraient eux-mêmes aimé avoir lorsqu'ils étaient sur le terrain.

In this episode of the AppleVis Extra, David Nason is joined by blind software developer Yannick Plassiard for a fascinating conversation about accessibility, software development, and what happens when the person building an accessible app is also someone who relies on accessibility every day. Yannick is the developer behind App-Suite, a growing collection of accessibility-focused applications that includes aGram, aScan, aCapture, and other projects spanning MacOS, iOS, Windows, and Android.Yannick takes us back to his earliest experiences with computers, learning to program on MS-DOS and working primarily with Braille at a time when screen readers and assistive technology looked very different from what we use today. From there, he discusses a career that has taken him through accessibility, Braille technology, healthcare, financial systems, and backend development. That varied background has given him an interesting perspective on accessible software design: techniques developed to solve problems in one industry can often prove surprisingly valuable when applied somewhere else.The conversation then turns to App-Suite and the accessibility problems that inspired Yannick to start building his own applications. Yannick and Tony talk about how they have been managed and how they have managed others throughout their 25-year careers. They reflect on how their experiences of leadership have impacted them. Which leadership behaviours have made them feel valued and empowered and which have made them feel exposed and demoralised?
