In this episode Helen shares how she's getting on with her Hobonichi system, a year after making the switch from Bullet Journaling. We did an episode on this switch in early 2024 - you can listen to that episode here, where Helen shared why switching over the New Year was a bad idea. And so, a year later, we revisited this topic to hear how Helen is getting on, what's adapted and whether she still needs a suitcase to carry around her growing sticker collection. I ask Helen about the Hobonichi system, how it differs from Bullet Journaling, how she organises her stickers, whether Helen then keeps each notebook and how her system works. Helen shares more about the Hobonichi eco-system, bulldog clips & paper clips and how she's had to retire her massive collection of Washi tape.We also talk about or mention:Mark and Fold stationers & our chat on the show with founder Amy.Atoms to Astronauts notebooksLamy Fountain Pens (aff link)Our interview with Fountain Pen legend, Urban HafnerAnd lovely kind comments left on Rob's video from fellow stationery freaks(Some images of Helen's planner are shared in the newsletter).

Welcome back to Glow Up Goals Week on Bri Books! Today we're doing a deep dive into the world of bullet journaling: What it is, what it solves, and how to get started. I'll be sharing the steps you want to follow in order to turn any notebook into a bullet journal, and how to optimize your life using bullet journal strategies like daily and weekly logs. What is Bullet Journaling? What's the Difference Between a Bullet Journal and a Regular Notebook? A bullet journal, in essence, is a notebook with bulleted on-page dots and an accompanying system of organizing your world. Your bullet journal index, weekly spread, and daily logs are the foundations of a successful bullet journaling strategy. Your bullet journal weekly spread is where you map out your week ahead, and supplement with categories you want to focus on. Often, when you search bullet journaling on YouTube and Instagram, you're met with highly-designed, washi-tape wrapped notebooks. What's important to remember is that you want your bullet journal format to be flexible, fast, and fit to your focus. How to Start Bullet Journaling Create an Index. It's the Table of Contents of your bullet journal, where you write down page numbers and their corresponding sections. Write a prayer, a grounding thought, or, 3-5 simple joys in life. Write down three peaceful thoughts and joys you find. I find that it's helpful to have something grounding and centering at the top of my journal, to put myself into perspective. Categories. This is where you break down and compartmentalize your priorities for this notebook. Your bullet journal categories will organically start to build up as you journal more regularly. Use your categories to keep you honest and mindful of the tasks, projects, and priorities you avoid. Logs and Calendar. The daily log/ weekly spread is where you outline the state of your union: I begin with a breakdown of the categories we mentioned: personal, financial, spiritual, etc. On a weekly basis, it's important that you keep yourself honest and review your logs. Notice what tasks roll from week to week. Notice what categories get neglected and moved back week to week. Create Your Spread. A spread is a few pages devoted to a certain project or time period. For example, each week I create a 2-page spread, and write down what's on my calendar along with a little checklist built on tasks pulled from the….CATEGORIES LIST! The daily and weekly spread keeps me honest. In this episode we talk about what's happening to us - as we find digital tooling becoming more important in our stationery world. We talk about the Remarkable 2, Moleskine balance and how we are still stationery freaks! And Rob is retooling his knowledge management and Helen learned nothing about herself, despite sticker journaling for a few weeks. We cover: Woolsthorpe manor, where Isaac Newton saw the apple fall - and the fact you can buy pens made from the very tree that Newton saw the apple fall from Rob's bought a Remarkable - will he send it back? Rob's doing a workshop in Romania - and has bought hundreds of stickers for an immersive workshop Helen's been using the Moleskine Balance app to track habits, mood etc. The interface is calming and clean - she is enjoying Helen is using Bullet Journaling more for work than personal - due to working from home more often and "closing down the day" Rob's been researching tooling for a Personal Knowledge Management System - and was spending more time fiddling with the system than learning. Helen is using Obsidian, Rob uninstalled it after 10 minutes. Rob talks about The Brain as a PKMS. It's an awesome