Hicâb âyetinin gelmesinden sonra, günün birinde Nebi (s.a.v.)'in eşlerinden Ümmü Seleme ve Meymûne (r.anhüma) validelerimiz, Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) Efendimiz'in huzurunda oturuyorlardı.Ashâb (r.a.e.)'den gözleri görmeyen Abdullah b.Ümmi Mektûm (r.a.) hâne-i saadete çıkageldi. Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) Efendimiz, zevcelerine hitaben buyurdular ki: “Örtünüze bürününüz.” Validelerimiz (r.anhüma): “Ey Allâh'ın Resulü, o âmâ değil mi? Bizi görmez ve tanımaz” dediler. Resûl-i Ekrem (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurdular: “Sizler de mi âmâsınız, siz onu görmüyor musunuz?” Resûlullâh (s.a.v.) Efendimiz'in zevcelerinin Ümmet-i Muhammed'in anneleri olduğu âyetle sâbit iken ve gelenin gözleri de âmâ bulunduğu halde böyle buyurulunca, tamamen yabana ve gözleri şehvetle dört açılmış erkeklerin nazarına kendini arzeden bir kadın için asla bir mazeret kâbul edilemez. Mü'min erkeklere söyle onlar gözlerini dahilde, hariçte, başkalarının evlerine girerken,çıkarken, otururken veya kalkarken her halde haramdan indirsinler; harama bakmaktan,ayıp bîr şey görmekten sakınsınlar da, kendileri için bakmak mubah olan şeylerden başkasına bakmasınlar ve ırzlarını zinadan muhafaza edip haramdan, başkalarının görmesinden saklasınlar, avret yerlerini iyice örtsünler, tâ ki orayı kimse göremesin. İşte bu; gözlerini kapamak, avretlerini örtüp kendilerini zinadan muhafaza etmek, onlar için daha temizdir. Şüphesiz ki Allâh (c.c.) ne yaparlarsa hakkıyla haberdârdır. Beyaz elbise giymek müstehabtır. Siyah giymek de müstehabtır. Çünkü siyah giymek Abbasoğullarının alâmetidir. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) Efendimiz'in, siyah bir sarığı vardı. Bayramlarda onu giyer ucunu da iki omuzu arasından arkaya sarkıtır (taylasan yapar)dı. Mekke'nin fethinde başında o sarık olduğu halde Mekke'ye girmişti. Erkekler için giyimde uygun olan, çok pahalı da çok âdî de olmayan ve kendisiyle maddî bakımdan aynı seviyede olan kimselerin giydiği gibi giyinmektir. Aşırı lüks elbise giymek dînen yasaklanmıştır. Çok düşük kaliteli elbise giymekle de insanların gıybet etmesine sebep olunur. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.), giyimde iki şekilde tanınmayı yasaklamıştır: Aşırı pahalı ve çok kalitesiz elbise giymek. Buna dikkat edilirse, düşüncesiz ve haddini bilmeyen kimselerce de aklı başında kimselerce de ayıplanmaz. Şemsül Eimme İmam Serahsî (r.âleyh) şöyle buyuruyor: “İnsan, çoğu zaman günlük fakat yıkanmış temiz elbise giymelidir. Bazen de Allâh (c.c.)'un verdiği nimeti ortaya koymak için en güzel elbisesini giymelidir. Böyle yapmak mendubtur.” Çünkü, hadis-i şerifte “Allâhü Teâlâ verdiği nimeti kulunun üzerinde görmek ister” buyuruluyor. Kişi en güzel elbisesini her zaman giymemelidir. Çünkü, bunu görenler kendileri öyle elbise giyemedikleri için üzülür ve sıkıntı duyarlar. Şir'a Şerhi, Mişkât isimli eserden şunu naklediyor: “Eski ve yamalı elbise giymek İslâm'ın sünnetlerindendir. Rivayet olunuyor ki, Peygamberimiz, (s.a.v.) Hz. Fâtıma (r.anhâ)'yı Hz. Ali (r.a.) ile evlendirdiğinde, Fâtıma (r.anhâ) Validemiz'in üzerinde yünden 12 yamalı bir örtü, pelerin vardı. Hz. Fâtıma (r. anhâ) el değirmeniyle arpa öğütürken, diliyle Kur'an okur, kalbiyle mânâsını düşünür, ayağıyla beşik sallardı.” (Allame Şeyh Alaüddin Abidin, Üç Boyutuyla İslam,S.736)

A new people has emerged in the digital age, that of ‘internet famous' celebrities. And that new people has a class of social scientist focused on studying them, the digital anthropologist. Crystal Abidin, a professor at Australia's Curtin University and founding director of the Influencer Ethnography Research Lab there, is such as digital anthropologist. Her research covers influencers – both adult and child and the general pop culture centered on social media, especially in the Asia Pacific region. In this Social Science Bites podcast, Abidin offers interviewer David Edmonds a metaphor to understand how her cyber-ethnography and digital anthropology work in practice. “I often think of anthropologists as Mars rovers that you throw