In this episode of Platemark, I talk with Mae Shore, a collaborative printer and owner of Shore Publishing in Tuxedo Park, New York. Mae shares her experiences working at Pace Editions with notable artists like Jim Dine and Chuck Close. She discusses the history and evolution of her gallery and print shop, which she established to merge her love for printmaking and curating exhibitions. Mae touches upon specific projects, such as her collaborations with artists like Amy Bennett, Kamrooz Aram, and Katia Santibañez and James Siena, detailing the unique processes and challenges in creating prints. The conversation also highlights the importance of print fairs, the nuances of printmaking, and Mae's backstory growing up in New York City's SOHO and Tribeca neighborhoods. Mae's reflections offer a compelling glimpse into the meticulous, collaborative, and often experimental world of printmaking. Episode image: Greg Dohler Amy Bennett (American, born 1977). Joining me today to talk about their pieces in The Feminine Macabre I and II are Amy Bennett from Full Dark Paranormal and Chris Amandier from Buried Secrets Podcast. We are going to be looking a little closer at their pieces centered on Ouijamania from the 1920s, Hell's Gate, colourful female ghosts and asylums and exploring them from some different angles and topic points. These pieces threw up a range of fascinating questions and insights linked to their macabre writings and I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed participating in this discussion with my guests. As of recording the podcast Volume II had not been released but has subsequently been published and can now be enjoyed alongside Volume I. You can purchase these through Amazon or via Amanda Woomer's website https://spookeats.com/femininemacabre/ If you haven't yet dipped your toe into these journals to see some of the amazing body of research and information then I highly recommend. I have thoroughly enjoyed devouring both volumes and I am sure you will too. Congratulations, and well done, to all the contributors of these volumes. Thank you Amanda for giving a place for these essays to have a voice and platform. Thank you for listening. Do you journal? So many people swear by it, but how do you get started and what's the right practice for you? Amy Bennett loves all things Bullet Journaling but realizes that it's sometimes hard to get started. That's why she started her Etsy shop selling Bullet Journal stencils! Her business has grown since then and includes so much more, but it all started with her love of journaling and realizing that more people would do it if they knew how to start. Once she realized the need, she set to work creating resources to help women aspiring to add journaling to their daily lives. She didn't start off with journal stencils however. Like most Etsy owners her initial interests were far different, but when she started journaling she saw a huge positive shift in her life. She began joining journaling groups and realized that there was a very large gap in the journaling market. Enter Moxie Dorie and her business partner Kris and they have since filled that gap. Listen as she shares her story and why it's possible for you to turn your passions into an income generator as well. Just start the Etsy shop and keep innovating. When you look back you'll be surprised how far you've come. In This Episode: [00:59] Welcome to the show, Amy! [01:27] She shares her background and what she does. My guests today are TWO names well known to local readers and lovers of storytelling: Amy Bennett Williams AND Roger Williams. That’s right, we’re trying out our first twofer today on 3 Song Stories, so hang in there, here we go.----more----The beginning of Amy Bennett Williams’ short bio reads like the storyteller she is: she “came to The News-Press in 1988 as an ashtray-emptying, obituary-writing clerk-slash-reporter, then moved through a series of assignments at the paper, covering everything from cake contests to tuberculosis outbreaks.” Amy left the paper for a while to edit Gulfshore Life Magazine before returning as its Lifestyles editor in 1998. These days she’s a feature writer and columnist. Her current job titles are watchdog and storyteller. Amy lives in Alva with her writer husband, Roger, two sons and an ever-changing and well-documented menagerie. And speaking of Roger, his short bio, unsurprisingly, also begins with a writer’s flourish: “Roger Williams was born long ago and far away west of the mighty ‘Mississippi’ River, an Indian name with fewer English letters (only 11) than the colossal ‘Caloosahatchee’ River, which contains 14.” Roger moved to Florida in 1994 to work almost four years happily for The News- Press – especially happily after Amy agreed to marry him. (paraphrasing the bio now) He got an undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas, and a master’s from the Columbia University School of Journalism. These days he writes a column and feature stories for Florida Weekly.

Amy Bennett joins me for Episode 81. If you are a podcast junkie, then you may recognize her name. She has her own podcast called Feathers: Faith In Flight where she has conversations with different people about their steps of faith. I think that Amy has a story that is probably similar to many people—a story of growing up Christian and doing all the right things yet at the end of the day left in a spiritually dry place. She talks about what happened to her when life ended up less than she dreamed. She contrasts what happened when she wasn’t abiding in Jesus and to what her life looks like when she was abiding in Jesus. So pull a chair up to the kitchen table and join the conversation. But in all seriousness, I think that my biggest takeaway was her quote that her biggest failure led to her greatest sense of acceptance. In Episode 80, I talked about failure in the recap. Sounds like God is definitely trying to speak to me about this. We can allow God to use failure to draw something beautiful on our lives. Failure allows us to see our need for Jesus. What did you enjoy about this episode? What was your takeaway. Let's continue the conversation on Instagram or Twitter or you can send me an email here. Thank you for following along life with me. I love being apart of your day. And as always, I hope this show helps you survive a little easier.