tool - but pricey, and would require a big on-going financial investment. Helen has been sticker journaling about her mood and energy levels, and tracking this using stickers. What did she learn about herself? Absolutely nothing by all accounts. Zero insights. Nothing. Nada Rob talks about using Zotero and the Remarkable as his new PKMS Rob talks through why he's bought the Remarkable 2, and how it fits into his ecosystem of learning and note taking. At the moment, he's keeping it, but there is a 100 day returns promise Helen's not convinced about the Remarkable. Truth be told, Rob isn't either. Risa Williams talks with licensed social worker, podcaster and speaker, Cynthia Siadat, who shares her insights about how we can be more compassionate to ourselves and how we can listen to our bodies and check in with our "shadow selves" more often. They discuss the significance of paying attention to your body's signals and sensations, getting in touch with our INNER SHADOW - a part of ourselves that is often hidden or neglected and how developing a relationship with and mending our inner shadow is crucial for personal growth and success. They coin a new term, "Your Cringe Self" and talk about how being kind to ourselves when we look back on past mistakes is a key part of building self-compassion. Tools Discussed: Self esteem tools from Risa's book, The Ultimate Self-Esteem Toolkit. The Shadow Self from Carl Jung's books, Bullet Journaling and Planners. This time on Sonitotum with Matthew Wayne Selznick: A conversation with the award-nominated, prolific Canadian urban and epic fantasy author Krista Walsh (also find her on Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram. We cover process, fiction as self-analysis, time management and productivity, writing software, community and team building, mental health and, as usual, so much more. It's a conversation full of laughter and, most importantly, lots of value for you, dear listener. Like many authors, Krista has been writing since she was old enough to hold a pen. At eight years old, she wrote three one-page ghost stories that she still feels are her best work. From plays and short stories through to fanfiction and novels, tales and adventures have always buzzed around in her head. After her first publication in April 2012, a short story in a dark fantasy anthology, Krista made her way through various collaborations and anthologies until she founded the self-publishing brand of Raven's Quill Press. On her blog, she hosted the Greylands serial, a project with five other authors that she proceeded to produce as her publishing debut in November 2013. Since then, she has released numerous epic and urban fantasy titles, with many more on the way. In 2019 Krista was nominated for the Faces magazine best author award. In her down time, she can be found wandering Ottawa, Ontario looking for inspiration, buried in a book, wrangling her toddler and keeping up with her Australian cattle dog. This episode was recorded on May 30th, 2023. The conversation with Krista Walsh was recorded on January 27th, 2023. Links and Topics Mentioned in This Episode My day job? I'm a creative services provider helping authors, podcasters and other creators. How can I help you? I mention my novelette "The Perfumed Air at Kwaanantag Bay," which instigated some emotional work I was only half-expecting. It's the follow up to my novel Light of the Outsider. Krista mentions the writing software applications Plottr, Scrivener, and Scapple, as well as the project management tool Hive. Both Krista and I bring up Atticus, which shows potential, but isn't quite ready for prime-time. I mention Dynalist, which, at the time of our conversation, I was using extensively. I've since moved to Obsidian, which is more flexible but also has a sharper learning curve. Try 'em both! Mindomo, a mind-mapping application. What is Bullet Journaling? Bookbub is a book discovery service and marketing tool helping authors reach new readers. Ereader News Today is another newsletter service Krista has found useful to market her works. My non-fiction book for independent authors, Indie Author Marketing Infrastructure. The newsletter swap marketing service Book Funnel is yet another way indie authors can share resources and reach readers. Krista mentions Newsletter Ninja, a resource on e-mail marketing. My mailing list service provider is ConvertKit. Mike Watt is the hardest working man in punk rock, and a national treasure. Krista credits the last episode of Parks and Recreation for her "bumper sticker" creed. Maybe you would like to be a future guest on Sonitotum with Matthew Wayne Selznick? Learn more! Survived a Narcissist? Why Bullet Journaling Might Change Your Life and Speed Up