The Gateway Podcast – Joe Rainone– EVPs Date: Dec 31, 2024 Episode: 57 Discussion: EVP's RERUN About Joe : Unlike most, Joe Rainone did not have a previous paranormal experience that prompted him to start investigating. For him, the subject of the paranormal was always a fascinating topic that intrigued him throughout his youth. It wasn't until adulthood that he began to actively pursue his childhood interest in the field. Over the past several years, Joe has been deeply involved in paranormal investigations, exploring some of the most haunted locations in the country, including Waverly Hills, Ohio State Reformatory, Eastern State Penitentiary, Pennhurst Asylum, Rolling Hills Asylum, and the Shanley Hotel, to name just a few. Though he considers himself a “skeptic” first and foremost, Joe's experiences during his investigations have introduced him to numerous unexplainable phenomena. These encounters have significantly expanded his knowledge of the field and further fueled his passion for paranormal research. Over the years, he has also had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people within the paranormal community. Looking back on his journey, Joe wouldn't change a thing. Host: CL Thomas C.L. Ohio is home to a staggering number of haunted locations, each steeped in history, mystery, and eerie folklore. From abandoned buildings to cemeteries, old theaters, and even entire towns, the Buckeye State has a diverse array of sites that have earned reputations for being haunted by restless spirits. One of the most famous and terrifying locations is the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, a former prison that housed some of the state's most notorious criminals. This imposing Gothic structure, which closed its doors in 1990, is often cited as one of the most haunted places in Ohio. The prison has witnessed countless tragedies, from violent prisoner uprisings to harsh conditions, which have left lingering energy throughout its halls. Visitors frequently report strange noises, shadowy figures, and even full-body apparitions, making it a popular destination for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers alike. Another notorious haunted location is the Franklin Castle in Cleveland, a massive Victorian mansion built in the 1800s. The castle is said to be haunted by the spirits of the Tiedemann family, who lived there during the late 19th century. The mysterious deaths of several family members, including children, have fueled rumors that the house is cursed. Some stories suggest that the mansion's original owner, Hans Tiedemann, was involved in the tragic deaths, and the hauntings are a result of the family's unresolved grief. Visitors to the Franklin Castle have reported hearing footsteps, seeing apparitions, and feeling sudden drops in temperature, all of which contribute to the house's chilling reputation. Ohio also boasts some spooky cemeteries, with one of the most notable being Woodland Cemetery in Dayton. Known for its Gothic atmosphere and sprawling grounds, Woodland Cemetery is home to many ghost stories. Local legends speak of mysterious figures seen wandering the grounds at night, as well as ghostly apparitions that appear among the graves. Other visitors have reported hearing ghostly whispers and the sound of footsteps echoing through the cemetery when no one is around. The cemetery's eerie aura has made it a popular site for paranormal investigations. One of Ohio's most famous haunted sites is the Moonville Tunnel, located in the Appalachian region near McArthur. Built in the 1850s, the tunnel was once a vital part of the railroad system. Today, it is the site of numerous ghost stories and legends. The most prominent tale involves the spirit of a railroad brakeman who was reportedly struck by a train and killed while working in the tunnel. His ghost, along with other apparitions, is said to haunt the area, with reports of strange lights, eerie sounds, and even sightings of the ghostly brakeman himself. The Moonville Tunnel is particularly known for its otherworldly atmosphere, especially when the fog rolls in during the early morning hours. The Loveland Castle, located in Loveland, is another Ohio landmark that is said to be haunted. Built in the 1920s by a man named Harry D. Andrews, the castle has an eerie, medieval charm. Andrews, who dedicated his life to creating the castle, is said to still haunt the property, along with the spirits of his family members. Visitors have reported hearing strange sounds coming from the castle, as well as seeing shadowy figures in the windows. The castle's dark, historic past has made it a prime location for those interested in exploring Ohio's haunted heritage. These locations are just the beginning of Ohio's haunted history, which extends across the state from the haunted theaters of Cincinnati to the ghost-filled streets of old mining towns in the hills of Appalachia. Each site holds its own unique blend of tragic history and supernatural phenomena, making Ohio a rich destination for those intrigued by the paranormal. With so many haunted locations, it's no wonder that the state is considered one of the most eerie and ghost-ridden in the United States.