into these unknown planets, and slowly but surely, we roll around the planet looking for bits of data, bits of material that might be new or novel. We're not going for quantity and volume at this scale. We're looking for what's neglected, unseen, sidelined by the margins, not yet mainstream. And we're measuring how much of these things are characteristic of the planet and worthy of study. … [A]s an anthropologist, given that my fidelity is to people and their cultures, I don't always only go for the shiniest, most mainstream thing. I often look for what's left behind.” In this conversation, though, Abidin talks about something very shiny indeed – those professional internet celebrities known collectively as “influencers.” She explains how while the top influencers do generate the paydays seen in popular media, the ecosystem extends down to individuals who are spending their own money in hopes of someday making it big. She also draws a distinction between influencers and creators, and also between influencers and memes.  Abidin also dives into regional differences in influencer culture, using her own detailed analysis of Asia Pacific influencer cultures, to explore regional differences that should be understood when assessing content on global platforms. “[I]f we were to discount the hegemony of American popular culture and their stronghold and a lot of social media, the palette is so diverse, the markets are so varied, that trends go in many different directions. So we need to sometimes think about who we are speaking about, what the superpower of the day is, and whenever we make these generalizations, what are the limitations? Who's not included in them?” In addition to her role at Curtin, Abidin founded the TikTok Cultures Research Network and is an affiliate researcher with the Media Management and Transformation Centre at Jönköping University. She was named an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow for 2019 to 2024. Currently the editor-in-chief of Media International Australia, she has written or edited a number of books that bridge popular concerns with academic rigor, including 2018's Internet Celebrity: Understanding Fame Online and this year's Influencer Marketing: Interdisciplinary and Socio-Cultural Perspectives (co-edited with Lauren Gurrieri and Jenna Drenten),

This episode features a conversation about contemporary Indonesian politics, with a special focus on the role of Islam. In October 2024, Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as the president of Indonesia. In the Presidential election back in February 2024, he had quite handily defeated his two competitors, Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo, with 59% of the popular vote. This 2024 election was the third time that Prabowo tried to become president, after he lost in 2014 and 2019 against Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. The political competitions between Jokowi and Prabowo on occasion turned quite ugly. Not infrequently, it was accusations that the other was the "wrong kind" of Muslim that made it ugly – with the effect that the two candidates always appeared like irreconcilable opponents. But when Jokowi could no longer compete in the 2024 elections after his second term was up, he surprised many spectators by endorsing none other than Prabowo as his successor as president. Prabowo, in turn, selected Jokowi's son, Gibran Rakabuming, as his running mate. This episode is hosted by Dr. Verena Meyer, an Assistant Professor of Islam in South and Southeast Asia at Leiden University. She is joined by three colleagues with expertise in Islam and politics in contemporary Indonesia: (1) Dr. Zainal Abidin, who teaches at at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta and also serves as Director of the Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies; (2) Dr. Saskia Schäfer, Head of a Research Group about Secularity, Islam, and Democracy in Indonesia and Turkey at Humboldt University in Berlin; and (3) Dr. Taufiq Hanafi, postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) in Leiden.