Your Recovery - As a survivor of a narcissist in a toxic relationship, I have found an amazing relief in Bullet Journaling. It has helped me organize my thoughts, empower my creativity and deal with the rumination and overwhelm that many empaths experience. Bullet Journaling is a journaling system that has helped people with ADHD, organization, and productivity, and it isn't a coincidence that it also helps survivors of narcissists. How Bullet Journal Changed My Life At the simplest level, bullet journaling is a way to organize your life. But a side benefit of bullet journaling is that it helps me focus my scattered brain- which my ADHD and C-PTSD have triggered. Bullet journaling offers a super simple way to keep track of life. Instead of writing in notebooks or on paper, you write your lists, plans, and goals in the notebook. The index makes it especially helpful, so I can find what I need quickly. This video describes how bullet journaling can help survivors of narcissists take back their lives by creating healthy boundaries, getting their clutter under control and so much more. Angie Atkinson talks about healing after divorce from a narcissist, ADHD and relationships, and how all of that works together with bullet journal healing. Discover. Understand. Overcome. We are living in an age when “hustle” and “grind” are part of our daily lives. While teachers are expected to stay on top of their lengthy to-do list, the demands on them are greater than ever. How can we provide the tools teachers and, by extension, their students need to declutter thoughts, manage time better, and remain focused and productive? With her approachable style, educator and trainer Nichole Carter demonstrates how unlocking the creative brain can help improve mental health and problem-solving ability, as well as lead to better self-awareness and time management. Filled with the author's original illustrations, the book shares ideas and techniques for developing an effective, personalized system to improve productivity and address teacher burnout. The book can also help teachers help students — particularly those in older grades — prioritize and think through their thoughts, goals and actions to be more productive learners. On this episode I had the pleasure of speaking to Nisha Kunder who is full of insight and wisdom in integrating wellness into our routines. Nisha helps high performers develop more energy, patience, and compassion in their personal and professional lives through mindfulness practices. She is also the creator of The Art of Relaxation online course where she teaches the ancient yogic relaxation technique of Yoga Nidra (which is a meditation practice that is done *lying* down). Nisha and I talk about the importance of sleep hygiene, having a morning ritual and an evening ritual. Stay until the end to hear Nisha's own personal evening routine that we can all take notes on.You will also hear about two different journaling practices, one that I use and teach The Momma's Morning Cup Virtual Community and what Nisha describes as her go to journaling practice, Bullet Journaling. To start your own journaling practice that you heard mentioned in the show, check out my FREE 30 Days of Journal Prompts. Click Here To Download. Hear how this momma pivoted her career and listened to her own body and used her own techniques for self healing. Before becoming a yoga and wellness coach, Nisha used to work as a Technical Program manager at tech giants like Microsoft and Motorola. She left her unsatisfactory job to heal her health issues caused by stress. Coming from a culture that believes in curing the rootcause instead of merely masking the symptom, she began her healing journey by changing her lifestyle to include more self-care, self-inquiry, and energy healing – in short, Yoga and Ayurveda.Amazed by how simple tools had such profound effects she began sharing them with other busy people. In Episode 31 of the Health, Wealth, and Happiness Pod, we invite Faith Wang to talk about how Bullet Journaling has transformed her life! Bullet Journaling, or BuJo, is an organizational system coined by Ryder Carroll to keep track of anything in your life. Faith is a middle-school STEM teacher by day and a creative “influencer” by night. She has grown a community of over 18,000 followers on her Instagram account, @bulletjournalwithfaith, where she shares all about her bullet journal journey. After discovering it almost 4 years ago, Faith has found that Ryder Carroll's bullet journal method can help hone your productivity, wellness, and self-awareness - all while being creative. Besides bullet journaling, Faith loves phone calls with friends and eating spicy food. This episode is brought to you by Anchor.