The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield was originally meant to help wayward young men get back on the right road. The beautiful Gothic reformatory built of iron and limestone is so picturesque that it was used as a location in the movie, "The Shawshank Redemption." What happened to many of the residents of this building was anything but beautiful, and certainly was not about truly reforming young men. Stories that include torture, beatings and other misdeeds are numerous. And wherever strong emotions are built up, we usually find some kind of unexplained phenomenon. A number of films and music videos have been made at OSR over the years, with The Shawshank Redemption as the best known and most widely loved. Other films include: Harry and Walter Go to New York, Tango and Cash, Air Force One, Escape Plan: The Extractors and Judas and the Black Messiah. Design and Construction The Ohio State Reformatory was designed by Cleveland architect Levi Scofield. Scofield designed the striking limestone building to be an uplifting, inspiring, and intimidating structure. The Reformatory was originally called the “Intermediate Penitentiary” since it accepted inmates who were too old for juvenile corrections but had committed offenses more minor than those that sent others to the Ohio State Penitentiary. The facility admitted its first inmates in 1896 after ten years of construction. Reformation and Rehabilitation The goal of the institution was truly to “reform” and rehabilitate its inmates, who received three things during their time at OSR: religion, education, and a trade. Inmates were admitted for 18 months, and if they showed progress, they could be released after that time. If not, they received another 18 months. The model was successful and OSR had a high success rate and a low recidivism rate.

About The Guest: Unlike most, I did not have a previous paranormal experience that propelled me to start investigating. For me, it was always a fascinating topic that simply intrigued me throughout my youth. In my adult life is finally when I began to pursue my childhood interests regarding the subject. For the past several years I have been actively investigating the paranormal. I have explored some of the most haunted locations in the country. These include Waverly Hills, Ohio State Reformatory, Eastern State Penitentiary, Pennhurst Asylum, Rolling Hills Asylum, and the Shanley Hotel (just to name a few). I do consider myself a “skeptic” first and foremost. However, since I have begun my journey into the paranormal realm I have seen and heard some unexplainable things. These instances have vastly expanded my knowledge of the field since becoming involved as a paranormal investigator. I have met some wonderful people throughout my years of investigating haunted locations. At this point in my life, I would not change a thing! ~Joe Rainone Lead Investigator Paranormal New England

According to data from Podcasthosting.org, 55% of Americans have listened to at least one episode of a podcast, and about 37% say they listen to a podcast at least every month. But have you ever considered exactly what's going on in your mind as you listen to a podcast? "Your brain is a complex organ," explains materials scientist and engineer Titi Shodiya, who hosts the podcast Dope Labs alongside molecular biologist Zakiya Whatley. "At any given moment, various parts of your brain are firing off different messages." Scientifically speaking, consuming information can activate your mesolimbic pathway, also known as the "reward pathway," releasing dopamine throughout the brain. This "feel-good" chemical is responsible for pleasure and lighting up your mind's reward centers. So how can listening to podcasts benefit your brain? A 2016 study out of UC Berkeley concluded that listening to narrative stories (much like podcasts) can stimulate multiple parts of your brain — so whether it's that adrenaline rush you get from true crime podcasts or a paranormal podcast that boosts your endorphins, there's truly something out there for everyone. Podcasts encourage the spirit of debate, and paranormal reports couldn't be more suited. Skeptics and believers will argue about the existence of Bigfoot, UFOs, ghosts, and demonic presences until the end of time. Personal testimony and scientific research make the case for the validity of paranormal accounts. If you can't believe it with your eyes, maybe you will with your ears. Paranormal podcasts are popular for several reasons. According to a post on Student Assembly, some people listen to paranormal podcasts because they enjoy feeling scared in a safe way. Others listen because they are curious about the paranormal and want to learn more about it 1. Paranormal podcasts also encourage debate between skeptics and believers about the existence of Bigfoot, UFOs, ghosts, and demonic presences How or why is your choice, but we are grateful and thankful you chose to spend your time with us! The 222 Paranormal Podcast is currently in its 7th season. They encourage listeners to check them out on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. This podcast is 100% self-supported, so please help by sharing the show, sharing posts and telling others to listen, these only cost a second of you time and helps immensly! Amber Founder, Case Manager & Lead Investigator Amber Wellman grew up in Barberton, Ohio but moved to Cuyahoga Falls with her 2 children in 2005, where she still resides. She first became aware of the paranormal as a very young child, she didn't just have the typical imaginary friend…. She had “the guys”. She has seen and felt and heard things others didn't but it was chalked up to her imagination until she got old enough it was confirmed to be supernatural. She tried to make sense of it all. That is what fueled her interest in the paranormal further, the strange occurrences she was aware of but other people around her weren't. She would see people standing nearby that others didn't, or hear whispers in her ear at night while trying to sleep, or black shadows swirling around the ceiling. All these things made her wonder what more was out there. She wanted to learn more and not be afraid of the things happening. She has been a paranormal enthusiast for years, searching for answers to the unknown, but professionally only since 2015 when she joined Ectovision Paranormal as a case manager. She has investigated numerous places from famous such as the Hinsdale House, Madison Seminary, and Monroe House to personal homes. She now tries to help others get answers and make sense of the paranormal, the unknown. She co-founded this team in the hopes of helping other teams, places, or homeowners find the answers they are searching for. Her religious beliefs are from being raised in different churches growing up. Amber is an ordained minister and while she believes in God/Creator, she was also raised with native american beliefs. So while she's not a religious person, she is spiritual. She believes that angels do watch over us all but you get back what you put out into the universe. Chris Lead IT, Spirit Counselor & Investigator Chris was born in Ohio, but he has lived in many other places. He has learned spiritual nuances from the many places he has lived from northeastern Ohio to the Smoky Mountains of Georgia; a reservation in South Dakota to Amish country in western New York and points in between. He currently resides in Summit County, Ohio with his wife and children. Chris is an ordained minister who has spent his life interested in and studying the supernatural. He is an empath and both an excellent listener and observer. He suffered from night terrors as a small child, and always searched for a meaning behind why they happened to him. This led him to a deeper study and research of the paranormal and psychology, how it affects life, and how life affects it. Chris also has experience as an investigator and production hand with EctoVision Paranormal. Where he investigated and assisted in filming investigations for private residences and historical sites including places such as The Monroe House, and the Hinsdale House. Chris is actually quite skeptical about most paranormal activities, and yet open possibilities both mundane and supernatural. As a student of both psychology and parapsychology, he has a clear understanding that the world is more than we see, hear, feel, and often understand, but this also means he is always looking for the best answers. Robin Researcher & Investigator As a youngster I grew up hearing my elders whisper about my maternal; great-grandmother and her " cards" and her "gift", how she has lived a gypsy lifestyle, running away and joining the circus at 14 years old. It wasn't until I was older that I figured out what all the talk was about. I was gifted her "cards" which turned out to be a deck of tarot cards. I have fond memories of playing "cards" with my great-grandmother, little did I know, she was reading my cards! It was a few years later that I learned that she was a clairvoyant, it was then that I became interested in the metaphysical and spirituality. Upon moving out and feeling free to explore, I began reading and learning about my interest. Upon my father's passing, is when I became interested in the paranormal. I had several experiences where I felt his presence before he crossed over. My experiences lead me to further research about paranormal activity and I have spent years reading, talking, and learning about the world of paranormal activity. I have gone on to have many paranormal experiences. which has kept me interested in learning how I may be of help to others. I have lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Summit County since I was 7 years old. I am a history buff of sorts and familiar with folklore and urban legends regarding the area. I am a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. My motto in life is " The day you think you know it all, is the day you need to throw in the towel" Justine Researcher & Investigator I have had an interest in the paranormal & metaphysical world for as long as I can remember. Most of us had an imaginary friend, I believe I had a spirit. Most often when a child has a spirit it gets shrugged off as an imaginary friend. Back when I was a child no one talked about it the paranormal, they would believe you were crazy. I see and sometimes feel the energy around me. In regard to the metaphysical world, I have accumulated several stones, gems, and practices. My sister and I go out late a night to places to just sit and see if we connect with anyone. It is really great to share this with my sister by birth. She feels and does not see. A lot of the time we are just called sisters.
